Dustin Hoffman (“The Graduate,” “Midnight Cowboy, “Little Big Man”) is about embark upon his first starring role in a TV series. He has been cast as an ex-con gambler in the horseracing drama “Luck,” the third HBO series from “Deadwood” and “John From Cincinnati” mastermind David Milch. Hoffman has guested on TV series in the past, perhaps most memorably as Lisa’s substitute teacher in a very early episode of “The Simpsons” nearly two decades ago. Hoffman’s other big-screen credits include “All The President’s Men,” “Straw Dogs,” “Papillon,” “Lenny,” “Marathon Man,” “Straight Time,” “Kramer Vs.
