Mission: Impossible IV producers are in talks with an Incredible director!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a little update on the world of Ethan Hunt. It's been known for a while now that JJ Abrams was going to produce, not direct, the next installment of Tom Cruise's spy actioner franchise in order to move on the next Trek. According to The Heat Vision Blog over at The Hollywood Reporter both Cruise and Abrams has been sniffing around some very interesting directors, such as Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer and one Mr. Edgar Wright. I've heard those names bandied about a bit over the last few weeks, both hushed and not so hushed. The new name being touted is possibly the most interesting fit. Brad Bird has been talking about moving into live-action for a long time. In fact, we even touched upon it in my all-too-brief interview with him at Comic-Con the year The Incredibles came out (read that here, even if the formatting hasn't survived the last 6 years in perfect running order). And if you remember he's been trying to get a flick called 1906, set around the catastrophic San Francisco earthquake, off the ground for years. I love Edgar and think he could direct the shit out of a mega-budget spy flick, but I'd rather see him start his own franchise, perfectly. Fleischer has a great visual eye, but the way Bird composes action in Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Ratatouille has me the most intrigued. And he's also hungry, wanting to prove himself in a new medium while also having a rather great filmography to live up to at the same. What do you folks think of this development? -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter
