Wanna see a killer bizarre mannequin film noir movie in Austin tonight?

Published at:  Mar 06, 2010 1:56:18 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... Tonight, at the Alamo Village, is going to be two showings of one of the strangest movies you'll ever have the likelihood of ever seeing, if you show up that is.

The movie is titled EVE'S NECKLACE and is directed by a fella by the name of Daniel Erickson - and it couldn't be any more mondo bizarro if it tried. The movie is made exclusively with Mannequins - and it works. About 3 months or so ago, I had the pleasure of seeing this very different film. Essentially, it is a thriller filled with sexual undertones and overtones. It is violent, in so far as Mannequins can be violent, and they can. It's oddly fetishistically sexual in many ways - but it is a fascinating experiment gone right.

If you go to TheMannequinMovie.com you can pick up tickets for tonight. I'll be introducing the movie, just because... well, I'm partial to it. The movie isn't really like anything I can point to. And I think you'll agree. But if you're in the mood for some very interesting oddness tonight, click on that link and I'll see you tonight.

Freakin' cool! It reminds me of a Paul Verhoeven thriller. Artificial and exploitational because of it. Can't wait to check this out.

    Nice and entertaining trailer...

    by moosemalloy

... but is it time we start to use the term "Video" as opposed to "Movie" or "Film" so that there is some sort of differentiation between something that is shot on film stock as opposed to being shot with any kind of video camera? Whether it's on mini DV or with the latest HD pro-sumer model, it's still video and has nowhere the look of film. I guess most people don't care either way.

    The Tron trailer

    by lotharius3rd1118

is pretty cool. I would've liked to have seen more of Jeff Bridges than just his eyes opening and there was only one shot of the lightbikes that I can recall. However, the look of the movie, the music, and that chick in a tight white outfit all make the trailer a winner.

Taken from an early Dr Who episode?

    by umbral_shadow_

I seem to recall a vintage Dr Who ep of mannequins coming to life. I'm willing to bet five bucks that the director has seen it. I've always found mannequins creepy. I've never had a problem with clowns, but mannys just creep me out.

    by mistere

The Autons also showed up in the first episode of the relaunched 2005 Doctor Who series. Shop mannequins were coming to life and were being controlled by a Nestene Consciousness (the same driving force behind the Autons from the old DW episodes).

...is also attached to 3d screenings of Avatar now, saw it a couple days ago. Imagery is great, but I'm actually excited for the Daft Punk score, the subtle music in the trailer was fucking great, created a really cool vibe through the whole thing.

    EVE'S NECKLACE-THE MANNEQUIN MOVIE

    by funnybones

From a producer of the film: Thank you very much Harry for your generous help and wonderful introduction Saturday night. As to the above comments, thanks for the witty feedback and even the would-be "witty" feedback. For a true sample of the film's style and execution please go to link in Harry's statement at the top. This micro-budget movie was shot in Austin, Texas last year. The entire film cast is life-sized mannequins that never transform into or from humans; the treatment is nothing like the current godawful Old Navy spots (somehow these people managed to make Kristen Chinoweth look bad a few years back, and that is impossible!) - besides, our movie was shot in black and white (Canon XL2 widescreen at 24 fps) over a year ago; we still have not seen the Dr. Who or Futton episodes but look forward to doing so. Note that the voice talent for the project includes our friend, the great character actor John Hawkes (LOST season 6, DEADWOOD, WINTER'S BONE, X-FILES, BUFFY...; go to imdb for a killer list of credits.) Want to see EVE'S NECKLACE? The film's immediate schedule: the Film Noir series in April 2010 at the Egyptian in L.A. and in July, Fantasiafest in Montreal, Canada. Happy Viewing...
