Fox Could Announce CONAN O’BRIEN SHOW By Its May Upfront??
I am – Hercules!!
“Fox Broadcasting is inching closer to bringing Conan O'Brien back to late night,” begins Meg James’ story in Wednesday’s Los Angeles Times. The second paragraph:
Key Fox executives, including Rupert Murdoch, are on board with the plan and would like to finalize a deal in coming weeks so they can make a splash on May 17 when the network unveils its fall lineup. Several significant issues remain and the Fox talks could fall apart, according to people close to the negotiations who asked anonymity because the discussions were meant to be private.
According to the piece Fox appears to be looking to spend less than $60 million annually to mount a new Conan show, compared to the $90 million per year earmarked for O’Brien’s version of “The Tonight Show.”
Interestingly, there’s talk of leasing the old “Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien” stage on NBC’s Universal City lot for any new show O’Brien might undertake, according to the article. NBC Universal, which spent nearly $50 million renovating the facility for the short-lived talk show, appears to be good with this idea. (Jay Leno is now hosting “The Tonight Show” from his old “Jay Leno Show” stage on another lot a short distance away.)
Under the terms of his multimillion dollar NBC settlement package, O’Brien is prohibited from launching a new TV show until September.

Amped that my city will be one of the stops. Wonder exactly what he's touring though, i'm sure it'll be fun whatever it is.
-
agreeing to get Conan in the first place!? last i heard was something about them rubbing each other's taint about a possibility down the road. now it's suddenly official?!
-
If this is true, I'll lobby the shit out of my Fox affiliate if they don't plan to carry this. Will it be an 11 pm show?
-
But the people of the internet will still love you, Mista Conan.
-
Dave can't even tackle Leno, Conan wont stand a chance. I would much rather have Kimmel and Conan on ABC. FOX doesn't have a good track record in keeping their late night shows up to snuff. Regardless, late night TV is pretty awful in general. I much prefer podcasts these days. uncensored, great hosts, great guests, FREE, and no one is afraid of telling it how it is. SO refreshing.
-
The stage Conan's Tonight Show was on was WAY too big - it sucked the fun out of the show. The close quarters helped make the Late Night show feel cheap, intimate and weird, and that's important. He was yelling at Andy over at the podium, and guests had too far to go to get from behind the curtain to the desk.
-
FOR ME TO POOP ON!!! I ked, I ked.
-
'nuff said.
-
It's a bad idea for him to go head to head against Leno AND Letterman. Let those two slog it out--Dave is my personal dog in that fight--but Dave fans are more likely to be Conan fans and vice versa than either of them are to be Leno fans. So go on an hour later, Conan! Please! That's a win/win for everyone!
-
Fox doesn't have news at 11, they have it at 10...everything I've heard is that the idea is to get Conan on at 11. People can watch him instead of local news..he would have a 30 minute jump on Leno and Dave...and at least have good ratings for that time frame...people might watch 30 minutes and then go to be instead of staying up and watching Leno.
I only ever watched 30 minutes of Dave or Leno and went to bed myself, at least before my daughter came around and I got too old and tired to make it that far. -
Or is Triumph and Masturbating Bear owned by NBC now?
-
I thought they build that effing thing for him, along with a bunch of other new buildings on that part of the lot.
-
just like they wouldn't give Letterman any of his old stuff (like Larry Bud Melman). If i was Conan, I'd introduce Masturbating Jeff Zucker on the first episode.
-
I heard that he's basically giving all the proceeds to his staff
-
Just wondering if you are going to post ratings to see like before.
-
at the screening in paramus, a lot of the cast was there, reallllllly funny stuff. "hey nice miata asshole"..."hey HEy!! fuck you its a sports car!" hhaahhahha
-
Does anyone REALLY care about this garbage?? I'm in bed by 10:05 most nights anyway and probably haven't seen any of these dopes live in over 10 years!!
-
i dont care because they all suck. and conan was only good when nothing was on and if you didnt want to watch Fox news.
-
The energy you expelled to post in a topic which you claim holds no interest whatsoever to you makes you, sir, a loser.
-
who goes to bed at 10:05 on the dot every night?
-
He is finished by 10:01, which leaves him one minute to towel off and use the toilet, 2 minutes to brush his teeth, and one minute to read his favorite Bible passage before going to sleep at 10:05.
-
But I often watch it Friday nights if I'm home, and I usually DVR it and watch if someone I like is on it. In any case, I like Conan and don't like how NBC handled things, even though the guy still got all kinds of cash for his trouble.I don't know if he's going to beat Jay or Dave if he's at Fox, but his very existence will spread out the ratings a bit. I think the drama at NBC will at least get some curious first time viewers. The only problem there is that the several month gap is going to slow down the momentum that he would've had if he showed up a few months later. But I'm sure Fox will be willing to wait it out longer than NBC was.
-
Everyone said Dave wouldn't work at 11:30, either and he's done pretty good.
-
A 30 minute jump on the competition could just do it.
-
Getting the 30-minute jump on the competition.
-
The BIG problem is Fox syndicates don't have their hands tied like the majors do. Many are doing great w/reruns of Simpsons, The Office & whatnot...they're doing well as an alternative to late-night talk (which is down huge over the 80's to begin with). They are NOT going to take a risk of ratings/ad-revenues plunging if/when they shift to trying to splinter the late-nigh gabfest world.
-
Going to see him in Seattle! If Conan goes back to the NBC lot, he and Jay could carpool! Seriously though, that could get awkward as I'm sure they bump will into each other. Hopefully they've buried any personal grudge by now.
-
Itgalloway- Andy guest-hosted Live with Regis and what's her face last week and admitted that there are hard feelings against Jay. While Conan can't say anything, Andy was very upfront about it. And I can't wait for the stage show, either. Got my tickets for Atlanta- June 14.
-
I usually watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report and then switch over to Dave or Jay depending on the guests. If Conan is on Fox the same time as the Daily Show I may never see it.

Don't those ads just go right through ya?

The mentally bankrupt tune in to Leno religiously as long as he doesn't compete with the 10 p.m. local news. He's nice and safe and predictable and therefore boring as hell, which doesn't appeal to people who like Conan.
But I checked in on Letterman for first time in several months (I usually watch Colbert on Comedy Central) and man, is he looking old and stale these days. As bad as Leno is (and that's pretty bad), I can see why he's kicking Dave's ass right now, especially now that Dave comes off like a creepy older uncle. So yeah, if Conan's on Fox at 11:35, it could be the final nail in Dave's coffin instead of Leno's.
-
Andy was on TV days ago and nobody mentioned this until now? Herc, I thought this was your beat.
-
at 8 and then turn on the latest Star Trek episode at 10.
-
Anyone who has any reason to watch Leno is really just interested in the first segment of the show, his monologue and his stupid newspaper jokes etc. If Conan started 30 minutes later than Leno he wouldn't be competing with Leno as much, because Conan's most interesting part of the show will be on at the same time as Jay's most boring part of the show.
-
Conan's competition will be Simpsons re-runs (which suck and have been done to death), the news (and I think most people would rather have something better to watch), and the Daily Show. However, many fans of the Daily Show also tend to be fans of Conan, so given the events of the previous months, they may split their time between the two based on principle alone. The earlier time slot might even woo a few old farts who have trouble staying up to 11:35 to watch Leno. By the time the Leno and Letterman shows start at 11:35, Conan will be interviewing his guests, and his interviews are pretty good, whereas Leno and Letterman's monologues tend to suck.
-
Even though Conan and Daily Show fans have a lot of overlap, The Daily Show is rerun a thousand times and is easy enough to tivo or catch the 1am rerun after Conan is long done.
-
time. but conan should have done the same thing as leno. he and his team should borrowed leno club stage design. if you look at leno's set it looks he performing stand up in a club with a band. Conan should have done that and kept his cookieness like the gaseous weenie and so on.
-
Someone asked if Herc was going to post the ratings, of course not. Those ratings were only posted as a way to take shots a Leno's primetime show. Now that he is back in his old slot and once again beating Dave the ratings haven't been posted.
-
Not only is he coming back to late night but also in the same stage and still just a few miles from Leno! Get some Coco!
-
Bout damn time. Actually, this is the best thing that could have happened to Conan. He lives for self-deprecating humor, this will sustain him for the next 30 years! I have a feeling, like an artist, he is fueled by his pain...this will keep him in the funny forever.
Stick him on at 10pm and he has a head-start of 35 minutes while Leno continues to suck it. -
Of course people care. Just because you don't, it doesn't mean no one else can or should. Who gives a shit if you don't like late-night television. No one fucking asked you.
-
Herc finally found a reason to talk about late night TV again.

This will be perfect, the best of both Conan and Leno!
by takingscorpioscalls
The first 30 minutes of Conan with his monologue and funny bits, and then when he's about to begin on his shitty interviews switch to Leno on his monologue and then cutoff a bit in before his boring bullsemen of an interview and song number begins!
-
Why is this listed as news but no news that Fringe got picked up for another season.
-
So the only time I watch the late night shows is when I'm home on a Friday night and from my limited viewing I'd say Craig Ferguson is the best of the lot.
-
I basically just watch these for the guest stars anymore. This is just overkill.
-
how early do you get up
-

I'd rather continue to have The Office rerun at 10pm Central
by mr spork
....than another network talk show. There's five other talk shows where celebrities can self-promote and get their asses kissed. Don't really need another one.
-
Rolling Stones week. Major acts performing covers. Special appearance by Jagger and Richards. Gonna be awesome. I for the life of me can not understand the hate Jimmy Fallon gets. He's a bit shaky but far better than Conan was at the start of his late night career. And he's got The Roots at his back.

Don't do it Fox. And I hate anything and everything News Corp.
by gqtaste
This guy is not cut out for that timeslot and Fox would be stupid for getting into business w/ O'Brien. If they want to get into the late night business hire a person of colar or a woman, ala the chick on E. Don't do the same ole same ole. But like I said I hate every thing Fox and co so let this make a huge mistake.
-
any longer. What an immature and hack thing to do. Talk about being a punk. Be a man and not a little baby and state the facts since you decided on being the rating police for a couple of months and after the change was made it suddenly disappears like you had some actual pull in folks tuning into to a program. You acted like a damn jr. high girl gossiping about the ugly girl in school when it was popular. Dumping on Leno simply to attempt to be on the inside of the industry. Very weak and unprofessional and shows your character.
-
These are the same cunt rags who watch Leno and think all is fine with the world and refuse to see what a back-stabber, two-faced, unfunny hack Leno really is.
-
The ratings for FOX won't be so demanding. It really stinks that Leno was given a full three years before he was crowned the King of Late Night, only because of Hugh Grant, if that hadn't happened, who knows if Leno would be on the air today.
Fuck'em. Conan will thrive on FOX and outlast both Leno and Letterman. -
Sure, Leno's gonna kill him in ratings but Fox's standards are clearly lower in the ratings department considering how many non-watch shows they run out on that network.
-
It's all but forgotten by everybody - except the teabagging trolls...
-
To qualify.
-
first one back. True story.
-
I would never defend Leno or the NBC scumbage but I'm a little disappointed in Coco for charging such extravagant prices for his live tour, way to give it back to the fans. Didn't you just get paid millions of dollars to walk away from The Tonight Show. It's not like he's touring because he needs the money, he just wants the attention.
-

All the proceeds are going to his crew if I'm not mistaken...
by redjester
And his fans aren't all cheap f*cks who expect everything to be a freebee. And he's trying to stay relevant.

I dunno that sounds sort of like he's jumping in the class with his hand up so the teacher calls on him or something.
-
Right? At least that's what my liberal friends always tell me. Don't do it Conan! Run away as fast as you can!!!!! Run to a network financially supported by George Soros or something!!!!
-
so fuck Fox in the eye. They'll just cock it up like they do everything.
-
Herc was reporting on ratings in an attempt to be an industry insider? Okay. Now my question... are you a 14-year-old girl? Because you think like one.
-
FUCK FOX
-
he drops the reports on ratings immediately after Leno takes the top again. HAHAAAHAAHAHA. I don't even like Leno, but for shame dude.
-
Fox networks always have a 10-11 news broadcast. MadTV was also an 11pm show.
-
How much were tickets? I came late and all they had left where the package deals which were crazy expensive. But I heard normal tickets were only like $35.
-
Shut about FOX. If you didn't love Obama and his Socialist ways so much, this wouldn't hurt so bad. CoCo will rule.

I don't think this is correct???

The set looks pretty much the same to me.
-
This smells of abject hypocrisy....

Leno didn't go back to his old Tonight Show set. He stayed put in his Jay Leno Show set. As for Leno, fuck him. Whatever Conan does, I'll be watching.
