Behold...Disney World's TRON-O-RAIL!!
Merrick here...
A few weeks ago, we revealed that Disney parks would soon be unveiling "TRON-O-RAILS". These would be the standard park monorails, temporarily re-skinned with new TRON LEGACY themes (details HERE).
While the trustworthiness of our source was never in doubt, we now have visual conformation that this is happening...at Disney World at least...via THIS posting at the Disney Parks website .
And, for the many readers who were wondering, here's what a TRON-O-RAIL looks like! You can find more details about this refit, as well as an embiggenable versions of the pics below, by clicking the link above.

Meanwhile, I don't seem to be able to stop watching the TRON LEGACY trailer which debuted last weekend/earlier this week (HERE). At first I thought I was alone in this dysfunction - 'twas a pitiful and secret shame I would not speak of openly. But, this morning, a friend sent me an e-mail from England. The subject line of his message?: "I'm obsessed with the Tron trailer" . Turns out, he's suffering like I am. And when you're us...December is so very, very, very, very far away. I hadn't told him about my addiction before his note, which means he developed the same TRON Dependence (perhaps it's called Chronic TRONitis?) under completely independent conditions and circumstances - which points towards an outbreak. I suspect there may be others out there who are suffering like we are - maybe we should all start a support group on Facebook or something.
ME: "Hello, I'm Merrick. I'm addicted to TRON."
GROUP: "Hiiiiiiii, Merrick!"

...the light-bike will be traveling backwards?
-
You're not alone I've watched the trailer at least 10 times in the past two days. Dark Knight and a few other selects aside it's the first sequel in recent memory whose trailer REALLY gave me chills. It's how I should have felt with Phantom Menace and Crystal Skull.
-
in thinking it looks visually dynamic but totally empty? I'm hoping there's something else to it than pretty, pretty light cycles and an awesome soundtrack. Though that may be enough to get me in the theater.
-
I came in thinking it had something to do with Ronald McDonald. Synergy taken to the NEXT STEP!
-
I keep flashing back to sitting on my living room floor and reading/listening to the old school Cassette and Book combo along with Black Hole. The Star Wars series was easily my favorite at the time, but somehow Tron persists and has dug its way in.
-
Yeah. True story.
-
Lots of glitching on the site today. Believe it's fixed now. Lemme know if you see differently.
-
To be fair I would totally ride a monorail with a massive Ron Swanson (Parks and Rec) mustache on the front and a giant glass of scotch on the top.
-
Great, now my joke makes no sense. Thanks.
-
Can't stop watching it. It's hypnotic.
-
What if other headlines were dropping important letters? The obituary to Corey Haim could have read "Corey Ham 1971-2010". Boy, THAT would have created a shitstorm in the TBs, I gar-un-tee.
-
There seems to be a weight and almost grim quality to it that keeps drawing me in. It feels like the sequel has grown up in the same fashion the people who are fond of the first have. Their world has a feeling of being exposed to and effected by the radical changes that have occurred since 1982. The look alone on Clu2's face as he exits that lift says ALOT.
Corey Ham a talent gone too soon. He was BORN to play Peter Porker in that Spider-Ham reboot that's coming up. -
I want to see if she can concentrate on being a train conductor with my wang pointed at her.
-
that pic is faker than pam andersons boobs. hey disney, let me know when someone actually does some work on this besides photoshopping some pics for you.
-
Thought at first the mouse was not being so outspoken about the Tron sequel, but that is some bucks they just spent and it's still 9 months out.
-
....weird. And I just totally posted this same thing in the wrong thread... I think the one announcing Christian Bale was cast as Batman. lol Anyway, I'm not going to watch the trailer. I was convinced this was going to be theater worthy long ago. I'll be going on opening weekend and I don't want to know/see anymore before then.

Tronorail!
What'd I say?
Tronorail!
What's it called?
Tronorail!
That's right! Tronorail!
[crowd chants `Tronorail' softly and rhythmically]
I hear those things are awfully loud...
It glides as softly as a cloud.
Is there a chance the track could bend?
Not on your life, my red-haired friend.
What about us brain-dead slobs?
You'll be given cushy jobs.
Were you sent here by the devil?
No, good sir, I'm on the level.
The ring came off my pudding can.
Take my pen knife, my good man.
I swear it's AICN's only choice...
Throw up your hands and raise your voice!
Tronorail!
What's it called?
Tronorail!
Once again...
Tronorail!
But Main Street's still all cracked and broken...
Sorry, Mom, the mob has spoken!
Tronorail!
Tronorail!
Tronorail!
[big finish]
Tronorail!

It's nice to see Disney finally embracing their bastard franchis
by orionsangels
I remember way back when Disney ignored TRON and wanted to forget it even existed. They barely wanted to even release TRON on DVD. Eventually releasing a bare bones version. Then finally for the 20th Anniversary we got a special edition DVD, but that was probably around the time Disney greenlit TRON 2. When they saw that TRON still had an audience and money was to be made and like a mother who had abandon her child and then took them back. Disney has finally embraced TRON as one of it's own.
-
What exactly were you expecting???
-
the fucking enormous synth booms and then the glitching break down at the end as the title flickers to life.
the perfect film/composer match-up..?
having seen daft punk live i can imagine how fucking great its going to sound in the cinema! -

If they find me glowing blue and holding a frisbee--
by the reluctant austinite
please tell them I overdosed on TRON. I can't watch that trailer enough. I need more footage. Even the Tron-O-Rail wasn't enough for today. Pretty soon I'll be on the street corner looking for the guy in the "Flynn Lives" t-shirt in the hopes that if I show up early enough at some mysterious location they'll show me 30 seconds of Bruce Boxleitner playing racketball in a Tron headband. Unlike most of you, I dread December, when I'll able to watch TRON as much as I want in 3-D, which will inevitably led to a TRON binge that could last for weeks. Hopefully, it'll suck as bad as "The Phantom Menace" and I'll be able to go TRON cold turkey.
-
i hope they actually make a real tron ride
with what they are doing with video projection and sound incorporated into rides?
wow
that world is perfect to exploit for theme park ride design
the riders would get digitized first
so cool -
Now THAT'S dedicated marketing.
-
will they have shit at least as cool as the Tron stuff on the People Mover. That was one of my favorite things to see at Disneyland when I was a kid. That and the incredible shrinking machine (fuck I wish that was still there so my kids could experience how cool that was).
I hope they do a lot cooler things for Tron at Disneyland then just a billboard. -
and I too am a Tronaholic. I can't stop watching the trailer either!
-
A Christmas Story Train??? God fucking can't believe I waited so long to get in that fucking thing. Ok its was semi cool.
-
...with eyeball fucking 3D and ass shaking seat movement through a Tron like environment I might start going to Disney theme parks again.
-
I've also watched the trailer way to many times for my own good and it's given me a hard-on that will probably last til the movie premieres. The weird thing is it glows like a light-stick. So that's kinda cool!
-
Merrick, you must follow with the 12 steps until TRON actually arrives!

STEP 1: Admit that you have a problem... WAITING FOR TRON!!!
by yotzvonfrelnik
-
What they needed to do was not take the existing monorails and paint them and slap a lightcyle on the side; They needed to actually mkae the monorail look like something that would come from the tron world, replete withe neon exterior lighting. It should look like how you'd get around inside the TRON world, not like I took my car and painted a lightcycle on it.
-
I'm tapped out. And at work.
-
lotta healing. *sniff*
-
That is why Tron2 will fail.

the Tron trailer sorta' has the same feel as that Star Trek
by future help
trailer from last year. Both REAL COOL. Anyways, really looking forward to newTRON. PLus, speaking of obsesion of Tron trailer...check out this short done from the newTron director. It too is awesome and you can tell we are in good hands.....http://www.josephkosinski.com/main.html AND then check out his Nike ad.
-
I refuse to admit that I have a problem.
-
I refuse to admit that my code has any bugs.
-
from the LIGHTcycles....but hey, I still can not wait to see this DaftTRONpunK badboy.
-
I too am addicted to watching the trailer, much like I was with the final Star Trek trailer last year which also gave me the chills. Between the Tron trailer and the Iron Man 2 one it's been a sweet week for movie geeks.
-
I have even posted the link on various blogs that I visit to get others addicted.
-
I actually really liked that Christmas Carol touring train thing when it came to Seattle. Of course it helped that it was the 4th of July and it was nearly empty so I could just hop right in without a wait. Made for a weird experience though with 90 degree heat, fake snow, and Christmas carolers outside who must have been roasting in those costumes.
-
lightning could be static electricity, or the representation thereof. CONAN - nice poem, sorry about the show
-
your completely right. The trailer is pretty, but that's about it. The lead actor looks pretty lame, as do a lot of other characters. And the bodies of the people in the computer look way too real. I seriously don't understand people on this site...these are the same people who will knock Avatar for having it's strengths in the visual department, then clamor over a Tron movie like it's gonna be anything different. Please!
And LOL, a glitch? Nice try Merrick. We all know it was a typo you were too lazy to double-check. -
not these photoshopped versions.
-
How the fuck is this a worthy article? Theres so much cool shit AICN isn't posting, but they think we give a shit about a monorail at Disney painted with TRON designs? Seriously?
-
The Thin White Duke guy looked stupid too. Other than that, it was pretty cool. I'll wait for the actual trailer before I get too excited.
-
a true classic of computing philosophy. Any A.I. sophisticated enough to be self-aware is capable of experiencing storms (chaotic phenomena). In fact, you don't even need silicon computers; 'The Difference Engine' explained how to do this with silk cards and metal gears. But sorry guys, silicon will never achieve the complexity of Tron world; that will take DNA-based nanotechnology, and probably quantum-tunnelling on top of that.
-
Hmmm. I guess if would rather seek escapism in the world of Tron than Pandora. Lightcycles beat preeeety flowers and waterfalls any day. And I'd rather bone Olivia Wilde than a 7 ft blue woman cat!
-
As in, he's going to make a bunch of kick-ass genre films and we will all love him for it.
-
Tron starred a now Oscar winning actor and multiple nominee who turned in a performance that resonated with alot of us who grew up in the 80's. The visuals look slick but those aren't the things that wowed me in the trailer. Where's Flynn, the return of the Boxleitner, Bridges playing a de-aged evil AI doppelganger in addition to an actual aged Flynn. The new kid I suppose I could take or leave. This I'm invested in and it will strike a chord. Not saying thats true of everyone.
Avatar bored me to tears. For me Cameron lost all of his juice after T2, that was his last gasp of air before disappearing under the ocean to wank around after Titanic. After seeing Avatar I feel even more comfortable writing it off as a pretty looking piece of fluff about blue cats that speak klingon and a tired us against them Ewok vs. Empire style retread story. -
TO the mon0rail here in Florida. How is this cool? It's like saying "COOL, giant billboard promoting the film!" Also, is this NOT the same mono-rail that killed 2 people here in Florida in 2009? Me thinks so.GREAT PUBLICITY!!!
-
I feel enthusiasm and anticipation for memristor products. I wonder how that'll go? I feel enthusiasm and anticipation for TRON 2, but I am more hopeful about memristors.
-
I would have been deeply disappointed if no one quoted the Simpsons.
-
Some interactive 3D thing involving lightcycles...
-
...Merrick - confronting the problem is the first step. Best of luck. :-D
-
WTH is going on? Maybe Olivia Wilde in repose on the couch? The visual slickness of the Tron world? Don't know, but me likey.
-
In the beginning was a world,
Man said 'Let there be more light'.All your techno-babe fantasies derive from this... -
i cant seem to stop... i thought i got a 2nd monitor to speed up my productivity... turns out it was just i could watch the tron trailer all day long.
-
Now there is 9 months of hype and anticipation which will no doubt lead to a lacklustre movie.
-

Yeah, I've been watching it over and over and over as well.
by royston lodge
I'm down with the sickness.
-
I watched it over and over and over again as well.
I hope that's not a prophesy. -
It's the "electronic world". Tron 1 had mountains, pools and clouds. No-one bitched then. Give 'em a break, FFS.
-
almost half of them are upset by this 'ruining' the face of the monorail. im guessing a good number of people with accounts on the disney themepark page are probably in the 50+ age bracket though, so it sucks that its not pictures of disney princesses.
-
"That's Tron. He fights for the users".
-
Did you fuckers even LOOK at the storm? The lighning comes out in a GRID, man! That's not just a regular storm, that's a fucking TRON storm.
Plus the smoke and dust looks pretty digital too to the trained eye. I know a lot of people here don't have one though. -
that this would have been much cooler if the 'tron-i-fied' the monorail (add blue neon around the edges.. that about all they would have needed to do.)instead of just wrapping it.
-
Any talented folks photoshop a Cock-O-Rail yet? or a Haim train?
-
...'cause it's a great big beautiful tomorrow...
-
What, you expect them to build a whole new monorail that looks like a lightcycle?
-
Why is Will Farrell's Mugatu from Zoolander playing air guitar on a hurley-stick? Doesn't he seem a little out of place with the rest of the trailer?
-
So, until we can hook up some of you more imaginative people to a render farm, we'll have to do with what we got... and it looks pretty damn promising to me. Heck they even got two of the principals back, albeit in probably minor roles. I dig the look. Sure, their suits could be more interactive, "alive", but perhaps it would have just read as too visually busey.
-
... I'll have a trontini straight up with an olive.
-
The other white meat.
-
EVEN I AM ADDICTED TO MYSELF
end of line....... -
That's cool, it seems like Tron is more your thing then a CGI alien-human war movie. But you know, even if you don't like Cameron's last 3 efforts, a whole shitload of people do, and it's for reasons that are very valid. I don't really get the Ewok vs. Empire comparison, as there is so much going on in Avatar that has nothing to do with anything from that battle, and that's just generically seeing it as bad guys vs. nature based good guys. Even to compare the humans in Avatar to the Empire is absurd and shows a lack of comprehension. But Avatar like Tron, are not intended to redefine narrative filmmaking, even though in ways they have. For the original Tron to take place in a computer created world was something never done. Just like Avatar focusing on CGI aliens getting romantic as main characters in a live-action film had never been done. And as an unparalleled cinematic experience meant for 10yr olds as much as 50 year olds, having a more complex plot would have been the death kiss. Brilliant move if you ask me.

It's WALT Disney World, not Disney World. Christ.
-
We only went to the Magic Kingdom, and I didn't see any monorails that had special Tron stuff on it... probably outside of the demographic for Magic Kingdom. I can't wait for the movie. Might be old news but the teaser traier is finally up in glorious quicktime...
http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/disney/tronlegacy/
( mind the gap )
-
The original tron was denied an Oscar nomination for "special effects" because at the time, computer graphics were considered to be in the "animation" category.
-
This reminds me of Mad Max 2 but with HD Tron visuals. I'm in love too.
-
TRON was one of the first VHS tapes I remember buying with my parents, back in 84 I think. Watched the HD version on HDNet the other night and I'm excited all over again! Bring it on!!!
-
i wasn't even that excited for this movie before. I enjoy Tron, but I never took it very seriously. I liked it more in a silly way, but this looks so damn epic and cool! The trailer hits all the right notes!
-
Ever since the trailer came out, I've watched it once in the morning before heading to work, and once when I get back home from work. I think this is the first time in a very long while that I've been so captivated by just a simple trailer. My gosh, this movie can't come soon enough.
-
Is the actual character TRON from the first film actually IN this sequel? Will a CGI youthified Boxleitner show up at some point much the same way they did with Bridges? Perhaps as a surprise cameo or a plot point they've managed to keep under wraps.
-
I still dont have it 1080p. I have the teaser. man this shit is fucking pissing me off. I wants it bad. forever.....

dark ride out of this... although I'm not sure how you'd do it... I'm just tired of parks taking the easy 3D route, especially when it costs close to $100 to get into those parks and I can see the same shit now at the local theater. Even the new King Kong is just screens. Have some balls and pull an Everest, Twilight Zone, or at least combine the screens and 3D with actual sets, movement, etc.
-
"Brilliant"? "Unparalleled?" You're saying Avatar all at once "has a lot more going on" but if it were complex you'd lose people? Native vs High tech battle aside there isnt really that much going on beyond very very surface obvious Humans are destroying the earth live a harmonious existence with ALL nature, our differences are our strengths, freshman year of college "I smoked my first doobie" tripe.
As far as being accessible to everyone from 10 year olds to 50 year olds I'm not buying it and content "art" shouldn't be aimed to catch as broad an audience as possible. When I was ten I had already seen and digested Alien, Blade Runner, Star Wars (easy to pick on now but draws its lifes blood from much richer philosophy than Avatar), Dune, Repo Man. We don't challenge ourselves or youth any longer. Wall E conveyed more substance and enjoyment with a silent plucky Buster Keatonesque robot and some metallic fingers dragging across star dust.
As far as my comprehension is concerned what was I missing? Imperialism is explored, the relationship between man and nature, cultural understanding, the god damn 9/11 tree is one of the most heavy handed things I've seen in recent memory. All tried and true themes explored in much better earlier works. If people dig Avatar as an entertainment experience fine, but it's not the second coming and it sure as hell isn't revolutionary in any way other than the fact that it's technological leaps may bring me a superior story telling format in the future. Off to watch Big Fan. -
Yep, there's something about the trailer that makes me watch it again and again. There's just a vibe there that I wasn't expecting and is really working for me.
LOVE the 2001 feeling of the old couch set in with all the stark lines and flat, futuristic shapes.
But I have to watch out -- I studied TPM trailer like it was the Dead Sea Scrolls, and look where that got me.
Also -- UltraTron, you seemed to have calmed down a bit, which is good. But the video games in the arcade are hardly an epic fail. The narration says Flynn disappeared 20 years ago, which was, um, 1990, so he could have anything from 80s in his arcade.
Gotta go watch the trailer again! -
Mar 11, 2010 12:34:51 AM CST
Mind blown. Just saw pacman video game in Tron!
by allpowerfulwizardofoz
After all these years of it being one of my most favorite movies I never saw it or heard it til now!
HO LEE ****!
During the scene when Flynn escapes after the light cycle and is being chased it cuts to the bridge. Sark is looking at a diagram. In the right corner of the diagram is the pacman grid with dots and pacman plus the noise of the game itself as he gobbles dots and then you hear the death music of pacman when the screen cuts again! -
Seriously?
-
It's the music that makes it outstanding.
-
Great call. I remember being in a Disney store and seeing some Tron stuff and then realized it was in the 90% off bin and probably original stock from the 80s.
-
Did you spot Mickey Mouse yet? He's in there too (in the Solar Sailer sequence...)
-
Wow! It's so cool to see so many other Trontrailer-dependent people!
I don't know why so many others are so addicted to the trailer, but I think I know why I am.
As someone with an extremely mild autistic and OCD'ish mind..., that trailer brings me to total calmness.
It's the beauty of it..., the symmetry, the perfection, the shine, the cleanliness..., it's the sound, that's building up so perfectly, calming down again and then exploding, it's the experimentalness of the beat (I'm from Holland, so I'm very much into Hardcore House music).
It just brings my whole mind to a most relaxing state. And that's why I have watched this sucker about 400 times already.
Beat that! 400 and counting. Hmmm..., perhaps its my OCD aswell! Let's call it OTD.
Obsesive Tron Disorder. Thanks alot Kosinski. No, I mean it, thanks a lot. I'm finally calm now.
S. -
There was nothing TRON related there, and the monorail still had the celebration theme on it. Perhaps this will take effect during summer?
-
Mono....do'h!
-
On Comedy Central. If you're not interested in one of the funniest things on tv, at least look for his "Tron-Guy web redemption" clip online.
-
Or Troncapades...I can't remember how they sold it. It was a Tron themed ice capades. They lined the entire ice rink with black lights and had the skaters in the Tron suits playing frisbee and whatnot. I LOVED it when I was a kid. I still have the souvenir inflatable Tron frisbee packed away someplace.
-
TRON-COASTER...
I'm seeing high speed carriages designed to look like light cycles...
I'm seeing really sharp almost 90 degree bends...
I'm seeing 'duelling coasters' with two or even three interweaving coaster tracks seemingly blocking each other off...
HOLY FUCK MY VISION IS AWESOME!!
BUILD IT DISNEY! I WON'T CHARGE ROYALTIES! JUST GIMME FIRST RIDE!!! -
That shit is AWESOME. But it really needed 3D - and circular polarized glasses, not that paper shit they give us on the T2 show.
-
The queue can start out explaining computer concepts and the advancement of computer technology over the years, with a display for example of magnetic core memory. People can be 'digitized' in groups and transferred to a second part of the queue like the stretching room in the Haunted Mansion. Then we can have black lights or at least, a queue with glowing circuitry on the walls and stuff. For the ride itself, I'm not sure. I'd like expansive-looking areas, so maybe 3D would work, but I'd definitely want movement of the guests in a vehicle. I don't think I'd like a flight simulator experience for this.
-
You wrote an article about a paint job on a train? WTF?
-
What the fuck is wrong with you, Merrick?
-
Dec. is a long time to wait! As for the continuing adventures of the Avatar hater trolls, I think most will agree that the most epic fail in the history of haters are the Avatar haters. You just continue to make yourself look like the dumbass of the decade for trying to hate on James Cameron and Avatar...it's the biggest blockbuster of all-time and a critical success as well, it's ok not to like it, but quit trying to argue a case that the jury came back with a decision on a month ago...it's over.
-
arjaybee you've just called people who don't necessarily appreciate Avatar "dumb asses" and used the terms "epic fail" and "haters. You sound like some kid in a dragon t-shirt who watches wrestling at least once a week.
This is a movie website, its not trolling it's expressing an opinion. Avatar was an ENJOYABLE movie but not the mind blowing earth shattering experience some make it out to be. It's box office returns don't change the fact that it's a very typical and sort of stale story wrapped up in a beautiful technologically ground breaking package. As far as being a critical success, most critics worth their salt said A+ spectacle/fun C- story/originality. That's the general critical consensus and its supported by the fact that a much quieter work like Hurt Locker took home the major awards. The biggest critical snub IMAGINABLE is that Avatar didn't win best picture and in my opinion wouldn't have even been included in the running if they hadn't expanded the field to 10 pictures.
I can name at least five movies I've seen in the last five years that are much more effective films that stayed with me LONG after the amusement park fun of AVATAR did. None of this comes from an "I want to hate what everyone likes" mind set. I'd sit down in front of District 9, Let the Right One In, Abrams Star Trek, The Dark Knight, or A history of Violence before I ever gave Avatar a second thought. -
I said Avatar hater trolls (like yourself) are dumb asses (which you are), the T-shirt is a serpent and its MMA dumbass.
I said it's ok not to like Avatar, but again, dumbass, why do you keep bringing up how much you don't like it...again the verdict is in on Avatar... everything else is sour grapes with the haters. You hated it before you saw it, after you saw it and like Star Wars it is a cultural phenom whether you think its relevent or not.
None of the movies you listed are better than Avatar...NONE OF THEM! The Hurt Locker is good but Avatar is great and most people have sat down (and continue to sit down) in front of Avatar to the tune of $2 Billion worldwide so most people didn't give the movies you listed a first thought, let alone a second, third, fourth etc.
