Ollie's WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEP is now headed to September...

Published at:  Mar 10, 2010 6:34:34 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here - sorry these stories weren't posted earlier, but Yoko had grabbed me to take her shopping, and I've spent way way waaaaay too much time in places like XXI FOREVER (which had a stunningly beautiful check out lady that could work in film, the camera would worship her), the GAP, NORDSTROMS, etc... My brain is a tad mushy - but hey, I got a killer ridiculous hat by Robert Graham to wear throughout SXSW... so it is all good.

Speaking of Film Festivals - fucking CANNES is causing Fox to move Oliver Stone's WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS to move from right around the corner in April - to fucking September 24th. That said - it makes sense. If the film is fucking tremendous, and all reports I've heard seems to indicate that the film could be brilliant (yes, with Shia, who rules btw) - a strong performance at CANNES - which very rarely is a sure bet for good buzz - as the critics largely seem to be stuffy and way too serious - but if it were to blow folks away - this would be the PULP FICTION release scheme.

Well - that's nice and all - but I was so looking forward to seeing this BEFORE the Summer hit, not after it is over. Que sera sera...

Makes sense to me. Douglas (and Gekko in particular) is bankable worldwide. Why not use Cannes to springboard the return of that character? Besides, it's the kind of film that will make perfect post-summer blockbuster tonic.

...for a sequel. Even with the state of our economy and the dirtiness of those who ran it into the ground. For some reason, Wall Street 2, just comes off cheesy to me. And as I've stated many times before, zero love for Shia "my hair never moves" LaBouf. It's going to be very hard for me to ever spend money beyond my cable bill for this one.

Harry, I agree, Shia is actually a good actor.

    by dr sauch

The fatties on this forum hate him because he is "charismatic" and "personable," which around here are wholly unwelcome traits. Also, he's popular, and this forum is mostly populated by "I hate everything that anyone else likes, because I'm so smart" types. Read Voltaire.

    by jaka

    by greatgonzo

Shia's best performance was in Even Stevens for Disney Channel. It's all been downhill from there.

Regardless, doesn't this flick reek of desperation from Douglas and Stone: "We're not relevant anymore! How can we cash in on our former glory?!?!?" I have no interest.

    by aka_gern_blanston

I was really looking forward to this film, but I can understand the reasons for the wait. Release it in April and, come awards season, most have forgotten about it. Wait til September and, if the film holds up, kudos, accolades, 40 days and 40 nights of little golden statues of varying shapes and sizes. Makes perfect sense, just sucks is all.
    ---
As for Shia, I don't think he's a BAD actor, just a young one that has been in some bad films that made him a lot of money. Yes he was in the two Transformers bastardizations, and Indy 4, but all three of those films had multiple MULTIPLE problems that cannot be laid at the feet of one single solitary person. I will say he needs to lay off the rapid-fire use of the word "No". But the trailers for Money Never Sleeps look good to me and I'll give it a chance.

    by i am_notreal

Although I still don't like the giant mobile phone joke in the trailer. To my thinking, a much better--and subtler--take on that would've been to have someone hand Gordon an iPhone or whatever at some point early in the movie, and have him look at it with a "what the hell is this?" expression on his face. But then again, subtlety isn't exactly Oliver Stone's forte. The man has made some great films and I'm cautiously quite optimistic about this one.
