24 Is Done!!
I am – Hercules
It’s official. No reprieve via NBC. The current season will be the last for “24.”
Its finale will run on an easy-to-remember date, May 24.
“We couldn't come up with something that really satisfied us,” is how showrunner Howard Gordon describes to The Hollywood Reporter’s James Hibberd the never-to-be ninth season. “We've done everything we feel we can do with that character in this format.”
Talk of the coming Jack Bauer big-screen adventure and how the series will end can be found in Hibberd’s interview with Gordon here.
Gordon tells Entertainment Weekly the "24" movie being scripted by Billy Ray ("Shattered Glass") will condense 24 hours of Jack Bauer's life into two hours.
The press release issued late Friday:
“24: DAY EIGHT” WILL BE THE AWARD-WINNING SERIES’ FINAL SEASON
Two-Hour Series Finale Airs Monday, May 24, on FOX
In a joint decision made by 24’s star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, executive producer and showrunner Howard Gordon, Twentieth Century Fox Television, Imagine Entertainment and Fox Broadcasting Company, it was determined that the acclaimed series will end its remarkable eight-season run. Jack Bauer’s last day on FOX will conclude when the final two hours of “Day Eight” air Monday, May 24 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). As the countdown to the series’ climactic conclusion races on, the final 11 hours will air uninterrupted Mondays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
Multiple award-winning series star Kiefer Sutherland reflected on the show’s run: “This has been the role of a lifetime, and I will never be able to fully express my appreciation to everyone who made it possible. While the end of the series is bittersweet, we always wanted 24 to finish on a high note, so the decision to make the eighth season our last was one we all agreed upon. This feels like the culmination of all our efforts from the writers to the actors to our fantastic crew and everyone at Fox. Looking ahead to the future, Howard Gordon and I are excited about the opportunity to create the feature film version of 24. But when all is said and done, it is the loyal worldwide fan base that made it possible for me to have the experience of playing the role of Jack Bauer, and for that I am eternally grateful.”
Executive producer and showrunner Howard Gordon said, “Kiefer and I have loved every minute of making 24, but we all believe that now is the right time to call it a day. I echo his sentiments of gratitude toward the show’s amazing creative team, as well as the studio and network who have always believed in us and shown us unbelievable support.”
“24 is so much more than just a TV show – it has redefined the drama genre and created one of the most admired action icons in television history,” said Peter Rice, Chairman, Entertainment, Fox Networks Group. Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company added, “We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series and will be forever thankful to Kiefer, the producers, the cast and crew for everything they’ve put into 24 over the years. It’s truly been an amazing and unforgettable eight days.”
“We are so grateful to Kiefer and Howard who have really poured their hearts and souls into making this show over the past eight seasons,” commented Gary Newman and Dana Walden, Chairmen, Twentieth Century Fox Television. “To everyone who contributed to this iconic series over its amazing run, we want to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your incredible work.”
Added Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, “I’m so proud to have been a part of 24, which has become such a cultural phenomenon. And to Kiefer and Howard and everyone who has worked on the show, many thanks.”
Now in its eighth season with Kiefer Sutherland starring as the heroic Jack Bauer, the inventive and suspenseful 24 has been nominated for a total of 68 Emmy Awards, winning for Outstanding Drama Series in 2006. Over the course of seven seasons, Sutherland garnered seven Emmy nominations and one win for Outstanding Lead Actor – Drama Series. While the series gained global recognition, Sutherland’s portrayal of the legendary character penetrated the American psyche like no other dramatic television character to become part of the English lexicon.
Premiering November 6, 2001, 24 employed a pioneering split-screen, fast-paced format with complex interweaving storylines as viewers followed anti-terrorism agent Jack Bauer through 24 pulse-pounding episodes, each covering one hour and presented in real time. Subsequent seasons combined the show’s unique and trend-setting format while delivering compelling new elements and attracting talented actors and guest stars, including the Emmy Award-winning Cherry Jones (President Allison Taylor). The series also currently stars Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe O’Brian), Anil Kapoor (Omar Hassan), Annie Wersching (Renee Walker), Katee Sackhoff (Dana Walsh), Mykelti Williamson (Brian Hastings), Freddie Prinze Jr. (Cole Ortiz), Chris Diamantopoulos (Rob Weiss) and John Boyd (Arlo Glass).
The first six seasons were set in Los Angeles, and following the strike-induced delay of Season Seven, “24: Redemption,” a two-hour film bridging Seasons Six and Seven, was set in Africa. Washington, D.C. was the setting for Season Seven, and the final season of 24 finds Jack Bauer thwarting a terrorist attack in New York.
At the conclusion of Season Eight, 24 will have a produced a total of 194 episodes (including “24: Redemption”), making it one of the longest-running action television shows in history.
Tune in Monday, March 29 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) for the next all-new installment of 24 and Monday, April 5 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) for a special two-hour episode.
Created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, 24 is a production of 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television in association with Teakwood Lane Productions. Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, David Fury, Manny Coto, Brannon Braga, Brad Turner, Alex Gansa, Kiefer Sutherland and Brian Grazer are executive producers, while Chip Johannessen and Patrick Harbinson serve as co-executive producers. Brad Turner will direct the series finale.

So that's nice. Nothing to do with this though.
-
This sucks for television. More sports for me! I'm running out of shows to watch. But seriously my season 9 idea was amazing.
-
I guess they're right. The big reveal this week left me a little nonplussed.
-
The closest thing we had to a 80s MacGyver style show in the present day, only gorier and darker in a sense. You did good, Keifer.
-
...but good riddance. As much as I've loved watching Sutherland as Jack Bauer, after the absolutely preposterous and nonsensical reveal of Starbuck as a mole in last week's episode, I have officially had enough. Maybe on the big screen they won't have to rely so much on stupid, STUPID "twists" like that.
-
"...over and over and over again. We reflexively type 'mole' in the scripts without thinking, same as 'dammit' and 'protocols' so even NBC, desperate as they are, would not buy season of our latest crap."
-
companion show to Weasels_R_Us, hosted by Jay Leno...
-
especially after this season i mean
dana being a conspirator is so trite and implausible its about as
original as that joke "take my wife please!!" -
really the Tag line should read the Scent for fat chicks, and GaNerds.
-
...let's all remember it that way
-
Somehow... managed to avoid every single episode of this series though I'm a huge action fan. Guess now I'll watch all 8 seasons for the first time back-to-back ;)!
-
but I still like it and will finish season 8 and see the movie in theaters several times.
-
but I still like it and will finish season 8 and see the movie in theaters several times.
-
Nah, just kidding. I think this is a good move for the show because it seems like it's about time to wrap it up, on the small screen at least.
it's true that 24 staged a mild recovery after a truly shit 6th season. i know some folks hate the current season too but, while it's definitely uneven, i don't find it outright terrible the way that season 6 was.
but at the same time i'm seriously disappointed in David Fury's efforts: here was the guy who wrote some of the best eps of Buffy, Angel and Lost, but his run on 24 hasn't exactly been a distinguished one. The same goes for Manny Coto.
So, yeah, make this season the last one. It might not go out on top but, done right, it could definitely set things up for a great film franchise. -
But it still hurts. I'll miss my weekly Jack Bauer Power Hour, and I'll miss Chloe's snarkiness and the stupid plot twists and moles and whatnot. Let's hope they don't fuck up the movie.
-
Kif finally gets to swear, integration scenes will bloody and violent.ant etc. This movie will be exciting. I'll miss the show, but bring on the films
-
What gigs has he had since 24 started? The Sentinel? That made what, $15 million at the B.O.? Little voice work here and there? Sucks to be him.
-
but as soon he hits the big screen...watch out things could get messy!
-
But, it was time. They had a good run. Here's hoping they can do something different for the movie.
-
It's been the same thing ad nauseum for years. I really was hoping they'd get back to a more personal story like in season 1. The stakes needed to be more personal, and not so nebulous. "Lots of casualties!" every year does not make for compelling drama. And once Starbuck was revealed as a mole, I pretty much threw my hands up in exasperation. Couple that with the fact that apparently they don't even do the most basic of background checks on a person and them letting a vehicle that was stolen from a terrorist so close to their building and I was about ready to give up. At least now I know I can finish out this season and won't have to.
-
Doing his laundry, eating fruit loops out of a mixing bowl with a wooden spoon, watching the Cartoon Network, taking occasional trips between the bedroom and toilet.
Or they could just end it with Jack getting arrested for breaking the Good Samaritan law. -
Maybe, just maybe there was one season that did not have a mole in CTU. Man that got tired. Damn. This season had such promise with the first ep. when Jack slammed a fire axe into the the chest of a bad guy but then rapidly kind of degenerated into a mishmash of stories from seasons past Yep, it's time to go. Farewell, Jack. Farewell.
-
Jesus Crist I am glad that show is over. I was a huge fan S1&2 but I realized about half way through S2 that this was all we were ever getting. Mediocre drama, ridiculous cliff hangers.... Once Dennis Haysbert was gone, I could hardly give a damn anymore. Not that he was doing anything keeping the show together, he just was a symbol of the first season where it went the right direction.
-
Never watched it. I do, however, care about "Lie to Me" and "Human Target" (both of which have grown on me), and if this means a higher probability for either or both of those shows coming back: good riddance to Jack Bauer.
-
what will wingnut fucks watch now?
-
Jack's been a busy boy, he'll be less cranky after this
-
and thats probably gonna happen.
-
and STARGATE is rocking now!
-
and you're just going to leave me like this? No warning even....
-
The first 4 seasons were its prime (as well as elements of the 5th). The absolute crap and wasted opportunities we have been subject to over the last 3 years has been a tragedy.
Could you imagine a season based on a lone-wolf Saunder's style villain bent on vengeance? The mind boggles: wrapping up all the plot threads from other seasons, bringing back Mandy, Aaron Pierce, Logan, Novak, and of course Tony. Holy shit that could have been excellent.
If this season is really all the writers could have possibly come up with, then fuck them. -
Well now you've got one, annoying talkbacker from the other boards, though not for the reasons you wanted it.
-
Who thought bringing her in was a good idea? And the whole PC "Green" nonsense really wore thin. It was a really good show the first few seasons, though.
-
and I can finally catch up with it. What do you bet we'll see this complete series box set around Christmas?
-
They were trying to save the environment!!! Cloe I need you to patch me into the nearest hand cranked cell phone!!! NOW!!!
-
I will miss it.
What I won't miss is this stupid shit with Starbuck being a felon and a mole. -
Wanted - Top secret government agency with access to all the countries defenses seeks unqualified perosn to be a mole in organization. Felons, foreign agents are welcome
-
Must have ex-boyfriend with criminal background who can play Dueling banjos on a Mouth Harp.(look it up)
-
Sucks to be kiefer? You're being sarcastic, right? Do you know how much money he made from 8 seasons of 24, especially in the latter seasons when he was getting half a mill an episode? I'd say even with this show ending, its pretty sweet to be Kiefer.
-
He'll be living off residuals from 24 and little else. Besides, wasn't thinking so much about the paydays, but his career. He'll be lucky to get another leading role that doesn't involve him running around and shouting *DAMMIT I WANT THE .... !* It's his curse.
-
I loved this show for what was 8 pretty solid seasons..I just got an e-mail from a friend asking what he should watch now that Lost and 24 are coming to a close...
I said in reply Justified ,Mad Men, and Breaking Bad..Isn't it amazing that two out of the three shows is on AMC..I stopped watching AMC when they started to run newer films and inserted commercials to boot but I came back to the fold when Mad Men and Breaking Bad started their run.. -
conservatives will love it
-
Heck, it was time two or three years ago. The people largely responsible for killing Star Trek should have never been allowed near it.
-
As long as nothing happens to Chloe or Freckles, I'll be happy the rest of this final season. (They can kill off Kim if they want to.)
-
to look forward to.
-
all these shows with talkbacks end way too early.
-
From the two black presidents to the female president to the evil president who was modeled after Junior. Riiiiiiight.
-
yea, the current seasons of both suck ass
-
Is there one? I thought I heard someone talking about a spin-off awhile ago.
I'm too lazy to go look it up myself -
It was becoming really, really stale.
I hope Fox pushes Human Target now. I LOVE that show! -
"they just keep poppin up everywhere!"
-
Seasons 1-5 (especially 1-2, and 4) were great. I was lucky in having missed the broadcast of the show, watching the seasons on DVD, usually over the course of a weekend for each. TV crack, when watched that way. Loved it, though I couldn't be arsed with the past 3 seasons. If you haven't watched the show, load up those first 5 seasons on Netflix, and read the episode recaps from TV Without Pity for the first couple of seasons. Hilarious.
-
The people that are producing the remake of SOYLENT GREEN. Quick, before we get someone like Shia le butt.
http://tinyurl.com/y9k7w3j
You should play Hestons role, Thorn.(of course)
I also Stunt-cast RUTGER HAUER as Sol Roth, the tough retired cop that has seen too much shit in his days. -
Hopefully H-Wood gives her something good next year, she's easily been the best thing about 24 the past 2 years. I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the end.
Kiefer rules, this show brought him back into the mainstream after falling into obscurity after the 80's. He's had a helluva a career. -
The Running Man. Sutherland as Ben Richards. But stick EXACTLY to kings book. (I love Arnold,
but that wasn't the book) -
We'll always have the Jack sack...
-
Joel looks at Robert and Robert looks at Joel.
Duh, got nothing, guess we're done. -
I really wish FOX had taken a page from LOST and given 24's writers at least a season or two to end it all. Now I'm worried that characters will suddenly get killed off without warning, simply to add finality to the series.
-
i called it pple, it will happen, if T-bag is in stargate then anything can happen.
-
To save a bunch of people. It should have been done during a revenge season, where someone from his past comes back, and threatens to blow up a city unless Bauers body is delivered Ryan Chapelle style. It's only fitting he does it himself, because the only man capable of killing Jack Bauer...is Jack Bauer. They won't do it in a two-hour movie though. No one way it ends with him dying. I won't believe it til I see it. They don't have the balls. What happens if it makes 200 million dollars?
-
where he runs around and yells at pple.
-
i mean its a pretty serialized series so there's no ongoing arc or anything to wrap up is there? so it'll just end like its just another season i guess.
-
...
Then the Ad guys would have a killer tag for the DVD Box-Set:
"Jack's Week Of Hell"
Now its:
"Jack's; Week of Hell and A day of being grummpy" Does not have the same ring to it.... -
Yep. Without Jack shooting up or torturing Arabs, it just lost alot of it's balls. Maybe the movie will get it back on track.
-
^^^^^
-
PLEASE. Have him team up with Jack and Renee, and have the three of them just killing motherfuckers for the last hour. I demand it.
-
but they all have that terrorist look so
-
Think about it. Someone had to help a convicted felon gain a plausible enough identity to get into CTU. When I saw her killing Stephen Root I looked at my wife and said, this is where we finally find out she's the mole.
-
Maybe now my Mother and my sisters and their dumbo husbands will stop telling me how everybody they know loves this show and how cool they are and how I'm not because I don't watch. But back during the first season none of them knew about the show, and I did.
Love Keith, though. -
It's just been repeating itself for the last few seasons.
-
No Lost or 24? What the fuck is supposed to be event television now? Mad Men? Fucking Please.
-
Certainly salves the wound of losing the show on a week to week basis.
-
Seriously, this needs to happen.
-
You're a terrible writer.
-
Season 5, Season 7, Season 2, Season 1, Season 4, Season 6, Season 3, Season 8.
-
Imagine watching Kiefer fighting to stay alive in a, reality show, set slightly into the future. No flying cars yet. Hunted by the cops as well as the public.

About David Fury's 24 eps (all writers on the show, really)
by tall_boy66
He always writes the best ones in any given season wherein there are the best little dialogue bits: this season he wrote 2:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m. which was Jack and the suicide bomber had that back and forth when Jack said "Blow yourself up into a million little pieces; first thing I'm gonna do is make your mother come in here and clean it up." and Fury also wrote the season 6 episode when Jack killed Fayed with that pure-baddass moment of "Say hi to your brother for me." -SNAP!- The reason his voice isn't that "distinctive" is that on 24 it has a consistent tone from episode to episode (can't do a comedy episode or a wacky flashback/flashforward episode) because of the format so for specific writers you really have to find key little bits in reveals and dialogue within specific scenes.
-
I am truly gonna miss 24. Now the only show on TV worth a shit is STAR WARS THE CLONE WARS. No matter how outlandish the plotlines, I was always entertained by Jack Bauer and company. But I respect Kiefer and crew for wanting to let the show end on a high-note as opposed to running it into the ground. I hope the movie becomes a reality. So on May 24, I will lift a glass high to toast the hard-working men and women of CTU, and the adventures they have shared with us!
-
Suicide the next day.
-
But I am still watching every week. Most addictive tv show ever? Yeah, maybe more so than Lost.
-
this season has been shit...I love 24 but christ
-
"Lost" ends May 23 and "24" ends May 24. So it looks like May 25, 2010 will be when I stop caring about TV.
-
Mine is: Season 1, season 5, season 2, season 3, season 4, season 7, season 8 and season 9.
-
...just not in LA.
Taking Jack to China for season 6 could have established 24 as a truly global show and given the producers license to take him all over the world. With the whole world as your backdrop you could dream up stories for dozens of seasons. 24 to me will be a "what if?" because I really don't believe that the well is dry. -
Bring back Tony and friends. Jack works in Europe and kills shit. It would be awesome
-
yeah, a good decision to end the series now. they really have done just about all they could do with this format.this current season hasn't been terrible, but for the most part has just been pretty... boring. it's really been a case of 'been there, done that'. the last couple of episodes have definitely picked up the pace, tho, so hopefully the series will go out on a high note.i think the main thing that has really hampered the last few seasons has been the LACK OF JACK! increasingly, the writers have been giving more and more emphasis to the supporting characters and subplots, and you have whole episodes where Jack is sitting in a car, or barely shows up at all. it really slows the pace down and just becomes uninteresting after awhile. Jack is THE center of the show. 24 isn't about terrorism, or the military or the government or CTU, it's about Jack. the characters history and conflicts after all he's done and all we've seen him go thru. when Jack is on the screen, things pick up and stuff gets interesting. we all have a history with this character. ...but as soon as some side character or the latest mole or whoever becomes the main focus... they can't sustain the interest - and the tension & suspense in the show just starts to dissipate. hell, jack spent half of the last episode pinned down by sniper fire. they killed off all their good characters in season 5 and they have been paying the price for that ever since. sure, we've got Freckles (and she is a great character & Annie Wersching is a great actress) but at this point it's too little, too late.let's remember 24 for those badass early seasons and it's groundbreaking format. and all the intense moments thru the years: the shocking end to the first season, Jack executing Chapelle, that creepy-ass music they play whenever some bioweapon gets released... good times. let's hope season 8 goes out with a bang and not a whimper.

1 (Obviously.), 3 (Best closing moments ever. And then there's Chappelle...), 2, 4 (Though, I can't remember anything but the Devane kidnapping and Jack getting caught in the shootout with Audrey's ex.), 7 (Fans bitch that they stupidly killed Tony, they bring him back only to make him a villain and besmirch the character even more.), 5 (Killing Tony and Michelle off not only led to season seven going to shit, but carbon copies of the characters in season six.), 8 (So much for that reboot, huh? Same tired ass rehashed plots and twists.), 6 (Direct result of the shark jump in season five.) I'm all for movies, but.... I hope they're R-rated, Rack Bauer is in them, and they finally tie up loose ends with Theo Stoller. That, and redeeming Tony.
-
It was finished some time ago.
-
How about an Alien invasion with Jack Bauer in the mix????
-
Loved it, can't wait to see Jack take out some Euro trash on the big screen.
Show Liam Neeson how it's done! -
I'd preorder the Blu Ray right now
-
But it had run its course. Unfortunately, this season has been only second to season 6 in terms of suckitude. The early seasons were absolutely incredible, even up to season 4: all incredibly solid overall. I wonder what they can do for the movie: the problem with the last couple of seasons has been that they have covered absolutely every possible (semi-realistic) doomsday scenario. Well, hopefully they come up with something good. Thanks for the run, Jack!
-
Anyone who can't see what a masterpiece season 5 was - one where the writers actually sat down and PLANNED things for a change - doesn't know good television when they see it. Then, of course, they shat all over it in season 6 by making the bluetooth guy Jack's brother (I still don't know whether they had that planned all along...well, they shouldn't have)
-
They killed every last interesting character not named Bauer or Pierce all for the sake of ratings only to try desperately to recapture them the very next season, and flat out retcon shit because they royally fucked up.
-
Mar 27, 2010 3:32:23 AM CDT
Season 5 also won numerous awards, best of lists, etc. etc.
by tall_boy66
But Shermdawg says it's shit cause he has a hard on for characters from season 2. Right.
-
...but in retrospect, it's kinda like that infamous Back to the Future gif where Doc Brown explains how Spider-man 3 sucking so bad created an alternate timeline in which the entire trilogy sucked. That is exactly what happened to 24 and season five.
-
Tony was indeed killed. Yeah, he didn't get a silent clock treatment, but Fox, and the showrunners confirmed it.
-
Sad to see Jack go... Still feel like the show had so much untapped potential. They regurgitated storylines so often on this show that it started to feel stale the third season.
My biggest regret with 24 is that they never really did follow through with any deep mythology within the show. Not saying it needed to be Lost-like, but they threw out a lot of opportunities early on like Operation Nightfall, who Nina 'really' worked for, NAKED MANDY and those involved w/ the ending of season 2, the season 5 secret society (that turned out to be his friggin brother), and so on.
They always teased us with shit like that and never went ANYWHERE with it. So I say, go fuck yourself 24. I will still miss you anyways. -
So sad!
-
So sad!

good to see someone else who likes season 3 and dislikes season 5. i thought i was the only one.
-
Season 1, season 3, season 2, season 5, then all other piece of shit seasons that sucked monkey shit.
-
And give Jack a decent tv send off?
-
Prison break out, those two evil nut case brothers, the return of Nina......great season.
-
for many reasons. but it went terminal when its right wing nutcase co-creator left.
-
I could never stand a week waiting between hours...but then on DVD without the commercials, each "hour" was 44 mins. It took me a long time and patience to explain why this was so to my wife.
-
In which former prez palmer is assassinated and it's up to JB to (once again) unravel a conspiracy while avenging his death. To bad the rest of the seasons went downhill from there. Please let it die a honorable death, FOX.

I hope it goes out with some sense of respectability
by the mcpoyle clan
because this season has been lagging, and frankly, it's been stale for some time. Time to go.What struck me was that Fox was paying $5 million per episode (and was willing to cut it to $3.5 for NBC). Maybe that's why all the beloved characters disappeared, they shifted the bucks to Kiefer's salary and to pay all the damned EPs on the show, then filled in the cast with cheaper talent.
-
and it didnt take 194 episodes.
-
heads off with a Samurai sword, on live TV
-
Hell, this June I will no longer need to pay for television.
I always thought these two shows complimented each other well. Back when LOST was sucking in s2/s3, 24 was in its prime. By the time LOST was getting great again in the second half of s3, 24 was showing us how truly awful the show can get with the latter half of season 6.
Say what you will about 24 season 6, those first 4 episodes were outstanding. RIP Curtis.
And the best, most complete seasons of the show are season 1 and 5. -
Sure, 24 aint been that great recently but now it's ending - along with LOST - that leaves just SUPERNATURAL as the only show I give a fuck about. There's FUCK ALL to replace these shows on my tv schedule. I've got no interest in a show about advertising executives, or a drug dealing teacher. I want fucking epic tv shows that make me want to watch again next week.Fuck!
-
Kind of because the show has really become a little too ridiculous for my taste. I've enjoyed it, but this writing team is not as good as the team was under Surnow. I blame that hack Braga who ran Star Trek into the ground. I do think their feeling that they can't do more with these characters under this format is bullshit, they just refuse to try modify the format and keep it fresh. Less is more perhaps? I just think that's a cop out by the staff to not be imaginative. Eiter way, it seems its just gotten too expensive. I'd much rather the series call it quits than to continue in the doldrums its been in this season, easily the worst of the 8.
-
I've loathed this show since the beginning. It's right-wing fear porn, combined with the design sensibilities of people with ADD. HORRIFYING. Good riddance. I am so sick of hearing about Jack fucking Bauer.
-
And it will probably get replaced by a shitty reality TV show.
-
You are so right.
-
But my ranking form best to worst: 1,2,4,3,5,7,6... Season 8 has jet to show, it has some balls to NOT srew up everything. Dana's plot? Blah... Season 5 had all the good ppl killed and had a lame ending (including the Chinese Kidnapping!) Season 7 had Tony's character assassinated (Redemption for him is required!) and had that stupid White House Plot AND over-acting Jon Voight Season 3 had a lame finale Season 6 turned out to be utter crap after they nuked LA. I missed David Palmer! After his death everything went downhill! But 24's next to LOST (here's hope they don't crap out like BSG in the Finale) my favourite TV show coming to an end... And DIOX: It's a shame they don't invest in another SG-1 movie. SGU so far is pretty boring...
-
The name of the 1st movie adventure! Hopefully they don't change the actors for the worse like they did with James Bond lately...
-
remaining episodes?
-
Not only for how easy-on-the-eyes Reiko Aylesworth was, but also due to the fact that she was pretty much the ONLY worthwhile female character on the series (Rack Bauer is nice and all, but in two forgettable seasons). Not a shrieking damsel-in-distress, not a castrating bitch, not an brilliant-but-autistic computer hacker who annoys the living fuck out of the viewer every second she's on-screen, Michelle was a terrific character, and killing her off in the first FIVE MINUTES of season 5 after she and Tony had had such a great character arc over the previous three seasons was like killing off Hicks and Newt and Bishop in the OPENING TITLES of Alien 3...a collossal blunder.
-
Possibly the greatest character in 24. It was such a shame that he was killed off in S2 (what a death!)
-
..Teri was the best thing about 24, she was a real nemesis for Jack. She shouldnt have been killed off.
-
is that they reconstituted CTU, and all the worst elements it embodies in the 24 universe--moles, technobabble, political turf wars, the annoying sidekick, and the utter incompetence of the red shirts who man the joint. IOW, the same old shit.If they had taken the new elements in S7 further, like the notion that Jack could freely explore his freelance or rogue tendencies unencumbered, it would have been more interesting. Trying to stuff Jack back into a box again was never going to be believable or entertaining, despite knowing that he couldn't resist. And even though the resurrection of Tony was lame and contrived, the prospect of the double-agent world would have been fun. Why not embed Jack into that scenario and look deeper into the nature of Tony's descent?
-
Not Teri
-
Bwaha. You're a long way from home, cityslicker. ::Spits out tobacco, cocks shotgun::
-
imo. I think. I might be switching 5 and 4...I can't remember.
-
You're really missing out on Breaking Bad. I can understand Mad Men not being some peoples cup of tea...but if you watch the first few episodes of Breaking Bad...I don't think you say it doesn't make you yearn for more almost immediately. It really is fucking fantastic. I recommend giving it a shot. I've blown through the first two seasons in about a week and a half.
-
She was really great for those first three seasons. The perfect arch-villain. I really loved her. I was really sad when she was killed...but it was her time. Three seasons of epic badassery is enough for one villain. She really was great though. Then Marwan. Then Logan.
-
Boop.
-
No kidding.. CTU's continued lapses in security, whether cars getting in with bombs, or employees with questionable backgrounds, has stretched believability beyond the limits of even this series. It really is the achilles heal of this series now. This series worked so well with it's unbelievable elements because they were so sensational and surprising. This writing staff just keeps going back to the same old bag of tricks rather than coming up with new ones.
A good example - It's more of a rolleyes moment when Dana Walsh continues to come out with deeper secrets. Those moments used to make you go 'wow'.. now it's 'meh'. -
Most pointless character ever.
Sexy sure, but what a waste of space.
I used to gasp at the endings, now I sigh with disappointment. -
the main problem the show had was that after a great, tense, well written plot twist after plot twist Season 1, they went WAY too far with the Season 2 threat. Season 1 was very personal-assassination of a Presidential candidate and the kidnapping of Jack's daughter-a complete rip off of "Nick of Time" with Johnny Depp, but the producers always admitted that--and they did a far better job of it, frankly. then, instead of making the threat a somewhat greater one in Season 2, they jump all the way to terroists with Nukes on American soil. The first half of the season was still great, but after the George Mason sacrifice, it started to hit the shitter--with the endless torture of Jack, he dies, and comes back to life bullshit, it jumped the shar, nuked the fridge, went all Shymalalamading done, whatever the fuck you want to say right then and there. Since that point, there have been moments of WTF? greatness--the hotel sequence in Season 3, the whole Presidential plotline in Season 5 and the presence of Peter Weller as Henderson, who could have become a really great recurring villain and the general anarchy of that season, killing all those characters off--it was the last time I ever thougt there was a chace that they might off jack, but that was it.Then Season sux. "Nuff said about that. I liked the Tony plotline in Season7 and the fact that Jack couldn't be "superjack"--also the redeemd the Kim character a bit with that airport sequence near the end and Busty Mcfreckles was a really good character--at least I thought so.
Fuck--who ever thought a show with the conceit of Season one could ever last more than two or three seasons--maybe it shouldn't have, but it gave me some great moments, given the gaping shithole that most TV is nowadays anyhow. I just hope they throw caution to the winds for the last 12 episodes and end the thing on a strong note for those of us who have been loyal viewers since day one, minute one. -
I'm sort of glad 24 is coming to an end (on TV at any rate). I think it's been treading water for a while and I can't get into the current season at all. I can't remember what season it was (possibly season/day 6) but the story just sort of petered out, they'd have been better calling it 17.
-
I agree, he'll absolutely be living in the shadow of Jack Bauer for the rest or his career but I say better to have spent 8 years in an iconic role than an entire career in forgettable mediocrity.
And I thought season 5 was very good. -
Rack Bauer naked in the movie. I want to those tittays. And a full frontal view of her fire crotch.
-
Did you and I watch a different season 7? "The FBI" WAS fucking CTU, complete with each and every inherent flaw and weakness you listed there. About the only difference was that CTU looks like Star Trek and The FBI looked like Office Space.
-
is worse than season 6 is beyond me. Season 8 may have problems, but have you all forgotten how bad the Bauer family really was? It was nearly unwatchable. I thought season 7 was a bit of redemption, as the introduction of Renee was a welcome one. Finally a chick that can match Jack punch for punch, and I loved the story arc she had of being the goody-goody by the book agent who slowly but surely came over to Jack's line of thought on how to deal with these terrorists when the clock is ticking. Season 8, though, has so far killed all that with the Renee undercover rape backstory. I do like them setting up her and Jack to hook up. I don't like that Chloe has survived so long, as she should have been killed off several seasons ago (though I did like her with the gun last week). Honestly, I'm amazed that 24 even lasted more than a season or two. Not because it was bad or anything, but because it's on Fox, and they usually don't like to let their shows run long enough to find an audience (unless it's one of those shitty pseudo-reality shows like "Asshole in the Kitchen" or "The American Karaoke and Alcoholic Judges Power Hour" - those Fox will air five days a week if they could). Either way, I look forward to what they do with Jack on the big screen. As for my season ranking, I put it 5,1,3,7,4,2,6, with 8 not yet ranked as it's ONLY HALF OVER. Yes the Dana plotline has sucked, and yes the "mole twist" has been overused, but it has given us every reason to expect her character to get tortured and killed for our enjoyment. Plus, unlike most on here, I don't like to judge a season until the final ep. has aired (ex.: Lost season 3 sucked til halfway through when it then got really good).
-
What does it say about you that you never liked 24 but have nothing better to do than go on an internet message board dedicated to the show just to post your dislike of it. Do you not have a lives to live? Are those lives so shallow that you feel the urge to bitch on the internet about things you never cared about anyway? I feel sorry for you, because if my life was that shallow I'd have to eat a bullet.
-
The fact that they decided to undo Tony's death in the lamest way is not Season 5's fault, it's Season 7's fault. And as far as Michelle and David Palmer were concerned, what else did we need to know about these characters? Nothing. Adios.
-
A nation mourns.
-
Congratulations. You don't get a prize. What makes it right-wing? The fact that Arab terrorists want us dead? That doesn't happen. The fact that torture works? Thousands of years of it's effective use doesn't prove that. The fact that there are characters willing to put their lives on the line and even do some nasty stuff that they will find hard to live with in order to protect their countrymen? That must be it, because I haven't met a hippie yet who wasn't a coward. Why don't you find some other talkback of a show you've never seen and tell us how you hate it?
-
No surprise it's canceled.
-
hate Caprica, you hate 24 , Fringe, Lost, BSG and every other good series but you like Rambo 18 because the star came on here and talked to you all LMFAO...IDIOTS.
-
..is jack being revealed as a mole. I said it first.
-
and will miss the show.
Also, Annie Wersching=rawr. -
Believe it or not, nearing the end of Season 1 with all the mind-fuck twists they threw at us, I starting thinking this was they way Season 1 would end and that Keifer would actually be the bad guy in Season 2 (something he had played a LOT more before 24) being chased by CTU and Tony Almeida. They tried to make it look as though Tony might be dirty in Season 1, then showed us he wasn't wneh he came out of nowhere to save Teri and Kim, so I thought there was a subtle shift going on there, but I was very obviously wrong. Still, I wonder how that twist might have ended up playing out.
-
its true but there's plenty of people here that don't hate everything....but the haters are what make me keep coming back here. talk backs are half the fun
-
...Jack waking up from a terrible nightmare-infused coma in his cave home. His lieutenants ask if he's alright. He says "I'm fine, I just had the strangest dream..." He goes to a mirror and throws water on his face, and the audience sees the entire series has been a fever dream of Osama bin Laden.
-
Let me tell you about a show you labelled "emblamatic of the Bush Administration". It had a sitting Republican president engage in terrorist attacks on his own country so he could secure oil interests overseas. This came out at the HEIGHT of the Bush Administration support! You've never seen the show ever. You are fucking retarded. I hope you die in a fire because you are fucking retarded. Fact.
-
Christ, I'm surprised you have the coherent ability to actually type on a keyboard. Not for very long sentences, mind you, but still. Fucking retard. Please never breed. You will have very stupid children. Thanks, the world.
-
the show hasn't been the same without that gleaming silver mane...
-
Nothing, you're right Yack, but I'd rather have Michelle and Dave than Nadia and Wayne Palmer as president. It's a shame Powers Boothe was wasted on season six and D.B. Woodside.
-
They should've recasted him. James Morrison was as wooden as they come.
-
24 hours into 8 seasons. That's like 3 hours a season. Were the shows shown in slo-mo?
-
...tunnel vehicle change escape? Can't believe they had the balls to rehash that in the same episode as yet another mole reveal last week.
-
"Hello Jack/Austin. Go here, here, here, here and do that. Okay?" At least he went out like a champ, relatively.
-
because after 8 seasons, I'm done. They actually combined the whole ridiculous CTU worker subplot with the mole thing. Like the whole time she's been dealing with Kevin, she's also been helping the terrorists? Please. Poor Katee. Some day she'll get a role that can even come close to Starbuck.
-
Awesome shoulders on that chick.
-
Rescue Me...Mad Men...and Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia will be back this summer...but I will miss Nip/Tuck..Lost and 24.
-
Season 1: Excellent the only lame moment being Terri's amnesia episode. Season 2: Stellar only the last 2 episodes before the finale slowed the pace (the CPU kid who hacked the voice over software was lame) Season 3: Very good the Nina reappearance was forced and the fact that Palmer's assassination attempt were glossed over are weak points though. Saunders may be the most intimately portrayed villain in the series history. Great Ending. Season 4: Good individual episodes, but fails as a season. Jack pushed way into implausible Superhero status. Chain reaction terror attacks by Marwan were WAY 2 unbelievable. Forced and totally unreal ending where Jack is sacrificed by the Government. Season 5: Would have been good without the needless deaths. Henderson=great villain. excellent action sequences. Palmer's Death VERY unsatisfying. The lamest forced ending to a season (No way Jack is kidnapped that easily or quickly. Cheap excuse for a cliffhanger. Season 6: Less said the better. But they wasted Wayne Palmer who's character was just hitting stride when they wrote him out. Also felt the redeemed terrorist fellow (that light eyed arab actor) was WAY underused and wasted. Didnt watch 7 or 8. Dont think Im missing anything...

He made 30 mil off a deal with the last 3 seasons of 24. Going to be hard for him to "Fade" away...
-
It seems like everytime I've seen someone connected with the show talk about plans for a movie, the idea was to set it before some of the seasons, maybe between seasons 1 or 2 when David Palmer was still president. I'd be surprised if they suddenly change those plans now and set the movie after season 8.
-
This season has been kind of terrible, too many cat's paws/red herrings, not enough action, Bad acting, decent actors underused or made to look stupid (Katee Sackoff), and some (IMHO) truly ridiculous shit (she's a mole now? really? After all that?) So I bid a fond farewell to a show that was truly bad ass on its good days.
-
Maybe, but I'd prefer to see her as a regular on Sons of Anarchy. After BSG, that's the role she was born for.
-
is dying.he has terminal cancer.
-
the next 24 + LOST
-
24 rested.
-
thats a good joke and ive never even watched the show. top that.
-
No shit. I hear Raul Julia hasn't been too well lately also.
-
Since the production team takes a summer break after finishing from June through August, I assume they will do this at the end of this season and then begin production on the film in September which would have been the production for season 9! A good release date would be 2/4/11, they can use 2/4 for 24.
-
I hope you're not serious. Raul Julia died over a decade ago.
-
Wow even Yahoo is scooping you guys now.
-
THAT'S the important question.
-
Look competent in comparison, almost.
-

This makes me sad they didn't plan this as their last
by bruce of all trades
season. That way, Jack could have had some much needed closure. Now they're going to half-ass it and give something that just might be sort of kind of OK, but really won't be. Goddammit.
-
its like a secret treasure
-
Stephen Root being brought back to life....then re-opening his original case of trying to find what happened to the rednecks. Then the show will end with the biggest cliffhanger in TV history: What Happened To The Rednecks?
Silent clock. Show over. -
looks like 24 to me.
-
I've been watching since the first episode aired. Somehow, knowing that 9/11 had delayed the show's premiere made me want to watch it even more. It's been a fun ride but this show really fell apart in season six. I thought S7 was a rebound but this year has been a major slump. I'll always have fond memories of the first five years of 24, the era when it was a great show. I hope the final episodes start to pick up. I look forward to Jack Bauer's film adventures as well as whatever Kiefer does next.
-
since most "24" actors will now migrate to SGU and SGU is now king of entertainment which is why shows like LOST and 24 are getting canceled
-
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
-
..we'd be hearing that Heath Ledger died tomorrow. On Thursday we'd find out about Michael Jackson. Sometime in 2012, we'd learn that 24 was cancelled.
-
It doesn't really look like my kind of show but i'll give it a chance seeing as you recommend it so highly.
-
Dioxholster, you are clearly a bad troll as STU is fucking awful. Caprica has actually trumped it.
-
It's like butting into a conversation about bees and then talking about cigarettes. Doesn't quite work.
-
Right back at you, I REALLY hope you're not serious.
-
Maybe I just don't get what you meant by bringing up Raul Julia in response to a post commenting on Dennis Hopper's failing health. If you could make your point in any way clear that would be appreciated. All I saw was him mentioning Hopper's health and you responding with a mention of an actor that died in the mid-90's. I fail to see the connection.
-
...it was compared to Season 6. But really, what wasn't better than 24's Season 6? That was one of the worst seasons I've ever seen on ALL of television.
Season 7 wasn't even close to season's 1-3 (and I guess I liked 5 in kind of a guilty pleasure-ish way). S7 was still the same formula pretty much as this current year. Compare the writing of the first season to last year and I still think a true fan would honestly say that S7 was NOT that good at all.
Maybe I'm older and I'm pickier. S1 back in 2001 was appointment television. my freaking stomach would be in knots every episode. Same with S2. And for a lot of S3. I was in college then, so maybe I was immature haha :) But now it's just my background noise computer show. -
You're right that the FBI was essentially CTU-lite. But where did I say that I liked that aspect of S7? Morris and Garafolo were also part of it, and I didn't ask for them to return.I merely pointed out the aspects of S7 that I thought would be interesting to explore in S8--that Jack was an outsider, possible traitor, could work alone with a small band, and that allegiances that ex-agents have could be questioned.Instead, what we got in S8 was CTU back in full strength, and the notion that with only minimal resistance, Jack, who supposedly had other priorities like family and retirement, would step right back into his old role for his old employer.
-
and TV as we know it. you can not resist.
-
This is probably coming W-A-Y too far down in the thread to have any appreciable audience, but hey.....
The jump to a nationwide (and eventually worldwide crisis) so earky in the game really boxed the series in terms of breadth and scope for the remainder of its run. By escalating the threat to this extreme, it made it impossible for the writers to pull back and embrace a sense of the real in future seasons. Instead we were stuck with endless episodical mini-cliffhangers with resolutions too far fetched to resemble any sense of credible reality.
Jack hijacks a plane, robs a convenience store, storms an embassey, kidnaps-then-wiretaps Logan, stands mere feet from a massive prototype EMP explosion that wipes out the city powergrid, terrorist and moles countless times either invading or corrupting CTU, and on and on and on it goes.....
Someone a while ago suggested (very wisely in my opinion) that season 9 should've reverted back to Jack investigating somewhere in middle america a scaled down threat on a more personal but nonetheless damaging potential). I guess Braga and Co. didn't have the foresight or fortitude to try something to give us a fresh spin other than transplanting the same ridiculous plot turns and situational cliffhangers in different locations.
For the record, I would say:
Season 1, Season 2, Season 7, Season 5, Season 4, Season 3, Season 6, Season 8
Arnold Vosloo was by far the most valued and consequently underrated villain in the series, easily lifting the first of the 'weak seasons' beyond the disaster that was Season 3. I wouldve preferred his genius banterring over most of the other multi-seasonal arcing villanery. I would also agree that Tony's character was basically sh%t all over with the second late season reversion to villainery. The writers absolutely destroyed his character and squashed any sense of viewer 'revenge empathy' by having him UNNECESSARILY kill Larry's character last year. He could've easily just walked away countless times, but instead the writers opted for the 'cheap pop' and single-handedly desecrated and destroyed the single best character in the 24 universe.....
-
It was just the way you said s8's "biggest mistake" was bringing back CTU, when for all intents and purposes it never went away.
-
My Raul Julia reference was extreme sarcasm, in response to emeraldboy breaking some seriously old news
-
Mia Kirshner needs to be back for the finale! or Movie
-
It's as simple as this. The Republicans can't benefit politically from selling the terrorism fear card now that a Democratic President gets all of the credit for any progress made in the war on terrorism. Since that card isn't played everyday on FOX and Conservative Radio, the core audience for 24 is no longer interested in the show. Now the Conservatives are telling their mouth-breathing constituents that the real terrorists are now sitting the Whitehouse. So the threat of a foreign terrorists attack no longer concerns them. Remember when Bush was in office terrorism was the NUMBER ONE concern for 8 years?
-
In 24 David Palmer was a Democrat. They brought him back (can't remember which season) to help a different president who couldn't handle the response to terrorist threats. Leave your fucking politics out of this.
-
Stupidest fucking theory ever.
-

The politics in 24 really changed the last few seasons
by rainbowtrout1265
And hiring Garafalo, who is more well-known for bashing Conservatives and the war on terror than her acting, really symbolized the shift. The environmental nonsense didn't help, either. Jack wanting to see the Muslim cleric...the show just went nuts.
-
Yeah, that's all I got. Sorry.
-
David Palmer was the strongest president in the history of 24 and he was a Democrat. Partisan politics is the biggest problem in America. The left takes a humanitarian approach acting kind and generous while the right paints the same thing red white and blue and calls it patriotic. Anyway, back on topic, I am both sad and glad that 24 is ending this season. The show is definitely not what it once was, and it's better they quit now than to force out another season that will probably be worse than this one has turned out to be.
-
Are the best thing about owning a television these days. I think the success of Lost and Battlestar owe 24 for blazing that trail. And I hope that another series can use the idea of real-time. I wonder if they patented it.
-
Still can't understand why the Galactica finale takes so much sh%t. Like it's really completely out of the realm of possibility that their are forces beyond the limited scope and control of the human existance. Get over it.....
-
BSG had a satisfying ending that nerds complain about because they tossed out the tech and focused on the characters instead of potentially convoluted mystery resolutions. i get the sense Lost will face the same if it doesn't offer up a Big Chart o' Answers.
-
...I think Season 7 Tony was the Smoke Monster Tony. Maybe he was trying to find candidates for a new CTU.
And Jack is actually short for -- wait for it -- Jacob. The showdown will begin Jack (Jacob) VS Smoke Monster Tony. Should be a great finale. I hope "dead" Tony will come back to life in the finale once Jack finally destroys the Smoke Monster Tony.

Carlos Bernard plays a bad guy way too well to discount it
by tall_boy66
Seriously, the part when Jack pulls the gun on Tony and is basically going to pop him right there in the street and Tony, bloodied and with a dead stare in his eyes, is one of the greatest moments of all time. I like Carlos Bernard more as Evil Tony than good Tony because there's so much anger behind his eyes. That's why I love Season 7, the Tony vs. Jack stuff is way too good.
-
This was not considered good television? I mean, really? All that history behind Tony made the payoff so damn good. And this is also a guy who sold out his country's security and lives for his wife's life. I buy he'd go nuts to avenge her.
-
If you can forgive the contrived and ridiculous explanation for his resurrection, his turn to the dark side makes perfect sense. His anger is entirely justified. He's lost his wife and unborn son, which were pretty much the only thing that gave his life meaning at that point, and he's willing to take down anyone he views as responsible for that, no matter who gets in his way.
-
that Tony would kill innocents to SAVE Michelle and/or his child. But to basically bear the responsibility of a shit-ton of innocent deaths to AVENGE them? No, I wasn't having it then and I never will.
-
I've enjoyed every season, but I agree that it's time. There's so much good TV on these days, that I'll appreciate the free hour [and I love my computer PVR software...]
-
How about a stupid action/buddy/comedy movie with Bruce Willis? Two hours of making fun of themselves and the action roles they've done. That would be brilliant!!
-
I mean, it was ridiculously implausible and they killed off a lot of major characters, but that was part of what made it great. They had the cast of fuckin' Robocop for crissakes and Julian Sands! How can you get better than that? And then, towards the end, where it suddenly turns into Metal Gear Solid, and they introduce the frickin' Patriots!
Jack being sent to China was such a strong opportunity, and they missed, hard. A season of him escaping from a Chinese prison would've been an amazing season six. Instead, they went with the absolutely awful season that came afterwards.I used to be addicted to this show. I would make sure I didn't have plans on Monday nights so I could see this. I got whatever girls I was dating at the time into the show during the various seasons. Season six almost made me give up. Season eight did. I stopped watching about five episodes in.There's so much that could've been done with the show, but those opportunities were passed a long, long time ago. Season seven started to improve the show, but it never got back to the heights of Seasons 1-5. And now, this season, even hearing Stephen Root was on it wasn't enough for me to tune back in. -
It's too bad the couldn't have told them before they wrote up this season. It would have been interesting to see what they would have done with it, given advance notice. Perhaps they'd have two moles that didn't even know about each other. Hilarity ensues.I'll probably watch the movie, if they put it out, but it'll seem like a let down after starting each season with two back-to-back two hour movies.
-
What a disaster!
What am I going to do now every Sunday night here in London?! -
They will have to really bust their taints to have the same awesometivity that some of the best season openers had in the first 4 hours like seasons 2 and 4 and 5.
-
villains better then hopper. Even on 24.
-
So conservatives are too stupid to see this show leans to the left but every left-wing on here accuses it of being right-wing. So are they stupid for thinking it's right-wing, too? Does that make the left wingnuts stupid or is it just you?
-
was obviously a Democrat but this show was a right-wing fantasy. Riiiight.
-
I loved 24 for a long time. There should be a federal law passed that prohibits Brannan Braga and Manny Coto from every being allowed to work in any form of entertainment again. They should be forced to work as ditch diggers or garbage men for the rest of their lives as punishment for destroying Star Trek and 24 in one lifetime. Isn't that enough. I look forward to the movies and hope they bring in fresh blood to write and direct the movies.
-
So what? It's still fear-mongering torture porn. Goodbye, Jack fucking Bauer.
-
After a failed mission he falls into a coma, all that we know of 24 has been Jacks coma-induced fever dreams.
That is why he is able to escape alive from all of these weird 24 hour predicaments. And why timelines make no sense in 24.
If they did the show's 8th season would be somewhere in the year 2019.
And if thats the case how come the agents dont have laser pistols?
Jack wakes up in a federal hospital in Virginia and gets a visit from Senator David Palmer.
The senator briefs him on some intel he has received on a possible terrorist attack on America. Intel that the government is having a hard time verifying and acting upon.
Jack gets a call from Tony at CTU who informs him of a lead they were working prior to being ordered off the task by Division.
Jack asks Palmer to authorize him to set up a team in order to help him.
Tony Almeida, Mike Doyle, Curtis Manning, and Chase Edmonds are flown in to be Jacks backup team.
With Chloe, Nina, and Bill running intelligence for them back at CTU LA.
They are tasked with thwarting the events of 9/11.

Brian Hastings as some sort of badass. Any ideas what pop-culture nonsense I should include in this picture? Him sitting on a mountain of shrimp?

"hippie-killer" seriously uses term "fear mongering torture porn
by tall_boy66
so a guy who hates hippies actually uses the term "fear mongering" in a sentence seriously. Irony, thy name is that douchebag "hippie-killer". Seriously, "hippie-killer" please explain how the show was Fear-mongering and torture porn. I would get a laugh out of you trying to go around in logic circles explaining your bullshit false logic of rationalization and lies and bullshit.
-
Laffed so much I dropped my smoke in my wine.
-
Series will end with Jack at Terry's grave. He places flowers, puts his head down -- BOOM: Silent clock. You read it here first.
-
You used "bullshit" twice in the same sentence. Nice form.
-
Yet Jack doesn't end his life. Phillip Bauer, very much alive, appears and explains that the man Jack left to die on the oil rig was actually his twin brother Arthur, who had been kidnapped from his extended undercover assignment posing as a sheep farmer and brainwashed into believing he was actually Phillip.
-
We have already dealt with Jack stopping a nuke, stopping chemical weapons, attempts at the life of the president... shit most of those have happened twice on the show.
There really isnt any sort of threat that is larger than the ones already explored.
Thats why this last season is about a threat to something existential, like stopping a treaty that might bring peace in the middle east.
Well imo the only way to top all of that is to have Jack try and stop 9/11 from happening.
Sure the "threat" of a plane hitting NY is not as much as that of the president being taken out, or of a nuke dropping on Los Angeles... but the fact that it really happened would lend it that much more gravitas.
It would be the only way to make stopping this attack mean MORE than the previous attacks that Jack has tried to stop.
Then again... the show can reveal that Jack Bauer was real, that he tried to stop the attack, and that 9/11 happened because Jack Bauer failed.
So Jack now feels responsible for the deaths of everyone on 9/11 and vows to bring Bin Laden to his knees... even if he has to torture every last al-Qaeda member out there!

I used bullshit twice cause you're full of bullshit, you bullshi
by tall_boy66

-
Dur, I think if I throw out a term like fear mongering torture porn it makes me sound like I gots smarts. DUR! Also my name is hippie killer, which makes me a bullshit douchebag all on itself! MONGERING! DUR!
-
Fear mongering! Get it? It's Fear and MONGERING! Hah! MONGER!
-
Cause it's made for wacking off while mongering to torture! ah-hah! Me so smartie!
-
Sad to see it go, but I guess it's time if the current showrunners are truly out of ideas. I think they could have easily gone for a much smaller threat to jack than him saving the US/World from yet another terrorist doomsday weapon and been able to easily do another season (or more). It would have been great to see Jack kicking ass internationally as well. There's a lot more stories that can easily be told with the character, but I don't think the current showrunners are talented enough to do it and it shows with some of the stupid shit they've done this year - redneck plotline, Dana as YET ANOTHER MOLE at CTU, CTU getting attacked AGAIN, Nukes AGAIN. Here's to hoping the final season at least ends on a high note.
My ranking of the seasons (8 ranked on how i feel about it as of right now): 1 & 2, 3 & 4, 5 & 7, 8....... 6. -
with turketron_2's season assessment.
-
Sad to see it finally end on FOX (due to NBC rumors who knows after season 8 if it will "end")...But after how bad this season has been no one should be shocked or surprised at this point. The writers just don't seem to try hard any longer at impressing the audience with a genuine show.
-
Or have they yet to film it? Regardless, I imagine they would go back anyway and re-film given the news that it's ending.
-
....to come up with a new ending and shoot it if they need to, in order to give the series some closure. I think they went into this season knowing this could possibly be the last year, so they may have already shot an ending with that in mind. I just hope what's left is better than what we've gotten so far. This season could rival 6 for the worst ever, unless they do something really spectacular.
-
they can move fringe to 24s old
time slot. paired with house maybe
itll get better ratings -
... of the fictional show that they had on V for Vendetta. The name escapes me, but I think it had "Saxon" in it. It was basically about this muscular white guy who ran around saving people (usually blonde women) from dastardly-looking dark-skinned bad guys in Arab-style garb. I can't help of thinking of that show whenever anyone mentions 24.
-
We read a message board for five minutes. You spent 8 years. Who wasted more time?
-
Daniels was a democrat.
Taylor is a republican.
Your case just got blown out of the water -
Case closed
-
This is certainly a step in the rigt direction.
-
Send a pile of d-bags to take on Jack/Rack, he'll stack 'em like firewood.
Good stuff, though it's only a matter of time before Rack buys the farm.
Too bad really. -
We saw that in season 3 with the old black man threatening Palmer.
-
Yes, it's very convenient but they set it up earlier in the season when we saw him taking the heart meds. So at least it's plausible.
-
I mean, HE WAS married to Gina Torres, and her pussy reportedly DOES taste "like butter".
