‘Who The Fuck’s Stoppin’ Ya??’ HBO’s Trailer For BOARDWALK EMPIRE, From Scorsese And SOPRANOS' Winter & Buscemi!!

Published at:  Mar 16, 2010 1:43:04 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

HBO has on tap for this autumn 12 episodes of “Boardwalk Empire,” including a pilot produced and directed by Martin Scorsese from a teleplay by Terrence Winter (“The Sopranos”).

“Boardwalk,” about the rise of gambling in Atlantic City in the 1920s, is based on the book "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City" by Nelson Johnson.

“Sopranos” actor-director Steve Buscemi (“Youth In Revolt”) plays the cunning Nucky Johnson, who runs a liquor distribution ring at the onset of Prohibition. Scotland-born Kelly Macdonald (“No Country For Old Men”) plays Margaret, a brainy Irish immigrant who marries the wrong man to get out of her parents' house. Dabney Coleman (“The Guardian”) plays Johnson mentor Commodore Kaestner.

Other players include Michael K. Williams ("The Wire"), Gretchen Mol ("3:10 To Yuma"), Robert Clohessy ("New Amsterdam"), Tracy Middendorf ("MIssion: Impossible III"), Max Casella ("The Sopranos"), and Anna Katarina (2009's "Star Trek").

The pilot marks Scorsese’s first non-documentary directorial effort for television since the 1986 “Mirror Mirror” episode of “Amazing Stories,” which starred Sam Waterston.

    Scorcese, Winter and HBO!

    by forktongue

This just sounds like a perfect combination. HBO is doing their best to get people hooked between this, the Pacific, and the Game of Thrones. Should be some great TV coming for the next couple of years.

    High hopes for this.

Crazy that HBO not only has Scorsese, Winter and Buscemi doing this show about gambling, they've also got Mann, Milch and Hoffman doing another one!

A better episode of Amazing Stories, except the terrible ending. Sort of showed off a lot of camera stuff Scorsese would do later in Cape Fear.

Is there any way this could suck?

    by mrekoletmelive

Holy crap talk about a bunch of my favorite things smooshed into one project. Scorsese and Winter alone would be enough to make me watch, but when you throw in Buscemi, the super foxy Kelly Macdonald and OMAR, it becomes an absolutely cannot miss event.

So good on paper that sod's law says it turns out a mess.
Also I love The Sopranos as much as anyone but since when did that become what Buscemi is most famous for?

if they did a live action Ren and Stimpy movie, Buchemi would be a great Ren. I mean imagine that face, with a bit of motion capture animation and BINGO!

    Omar Comin'!

    by _maltheus_

This looks like it might be real good. But as much as I loved Omar, he can't really be considered the greatest character on TV because there was no real development there. His character never really evolved. Still, Michael Williams is a great actor and I'd love to see him in something else.

Just left the set of this series and you can add Chris McDonald to the cast list. Attention to even the most minute details/props that most people will not even notice.
Looks to be a sure winner all the way!

    Stephen Graham

    by true_natures_child

Nice to see this guy finally getting the recognition he deserves. Graham has spent a good few years honing his craft and is one of our best exports and thankfully has so far not gone the obvious route of playing a bad guy in a shitty action picture. Looking forward to this, should be quality gotta love HBO, wish the BBC took a few pointers from those guys.
