Hey Idolaters... Check Out the Star Wars Stormtrooper Super Shogun

Personally, I'm not a toy scholar and find the whole field a bit intimidating, but here goes with a thumbnail sketch... In the 70's Bandai's Popy subsidiary released a line of 24 inch tall PET plastic robot toys called Jumbo Machinders. Back before people were too concerned with eyes getting shot out by spring loaded missiles, these Japanese toys became known in the western hemisphere when Mattel licensed a number of these figures from classic mecha anime Great Mazinger (follow-up to the series that aired in North America as Tranzor Z), Gaiking, Getter Robo G (Gaiking and Getter Robo G made it over as part of Force Five), Daimos, Raideen, Combattler V, and in Europe Grendizer, to be released as the Shogun Warriors.
In an inspired bit of geek obsession cross-pollination, Super7 is bringing out the Star Wars Stormtrooper Super Shogun, a 24 inch tall Jumbo with free rotating wheels on the bottom of his feet, and a spring-loaded Rocket Punch firing fist. The polyethylene figure features a painted vinyl helmet, removable blaster and articulation at the neck and shoulders.
With the figure scheduled to be released in May 29th, Super7 is current taking pre-orders at STARWARS.SUPER7STORE.COM

I love that they have gone crazy-retro at the expense of kids' safety. There is something strangely cool about that.
And MisterE=Win. The change in the line had to take place because it's a giant Stormtrooper. It was a nice little switch there. The original line would not have made sense since the Stormtrooper in question is a giant among other Stormtroopers. Anyway, I thought it was pretty funny.-Cheers -

I loved the Shoguns in the late 70's. I'm fairly certain though I would have never gotten one if they cost $300. Even adjusting for inflation that's bullshit.

Yeah, he shot his fist too, which made little sense... But he had a lever on the back of his head that made a flaming tongue come out of his mouth. More to the point, he was 24" tall... Nowadays, you can't buy a Godzilla figure that's more than 8" tall it seems... and that's no Godzilla.

Yeah, Chewtoy, I had that one too. My son plays with it all the time, now, along with one I never knew the name of. Some robot looking dude with spikes on his head and throwing axes. Seeing the prices the new ones are selling for, I may need to take the old ones away from him!

And the little plane that detached from the head. It had clip ammo pods on the shoulders and legs and could hold about 20 or so plastic missiles. It was the perfect size to wreak havoc on my SW and Micronaut figs! And hotweheels/matchbox cars too!Totally. Freakin. Awesome!!!Of course, this was back in the day prior to when some retarded asshat kid shot a Cylon warrior's ship (called a "Raider" i think?) little red missile down his throat and choked to death and so the following year, the missiles were glued into place. Thanks asshole!As an aside, why are most all rules based upon what the most dipshitted variety of knuckle-dragging asshats are likely to do? Some of you kids out there won't understand this product if you weren't around for the original Shogun Warriors. Still, it's kind of cool if an unusual choice of character. Why not Darth Vader?

I coveted the Godzilla.They've actually brought back firing rockets in action figures. It's been long enough that people forgot the Galactica toy incident. There is a recent Iron Man movie figure that can fire three missiles at a time, and with great force. Expect choking troglodyte spawn story #2.

Anyway, my friend's brother had the huge Godzilla with the spring loaded fist, and we used to play with it whenever I went over there. That was a cool toy. Dunno if it was a Shogun or not.

I got the Cylon Warship that shot the missiles for Christmas, and that kid choked on them right after that. They had a recall on the toy, but luckily my Dad liked shooting it as much as I did, so we kept it. My kid plays with that one too, but I lost the missiles long ago. Probably swallowed them.
