20th Pitches 24 To NBC!!

Sources tell Entertainment Weekly’s Mike Ausiello that the studio behind “24” is now pitching the show to NBC.

    If Season 9 Occurs...

    by jackbauer@ctu

They need to scale it waaaaay back. Make it more personal. The best seasons (with the exception of 6) were when Jack personally had something at stake. S1 had the Family Bauer kidnapped. S2 & S3 partially dealt with his disconnect from his daughter and his vengeance against Nina. S5 was when they killed all his friends and made it personal. I'm all for another season, but they need to have an endgame in sight, thus setting it up for the big screen.

    by liberty valance

I still find 24 entertaining and would watch future seasons, but even I'll admit the formula is getting stale and the twists more predictable. The show is still worth watching if only for moments like "Go ahead and blow yourself up -- the first thing I'm gonna do is make your mom come in and clean up the chunks." Time for Jack to retire or find peace in death before 24 becomes a parody of itself.

    by shermdawg

This week's episode, despite pulling a lot of shit from Raiders and The Rundown, and god knows what else, managed to be one of the most enjoyable (non-Lost) scripted hours of television I've watched in quite awhile. And regarding 24's possible move to NBC, they shouldn't do it. Just make the movies, try to repair Tony, bring in The Stoller, and call it a day. Seven seasons of the same rehashed plots is enough. Unless they radically change up the show's premise, it won't last. Also, FUCK NBC.

    by ironmuskrat

If 24 is to expensive for Fox now, how is NBC going to be able to pony up the cash to support 24's big budget? Wasn't this the network that just tried to push Leno into prime time to save money?

    by thanos0145

for ruining their show. They are that desperate to crawl to NBC to pick up their show? Eight seasons is a very good run and the formula they used has run out of gas.Ditch the formula and cut the episodes from 24 to 12 so the show can setup the movie. Maybe FOX would then change their mind.

    by jimmy_009

Do what they should have done from the beginning: make every season a completely different story, with a different cast and setting. I really liked the first season, but I didn't feel like watching the contrived premise of the same thing happening to the same people in a 24 hour period over and over. How cool would it be if in season 2 it was completely different, with nothing to do with terrorism. Every season you could get a "name" actor like Kiefer Sutherland to be the main character. THAT would be worth watching.

We're on the same page, although I wouldn't necessarily limit any given story to one season. There was some satisfaction to be had with the character arcs that multiple seasons gave us. Season 4's ending would have been a natural and good resolution to Jack Bauer in my opinion. Then they could have done the reboot with the same cast playing new characters. That said, you're righ that season 1's ending would have been perfectly acceptable as well.

The new writers have killed this show...

    by scoobysnack

Without co-creators Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran to run the show day-to-day, 24 has gone downhill fast. To be fair Surnow & Cochran were heavily involved in the abortion that was Season 6, but at least that season took some occasional risks, even if they didn't all work. This season has stunk to high heaven, and has proven that changing the location only changes the window dressing, but doesn't solve the series' central problem--no personal investment for Jack. The cliffhangers are few and far between, and forget about any surprises--they've long been forgotten. Other than canceling the series, the solution is to fire the entire writing staff, relocate the series back to L.A., bring back Surnow and Cochran to head up the writing staff, and promote the hell out of the acquisition by calling it the "final and most shocking season." Then tell the writers to go for broke. If it works, Universal has a hot property they can share with Fox when it comes to a movie. The series has no future otherwise.

    by chuck_chuckwalla

This season hasn't been as great but it still keeps me coming back. If they want to make it more interesting do some drastic changes, like next season, make Jack the president and put some new blood in CTE. A whole squad of Jack Bauers that travel all over the world. And make the villians even nastier than what we've seen.

this season so far has been pretty poor.
The main problem is that it seems like a collection of mini-stories of 2/3 episodes.

    by boynamedsue

Unless the writers of this show are willing to go in a bold new direction (other than relocating to new cities), which I suspect they are not, then renewing this show isn't worth it. Every even-numbered season is about Muslims with a nuclear weapon.......I didn't have a problem with it in Season 2 or Season 4, but it's tired and ridiculous in 6 and 8......meanwhile, any odd-numbered season is about terrorists other than Muslims with a weapon of mass destruction.......it gets OLD!! I was on this Web site four years ago PINING for another season like One, where the villains only wanted to do serious personal harm to the two main protagonists, Jack Bauer and David Palmer.......the writers are completely unwilling to go that direction again, even though it is what I and a lot of other viewers want (and I know the writers look at our comments on this site, because they have mentioned doing so on the show's DVD commentaries. They aren't paying attention).......So, just end the show already, so we can see Jack on the big screen......The producers had enough sense to hire an outsider to write the feature film, because even they are tired of formulaic storylines.

    Human Target watchable?

    by gislef_crow

Eh.The series t started strong, with a kinda super-action-vibe. See! Chance fly a jet airliner upside down! See! Chance parachute out of the back of a bullet train! See! Chance! sneak into a microwave development laboratory. There are some decent action sequences. The most recent episode was probably the weakest of the lot so far. It was basically an episode of MacGyver (and probably was). No stunt work, it could have been any schmuck action-adventure guy rescuing annoying anthropologist guy. Lame villains. Guerrero and Winston sidelined (and McBride ranting gets old fast). When you forget your high-concept (Chance is hired to step between the intended target and a bullet), you're in trouble. And the episode was written by the developer, Steinberg. This week's upcoming episode, with Chance's ex-partner and now-assassin (Lennie James, from Jericho and the new Prisoner), looks to be better.

...and to blend in scenes from the past has been the epiloque of Season 1! Never seen again, and I loved it! The producers wouldn't have to spend so much time in a pprobably very uninteresting B-Plot - as the 2 Plots are directly connected. Operation Nightfall and it's Aftermath/Fallout.

My brain is fried. Just entertain me Human Targeteirs. Also it's based on a comic book (all due respect to Gaiman) but how deep do you think it's gonna be?

@smackfu - And where's the problem with Renner?

    by wtriker1701

It'snot like I'm glancing at Academy Awards Motion Picture staring Jeremy - I'm loking for a way to break and save the 24 formula. Doesn't have to be Nightfall, but I thought it could work - with Renner (or somebody else as Kiefer stand-in). Dennis Haysbert has proven he easily can change looks (Moustache et al) to play a 15 years younger version of himself. If that could apply to Kiefer, we'd have no problem with that, would we? There wouldn't have to be a KIM/Dana/whoever subplot not really ringing but consuming half of the season. And we want Jack Bauer in action (most preferably Kiefer). That Nightfall Operation would be a half a season worth plot. The ramifications would be solved Kiefer-Style with Jack Sack!

Stories not strong enough this season

    by performingmonkey

And some of the actors are so crap, like the main guy at CTU and also Hassan. It makes you care very little about what happens. Last episode proved they CAN make us care in a classic 24-style, it was just that it was about Marcos and Jack's conversation, totally seperate from the big story as a whole. Season 5 was the last time we had chance for any real investment in the characters. OK some of season 6 too, thanks to Jack's family being involved (loved the part when Jack's father killed his brother!), BUT they totally fucked that up anyway.

    bring back Nina Meyers

    by titus05

biggest mistake the show ever did was killing off Nina Meyers...they should have just kept her in prison or maybe constantly on the run...she could have made occassional appearances every few seasons (sorta like naked lesbo Mandy)...she was better then Habib Marwan

    24 to NBC

    by superspyguy

Yes I think that 24 should end, but isn't that alwways typical of FOX shows that don't know when to end (Married with Children, American Idol). Let's see what they can do with a movie. Would it be a coda to the final episode, a set up for season nine or a whole totally different story which could be told in a two hour film? Kiefer and everybody there is pretty smart. Go out while you're on top. If not, there's always 24: The Reunion or 24: Back in Time which could tell how Jack came to join CTU.

Let Jack go silently into the good night...

    by cdubbs727

I love 24...I've been a fan since Season One and haven't missed an episode since Season 2. I think this season is just starting to gain momentum and we'll see if Monday's ep is as good as the previews are trying to convince us.

But Fox should just let the show go and NBC should let it be. This isn't a situation like Arrested Development or Firefly, with a show being cancelled before it had a chance to grow an audience or while its still in its prime. This is a show that debuted strong, earned viewers through the years, had its peak seasons and now is starting its inevitable decline. I doubt any execs thought that in 2001 "24" would be an eight season show. It's had a good run and it's time to let it fade out gracefully instead of keeping it going now that its formula is so visible.

And I would be pissed if NBC picked up 24 only to cancel Chuck. Perhaps a trade between Fox and NBC?

    by redbull_werewolf

but leave jack et al out of it, even if it's another spy series called 24, set in in a different world then CTUodds are this is what will happen as Keifer doesn't seem thrilled about coming back, it seems as if NBC does buy the show it will be a reboot anyways..or at least shift an existing character into the main character role...what about ricky ?shroder, his character was great and they just abandoned him a few seasons ago

Have this current season pull her and Freddy Prinze Jr. either lose their relationship or have her arrested or something. Build her up to want total revenge. Get away from international terror and keep it all in the US. And kill Jack at the end and end the show.

Doesn't Kiefer look way too old for that now? It's been only eight years since season one, but Kiefer looks about 15 years older (he actually had HAIR in season one, not just a bad military buzz-cut). Sorry, not gonna happen.

    by spectrebeeyatch

I like this news because even 24 at its worst is better than most stuff out there. Fuck it make 4 more seasons I'd eat it up. Fox is full of shit about ratings btw everyone I know watches but they watch on Hulu which Fox pays no mind to. Believe me season 9, 10, etc... Would be watched by many. If they do end it I say at least green light season 9, have Jack die half way through, and for real and have the rest of CTU end the story line, that would make for television history.

Let NBC give it a go

    by wayofthegun

Let NBC give it a go. 24 became less interesting when they tried to make it more ploitically correct by cutting back on the violence and torture. Bring back Jack to his edge and let him torture someone once in awhile. Jack is not a person that would be constrained by the rules. I also agree that it should be made more personal to Jack though, through some family connection or close friend. Also set the show in San Diego next season. San Diego has large military assets, it is on the border, and the second largest Muslim population in the U.S.

    How about white domestic terrorists

    by nem_wan

24 never really focused on domestic terror: abortion doctor murderers, IRS kamikazes, white supremacists, militias, federal building bombers, and NOT controlled by well-funded European masterminds but completely self-motivated. Of course, if they did this on NBC, with its (fake) liberal image, the right wing would snort derisively.

It's almost the same shit in almost every season; some middle eastern terrorists are planning to detonate a bomb, jack captures one of the coconspiritors while questioning him/her; "who are you working for.."!! then there's the infamous story arc of a CTU mole.Sorry but these guys are fresho out of ideas and need to give jack a rest permantely.23:59:00

"Watch 24 this season on NBC and we guarantee that you will witness Chloe suffer a long enduring death!!!!"

Instant ratings,,,,, of course Chloe will be kidnapped by the 6th hour and tortured and executed by the 22nd or 22rd hour. Jack will reveal while kneeling by her dead body that he always had the hots for her.

    by v'shael

are people who support abortion doctor killings or militias or white supremacist islamophobes, or people who still think Obama is a secret Muslim). I mean, that's why it's on Fox. They can't exactly have a storyline where the evil Teabaggers try to kill the good black President, now can they?

    by gislef_crow

... already appeared on the show back in season 2, when one abducted Kim. As for abortion doctor killers, maybe because they're not stealing nerve gas and nuclear bombs to destroy abortion clinics? Or are conceivably ever going to do so? 24 is about international conspiracy and intrigues for the most part, so unless someone thinks there's some international conspiracy of persons who are killing abortion doctors, or American militias...
