Disney XD Reveals TRON LEGACY CGI Series (Sorta)!!
Merrick here...
Disney XD unveiled its Upfront slate a day or two ago, where Gary Marsh (Entertainment President & CCO of Disney Channels Worldwide) revealed some stills from a TRON LEGACY CGI series which may appear on that channel.
Marsh also offered a glimpse at Tron: Legacy, which is at such an early juncture in the development process that only stills were available. The project is a CGI refresh of Disney’s 1982 theatrical, and may be positioned as a companion piece to the 3-D feature of the same name that is expected to be released in December of this year.
Neither pilot has been green-lighted as yet, Marsh said.
“Tron is another example of how we can take advantage of the intellectual property that the studio unit pays tens, if not hundreds, of millions to develop and market,” Marsh said.
...says Mediaweek HERE.
This news corroborates our initial scoop about this project's existence, which appeared here back in early February (DETAILS). If anyone out there actually got a look at the development stills shown at the Upfront, SEND IN A DESCRIPTION - we'd love to hear what the (possible) show might look like.
I'm imagining something kinda like REBOOT?
Thanks to Robogeek for pointing out the Mediaweek article.

I, for one, cannot get enough tron.

Why reboot a series that you are JUST making a sequel to. Perhaps if it would be considered a "remastering" using new visuals but the original vocal track for the characters, that would be somewhat understandable, even if they fleshed it out and added new stuff in between. Actually, that would be damn cool!!

I guess Merrick didn't see the news over at Blue Sky Disney a few days ago about the Tron series being animated and a lot of other news about Tron Disneyland stuff: http://blueskydisney.blogspot.com/2010/03/electronic-chatter.html

At least they're up front about it.

Has Disney ever not been upfront about doing it for the money?
by terry1978
Even their properties that turn out to be excellent, they have no qualms with admitting it's to turn a profit. I respect them for that, at least.

This is could be awesome!
-
i'm excited, i'm tired of watching PBS' cyberchase and pretending that it's tron...
-
but wait,tron sucks.Why me worry?
-
Saying "at least Disney admits they're doing this to make money" is stupid.
-
Although there was a hot cyber-chick if I remember. Didn't Mainframe Animation go bust?

@Dallas1701D, Merrick's referring to the 1990's cartoon TV show on ABC and Cartoon Network (more found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReBoot). I kind want to see more of that show then a Tron cartoon. Reboot was funny and creative. "Warning, in coming game!"
-
And I was 17, for work. And I would basically watch it, almost desentitized, while I made coffee.I watched it for months, but recall absolutely NOTHING of it. Also, I recall there being A SHAMELESS Power Rangers rip-off on after Reboot. It was SO BAD,you had to watch it.Anyone recall this??

And for fun, here is another blast from the wretched past...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUz6erC-iCA

This one actually took place inside the computer world.

I do not understand why people think that Disney owes them something and should be ashamed of making money for providing a lifetime of entertainment. Disney is a business. Without the profit making empire, there would be no parks, movies, cartoons, nothing. I actually prefer parents buying racks of Hannah Montana clothes and shelves of Cars toys if it helps fund the next great Toy Story ride and Tron film that I can enjoy with minimum funding from myself. Oh, and bless those people who stay at Disney Deluxe hotels on vacation for $365 a night while I stay at a discounted value hotel for $44 a night. You rock, people that spend much more money than I do and I get to enjoy the rewards. Disney, keep milking those people dry!
-
that he meant the cartoon ReBoot. Still like my idea, though.

This is a NEED-TO-KNOW question.

they just empty their cache... little packets ... cookies...

..Not that I watch DISNEY XD or Aaron Stone... *glances away*

first time since seeing it as a young kid, and it was great to see it in HD. Really liked it. Got me excited to go see the new one.
-
Please. For the love of all gods! GET Genndy Tartakovsky to do the micro-series. His Clone Wars was awesome. and Samurai Jack is legend.
