Learn Which FIREFLY Veteran Plays Dennis Becker In NBC’s New THE ROCKFORD FILES Pilot!! Hint: Not Summer Glau!!

Published at:  Mar 11, 2010 5:41:59 PM CST

I am – Hercules

Alan Tudyk (“Dodgeball,” “I, Robot,” “Serenity,” “Knocked Up,” “3:10 To Yuma,” “V,” “Dollhouse”) will play Jim Rockford’s pal, LAPD sergeant Dennis Becker, in the “Rockford Files” pilot overseen by “House” creator David Shore. Joe Santos played Becker in the original.

Dermot Mulroney (“Zodiac,” “Burn After Reading”) will play the titular ex-con private investigator. Still to be cast are Jim’s dad Rocky and ne’er-do-well associate Angel Martin.

Seriously, we need more Summer Glau on TV

    by tall_boy66

How has this not happened yet? I'm surprised even a CW cheapie like Smallville or Supernatural hasn't picked her up just for the name.

You mean the Direct TV commercial guy?

    by frodofraggins

It's sad that more people recognize him from that bank robbery commercial than anything else.
He's always good though and his death in serenity was rather pointless.

    by oisin5199

Alan Tudyk is awesome in anything, especially if he gets to mix the serious with the funny (sorry, V!). Used to watch Rockford Files a little with my parents as a kid, wasn't really interested in a remake. Now I'm sold. Then just do a Castle/Chuck/Rockford Files crossover, and it'd be an awesome reunion of the Firefly alpha males!

Please no more Reboots, remakes, and reimagine. Whilst some are worthwhile like BSG and 'V'.
Why not come up with something original for creative sake! Do we need to see everything being remade? Please come up with something original, something refreshing, something not done before. That is creative concepts and original ideas. Please.

Nope, you're not the only one. Mark my words, it's the mistake that will kill the show. I hate to be pessimistic, and I hope I'm wrong, but Tudyk is far more interesting than ChickFlick Mulroney. IMHO. Prove me wrong, RomCom Mulroney!!

yup, Tudyk should be Rockford, but...

    by chromedome

...there should NOT BE ANY FRAKKIN REMAKE OF ROCKFORD AT ALL.NBC is really made up of some lame, lazy ass people to be putting Leno "back" and then remaking stuff instead of CREATING SOMETHING ORIGINAL.

sinks or swims on the casting of Angel

    by rkdn

The original series had pitch-perfect casting and so far, this new version is a complete yawner.
They need to knock this out of the park with the Angel Martin part. Is it too much to hope for Sam Rockwell?

also, we need a new Magnum PI instead of this

    by rkdn

The original Rockford Files still holds up well. If you simply MUST redo a classic TV detective drama, how about Magnum PI or Simon & Simon?
Just leave Riptide alone. There is only one Roboz.

His character never should have been killed off in Serenity. I loved his character in the Firefly series/Serenity movie. He s a good actor who should get more roles. Does this mean his role on V is coming to an end? Or is that series already being canceled before new episodes begin to air?

*LOL* The other guy in that commercial was in The West Wing and is now in Psych. IMO DirectTV got some good actors for that commercial.
But yeah, Alan Tudyk = good. Did you see him in Dollhouse? Freakin' awesome. He was also in the original Death at a Funeral (it's sad that I ALREADY have to qualify it with "original" since it only came out a few years ago) and rocked that one as well.

Tremendous Candidates for The Role of Rocky

    by lowell

So, who could play the senior Mr. Rockford? Judd Hirsch is looking for work since Numb3rs folded. Ditto Ted Levine (Stottlemeyer on Monk). If Parenthood gets an early cancellation, Craig T. Nelson would be terrific, as would Dabney Coleman, Seymour Cassell or Wilford Brimley. Christopher Lloyd or Tom Selleck (who played Lance White on a couple of episodes of the original series) would each bring an interesting dimension to the role. Or how about Burt Reynolds? The possibilities are endless.
