NUMB3RS’ Number Is Up Tonight!!

Published at:  Mar 12, 2010 1:23:31 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Any huge “Numbers” fans out there want to say goodbye to one of CBS’ many procedurals?

The network ends the series' sixth season tonight after cutting back on its episode order. It isn’t yet cancelled but Rob Morrow and David Krumholtz are both shooting new pilots, so there are a lot of indications this could be it.

If “Numbers” is gone for good, the interesting thing about its cancellation is that “Numbers” almost always wins its timeslot and was actually the second highest rated show in the important 18-49 demo last Friday:

Friday 18-49 finals (repeats in gray; previous Fridays in parentheses):

The problem is Morrow and Krumholtz and the smoking hot Navi Rawat (whose character marries the Krumholtz character tonight) cost big money, and Americans have pretty much given up on watching television on Fridays and Saturdays. Which is why SNL almost always garners a higher rating than anything in primetime the nights it airs a new episode.

10 p.m. Friday. CBS.

    by soylentmean

Since you're the tv guru here I figured I'd ask on a longshot. I know the whole series is available from Amazon.UK (or at least it was), but that damn region encoding is getting in the way. Unless Blu-Ray players make region encoding null and void...

    by v'shael

Is it any wonder that Fox is moving a show like Kitchen Nightmares all OVER the fucking schedule, in an effort to find some kind of audience?

Ironically, the frequent moving will no doubt contribute to its inevitable cancellation.

    by soylentmean

it seems so, antiquated. Don't most people have DVRs or at least some form of digital access to these shows? It seems tracking what's being watched would be relatively easy, in a creepy big brother kinda way.

when I want to get myself in a bad mood
I just love how numbers guy know more about anything than anyone
Even those who have devoted their entire lives to a discipline
But he read a paper on it and has a deeper understanding
    Then there's his creepy friend
Who has experienced everything there is to experience and most profoundly and deeper than anyone else ever has
Yet hasn't got the social graces to excuse himself when numbers guy starts getting busy with his gf
And rob morrow is ludicrous in this role
And shame on Judd Hirsch for taking part in this

    by dennismm

I hate that leet-style substitution, especially when they think it's really clever. "Number3rs" is pronounced "numb-three-ers" in my world, just as "Se7en" is pronounced "se-seven-en." The show itself wasn't bad. Silly, but not bad.

seemingly final episode a look. However, I'm really looking forward to this Sunday's Amazing Race. From the commercial I saw, as I rather quickly fast-forwarded past in on my DVR, it looks like they will be doing a first on the show. Contestants have travelled all over the world but for the first time it looks to me as though they will be travelling in time. "For this leg of the race, teams must travel back to WWI and live in rat-infested trenches with mud up to their elbows. In "Futile Is as Futile Does", teams must cross No Man's Land, dodging enemy machine gun fire and artillery, careful not to drown in shell craters, navigate through barbed wire, and take the enemy position, which they will promptly relinquish back to the enemy the next day. Teams will have $3 for this leg of the race and a urine soaked rag. The last team to check-in may be shot for shell shock, I mean cowardice"

Best Procedural on television by and large over the past 6 years... relationships between friends and family dealt with realistically and the show didn't continually put women and children in harm's way set to MTV-lite music... CSI is consistently ridiculous, Criminal Minds is awful... this show was a nice diversion for many years and will be missed in our house. I love the post "Dumbest Show Ever"... really? Want to rethink that? These message boards suck.

Is actually "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." But if you have to be all picky and make it a scripted show, I'll go with "The Jeff Foxworthy Show." "Numb3rs?" Eh. By-the-numbers drama with decent leading men and SMOKING HOT EYE CANDY NAVI RAWAT.

    by sutureself

You are correct. That is a Mauser with a 98 action, apparently either a Standard Modell (yes, it's spelled with two Ls) or an M48 Yugo. The 03-A3 was the U.S. bolt-action rifle of WWII, a simplified version but with better sights of the 1903 Springfield of WWI, which itself was a derivative of the Mauser design.

For the rest of you, please resume trashing procedurals and drooling over hot chicks.

With due respect, it is a Mauser. The 1903 and the 03-A3 have a knobbed cocking piece and a magazine cut-off, both of which are absent in the rifle pictured. The I-shaped front band is characteristic of the 98. The trigger guard of the 03-A3 is stamped. The Mauser's is machined. The rear sight of the 1903 is not surrounded by wood, as is that of the Mauser in the photo and the rear sight of the 03-A3 is located on the receiver bridge. There are several other characteristic features of each rifle I could point out to underscore the differences between them, but the identification is already definitive. I do this stuff for a living. I'm a Federally licensed firearms dealer and I have four 1903s in my store (three Springfield Armory and one Rock Island Armory) and one 03-A3 (a Remington.) I also have both an 03-A3 (Remington) and a K98k Mauser ("ar" marked Berlin manufacture with waffenampt intact) in my personal collection. I sold a Standard Modell just last week and an M48 about a month ago. Here is a link to a photograph I personally took for my store's website: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v137/SutureSelf/AGYG/RockIsland1903.jpg You will note the differences between this rifle and the Mauser in the photo. Please review your references and thank you for the civility of your reply.
