Ain't It Cool News (

Set Your DVR!! Howard Stern And Roger Ebert Coming To Daytime TV Tuesday!!

I am – Hercules!!
Two things to record while you’re at work Tuesday: 1) Roger Ebert makes his first nationally televised appearance in years on “Oprah.” 2) On CBS’ “The Early Show,” Harry Smith gets Howard Stern’s appraisal of the first new episode in months of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” Stern has made no secret of the fact that he fucking hates Leno. Speaking of Stern? Next Wednesday, March 10, is the date of his Tiger Woods Mistress Beauty Contest live on Sirius Satellite Radio. At least four of Woods’ actual mistresses will be half-naked and swapping sex stories as they compete for the $100,000 top prize. Given Stern’s take-no-prisoners interviewing technique, expect headlines to be made. “The Early Show”: 7 a.m. Tuesday. CBS. “Oprah”: syndicated. Check local listings.

The Blu-ray Amok-Babel-Tribble-enhanced second season of “Star Trek,” $67.99 just a couple days ago, just fell to an all-time low of $39.99!! (69% Off!!)

    Tiger Woods Mistress Beauty Contest

    by slone13

  • March 1, 2010, 4:31 p.m. CST

I'd rather see Stern on Letterman

    by TheBitchuation

He could probably be a bit more vicious and profane on latenight TV than a morning show.

  • March 1, 2010, 4:33 p.m. CST

Damn you Herc thought it was them together

    by CarmillaVonDoom

As you know, Siskel & Ebert had some good times on the old Stern show.

  • March 1, 2010, 4:46 p.m. CST

Can't wait for the mistress contest.

    by AzulTool

I'm a big Stern fan, and it's good to see him inject himself into two stories that won't die (See: American Idol...Actually, don't see it, that show blows dick)

  • March 1, 2010, 5 p.m. CST

    "expect headlines to me made"

    by jim

Sure, the headlines for "The Daily Who Gives A Shit" and "The Pseudo-Celebrity Post"<p>Who am I kidding? Hercules is right. Anything those women say regarding Tiger Woods will be Tuesday's Top Story with every major, and many minor, media outlet.

  • March 1, 2010, 5:01 p.m. CST

Stern has been irrelevant for years now.

    by fiester

Not since the early '90s has he been the least bit interesting, provocative, or even consistently funny. He has more in common with Imus now than any other figure: a washed-up hack recycling the same bits. Tired, old, stretched too thin. No one cares anymore, Howard. No one's listening and no one cares anymore.

  • March 1, 2010, 5:01 p.m. CST

    "expect headlines to me made"

    by jim

I assume Hercules meant "expect headlines to BE made"

  • March 1, 2010, 5:05 p.m. CST

I bet Stern talks tough on his show....

    by jaysin420

then apologizes to jay and spends the entire time on beth's animal care bullshit.

  • March 1, 2010, 5:05 p.m. CST

    About the headlines...

    by MrPoop

Oprah is giving out corduroy pillowcases to the audience.

If you are not reading his blog you are missing out on some great writing about almost everything BUT movies.

  • March 1, 2010, 5:09 p.m. CST

    Roger Ebert

    by TampaBayLightning

...has about as much relevant insight and talent for spotting good movies as harry does. How's the HD-DVD treating you harry?

  • March 1, 2010, 5:26 p.m. CST

    Stern FOOKING ROOLS!!!

    by Linguo_IS_Dead

Unfortunately, I don't ever plan to pay for the privilege of radio. I HATE Leno too...

  • March 1, 2010, 5:29 p.m. CST

Stern needs to move back to free radio

    by Titus05

no one frackin pays for radio!! the way how's he gonna be on The Early Show, I thought he had his radio show to do in the morning? he on vacation?

  • March 1, 2010, 5:43 p.m. CST

    Stop it

    by mascan42

Holy fuck Herc, could you get your mouth off of Howie's cock for five minutes? Your constant shilling for his show is pathetic.

  • March 1, 2010, 5:48 p.m. CST

Didn't he do a radio show in the 90s?

    by Immortal_Fish

    "Howard Stern." Sounds kinda familiar.

  • March 1, 2010, 6:29 p.m. CST

I used to be a chronic Stern listener

    by InActionMan

I has my SIRIUS subscription, listened to the entire show every day. <P> Then this greedy prick starts starts doing live reads for "" a "dating" site for people who want to cheat on their spouse. <P> Comedy, parody and satire are one thing and I don't have very many if any limits on what I believe can be ridiculed. However, taking money to tell people to harm their families and children was beyond what I was willing to accept. <P> Stern is and was a multimillionaire. He certainly didn't need the money. His boss Mel Karmazin was also a multimillionaire and didn't need the money. I don't care how poorly SIRIUS was doing financially at the time there are some lines that should not be crossed. <P> I realized this prick would do pretty much anything for another dollar. Stern would probably do a commercial for NAMBLA if they paid him enough. <P> So I canceled my SIRIUS subscription and never looked back.

  • March 1, 2010, 6:59 p.m. CST

    by Bouncy X

the scary thing, i used to see commercials for them on tv about a year or two ago. at first i thought it was a joke and it would be the energizer bunny or something but no...its real. hilarious. lol

  • March 1, 2010, 7 p.m. CST

    Stern irrelevant? HAH!!!

    by Arch_Stanton

He has more daily devoted listeners that either Leno or Letterman has viewers - and I'm sorry to bust your bubble, but we're not talking just the crusty under-belly of society, like me. We're talking about some of the best demographic numbers in the business. Very high-income, high-consuming folk. You can tell yourself you have a great sense of humor if you want, but if hate Howard, you're most likely full of shit.

  • March 1, 2010, 7:01 p.m. CST

    by Arch_Stanton

if you hate Howard you can lick my taint! F Jackie!!!!!

  • March 1, 2010, 7:13 p.m. CST

    Predictable Thread

    by Itchy

Took less than a dozen posts before someone who hasn't listened to him in the last 5 years says he is irrelevant. Now all we need is some douche to come on and say Opie and Anthony are better and we'll all be set.

  • March 1, 2010, 7:14 p.m. CST

And as far as his show ...

    by Itchy

it's been a little tired since Artie stabbed himself in the chest 12 times. Artie really drove that show the last two years. I'd still rather listen to five hours of Stern talking about Dancing with the Stars and how he wipes his ass with baby wipes than anything else on the radio, though. And Howard Stern On Demand is probably the only reason I keep cable.

  • March 1, 2010, 7:25 p.m. CST

Set your DVR's, Jay Leno sucks major dick, tonight!

    by AzulTool

    Almost forgot about that bitch.

  • March 1, 2010, 7:37 p.m. CST

Opie and Anthony are better than Stern

    by prunkhaft

And Arch is correct. Stern draws a larger daily audience than Leno, Letterman, Ferguson, and Kimmel combined. On a pay service. He's doing the Early Show a huge favor.

  • March 1, 2010, 7:52 p.m. CST

Why would anyone want to see this?

    by whittiest

    Seriously, who the heck cares?

  • March 1, 2010, 7:55 p.m. CST

I never cease to be amazed.....

by whittiest the irrelevancy of the news here. None of this stuff is cool. Isn't that what the site is supposed to be about? Cool news? Hello?

  • March 1, 2010, 8:05 p.m. CST

    Stern is utterly irrelevant.

    by fiester

What's more, he recognizes it himself. Going to pay radio didn't help but he was already in rapid decline by that point. It did not take radio programming to realize people are only half-awake in the morning and will listen to just about anything and that Stern is only magical in his ability to self-hype. He hasn't done anything remotely interesting, cutting-edge, or original in well over a decade. It's just the same old shit ad nauseum. No one cares anymore. He's been gone from the public ever since he took up with pay radio--and no one misses him! No one even remembers when he used to matter anymore. And desperate stunts like self-promoting a bogus rumor that he was being considered as an American Idol judge--essentially coasting on that lame show's popularity to get himself some press--just underscores how very far he has fallen. It figures Harry would still like him though: he seems to specialize in irrelevance lately.

  • March 1, 2010, 8:14 p.m. CST

InActionMan...stern doesnt sell his ad time

    by brabon300

never are angry at the wrong guy

  • March 1, 2010, 8:19 p.m. CST must be an o and a twat

    by brabon300

i suggest you look at what stern's ratings were before he went to sirius<p> no evidence of a decline<p> but what did happen was that every terrestrial station he was at had significant revenue and listenership losses that even carolla couldnt fix<p> and funny, for an irrelevant guy, how is it that letterman's ratings jump every time he has stern on?<p> btw, stern has been about self promotion since day 1...where the fuck have you been?

  • March 1, 2010, 8:23 p.m. CST

    "Given Stern’s take-no-prisoners interviewing technique"

Great. That means such stimulating, insightful questions like, "Do you like it in the ass, honey?" and "What's the biggest cock you've ever sucked?" Stern is old hat.

  • March 1, 2010, 8:37 p.m. CST

    howard's show is boring now.

    by RedHorseVector

i still listen to it, but opie and anthony are better. herc makes me nauseous the way he laps at stern's balls so eagerly and so often.

  • March 1, 2010, 9:25 p.m. CST

    i don't give a fuck about what's considered relevant.

    by RedHorseVector

i like funny shows, and howard's hasn't been cutting it. for a long time, really, but especially since artie went awol. show me a person who says the last month of the stern show was good, and i'll show you a fanboy.

  • March 1, 2010, 9:27 p.m. CST

    o&a is boring...

    by RedHorseVector

yeah, i wish they would be more like howard and spend two hours a day fantasizing about what they would do if they were judges on american idol. that'd be hysterical!

  • March 1, 2010, 9:30 p.m. CST

herc praising the SIRIUS era stern show is a badge of dishonor.

    Good tv

    by KevinMuller

What time is Stern coming on? I unfortunately got into Stern when it was his last few years. I didn't mind taking early morning classes back in college because I used to love listening to him. Ebert, man..what can I say about this man? he is the reason we are all a part of this site. He taught us not only was film an art, but judging it too. when I was awkward and lonesome in middle and high school, I found my passion thanks to watching Siskel and Ebert. I will def be watching Oprah tomorrow.

    Any "wild" radio personalities...

    by Kevin

Should be on their knees at the base of Stern's throne, thanking The King of All Media for making it possible for their careers to exist in the first place. All you O&A fucktards wouldn't have a show to listen to if it wasn't for The Howard Stern show blazing the path. Stern and his staff are radio gods. The only reason satellite radio didn't die on the vine is due to his powerful influence on the medium. Terrestrial radio is shit post-Stern and the ratings prove my point daily.

  • March 2, 2010, 1:31 a.m. CST

I will never watch Jay Leno again...

    by KeepFuckingThatChicken

...just so I can screw him over as one person less in ratings. If I need to see anything interesting from his show, a 3rd party internet source is my friend. I hope Letterman keeps his leader status <p> LethargicJ--You made me laugh pretty good.

  • March 2, 2010, 2:18 a.m. CST

Ebert was on TV like last year

    by ShiftyEyedDog2

It was 60 Minutes or one of those type of shows. They did a whole lengthy piece on him. That was the first I'd heard of the extent of his illness, his jaw, etc... Now all of a sudden it's "news"

  • March 2, 2010, 2:33 a.m. CST

ScarStar, you have a warped view of the situation

    by SlimButNotreally

Let me explain to you about people who "blaze a path."<BR><BR>Jackie Robinson "blazed a path" by being the first black man to play in major league baseball. if not him, then yes, someone else would have...but they didnt have to put up with the kinds of death threats and overall evil racism that Jackie had to deal with. That's blazing a fucking path. Howard Stern did what a lot of people wanted to do and he just got lucky with it. He was an awful disc jockey. Saying offensive things on their made him, and the reality is that Jackie made his show what it was. Having a very good comedian write all of his material was really the only genius thing Stern has EVER done.

  • March 2, 2010, 2:58 a.m. CST

    by Bartleby T. Scrivener

Stern is a great radio personality for sure, but that's all. He can be funny on his show, but he's not performing sets at the Improv, nor is he hashing out great comedic scripts.

  • March 2, 2010, 3:15 a.m. CST

i didnt know people still listened to radio.

    by alice133

and lol @ paying to listen to it. <p>(i mean other than rushtards.)

  • March 2, 2010, 4:46 a.m. CST

    Thanking Howard Stern

    by LethargicJ

Would be easier if he wasn't always so busy thanking himself. And I agree he deserves praise for what he did for radio. He did pave the way for a lot of people. The important word there is DID. His act simply grew old like it did for thousands of former great entertainers before him. He's become one of the old radio hacks he used to destroy. It's sad really. Ratings are good? Of course. His name is still Howard Stern. The name is still a draw and for some people that will be enough.

  • March 2, 2010, 5:45 a.m. CST

The reason to watch Stern on CBS Morning

    by orange84

Is because he will be the first really big player to completely bash Jay for the scumbag that he is. Oh, and here is some math for the haters, $500,000,000.00 / 5 years = big player.

  • March 2, 2010, 8:35 a.m. CST

    wow, what a surprise!

    by RedHorseVector

a lot of fanboys in this thread touting howard's salary and successes, but not a single person willing to defend the quality of his show. at least you're intellectually honest fanboys. the most entertaining part of the current show is listening to robin quivers' advancing mental illness.

  • March 2, 2010, 9:06 a.m. CST

    by orange84

When he busts the balls of his co-workers, it is the funniest thing on the radio. It was funny 15 years ago, it is funny now.

    Haters be damned!

    by Kevin

There are far too many people that would rather assume what Stern says on his show over actually listening to his program. Millions of people PAY to listen to his morning show with their Sirius subscriptions. Obviously, the man is interesting and has been creating an entertaining and relevant daily program for over three decades.

  • March 2, 2010, 1:07 p.m. CST

    What the...?

    by Roveache

Are you people serious? Stern's show is as good as it's ever been! The times change...but not the consistently honest hilarity. Many people think it IS worth paying a monthly fee to hear the most entertaining show in radio history...especially now that terrestrial radio is so abysmal. Nobody can capture a moment, or tell a story like Howard Stern can. And what's with all the ninnies still claiming he's a "shock jock" using "offensive language"? Come on people, this isn't the 1960's anymore. It's okay to hear on the radio what you're likely to hear in your everyday life. Sorry if a little honesty and humanity upsets your delicate sensibilities. And yes, that includes women on the sybian.

  • March 2, 2010, 1:56 p.m. CST

    Stern is lame.

    by DennisMM

O & A are lame. Rush is lame. Liberal commentators are lame. Talk radio of all sorts is lame. That includes morning zoo shows. Stern and his ilk are especially lame. If I wanted to listen to someone drool and fart and be vulgar for hours every day, I'd go find the nearest Tourette's patient. I listen to radio for music and news, and I won't pay for it.

    by hst666

You can rag on his sophomoric humor, anyone familiar with him cannot deny his interview skills. Primarily, he will ask about whatever he is interested in. In addition to sex-related questions, he asks tons of questions about uncomfortable subjects, feuds, fights, violence, sickness, etc. in a very straightforward manner that none of the rest of the entertainment media will. Is he 60 minutes? No. But his Paul McCartney and his Denise Richards interviews, for example, were each cited frequently by many legitimate media outlets.

  • March 2, 2010, 3:38 p.m. CST

    by Roveache

For people who insist on calling Stern "sophomoric": What and where is this brilliant, high-brow humor that you seem to think is so much funnier/smarter? And, in my opinion, anybody who uses the term "vulgar" is HIGHLY suspect. I refuse to believe that any rational thinking adult would be offended by words.

When Roger played his voice for his wife...

    by mraig

...if you didn't tear up a little you have a HEART OF STONE. The computer technology isn't perfect, but it's recognizably his voice, which hasn't been heard in years. <P> If you haven't read his blog, check it out. The writing has gotten more both sharper and more personal in recent years, as old Rog reminisces and muses about all kinds of things that have nothing to do with movies. I know some of it is political and not everyone has the same point of view, but for my money it's pure gold, whether he's talking about his alcoholism, reminiscing about his teenage days of trying to get lucky with a girl, or talking about American health care and attempts to reform it from the point of view of someone who's had treatments for cancer and had three failed surgeries attempting to reconstruct his jaw. <P> All well-written and right on point. He's truly one of a kind.

The REAL reason Stern Hates Leno.

    by Filmrage

Ok to start with, I'm no Lenophile but i'm an even lesser fan of bulshit so here goes. . . . . the real reason Stern hates Leno is this. Stern is a charismatic, intelligent, funny and brave presenter but he's also very insecure and has a significant amount of self hatred (the latter he hides in plain view). Even huge contrat payments doesnt convince him deep down that he is valuable so he needs sourround himself with people he deems even worse than himself. He could surround himself with quality people but due to his etreme insecurity and self hatred he only feels both safe 'and' valuable when he's surrounded with people whome he views as being more pathetic than he is. They may have some great tallents in some areas but the one qualification that is essential is that they have some characteristic that makes them a bigger outcast in Sterns eyes than he views himself to have; preferably this 'loser/disgusting' characteristic should be exploitable on air. . . . Now, Stuttering John Melendes was one such early acolyte and Stern enjoyed humiliating him and generally treating him like garbage despite also giving him oppertunity (albeit human dignity sold cheaply no matter the benefit). Now, along comes Leno who basically treats John with dignity and respect and gives him a high profile, well paid job on the Tonight show where he doesn't have to be constantly humiliated. I'm not saying Leno is especially kind, i'm saying Stern is a scumbag when it comes to his view of people, even the ones close to him professionally. Lendo just behaved normally, not saintly (in the case of John at least). Sterns default is to humiliate his staff/associates and treat them like garbage so that he can feel that he's not as bad. Leno's treatment of Jhon put Stern in stark contrast and exposed his true nature. This is the reason for the seething, black hearted hatred that Stern has for Leno despite all the faux reasons he gives.

Stuttering John himself was some of his pre-Leno segments on Youtube. Leno didn't treat him with respect, he was an announcer and nothing more. Leno used his notoriety from Stern's show in the hopes that it would gain some younger viewers...but John was neutered and not himself on The Tonight had nothing at all to do with respect.

    Filmrage...your analysis is idiotic

    by brabon300

part of sterns show has always been the members being allowed to riff on each other<p> as much as stern dished out, his staff would give back (until he hired guys like sal, who is just a kissass)<p> john had a major role in stern's success, with his brilliant on the carpet interviews with clueless and humorless members of the hollywood community<p> so what did leno do? he took john's character away from him...and now john is relegated to some dank backroom<p> stern said that he is happy for john...but he doesnt have to like leno for stealing away one of the major cogs of his show

    Look deeper Sternophiles

bullllll shit. You really fall for that crap about how everyone is allowed to riff on everyone else. If you listen very carfully you can hear a lot of tip toeing. Its only whe loose cannons like Arty got to the point that he didnt give a crap that even a bit of the real state of things came out. Stern putting people down and others putting each other down and having a go back at Howard is done in a very controlled way. Each person knows their positin in the pecking order and they all negotiate it very carefully while still giving the impression that everyone is free to speak their mind. I never said John was a saint either so him being a scum bag doesnt detract from my point. Howard hates everyone who leaves him because he knows that the only direction to go from the bottom is up. OK John might not be a pivotal character in the tonight show but I bet hes a hell of a lot happier and also richer. I personally consider Stern to be one of the greatest entertainers there is. I love his personality and style. I just dont like it when he obsesses on the more filthy side of sex and other fecal subjects. If someone would edit a no sex/shit sandwich couple of hourse of his show id probably download it and listen to it every day. Anyway just listen more closely to the show. Stern wants everyone to have as little dignity as possible. Look at Arty, Howard could see the trajectory he was on but it was good for radio and Howard loved it. He gave lip service to Arties screwed up heart and mind but also milked it for as much as he could get before the guy either ODed or dropped dead of a heart attack. As it went the guys soul died first so he tried to send his body in same direction. Im not saying it was Sterns fault but sitting their every morning having your garbage celebrated cant be good for the psyche of anyone. Howard is like many of the devils pied pipers. Hes a relativly decent human being him self but he revels greasing the slope for as many people as possible. Hes a relativist. He doesnt want to rise to the standard of any of his real peers so he surrounds him self with people who are as low as possible and tries to lure his audience as low as possible in order to effect a sense that his own level isnt so low after all.
