NBC Gives COMMUNITY Season Two!! 30 ROCK and THE OFFICE Officially Back Next Season Too!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
NBC just gave an early second-season pick-up to “Community.”
Its Thursday-night partner, “Parks and Recreation,” got an early third-season pick-up in January.
Even less surprising, the network just gave early pick-ups to two of its highest-rated shows, “The Office” and “30 Rock,” as well.
The birth-centric hour-long "The Office" hit its second-best 18-49 of the season, behind only its last hour-long episode (the one dealing with the Jim-Pam wedding). It beat for the first time "Grey's Anatomy" (by a substantial margin) and easily outgunned once-mighty "CSI" and "Idol" lead-out "Kitchen Nightmares." "Office" was also a big help to "The Marriage Ref," which won its timeslot against new episodes of "The Mentalist" and the imploding "Private Practice" (which hit another season low).
Thursday 18-49 finals (repeats in gray; previous Thursdays in parentheses):

NBC GIVES PICKUPS TO THURSDAY-NIGHT COMEDIES ’30 ROCK,’ ‘THE OFFICE’ AND ‘COMMUNITY’ FOR 2010-11
Renewals Follow Previously Announced Green-light for “Parks and Recreation” on Thursdays
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - March 5, 2010 - NBC has renewed three more of its Thursday-night comedies - “30 Rock” (9:30-10 p.m. ET), “The Office” (9-9:30 p.m. ET) and the freshman series “Community” (8-8:30 p.m. ET) for the 2010-11 season. The returning programs join the previously announced “Parks and Recreation” (Thursdays, 8:30-9 p.m. ET) that also will return for next season.
The announcement was made by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios.
“We are happy to give these early pickups to these critically acclaimed, incredibly funny comedies,” said Bromstad. “As a result, we look forward to continuing our rewarding partnership with the respective creative teams and talented show-runners for ’30 Rock,’ ‘The Office’ and ‘Community’ as they all consistently deliver quality shows.”
First-year comedy "Community" is averaging a 2.7 rating, 7 share in adults 18-49 and 5.9 million viewers overall so far this season, with "Community" originals winning the time period among adults 18-34 and men 18-34. Since moving to the Thursday 8-8:30 p.m. (ET) half-hour on October 8, "Community" has improved the time period by 24 percent versus NBC's adult 18-49 average earlier in the season.
Currently in its sixth season, "The Office" is network television's #1 primetime scripted series among adults 18-34 and is NBC's #1 scripted series in the key demographic of adults 18-49. "The Office" regularly finishes #2 in its highly competitive time period in adults 18-49 ahead of CBS's "CSI." The most recent "Office" telecast on March 4 outscored ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," marking the first time "The Office" has topped "Grey's" head-to-head in adults 18-49. For the season through 23 weeks, "The Office" is averaging a 4.9 rating, 12 share in adults 18-49 and 9.4 million viewers overall, representing gains versus last season of 4 percent in 18-49 and 3 percent in total viewers.
Currently in its fourth season, "30 Rock" is averaging a 3.4 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49 and 6.9 million viewers overall, with "30 Rock" originals winning the time period among men 18-34 and men 18-49 despite airing opposite the concluding half-hours of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and CBS's "CSI." "30 Rock" is the most upscale comedy on broadcast primetime television when ranked by its concentration of homes with $100,000-plus incomes in its adult 18-49 audience.
The Emmy Award-winning comedy series "30 Rock" is told through the comedic voice of Emmy and two-time Golden Globe winner Tina Fey ("Saturday Night Live”) as variety show producer Liz Lemon and features Emmy and three-time Golden Globe winner Alec Baldwin ("The Departed") as top network executive Jack Donaghy. Also starring are Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Scott Adsit, Jack McBrayer, Judah Friedlander and Keith Powell.
"30 Rock" is from Broadway Video & Little Stranger, Inc. in association with Universal Media Studios. The executive producers are Lorne Michaels ("Saturday Night Live"), Fey, Marci Klein ("Saturday Night Live"), David Miner ("Human Giant") and Robert Carlock ("Friends").
“The Office” is the Emmy Award-winning comedy series from Deedle-Dee Productions, Reveille and Universal Media Studios. The show offers a hilarious documentary-style look into the humorous and sometimes poignant foolishness that plagues the world of 9-to-5 and is based on the award-winning BBC hit. Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee Steve Carell ("Get Smart," "Little Miss Sunshine") stars as pompous regional manager Michael Scott..
Also starring are Jenna Fischer ("Walk Hard"), John Krasinski ("Leatherheads"), Rainn Wilson ("The Rocker") and B.J. Novak ("Punk'd"). Other series stars are Ed Helms ("The Hangover"), Leslie David Baker ("Malcolm in the Middle"), Brian Baumgartner ("Arrested Development"), Kate Flannery ("The Heir Apparent"), Mindy Kaling ("The 40-Year-Old Virgin"), Angela Kinsey ("Tripping Forward"), Paul Lieberstein (writer, "King of the Hill"), Oscar Nuñez ("Halfway Home"), Phyllis Smith ("Arrested Development"), Creed Bratton (former member of The Grass Roots) and Craig Robinson ("Curb Your Enthusiasm"). "The Office" is executive-produced by Ben Silverman, Greg Daniels, who developed the series for American audiences, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein and Paul Lieberstein.
From Dan Harmon ("The Sarah Silverman Program") and Emmy Award-winners Joe and Anthony Russo ("Arrested Development") comes "Community," a smart comedy series about a band of misfits who attend Greendale Community College. At the center of the group is Jeff Winger (Joel McHale, "The Soup"), a fast-talking lawyer whose degree has been revoked and forms a study group. Also starring are comedy legend Chevy Chase ("Chuck"), Gillian Jacobs ("The Book of Daniel"), Yvette Nicole Brown ("Rules of Engagement"), Danny Pudi ("Greek"), Alison Brie ("Mad Men"), Donald Glover ("30 Rock") and Ken Jeong ("The Hangover").
"Community" is a production of Krasnoff Foster Entertainment, Harmonious Claptrap, Russo Brothers production and Universal Media Studios in association with Sony Pictures Television. Russ Krasnoff ("The Soloist"), Dan Harmon, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Garrett Donovan ("Scrubs"), Neil Goldman ("Scrubs") and Gary Foster ("The Soloist") serve as executive producers.
"Parks and Recreation," starring Amy Poehler (NBC’s “Saturday Night Live”), is a production of Deedle-Dee Productions and Universal Media Studios. Along with Greg Daniels (NBC’s “The Office”) and Michael Schur (“The Office”), Howard Klein and David Miner also serve as executive producers for the series.

Community may finally be getting it's due. I can't believe I'm saying this, but that entire night on NBC is good television. Especially now that freaking Jay got the boot from primetime
-
Thought the lead actor defined the word smug. Has he gotten less smug?
-
Say it.
-
Phooey to all the haters.
-
So I don't need to buy no more damn Subway.
-
You thought Joel was smug? Isn't that kind of the POINT?? That's like saying that Batman fought too much crime in The Dark Knight or David Letterman was too funny on his late night show. He's supposed to be smug.
-
Yes the lead actor becomes less smug, more sympathetic, learns to accept the fact that he is stuck in Community College at this time in his life and he becomes a bit of a protector to his new friends later on. But all of the characters are endearing in some way, especially Abed who rocks. Essentially the show is about misfits who find friendship, and learn to grow as people in their own way. Plus I wank off to Brita and Annie nightly.
-
was fucking HILARIOUS
-
Michael Scott, after peeking into the delivery room: "That kid's gonna have a lot of hair."
-
It deserves the 9:30 slot
-
McHale is money. The rest of the cast is goofy but it works. The show doesn't take itself too serious. Zany shit. I dig it.
-
Community is fun, though.
-
yay!
-
What the fuck, dude? Why go back to Sarah, Hannah is right fucking there! She's awesome AND she gives you poontang, too. Son of a bitch.

What the fuck, dude? Why go back to Sarah, Hannah is right fucking there! She's awesome AND she gives you poontang, too. Son of a bitch.
-
I still enjoy the Office but I can't stand Michael Scott anymore. He has no redeeming qualities anymore, he's just annoying.
-
Stupid Emmys. Stupid Golden Globes.
-
Because season 4 of Heroes was an improvement, and it'd be a shame to reward that with cancellation. And Chuck is Chuck, it's fun and there aren't many shows on any of the three to four networks that can make that claim anymore. Just not wise to cancel either show when NBC has so few high profile shows in the wake of the Leno Show mistake. They've cancelled too much already.
-
I saw the first ep, and was kinda "meh" but kept watching and it kept getting better.
Last nights episode was hilarious, especially the ending with Abed and Troy. Almost fell out of my seat laughing!
And yes, please renew Chuck, no more subway. -
Best new comedy! And I've been digging P&R this season...NBC has a solid two hour line-up on Thursdays...
-
creepiest damned mascot EVER! reminds me a little of the bad guys on the Power Rangers
-
Or is it More Brown Joey?
-
Ron Swanson is a very, very close second.
-
I want to see how Leno & Dave are doing.
-
is steadily becoming the strongest player on that show. He's always playing everything different to the others.
-
A snipet from a January 2010 NY Times article: Mr. McHale, who has a year left on his contract at “The Soup,” said he had no plans to leave that show. “With the unpredictability of network television,” he said, “ ‘The Soup’ is working really well. And I have two kids, so I want to make sure they go to college.”Full article: http://nyti.ms/4vlmm5

Here's to hoping that show is off the air ASAP.
-
Picking the frigid blonde bitch over the hottie from Smallville who was PUTTING OUT - last straw. Just the same bullshit to string out the "will they, won't they" crap (although it was funny the two mob guys making comments about the same, and nice to see Sopranos guys getting some work)
Oh, and Community rules. Two of the hottest chicks on TV (no, not the black one) -
Thanks to all the TBers who recommended Supernatural - just started Season 2, having a blast. This TB seemed as good as any to do that, but just to stay on topic - 30 rock is pretty good on the whole. Do we really need more of The Office though? Figured they'd wrap it up after the baby is born. Surely Steve Carrell & Co. have better stuff to do?
-
My Name is Earl instead of 30 Rock. 30 Rock is garbage as far as I'm concerned. Tina Fey and her even less funny Weekend Updater partner ruined SNL for me, for life. Community, Parks, and Office are great though.
-
that fucker has lost all his sense of humor
-
Private Practice (which I loathe) scores a 2.7 at a less viewed 10pm timeslot and it's "imploding". But Community (which I like) and P&R (which I also loathe) score abysmal CW like 2.3's at a more popular time slot with far more viewers and it's praised? WTF? Either someone is drinking far to much of that NBC kool-aid or just being plain hypocritical. Community deserves to be on after the Office again where it was pulling in close to a 3.0, pairing it with P&R is just dragging a good show down with a terrible one.

I love The Office, but is Carell addicted to plastic surgery...

...or something? He's starting to look like Axl Rose or Michael Jackson [when he was alive]. It's distracting.

The Marriage Ref is basically Jerry Seinfeld without
by tuneintomyweirdness
Larry David. Larry David went on to create Curb Your Enthusiasm and Jerry went on to create Marriage Ref. Ever notice how much Seinfeld started to suck after Larry left after Season 7? Larry David is the real talent. Jerry Seinfeld was and always will be a fucking hack
-
Parks & Rec is about as funny as cancer
-
What a hideous unfunny mess that show is.
-
I've only seen the first 3 episodes, and it was some of the lamest shit I've ever seen. The pilot episode was horrendously unfunny.good to see "30 Rock" is back. It's not always funny, and the show can be quite uneven. But when it's funny, it destroys everything else on TV that's comedy-related.
-
Just finished shooting a few weeks ago. It's full on crazy - spoofing over the top action movies.
-
and has, almost week to week, been on a constant slide to where it sits now at a 2.7. Parks, while not getting ratings as high as PP, has remained relatively consistent all season. Community has fallen too, but not from as high a perch. And, as you said, Community & Parks have much more competition in their timeslots, while PP has it a lot easier (no Fox or CW programs up against it). Private Practice, a 10pm show, is a spin off of the network's 9pm show, the 9pm show that is often right up there with the highest rated shows of the evening. It is not able to retain that audience. With 50% of the competing (major) networks not programming that hour, you have to think said show is, in the eyes of the network executives, "failing".
-
I don't think he dumped her to go back to Sarah. The way I saw it - when Chuck found out Sarah's real name, after knowing her for 3 years, and not because she told him but because he overheard it, he realized he didn't want to do that to Hannah. It wouldn't be fair to her to be in a relationship with her when he'd have to lie to her all the time. Although I kind of thought he had learned that lesson with Rachel Bilson. Perhaps the emotional impact of learning Sarah still didn't trust him enough with her real name was a whole new level of lesson for Chuck. Plus, I think Chuck is somewhat "over" Sarah since he realized she feels more of a connection with Superman, tells him her real name after only knowing him a few weeks, than she ever has felt with him.
-
The problem with the show is that it can't make up its mind which type of comedy it wants to be. Each episode starts with a silly Better Off Dead kinda vibe, then tapers off into a typical John Hughes formula during the last 10-minutes.The characters are diverse and each brings something different to the table. Yet at the same time, each are also totally annoying when an episode centers on one of them. Chevy Chase is the best example of this. His character only works well when he's relegated to the background. Although Ken Jeong tries his best to out-awful him every chance he gets. It's worth a look if you haven't seen it, but it's a mess. Maybe it just needs a second season to find its rhythm.
-
but i can agree with you immortal_fish. its not the biting comedy im used to, but its not strictly a 'family' comedy either. i think its a good show, but will evolve into a great show because all the elements are there, they just need to be fine tuned a bit.
-
I prefer Kreuk as his love interest to Sarah. In fact I'd be fine if they just dropped the Sarah/Chuck plot and had him be with Kreuk as a regular thing. And I've never seen her in anything else.
-
Thank god. I honestly expected them to give it the axe. Maybe fox isnt as retarded as they once were. Thank god some decent scifi will remain on the air once lost ends this spring.
-
And it's called "Archer"!
Danjah zone! -
Yes! I'm so relieved Fringe got picked up for another season. I was really worried for the show for a while there since we're talking FOX. How John Noble doesn't get nominated for a supporting actor award is still beyond me.
-
Tribune has said they are not going to finance it anymore and it's being shopped around. The show started out pretty meh but in the last half dozen episodes has become a lot of fun. If you guys haven't seen it and want to try a random episode, I recommend Hunger.
-
The character of michael scott can no longer sustain comedy in the show... its gotten to the point where i want people to just blow up and put the guy in his place countless times an episode. He has become extremely unlikable. 30 rock has been a major disappointment for me this season--i guess tracy morgan was too busy doing Cop out, because he's BARELY seen on 30 rock anymore, and he was by far my favorite character on the show. i'm crossing my fingers that cop out will compensate.
-
Community has moments of sheer brilliance. But, Chevy Chase feels like he brings things down to me. He needs to be his character more and Chevy less.
-
I'd never really thought about it, but how is it possible john noble hasnt been nominated for that role for anything? I don't tihnk its a well-kept secret or anything that he's not just the strongest thing on the show, but playing a character aboout 99% of actors wouldnt be able to pull off on their best day.
-
Think about it. In the early episodes he had both a sadistic streak (joke firing Pam on camera for the reaction) and a racist one (too many examples to mention but the one where he mocked convenience store clerks to Mindy Kaling's face is a major one). But as the show's gone on, he's become more of "Rain Man" style savant. Childlike, annoying, but has some super ability to sell paper and that keeps him his job.
-
I see two problems with the current season. The first is that the writers are trying to make Jack more sympathetic or relatable but only making him look silly and weak (for example, breaking into his ex's house to delete the emails). The second (and kind of the opposite of the first) is the fact that Liz is getting less relatable and weirder. She was always the quirky girl but she was also supposed to be the voice of reason (kind of a nerd Mary Tyler Moore). But since Fey apparently wants to be less of the straight woman and more of a comedienne, they are starting to write her as some sort of freak.
-
It can't decide if it wants to be Arrested Development Goes to College or the Breakfast Club Gets Old. That is, surrealist humor or heartwarmingly funny.
-
I like it. Primarily for the supporting characters but even Pohler's much more watchable here (playing a pretty middle aged woman who's risen to her level of incompetence) than she was trying to mug through every single SNL skit, even the ones where another actor would be better. You also have some great supporting playings, especially Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman and Aubrey Plaza.
-
just enjoy it for whatever it is. Yes, some jokes are cryptic and hit or miss. But it's really hitting it's stride.
-
He is the funniest thing on Community. Abed is annoying as hell.
Chase is what the Steve Carrell character should have been like on Office - that is a David Brent Uk copy.
Who cares if it can't decide what it wants to be?...arrested development or Breakfast club. That is what makes it unique. Best show out there at the moment.
