Disney XD Reveals TRON LEGACY CGI Series (Sorta)!!

Published at:  Mar 04, 2010 8:34:00 AM CST

Merrick here...

Disney XD unveiled its Upfront slate a day or two ago, where Gary Marsh (Entertainment President & CCO of Disney Channels Worldwide) revealed some stills from a TRON LEGACY CGI series which may appear on that channel.

Marsh also offered a glimpse at Tron: Legacy, which is at such an early juncture in the development process that only stills were available. The project is a CGI refresh of Disney’s 1982 theatrical, and may be positioned as a companion piece to the 3-D feature of the same name that is expected to be released in December of this year.

Neither pilot has been green-lighted as yet, Marsh said.

“Tron is another example of how we can take advantage of the intellectual property that the studio unit pays tens, if not hundreds, of millions to develop and market,” Marsh said.

...says Mediaweek HERE.

This news corroborates our initial scoop about this project's existence, which appeared here back in early February (DETAILS). If anyone out there actually got a look at the development stills shown at the Upfront, SEND IN A DESCRIPTION - we'd love to hear what the (possible) show might look like.

I'm imagining something kinda like REBOOT?

Thanks to Robogeek for pointing out the Mediaweek article.

    A Reboot of sorts??

    by dallas1701d

Why reboot a series that you are JUST making a sequel to. Perhaps if it would be considered a "remastering" using new visuals but the original vocal track for the characters, that would be somewhat understandable, even if they fleshed it out and added new stuff in between. Actually, that would be damn cool!!

Has Disney ever not been upfront about doing it for the money?

    by terry1978

Even their properties that turn out to be excellent, they have no qualms with admitting it's to turn a profit. I respect them for that, at least.

    Reboot was an awesome show!

    by thegreendog

@Dallas1701D, Merrick's referring to the 1990's cartoon TV show on ABC and Cartoon Network (more found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReBoot). I kind want to see more of that show then a Tron cartoon. Reboot was funny and creative. "Warning, in coming game!"

Why would Disney not want to make money?

    by jimbojones123

I do not understand why people think that Disney owes them something and should be ashamed of making money for providing a lifetime of entertainment. Disney is a business. Without the profit making empire, there would be no parks, movies, cartoons, nothing. I actually prefer parents buying racks of Hannah Montana clothes and shelves of Cars toys if it helps fund the next great Toy Story ride and Tron film that I can enjoy with minimum funding from myself. Oh, and bless those people who stay at Disney Deluxe hotels on vacation for $365 a night while I stay at a discounted value hotel for $44 a night. You rock, people that spend much more money than I do and I get to enjoy the rewards. Disney, keep milking those people dry!
