Live in Chicago? Wanna see an advanced screening of KICK-ASS? Of course you do. Capone has the details!!!

Published at:  Mar 18, 2010 12:32:27 PM CDT

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

I know I said at one of the last screenings I did that I was going to be traveling a bunch and probably wouldn't have anything again for those in and around Chicago until well in to April. Well, I'm a dirty, dirty liar. I am still traveling, but I managed to squeeze in one critical screening next week. Coming off a rousing Butt Numb-a-Thon screening in December and triumphant SXSW Film Festival Opening Night slot last week, I'm ready to bring the awesomeness of KICK-ASS to Chicago.

I'm not going to pump up this film any more than it already has been. At this point, you know all you need to know about the greatness of KICK-ASS. Now it's time to see for yourself how director Matthew Vaughn has taken Mark Millar's great comic book series and turned it into the greatest film of the 21st century! (ahem, sorry)

I've got about 200 seats (it may actually end up being more) for Chicago-area Ain't It Cool News readers for a screening KICK-ASS on Wednesday, March 24 at 7:00pm, at a theater in downtown Chicago (the exact location will only be given to contest winners). Here's how to secure a pass good for you and one guest.

Send me an email at caponeaicn@aintitcoolmail.com (please note the new email address) with the subject line "KICK-TUSH!!!" In the body of the email, I need your Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (guests' names are not required), and the answer to the following question (read carefully): "If you became a superhero today, what would your hero name and abilities be (assuming you did not suddenly get actual super powers)?" Keep your responses BRIEF--limit your answers to 75 words or less (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit). People with the most creative heroes win. Winners will receive an email from me this weekend.

And a word to those who consistently tell me they're bringing a guest and show up solo, don't ask for a guest if your guest isn't 100 percent confirmed. If you show up without a guest, I'll punch you in the throat and probably chop your legs off (in the spirit of the film).

Please keep in mind that this is not an exclusive AICN event, and it is slightly overbooked to make sure there is a full house. If you cannot arrive at this screening early, please do not enter. If there's even the slightest chance you'll have to back out of attending if you do win, don't enter. If you have a job that might make you late or unable to attend, or an ill/pregnant relative, or a temperamental significant other, or a scratchy throat, do not enter. Anyone not showing up without informing me ahead of time so I can fill their seats is no longer eligible for future screening contests.

Good luck, everyone!

Saw it in St Louis a couple weeks back...

...WELL worth the time spent. One of the funniest movies I've seen in a while. Nick Cage channeling his inner Adam West is truly geekgasmic.

See if they have the looping sound demonstration thingy before the movie like they did down here. It's a cityscape at night with a cloudy sky and a bright searchlight going. This ran for about ten or fifteen minutes, looped over and over, at the STL screening. See if the icon in the searchlight doesn't look like a penis and balls with wings.

    it's basically WANTED 2

    by pajamo12

i saw it a few weeks back. found the constant mtv-editing distracting. and it's not really a comedy at all.

    was hoping for more. sigh.

    pajamo12...um...how is it Wanted 2?

    by ravenloff

The main character has absolutely no "special" talents. There is no cabal of "special" assassins. There is no loom. Just to name a few things.

And how do you come to the conclusion it's not a comedy? A dark comedy to be sure, but how can jetpacks, miniguns and Elvis not be funny? How can Nick Cage doing Adam West not be funny?

    Ravenloff is IS wanted 2

    by pajamo12

in tone and spirit. it LOOKS an awful lot like Wanted.

yes, the main character never gets bullet time but so what he's another d-bag that gets tossedinto a world that is overblown by design.

totally agree on cage and the little girl though. they both rocked. but not enough to save it for me.

i mean, the baddie and mclovin' are paper thin.

tonally it reminds me so much of wanted because the editing feels like it's barking at you from off the screen. it's all "pay attention to me!" man, i wish it would have loosened up and let us enjoy getting to know the characters. and it sort of does with cage and daughter but not enough. and come on, the lead is a washout out. he's got no layers.

JuicyFruit is is a "comedy" but

    by pajamo12

it's so interested in it's assaultive editing that it feels more like that guy at a party who overlaughs at his own jokes. "it's funny, right?! right?!" um. no.

to be fair, i DO think it's a hard balancing act. it wants to be funny and endearing and well, "kick-ass". and in my opinion it never found a way to do it.

    Chicago Bar Times

Different bars close at different hours throughout the city. On Wednesday nights, you won't find anything open beyond 4:00 a.m. (5:00 a.m. on Saturday nights)--unless you or someone you know belongs to a "key" club.
