Learn Who FIVE-O Booked As Danno!!

Published at:  Mar 05, 2010 12:50:14 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Scott Caan, who plays Turk Malloy in Steven Soderburgh’s “Ocean’s” movies, will step into the role of Dan Williams, a “Hawaii Five-0” detective made famous by Steve McGarrett’s episode-closing catchphrase “Book him, Danno.”

Caan’s movie resume includes also roles in “Enemy of the State,” “Varsity Blues,” “Boiler Room,” “Gone in Sixty Seconds,” “Into The Blue” and “Friends With Money.” He recurs on HBO’s “Entourage” as angry talent agent Scott Lavin.

Williams is the last major component of the classic “Five-0” team to be cast in the CBS pilot.

Alex O'Loughlin (“Moonlight,” “Three Rivers”) plays agency boss McGarrett, Daniel Dae Kim (“Lost”) plays Chin-Ho Kelly and the mountainous Kono Kalakaua has been reimagined as a skinny female detective, Kona Kalakaua, played by Grace Park (“Battlestar Galactica”).

Taryn Manning (“8 Mile,” “Sons of Anarchy”) is also in the cast as McGarrett’s kid sister, Mary Ann.

    by rabidfnark

they have a long way to go prove that this a good idea and is worthy of watching. I mean look what happened with Night Stalker (shudder). Some things (like this and 'Rockford') are probably better off kept in the past where they belong, but I really hope they prove me wrong.

Carrie Anne Moss is also in the cast. She plays another gender-switch from the original series, the Governor.

    by dragon man

    A few thoughts:

    1) The idea of dramatic pausing on the actors for the opening credits deserves all the relentless mocking the idea's received over the years:

    2) Was that Gary Busey version for real?

    3) The Star Trek mash-up was so cheesy it made me laugh. Very well put together.

    Yes it was

    by thedork

The Busey version was for real, working off memory. I never saw it, or any clips, but I seem to remember it was a Stephen J. Cannell production in the 90s, the pilot was filmed but not picked up by CBS. Also: Kam Fong (the original Chin Ho Kelly) reprised his role in this project, and purposely neglected to tell the producers his character had been killed off in the original series...something that caused a major problem. Again, working only off memory from all this. I also think Busey was playing a new head of Five-0, NOT McGarrett, and that James McArthur had a cameo as the governor. Someone will probably (Wiki) correct any errors I made.

    Better casting than Rockford

    by jtp8000

But then most of the original 5-0 cast were pretty wooden.

Moss makes sense as the governor- Hawaii has a female governor

off topic- the choice of Dylan McDemott Mulroney as Rockford still sucks

    Hawaii 5-0 reboot?

    by arcangel2020

    Hmmmmmm...
I am a little leery of the re-booting of this much beloved 70ies cop show set in Hawaii!
I am going to take a wait and see type approach...I remember (vauguely) actually watching the original show when it aired on CBS back in the 70ies (My father had been stationed at Pearl, I was born at Trippler Naval Hospital and my family LOVED Hawaii and never stopped..even after relocating to the SF Bay Area).
I really became a fan of the original show after watching a lot of the episodes in syndication as I grew older...it is still a great cop show that ranks up there with Streets of San Francisco, Starsky & Hutch, 1 Adam 12, Dragnetm The Rookies and SWAT as far as I am concerned.
Let's hope the new series rocks and doesn;t suck Mondo-Coconut Balls! (One good thing to note? Grace Park is going to be in it? Sweet!! :) )
