Dustups On GHOSTBUSTERS 3??
Merrick here...
New York Magazine's Vulture section has an interesting article regarding political posturing and shenanigans on GHOSTBUSTERS III.
To put the issues in its simplest terms, Sony seems to be horny for a younger, hipper director to make the movie - even though Ivan Reitman was believed to be returning as director. But...
Reitman's old contract — made at the height of his and Ovitz's powers — still gives him exceptional creative control over the series, including director approval. "Those deals were made in the eighties,” explains one insider. “So his rights in this circumstance have a great deal of teeth.” Therefore, while it’s true that Reitman can’t force Columbia to make Ghostbusters III with him, he can make it nearly impossible for the studio to make the film without him.
...says Vulture in a detailed article HERE.
Complicating matters? Vulture says:
...all three original principals (Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis … sorry, Ernie Hudson!) have a deal that says that if any of the four of them don’t like any element of a new Ghostbusters, they can singlehandedly veto and kill the project; it has to be unanimously approved before going forward. (Considering that both Aykroyd and Ramis have been consulting on the story, Murray is likely the only unknown quantity on the actors’ side.) However, the key difference is that Columbia would love for these actors to be onboard to pass the torch and cross the streams. Not so with Reitman.
So, whose side will the actors take? Does this news signify the drawing of battle lines? Or, is this merely a predictable shaking out process that'll eventually be resolved through perseverance and the strategic application of money? Or, was Bill Murray right during his recent Letterman appearance?
In a previous post about this film, I openly pondered whether the studio would want to move forward with Reitman on-board as director...for a variety of reasons. Everyone thought I was being mean-spirited and bitchy at the time, but...here we are (apparently). I'm not sayin' Ivan should, or should not, direct GB3. Just saying...politically and historically...this supposed development isn't a terribly big surprise.

I think! Sorry. Had to. First time since 1999!
-
I wonder what the finished product will look like?
-
And I was! On topic? This film ain't gonna get made. Not sure if that's a shame or a relief.
-
I'm secretly rooting for this one to work out.
-
Not good news. Or is it? There are plenty of us who want to see a new Ghostbusters movie, but not if it's half-assed. Or even full assed. It needs to be 110% assed.
-
..couldn't the rest of the principals (Murray,Ackroyd, Ramis) throw him a bone?
-
Reitman perfected his craft on Your Super Ex Girlfriends and now we will never no what have could of been.

And if it is made, I don't know if it will be good.
But I do know, with 100% certainty, that if this movie is made, it will have CGI farting ghosts. The ghosts will fart green clouds that make a lot of noise. This will happen no fewer than three times over the course of the movie.
MARK MY WORDS. -
-- and the rest will follow.
Old cast, new cast, old director, new director - Doesn't matter. Just make it funny.
Am I right? -
Get off your asses and make this instead of Zombieland 2!
-
...makes this idea sound shittier and shittier. Put it to bed and just move on people, if it ever gets made this film will be nothing but a disaster from start to finish.
-
Both you and Ramis are dead as directors. Just shut up and keep funding your sons shitty ass movies till he finally wins that Oscar and shuts the fuck up and stops making that pissy face.

Hope they realize when they don't agree on a project that..
by vulcan_csc_rep
They are purposely keeping everybody else from putting food on the table. Set builders, writers, craft services, animators, lighting and sound people...hundreds and hundreds suffer because 3 people can't agree to a project. Fuck them.
-
its not like they've hired a whole crew and they're just sitting there and waiting for a decision.
-
& company take over the Ghostbusters franchise. Nothing could ever live up to the original. Not even Reitman, Murray, Ackroyd could make a film now as good as that one.
-
But he made the ghostbusters we know today. He grounded it in reality. he made the science work behind it. the original script before he got his hands on it was silly and dumb as fuck.

The idea of all the original principle actors/director not back
by soylentmean
haunting me. Like a ghost. That needs to be busted. If they're not gonna do this right and not have everybody on board then why don't they just go the remake route, since that seems to be what the studio wants anyways. I've got the original films to watch. Haven't we learned anything from the Star Wars prequels/Indy 4?
Get over it indeed. -
I think Ivan deserves another shot, not only did he get it so right the first time but he also needs a chance to wash out the bad taste of Evoluton and My Super-Ex. Although I wonder why Harold Ramis couldn't step behind the camera, it's not his onscreen presence is hugely taxing for these films and he's been doing solid work on TV's "The Office". Heck, I even thought Year One wasn't too bad.
-
Let Akroyd make his original idea about what the Ghostbuster were. If you don't know what it was read Blackest Night or watch Highlander The Source.
-
I even thought Year One wasn't too bad. Yeah lets not let you make decisions for a while. The worst movies I've ever seen are probably Evolution and Year One. Followed by Transformers. I mean yeah I've seen a lot of shit, but its something else when you have talent involved and Evolution and Year One is the best you can do. God those movies were fucking awful. And solid work on The Office???? Are you kidding me? How hard is it to direct an episode of the office?

I think the "Ghostbusters" videogame may be the closest-
by the reluctant austinite
-we ever see to a "Ghostbusters" movie with the original cast. We may have to wait for Reitman and the original cast to die before an inevitable "reboot". Hollywood doesn't want to invest a lot of money in a movie made by "an old dude" who doesn't have the pusle on humor for today's audiences, and I doubt the orignal three actors want to be in something where their entire job is basically just to show up and officially pass the torch to three new, young guys.
-
Reitman..."made the science work behind it"?
What the fuck are you talking about? -
This is going to be an Epic Failure of mammoth proportions and should be halted immediately. There is ONE good Ghostbusters movie. Let's not sully it's memory anymore than it already has been by the TERRIBLE Ghostbusters 2 and the equally retarded videogame.
-
...I guess its not that hard to speak proper english when you pretend youre Russian or whatever... ban hammer, strike thee!
-
And stop posting non-stories about it.
-
If you ever wanted a peak at invisible racism, watch "Ghostbusters" pan-and-scan on VHS. The widescreen cinematography includes a great number of shots with all four Ghostbusters lined up on screen, but they can't fit them all in the cropped image. Guess who gets cut out EVERY time?
-
Actually Reitman, Ramis and Ackroyd haven't done anything usefull in probably the past 10+ years. No wonder Bill Murray is holding out.
-
Before he got involved there where not proton packs, traps, Ecto 1, containment unit. He made the Ghostbusters like firemen. He gave them believable tools that would make you think it was possible to catch a ghost.
-
Gotcha. Sounded like you were inferring that the science behind it was legitimate.
-
You are just going off of Akroyd's first script like I said. They were set in space and were going to fight/battle whatever other ghostbuster throughout the galaxy, they said if they had tried to make that then it would have cost over 200 million dollars back then. And I think the proton packs and a lot of that stuff was all in the original script. Its on IMDB trivia page.
-
God no. I guess I should have said film science.
-
Ever since Murray confirmed the rumour of him being killed off early in the film, it's sounded more and more like a bad idea to me. If this had been simply a fun, comedic movie about the old guys being forced to drag themselves out of retirement to once again save New York then I'd have been up for it. I'd have even liked it if we'd got midway through the movie and the team realise they're not up to this shit anymore so decide to take on new recruits. But the whole concept of killing off one of the 4 principle characters right at the start of the film puts me off altogether. Some people might consider it a cool idea, others might not be fussed either way and would still like to see Ghostbusters 3 get made. But I can't pretend to like this idea. Don't make the movie, Reitman.
-
The packs where wands i believe. But yeah. But they where not nuclear excelerators or anything like that. It was all added by Reitman. Who wanted to ground it and make it more believable.
-
I love Murray's work, but the man's ego has swelled to monstrous proportions. Hudson is a darn good actor and deserves much more respect.
-
Ian Holm gets cast as Bilbo. That's the only way another Ghostbusters movie works. Without Ian as Bilbo it's a travesty and I'll have no part of it.
-
Seriously who gives a shit anymore?
-
It was gonna suck anyway..at least they can hold onto some semblance of dignity
-
I think they should find a young talented director whom the Ghostbusters approve of. And perhaps Ivan will willingly bow out of the movie....maybe if they chose Jason Reitman, he would...though that douchebag might not be a better choice....
-
Seriously, as long as it's forever a rumor or in development hell the movie gets better ever day. Eventually it becomes the motion picture equivilent to SMiLE where it's legend grows forever. If they make it though we'll just get Chinese Democracy instead and everybody will hate it.
-
I don't think we can say it was racism pure and simple. That might have been an unconscious component, but Murray and Ackroyd were established stars from SNL and movies, and Ramis had costarred with Murray in Stripes. What had Hudson been in before then? If you're gonna cut out one guy from those scenes, honestly, who's it gonna be?
-
has turned into a dick. It's as if he woke up one day and decided to turn his back on the style of goofy comedy that defined his entire career.
Him shoe-horning the others into killing him off is akin to George Lucas bitching to Stephen Spielberg about Indy IV needing to be about aliens. They whine for years until everyone else involved breaks down and goes with it. -
A young, hipper director that you know would keep his father's vision at heart...
-
Huge Ghostbusters fan. Loved it. I consider Perter Venkman and Irwin Fletcher to be me role models in life. Don't make this move. No one really wants to see fat gray-haired Ghostbusters running around. Let it stand unmarred as a product of its time. Murray as a ghost? How is that going to be funny, or fun to watch?
-
He hasn't done anything interesting in ages, and no one wants a repeat disaster of the Star Wars prequels. We should have a talented up and coming director instead of Reitman (and please don't choose his son to replace him).
-
Tired of this now.
Sounds like a damn mire. Won't ever happen. -
Would be a bad choice. While Ivan Reitman probably directed about half of all of his sons movies for him, I doubt Baby Reitman would be able to handle have to work on his dads property. I mean in any interview with the guy he has to state how being the son of Ivan Reitman didn't help him at all in becoming a film director, he would flip out once everyone found out his dad pretty much is the ONLY reason he has a career.
-
he's stolen from his father or directly copied from Wes Anderson. I wonder if Judd Apatow would be interested in mixing genres like he did with Funny People, but this time instead of mixing drama and comedy, he would be mixing sci-fi, horror and comedy.
-
Listen, just let "young, hip" Jason Reitman direct it. You get dad's approval, the studio gets their hipster director and everyone is happy. There it is.
-
The team behind Zombieland should handle this, if anyone.
-
Shaun of the Dead?
-
I really don't want this movie to happen.Every 80's revival has been a disaster.Only Stallone got it right.
-
Jeez, come on people. It's a 20 year old property that did massive business and has enormous recognisability - does anyone genuinely believe it won't be brought back? All of these very public "will they, won't they", "it's on, it's off" spats are just building awareness again and duping people into 'wanting' it again. If they got Murray back as Venkman for the game, you can bet your ass he'll sign up for the truckload of cash that'll be dumped on his front lawn when he agrees to the movie. As to Reitman, he'll get it, or he'll personally pick who does. It'll happen - I have no doubts whatsoever. A new Ghostbusters flick now, with the original cast for at least part of the film would absolutely slay the box office. There's no way in hell it won't happen unless we all get nuked before principal photography, it's just a question of when they decide they've built enough interest in the saga of whats going on behind the scenes. Let's be honest - who here wouldn't go and see it? Very few. Ghostbusters is one of the few geeky franchises that even the average joe loves. It's massive, massive coin to them all. It'll happen.
-
Utter shite.
-
I just watched Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and Junior BACK to BACK to BACK and I just about bashed my friggin head into a brick wall.
Sorry Reitman.
You have lost it. -
This is kind of bothering me:
"all three original principals (Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis … sorry, Ernie Hudson!) have a deal that says that if any of the four of them don’t like any element of a new Ghostbusters, they can singlehandedly veto and kill the project"
So if any of the FOUR of them can veto it, why do only THREE of them "have a deal"? Am I reading that wrong? -
...would only be funny if he played the same character from The Hand That Rocks The Cradle.
-
as far away as possible. Please.
-
What the hell is a "younger, hipper" director going to do differently an or better than the original helmer? Music video style editing and stupid toilet humor? Fuck you studio suits. You just want someone to control bc you're too cowardly to trust anyone anymore.
-
There's still time for Fletch III. Believe it.
-
Surely, there must be a prophecy that references the fate of the GHOSTBUSTERS franchise...
-
In other words, total crap. For one thing, it's waaaay too late to be doing this film - as with Indy 4, it's at least 15 years overdue. All the guys are so creaky and unknown now (well, to the majority of the mighty 18-to-25-year-old demo) that no Hollywood studio will touch a sequel without someone like Shia LaBeouf to "bring in the kids." As for Reitman - please. Beyond creaky. Maybe his kid can do it, but not him. In all, I sense massive failure if this film comes to fruition.
-
Bill Murray is already bitching about it. Why do it if they are going to kill him off in the first scence anyway?
-
This has swinging from monkey vines written all over it.
-
They will eventually make the damn movie, but we all know that when a project is in hold for years because of a variety of reasons, and when it is green lighted,it is encounters a lot of difficulties from the get-go,then the chances to become a good movie are scarce.
-
And some casting approvals. And be executive producer. That's it.
-
I have to. The time has come and gone. They'd have enough of an audience with us old-timers (god, I'm only 27!!!!!), but just like with Indy 4, they'll try to freshen it up and make it modern and throw a high-budget graphics team at it, and then all the charm of the original will be lost.
-
Any attempt to re-capture the magic of the original will only piss on said magic. You only catch lightning in a bottle once.
-
Any attempt to re-capture the magic of the original will only piss on said magic. You only catch lightning in a bottle once.
-
sorry about the double post
-
We will all see it, there's just no doubt about it. It's a BIG moneymaker sitting right there AND it could turn out rather good. Reitman is obviously busy so maybe the schedule that the studio wants doesn't work out. That doesn't mean the movie shouldn't be made. Reitman's influence is going to be there even if he's not sitting in the chair.
-
sabotage the franchise, by pitching this dumb idea (Ghost Venkman) to the writers, and insisting that this plot development will be the only way to lure him back in. If he said, "And another demand: Venkman must only have scenes set in the Bahamas", I bet you the writers would find a way to shoehorn it in. It's obvious from the Letterman interview that his heart's not in it, and that he's just annoyed by people's love for the franchise more than anything.
-
I met Ernie Hudson this weekend at the Chicago Hollywood Colelctor's Show and asked him about Ghostbusters III. He said he is signed on but hasn't seen a script yet. Personally, if it doesn't happen, I won't be upset. CGI ruins everything and even Ghsotbusters II was lame.
-
I think Reitman would do a phenemonal job... Jason Reitman that is
-
boom. problem solved
-
the franchise.Because the public associates him with his legendary role as Dr Venkham.BU
T we all know that Murray the only thing that he always wanted was to be seen as a great actor and win an Oscar. He almost did it but at the end of the day,he will be remembered in history as one of the Ghostbusters.
i dont judge him about this choice of his,if he wants to be viewed from the majority of us, as a good, serious actor than just a talented comedian then so be it,its his right. But since he hasnt managed to achieve this i understand his hate against his most famous role and his bitterness.Remember that a similar thing happened with Sellers. -
I can honestly see it go either way at this point. While everyone knows it wont live up to the previous films, I still wouldnt mind seeing a third Ghostbusters film. Most people pray for hollywood not to make mediocre sequels to their favorite childhood films, but in the end wouldnt you rather have that than a crappy remake of some other shit movie or a whole new crappy film? And who knows, maybe it wont suck as much as we try to tell ourselves it will. There is in fact a chance (a small one) that it could be "good." My instincts tell me though that this film will probably get made either way though, either as a full-on sequel or remake. Needless to say, Id love to see a sequel much more than a remake. Even better: a Zombieland/Ghostbusters crossover.
-
Many Shuvs and Zuuls will know what it is to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

LMAO, this will never get made. Release the script on the intern
by mike_d
that's where it's gonna end up in a few months anyways.
-
I'm not done with it, and the gameplay isn't perfect... but holy shit it IS Ghostbusters. All the humor, all the banter between the guys... you're right there in that shit. I haven't made it too far yet but I will eventually complete it as well.
-
Outside of the trade magazine quote, can't anyone on this site spell this guy's name correctly? Good lord.
-
as gameplay goes.As a GB experience though, yeah it is GB3.
-
Comedy requires a younger eye and sensibility. Comedic writers and directors don't age well, they're forever stuck in the time where they reigned. On the plus side, a new director will bring a freshness needed to restart the series. On the negative side, it might not feel like it fits with the first 2 movies.
Personally, I hope it never gets made. Leave it alone. -
Show some respect people.
-
Ruben Fleischer who did Zombieland. He has the right sensability for the material; he's a young and hot director coming off of Zombieland; GB3 would make a natural big budget follow-up, and he might talk Murray reprising his role.
-
Though I still think this franchise is done...moviewise. But if they were to do it, he would be infinitely better than Reitman to direct.
-
One of my favorite lines from the original "Ghostbusters".
Speaking of Dogs and Cats livingin together...can't we all just get along!?!?
I mean come ON!!
This goes out to both the Studio, The Actors involved and whoever is directing this supposed film sequel!
Set aside any differences, enough with the fucking pissing contest, my dick is bigger than your dick-I can veto any storyline if I don't approve-blah blah blah fuckin BLAH!!
Come up with a killer script and stroyline, get together film it, have some terrific special effects from ILM or WETA (or whoever) and give US the fans a sequel worthy of the first film!! Let's erase the memory and bad taste let in our mouths after seeing the second one which reeked! (Unfortunately AMC channel has a BAD habit of running Ghostbusters II a lot!)
I don't fucking care if the third one invovles "passing the torch to a new GB Generation or not"...make a film we can all enjoy and stop screwing around and disappointing everyine who hears bits and pieces of.."there is gonna be a film, there isn't going to be a film, no wait it's a video game" crap! -
it's just a big fat mess of developmental bullshit, and bizarre whims. Ghostbusters 2 horribly undermined the original, and at this rate, this will serve to utterly wreck it along the lines of The Phantom Menace.
-
haha yeah that is also one of my fav lines from the original.I always use it in similar situations.
-
Cuz he hella dead, and shit...
-
And yet everyone seems to be blaming everyone else but him...Im sorry great actor but he strikes me as being smug, unlike ackroyd and ramis...
-
"No one will ever believe you!"
-
Delroy Lindo as Winston Zeddemore.
-
Paul Rudd, Seth Rogan, Danny Pudi and Craig Robinson.
You know you want it, Hollywood. -
When Murray delivers this line watch the prisoner extra behind him... hilarious surprise reaction.
-
Not crazy about the rest of 'em, though.
-
Respect BITCHES!
-
Congo, The Substitute, Oz. Enough said.
-
Jon Hamm, Paul Rudd, Aziz Ansari and Bill Hader for new Ghostbusters and Kristin Wiig as the new receptionist.
Aykroyd, Ramis and Hudson have supporting roles intermittently through the film as mentors.
The film opens on Murray doing some funny scene then being killed by a ghost/agent of the villain, then Murray pops up unexpectedly as a ghost himself later in the film and aids the new 'busters in some crucial way. -
Seriously, i don't know if it's cos he's almost laying back with his leg in that sling, or what, but he sounds a dead ringer for Kermit the Frog. Am I wrong?
-
Come ON, look at all the paranormal investigation shows on TV right now - Ghost Hunters, A Haunting, even freaking Animal Planet has a paranormal show! Ghosts are hotter than ever as grist for the Hollywood mill; and if anything, Ghostbusters, if handled right, could come back stronger than ever. Makes more sense to bring THAT back than those fricking Muppets. Plus CGI will enhance the Ghostbuster experience, make it more entertaining/creepy/believable than ever. GB's time has come.
-
That whole bit, with the Statue of Liberty was just very silly.
-
...y'know, the original was like an old Hope/Crosby movie wiht a bigger budget. But back then, those guys worked, movies, tv, radio, records, they just kept busy. And they would knock out a "Road" picture every so often. Nowadays, you gotta get a gross of half a billion dollars and the stars don't wanna read the script unless it's been worked over a few dozen times. The three principal actors would be funny just siting in a room riffing. So get to fuckin work already. The more you drag it out, the bigget the expectations. Shit, Hope and Crosby woulda had 6 or 7 Ghostbusters by know. Maybe not all classics, but so what.
-
Finally someone agrees with me.
-
First of all, the reason why GHOSTBUSTERS 2 stunk on ice was that it was a smug cash-grab by a group of people who figured they didn't have to try half as hard to make twice the money. The few funny bits in the film either came from the fact that Ackroyd, Murray and Ramis are talented enough to grump out some chuckles despite being lazy or from Peter MacNicol, who seemed vowed and determined to be the only memorable thing from that film. Nobody gave a tin shit about actually making a movie and it shows.
Second, GHOSTBUSTERS was lightning in a bottle, much like BACK TO THE FUTURE, JAWS, VACATION, SPEED, DIE HARD ... well, you get the idea. The joke stops being funny after you hear it enough times. The first GHOSTBUSTERS was fun. The second GHOSTBUSTERS had one or two laughs and some polite chuckles, but it felt like work. The third one will be a piece of retro-nostalgic shit. You could bring Ernie-fucking-Kovacs back from the dead, along with the Marx Bros., Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, John Belushi and Richard Pryor, force them to write the script and you STILL wouldn't have anything worth shooting. You want GHOSTBUSTERS nostalgia to pay new dividends? Reissue the first one theatrically. Hell, go all Lucas on it and redo the effects if you must. Otherwise, move on and make YEAR TWO or something. Hell, do it now, before Jack Black's and Michael Cera's fifteen minutes are completely up. Funny fat dudes don't have a high survival rate in this business!
Thirdly, while the GHOSTBUSTERS video game for PS3 and/or XBOX may have been a slice of fried gold (and everything I've heard about it indicates just that), the PS2 version, which is, unfortunately, the version I snagged, is completely embarrassing. It looked like a 640x480 port of the Nintendo DS version, except I'm sure the Nintendo DS version had a higher resolution. I wasn't expecting Pixar-quality rendering or anything, but I absolutely expected something that at least vaguely resembled a game I'd play on a PS2 console. Fuck off, Atari! -
eh? eh?
-
and the people who take it seriously would be a great target for any new GB movie. It wouldn't surprise me if it's revealed years later that the 'scientific equipment' were rigged wirelessly. Seeing the gullible newbies trying to talk to the spirits is home-movie embarrassing...
-
Oh, and whoever was asking about Hudson's credentials, he was "Washington" in mother-fucking SPACEHUNTER!!! IN 3-D!!!
-
And I still think Reitman has the chops to do GHOSTBUSTERS 3, especially since he kind of perfected the Billy Wilder-style "let's shoot this screwball movie as classy as possible" technique that saved the first GB from being a piece of shit. I thankfully dodged a bullet by not checking out SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND (Luke Wilson playing the male lead in anything is usually a warning sign, even if the movie winds up being decent, anyway!), but EVOLUTION had a lot of the old GHOSTBUSTERS-style goofy fun/neat FX appeal that was missing from GHOSTBUSTERS 2. I think audiences were rattled by Duchovney playing what was obviously a Bill Murray role (I actually thought Duchovney was a great choice), but watch it again; it probably makes a better spiritual GHOSTBUSTERS sequel than GB 3 will. Anyway, nobody on here's bitching about LEGAL EAGLES, so why jump on EVOLUTION?
-
it probably is.
-
why they'd want to displace Reitman when he drove the first two...a "younger" director will rely far too much on CGI and this will end up like Crystal Skulls. Hollywood suits always fuck things up. But I agree with the general feedback that if Murray does indeed die in the first act and appears as a lame CGI ghost that helps the GB along with a "new class", I'll pass.
-
Sequels screw up when studios try to cut costs and try to put substitutes in. They hire a lesser known writer...a lesser known director....or try to pass the torch to lesser known (and therefore lesser paid) acting talent to position them for future sequels. The right way to make a sequel is to bring back the original talent that got it right in the first place. They are the reason we are even talking about a sequel.

Ghost patch on their sleeves be making a "three" with his hand?
by la_sith
I never got why they had the "Ghostbusters 2" logo on their sleeves in part 2. Seriously one of the worst things I've ever seen in a sequel.
-
Great director, yes, but boy doesn't he know it. He's as egotistical as his pal Jason Reitman. I doubt he'd want to direct a sequel to someone else's film, even if it is his mate's dad's movie.
-
First off, Hudson wasn't really one of the major stars of the first one, and I don't see how it's insulting (or racist) to say he's not. It's true. And he had a bigger role in the sequel.I heard somewhere that Murray supposedly was only on board for the video game if they made certain Hudson was included.
-
Project would be completely doa then!
What about Slimers veto? -
it could work. you could do worse.

that implies they were flukes...the BTTF sequels are amazing, and Spielberg made many more classics after Jaws.

... just listen to the horrible commentary track. Woody and the kid are funny, but the two writers and the director bury themselves with their own self-praise and ignorance of the genre. At this point I don't want to see a GB3, too many problems now will result in a troubled production, then a sub-par movie.

Give me a hot, ass-kicking chick for this new look team and let's get the sexual tension going!

Keep them young and retain all the original voices and characters all through the magic of CGI! Enough of this! No one wants to see whale-like Egon waddling to the Ecto-1.

if they make the new one there should be no
by beyondthunderdome2girls1cupbillcosby
old or fat jokes they should just bust ghosts routine like usual, keep the obviousness out of the movie. maybe make it mockumentary style and than cthulus mother attacks at the end.
-
Don't come back here whining if Michelle Rodriguez ends up with a role in GB3.
-
"Leviathan." I really dug the shit out of that movie as a kid, mostly because it had Winston and RoboCop in the same flick. And it was a rip off of "The Abyss." And "Alien." That's fine entertainment to my feeble mind.
-
I'm guessing, in-universe, the ghost is making a V-for-victory sign in regard to the Ghostbusters' business comeback. If they have a III logo in Ghostbusters 3 then I won't have a rationalization.
-
They're waiting for Ramis and Ackroyd to lose 150 pounds. Each. Somehow Bill was the only one to not let himself go. Onin Solstice above got it right: CGI this and let Zemeckis run with it!
-
Seriously this is not Tron Legacy. This is the third fucking film a follow up sequel to one of the dumbest sequel blunders in franchise history. There is no integritiy to protect now. Camp it out as much as you fucking want. The return box office is garenteed. You hear me. This fucking movie will make back more money than what was put into it. Drop the fucking egos and handjob the people you need to get it green. If Reitman want the reigns- fucking give it to him!!! He wants a good budget, he wants final cut he want to rewrite or write the entire thing. Give it too him, stop fucking this up. Let's us as fans stop being sappy fucking whiney douches. Let's stop saying Reitman doesnt have it in him to make this movie work. Those films of his that didnt work. did they have Bill Dan and Harold in them. did they...... Fuck off. As a group they still made the shitty GB2 work. They know how to play these guys they know how to make it fun for the viewers. Got a douchey fear of Bill being a ghost. Fuck off! Why is it ok for them to fight ghosts, to have ghost as tangable characters in the film, but it's not ok for one them to become one. Are you fucking serious. Are you fucking serious!!! Get over it. If they all come back if they make the story good or mildly good, we win. Douche it up and bitch about how it sucks and it will fucking die, and you can live wiht the legacy of these films ending with them fighting an oil painting with a nintendo control statue of liberty in the big apple. Theres lots of story ideas for them to play with. We live in a time now were everyone deserves rights. Why not ghosts. There has to be a peta group by now that doesnt like what th eghost busters do. And maybe a no dicker whos part of the cause fucks something up. Gozer is on the otherside. If Peter dies he might bring it back. show a little fan support push for the people who made it to be a part of it. Dont let the studio prison bitch rumor talk convince us to agree so they can show a print out of a talk back like this to the powers and fuck Reitman out of the picture. He made them, he should be with them still. Fuck.......

i don't think a GB3 is a bad idea, making Venkman a ghost is
by glenn_the_tool
is it too much to ask just to get the original four back together busting ghosts and cracking wise? the Extreme Ghostbusters series from a few years back had a good approach to it. Egon recruits a younger group of Ghostbusters, and the series finale saw the rest of the original Ghostbusters coming out of retirement to help the newbies. can't they just do it like that?
-
and they made the staute of liberty walk through time square. And the ghost shit is fucking you up. Really. given what they have done. It's not like thjey cant make peter a ghost and then return him back to his body near the end. Shut the fuck up and support!
-
I'd love to see this, should be interesting. This is the younger director I can see Ivan will approve.
-
That could be cool. I've liked Little Ivan's ear for laughs thus far and it would add a needed touch of class to have a caliber filmmaker at the helm.
-
He's in it only for the money, he's not a scientist, and he's only there to be the everyman in part 1. In the second movie, he's essentially Jar Jar Binks.
-
Seriously, who gives a flying fuck? GB II sucked Bill Murray's donkey balls.
-
sucks cock by choice.
-
He was just a guy who signed up for a crazy job 'cause he needed work! He is the everyman! "If there's a paycheck in it, I'll believe whatever you say." Awesome! "Since I started this job, I've seen shit that would turn you WHITE!" Super awesome. And, vettebro, GB2 was awesome. I will never understand why people put it down so harshly.
-
I sat with Ramis on a flight recently, and he said they are on sched to begin filming later this year for a 2012 release. This was about a month ago...
-
Could it be his last couple films were "My Super Ex-Girlfriend," "Evolution," "Six Days, Seven Nights," "Father's Day," and "Junior?" Although to be fair, whenever he doesn't have to do much work (i.e. has an ensemble cast of comedians who do a lot of improv) he generally produces great work.
-
But the last thing I saw him in was "Soul Man" on ABC. A good, but short lived series, and his style of material was already looking dated. As it turns out, my biggest worry is with Aykroyd. After all, his "Blues Brothers 2000" was a complete dud aside from the terrific finale. BTW, I don't think Ramis can fit Egon anymore. It's been too long. It hurts to say, 'cause I loved both of the movies, but the time has passed for this series to continue.

just brain storming here but The Venkman Ghost idea while being a little strange i think they can make it work. He could be trying some sort of new Spengler invented machine and have a horrible violent death with multiple people in the room witnessing it. Everyone is standing around the lab looking at each other while venkmans dead body is smoking or something due to Egon's experiment. i think if they are going to make this idea work its gotta be like this. Especially if they are training new recruits Venkman can come in to the room acting all cocky and confident like he owns the place. If one of the recruits is a girl then he can be the volunteer for this new machine(or w.e it is) to impress her so she doesnt think hes some joke who just stood on the shoulders of Ray and Egon. Egon straps him in, powers on the machine and BAM! he gets electrocuted like the retarded guy in "The Green Mile". cut to everyone in the room just standing there in awe of what they had just witnessed. Turns out Egon's machine actually did something to venkmans spirit(the machine is obviously ghost related somehow) and part of the story is them trying to reunite venkmans spirit with his body(who knows if it works on not). Then they have their big baddie ghost(ala Gozer) fucking shit up in New York and Venkman is their inside guy into the ghost world(like an undercover cop..except a ghost). If your reading this GB3 guys im sure you can expand and refine this better than i did..but i think it can work purely on shock value, something Ghostbusters 2 lacked. OH and if you make the 3rd film please for the love of god try to limit the montage sequences.
-
"I've seen shit that'd turn ME white!"
-
He can still make a film based on what we fell in love with in the 80s. I think if there is a 4th film with the new cast then it's good to give it a new director with new sensibilities to a new era.
-
But if this is a stupid fucking pass the torch flick, they won't get it. Why does everything have to be about young hip kids? I know a bunch of crusty old fucking plumbers and electricians and such, what's wrong with the Ghostbusters being old pros? Besides, there would be younger employees that've been hired since the 80's, so the studio still gets its tweens. Say one of the original Busters moved behind a desk, runs the company, another one quit (or died...?), and the other two are still on the old ghostly task force, proud of the ghostbusting army they've amassed. That is a natural progression from the story of the first film. It does not have to be about the wacky generation clash between the old guys and the recruits. Fuck that. Fuck that up the ass.

it just sucks that murry says the first 40 minutes of GB is bril
by beyondthunderdome2girls1cupbillcosby
than wants to turn his character into a special effect
-
in order to keep milking the franchise. They introduce to the audience the new modern GBs,they make a lot of new movies with them, they sell toys, comics, videogames etc.Its all about the fucking money, not for the fans.
-
family/kiddie friendly than the darker, more adult original one.Personally i like both films, but if they didnt have the baby theme,GB2 would have been a lot better.
-
...and replace him with Bill Hader, Joel McHale or Jason Siegel, and you've got yourself a real reboot. If I never see that assface Rogen in anything again it will be too soon. Otherwise your list is stellar, especially the addition of the wonderful Danny Pudi.
-
or else there is no point. A younger director would just fuck things up.
-
Murray sounds like he knows exactly what was going to happen with this and no wonder he really isn't interested. I mean maybe it's Ackroyd and Raimis that need to let it go. I'd rather have no GB 3 than to have a crap GB 3. It sounds like it's going to end up crap no matter what.
-
He's what they call a working actor. According to their resumes, neither he nor Murray have had much trouble finding work over the past decade or so. If there is desperation, it's coming from the other guys.
-
this is how star trek next generation films were made
-
...I saw these strange posters in the subway here in Toronto. No lettering just a strange little casper-like ghostie thing and a "no" border around it. The computer I had at the time was used to do college papers and the internet was something that consisted of bulletin boards and not much more. I went to see this film blind. No idea. I cannot describe the surprise and delight. Point is I remember the first film for many reasons and one of them was because it was like opening a totally unexpected present that was just what I wanted. The kind even I did not know I wanted. I have been hearing about the third for years but I got tired of Bill not wanting to participate. Such a delightful jerk Bill ...and I would still go out of my way to adore him if he ever did a book signing because he is Bill. This film if it gets made will not be any sort of a surprise and due to the negotiations I have heard of for years in no way spontaneous. Sad that. I will go but ...guys ...if you cannot get it together to do it then put it to bed. Long ago I tired of these sort of hold outs and diva like behavior in other franchises. Bill ...I love ya and the rest of the cast. The info about Ivan fills out the picture about why this film has not been made but I can live without it if everyone else can.
-
or FUCK OFF!
-
after re-watching the first Ghostbusters on blu ray and playing the video game, I realized that Ghostbusters is a franchise with so much potential it's not even funny, in a perfect world there would have already been a whole series of movies
-
or a good fanedit at this point.
-
Well, The Real Ghostbusters was good, too. At least until the ABC suits got involved and Bill Murray got Lorenzo Music fired.
-
I remember going in to the movie wondering if it was going to be a cartoon, since the only thing I knew about it was the "no caspers" logo.
-
...they could take the best episodes and make movies out of them without changing much of the dialogue.
I mean, what other cartoon could possibly feature the awesomeness of an episode called "The Collect Call of Cathulhu"?! -
Fuckin' classic.
-
As kids we would go around and pretend to discover strange things. One time i was hidding behidn a car and saw some foot on the other side of the car underneath and then looked up and noe on was there. Maybe i made that up and stuck by it all those years that i believei t now but i honestly dont know if it actually happened.
-
How can he hate the idea so much if he had a blast improvising and getting into character for the video game? I think he's gonna do it. This is a ruse.
-
I want to be Mark!
I want to be Jason!
Hey guys, can I play?
Fuck, it's Royston. Fine, you can be Keeyop, you little shit... -
Imagine the chances that this movie dies not get made were a Twinkie...
-
It will be done. But do it right. Get the director from Weekend with Bernie.
-
I liked both Ghostbusters-movies, and so he seems the best choice for me.
-
The movie doesn't make sense anymore. They're too old, fat, bald and gray. I can't think of any way this wouldn't be almost exactly like Space Cowboys.
-
Evolution. So now they need a younger hipper director like McG, Bret Ratner, or Michael Bay. ... Eh.... who am I kidding.
