Dustin Hoffman To Be A Regular On A TV Show!! HBO’s New Horse Drama From DEADWOOD Mastermind David Milch!!
I am – Hercules!!
Dustin Hoffman (“The Graduate,” “Midnight Cowboy, “Little Big Man”) is about embark upon his first starring role in a TV series.
He has been cast as an ex-con gambler in the horseracing drama “Luck,” the third HBO series from “Deadwood” and “John From Cincinnati” mastermind David Milch.
Hoffman has guested on TV series in the past, perhaps most memorably as Lisa’s substitute teacher in a very early episode of “The Simpsons” nearly two decades ago.
Hoffman’s other big-screen credits include “All The President’s Men,” “Straw Dogs,” “Papillon,” “Lenny,” “Marathon Man,” “Straight Time,” “Kramer Vs. Kramer,” “Tootsie,” “Ishtar,” “Rain Man,” “Family Business,” “Dick Tracy,” “Billy Bathgate,” “Hook,” “Outbreak,” “Sleepers,” “Wag The Dog,” “Sphere,” “The Messenger,” “Runaway Jury,” “I Heart Huckabees,” “Meet The Fockers” and “Stranger Than Fiction.”

That you posted his credits, Herc. Otherwise we might not have any idea who Dustin Hoffman was.
-
Loved Deadwood. Been meaning to check out John From Cincinatii soon.
-
And Dennis Farina! Very Promising. But who's the Gangster's MOLL? We need some Film Noir Broads in this Cast pronto!
-
I hope we don't see that headline, especially if its good, but with HBO and Milch its very likely.
-
CRIKEY!
-
...was great. And Hoffman's voice-acting in it was some of the best ever, movie or TV show.
-
However, I'm exceedingly interested in seeing footage of Mann flipping his shit when Milch starts doing script rewrites off the top of his head in the middle of shooting. Maybe HBO should turn that into a series.
-
I like this trend that seems to be developing with big time movie actors moving into TV. Right now, I think a lot of TV stuff is more interesting than the movie stuff anyway. Giving talented people the capacity to tell long drawn out stories is starting to make TV a more exciting medium in a lot of ways.
-
It's the next logical step for an aging movie star.
-
Best. Show. Ever.
-
Lots of nonsensical monologues peppered with pointless profanity.
-
A masterpiece so far. Looking fwd to this, there is no actor like the Hoff.
-
Wasn't there some sort of issue where Hoffman wasn't credited for the episode? If I recall correctly they used the name "Sam Etic" for Mr. Bergstrom's character.
-
Jay-Z just shitted on everyone in this talkback. WOOT WOOT
-
Pay no mind to that dirt worshippin' heathen cocksucker. Hooplehead wouldn't know pointless profanity if it walked up and grabbed him by the fuckin' short hair.
-
You sound like a loopy cunt.

Give me GAME OF THRONES, or lose my subscription...
by stereotypical evil archer
If Game of Thrones doesn't get greenlighted or if it gets canceled before the ENTIRE series is finished then you can count on many people canceling subscriptions and copying HBO blue-rays instead of buying them; yes, Game of Thrones fans are that dedicated and organized. HBO needs a quality series that will sustain them for years; a franchise with fans that will stick with it for generations to come; Game of Thrones is capable of this. Their only other choice is to bring back Deadwood and Rome and force Larry David to have 50 new episodes a year.
-
Now, that's fuckin' expression I've heard!Every day that goes by, Milch better be prayin' to that big, holy cocksucker above to spare him from the wiles of Al Swearengen.
-
Very weird series. Don't expect 'Deadwood' on the beach. Really hard to pin down ... vaguely Lynchian vibe, one of the stranger short series I've seen on the tube. Shows Milch's strong work with ensemble casts and long story arcs, but with a funky pseudo-supernatural tone. I recommend it if you haven't seen it and if you can keep open-minded. It does end rather abruptly though with a few loose ends.
-
Actually he hasn't had a big hit in decades, which is a pity. The man gave us any number of iconic roles, and now it's "Last Chance Harvey". Even male actors get older and find the good parts thinning out, in todays youth-oriented Hollywood. So if HBO is where it's at now, why not?
-
Prick.
-
How about HBO give Milch the money to give us some DEADWOOD closure?!!
Milch ain't a prick. -
out pop culture references in really quick bursts of dialogue? Ooops, wrong horse show and wrong writer.
-
Milch sucks for no Deadwood closure
-
A shot about a horse. Really? Does anyone want to watch this? Of all subject matters- this is what the execs are giving us?
-
...but it doesn't, so I don't.
-
that movie about the toy store, the meet the parents sequel, last chance harvey...ugh.
-
HBO has rebounded after a slow period after the Sopranos ended...now they are on a roll...True Blood, Big Love etc...with some big upcoming projects as well...The Pacific, that new show set in New Orleans post-Katrina, this new horse show and the biggest one of all, Boardwalk Empire...they even got big name Hollywood directors like Martin Scorsese and Michael Mann directing episodes...HBO is back big time!
-
If Walking Dead does very well- HBO will develop Preacher?
-
Fucking-a.
-
Love that Milch is putting out a new series, but Hoffman has always rubbed me the wrong way. Overrated, if not outright bad actor, IMO. I'd rather an unknown (or little known) lead.
-
We will not remember my father's words.
-
I look forward to scenes where Dustin is talking to his box with an indian head in it while waiting for the 6 race to start at Hollywood Park.
Do we know where show is set? e.g Louisville, NY, LA, etc.? -
They will wipe YOU out.
-
john from cincy was the worst show of all time
-
It WAS DEFINITELY A bizarre show.I gave it a go because of Milch and Greenwood. But,it was not as good as I would've guessed. However, if it would've been picked up, it might've improved.Wanna hear Milch talk about it? Enjoy http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/34/other-other-topics/david-milch-explains-john-cincinnati-hints-deadwood-cause-death-358148/
-
put back on the air. Hoffman is really grating on the ear.
-
It's not Milch's fault Deadwood doesn't have closure. HBO failed to re-sign the actor's contracts which allowed them to pursue other projects, then they offered Milch a chance to make a 6 episode final season which he didn't want to do because some character's would have to be re-cast and he would'nt be able to finish the story the way he wanted. Then HBO offered him to make two two-hour films which have never been made for probably the same reasons the 6 episode season was never made. Blame HBO, not Milch.
-
Most of you that say you didn't like John from Cincinnati probably didn't give it a chance. It's only ten hours, watch it all the way through...... www.savejfc.net
-
Screw Milch and his BS decision not to film a shortened season to end the show. The HBO boss offered it to him but he chose to make a full season of John from Cinci. A show which sucked major balls.
So screw milch until he fucking provides closure to deadwood -
the actors weren't expired when HBO offered him a shortened season. Milch said no because he didn't think a shortened last season could work. He had this thing in his head about each episode being a day or some bullshit.
He couldn't wrap his head around changing the time lapse between episodes. Plus he sounded more interested in moving on to John from cincinnati.
It wasn't until after Milch turned down the 6 episode offer that the contracts lapsed, thus making a miniseries wrapup impossible. -
the little surfer kid and the chick that worked in the shop were TERRIBLE actors. But it was the writing that really killed it.
I watched 7 episodes and just said fuck it. -
I don't know Butchie,instead.
-
feel like they're on fire.Captain Magic pants.
-
I hope that Milch doesn't get too conservative with Lucky in response to JFC. That show could have been genius if he'd had a second season. Deadwood WAS genius.
-
YOU fucking cocksucker
