More rumoring stuff on DIE HARD 4'
Hey folks, I got the following letter in today and... I started going... What's up with this? Now, quite sometime back we heard he signed on to this.... or did we. My memory is playing tricks with me. So why am I posting this? Basically to shake the bushes... find out where things stand on this film that has had as many rumors as the average pre-Bond rumor mill. Let's get down to it.
Howdy. I'm a new fan of the site and I logged on to check to see if there was any new word on
Die Hard 4. I couldnt find any so I thought I might as well go to the source. So I hears that
while up here in Toronto, Willis signed on for $25 mill quid to do number four, as published in
that most reputable rag, The Toronto Sun. So what's up w/ dat? I assume it's true, but didnt
Willis swear off those killin' films?
Just wondering

I heard this as well.
-
I should have put a heading on that one.
-
I think they should've killed the series by the end of number two or numer three.
Hope they'll at least get a EVIL bad guy like Alan Rickmans outstanding performance in number one.
Regarding number 4, how about letting John Woo direct it?
PS. Wanna tell you a cute little story. When Die Hard (1987) opened I was 13 years old and thought it was a German action movie, DIE HARD (aka. The Hard).
Well...it wasn't.
By the way: What's up with LOTR and Peter Jackson. Have they started shooting yet?
-
i'm still hearing recurring rumours about ben affleck and michelle yeoh appearing in the 4th one, that would rule

I mean the third one was better than the second. (first is still the best) Which is good going the way such series usually get significantly worse each time. The producers obviously realised that the genre was too predictable when planning the third. Usually it's die hard in a confined space ie building, plane, ship, train. So they made it die hard in new york. Can't get much more vast than that. Anyhoo, once the writers aren't confined to a 'die hard in a supermarket' type scenario, the series should be worth another sequel.
-
I live and play in the non-shooting spree, pristine city of Toronto. I can attest after sleeping with Willis a record eight times while he was here that he will in fact star in Die Hardest: Somebody Kill Me.
Details were sketchy (talking while nuzzling does that) but he said he was getting paid 100 million to play the role of John the cop and...
What's that?
He "played" a character named Willis on TV?
But I thought?
I know Bruce Willis isn't black but...
But he said... ?
I've been lied to.
>sniff, sniff<

Eternal, have you SEEN Die Hard 2 lately? IT'S RIDICULOUS! Not only is the idea that the SAME THING could happen to the SAME GUY TWICE (on the same day? a year later? with his wife on the plane? and the same jerky reporter from the first movie? happens all the time, right?) simply ludicrous even by Hollywood's high standards, but McClane comes off like a big, dumb asshole. In the first movie, McClane was believably a victim of circumstances, and he fought brack with bravery and ingenuity. In the second, he's simply a meddling, self-righteous jerk- off, and the wider playing field he's on only serves to deplete the tension. And is it just me, or does that big airplane crash where loads of innocent people lose their lives seems WAAAAAAY out of place in a summer popcorn flick? Yeah, yeah, I know. It establishes that the bad guys are REALLY, REALLY BAD, but come on! Hey, listen, I used to love it, but I watched it again a couple years ago when I got the box set and was amazed at how poorly it held up. It makes #3 looks even better in retrospect -- and god knows, DH: With A Vengeance is a flawed picture with some of the same problems. But at least it's fun, and closer to the spirit of the first. A Die Hard 4 better have an absolutely knock-out script before they shoot a foot of film, and something tells me that ain't gonna happen. Yippee-Kay-Yay, indeed.

If ever there was a series of films that warrented sequels it would be the DIe Hard films. John McLean is a cop, therefore it is very plausible that he would go onto different cases and be put in different dangerous situations. The same is true of the Letahl Weapon films. It has never made sence to me when people say they shouldnt make sequels because "four is pushing it" or things like that. What about television? The average hit TV show has about a hundred plus episodes. You never hear somebody say at the end of the season, "Man, Babylon 5 was good but 24 episodes is just too many". Same is true true of movies. As long as the storytelling remains good Isay keep 'em coming, ANd in the case of Die Hard the stories have definatly been good.

This has the potential to be either a kick-ass action movie, or a colossal fuckup. I'm hoping for the former. I initially thought - bad idea - but then I remembered I thought the same thing for the 3rd one, and it was great fun, so. . . do not lose faith, my brethren. The sidekick will be an important part - Samuel Jackson was a neat new way to do it - not a cop, just an average Joe caught up in the middle. Fingers crossed. And for whoever ripped on Die Hard 2 as implausible???? Huh?? Like the first one was believeable? Lone cop takes down a dozen foreign terrorists, blows up a building a helicopter and god knows what else. . . you're willing to buy that, but not the second one. Hmm. . . and yes, a LOT of people died in the second one, but they're terrorists for god's sake. Whaddaya expect?

Firstly I know this is a really sad thing to say, but SSZero said Ben Affleck could be Bruces Son/son in law??? EH? In the first film, in 1988 only 11 years ago, Bruce had a son and a daughter both of which were like 4 or 5 or something! So That would work! Sorry. I don't like the Tom Cruise idea either. He's shit! The bad guy has to be either British or British pretending to be german for a Die Hard movie to work! Sooooooo, hmmm....how about Connery? He's cool. hed make a good baddie. Doubt hed do it though! Fromt he rumours Ive heard of this film so far, as much as i love the Die HArd films, they sound rubbish. On a rocket? in the jungle? can't remember the other one but it sounded pish!!
-
i dunno what half these people are talking about, its a movie , iots not real life who cares if its unbeleivable if this guy gets into all these crazy situations, he's not a real guy, he's just a charactor for us to watch for enjoyment to waste off another 2 hoiurs of our pathertic existence.
i loved die hard one as a kid watching john mc clane it helped me grow into the bad ass i am today, i thought part two was great, it was just like part one, it had it all, everything a person hot off of watching part one would want and part three was the best of them all, yeah the first was a classic and the stepping stone in these types of movies, but part three kicked ass, i dig em all and i cant wait to watch mc clane beat up the bad guys and shoot off one liners, or what ever they plan to do, in the next chapter, and the one after that.i agree with the two guys before me, theyre totally right.
but i dont really think we need ben affleck in this, amybe stick with the black dudes as the partner, it keeps a certain level tothe films, they all had black dude partners in em, (part 2 had the dad from CB4), and deffinately get john woo in therer, he was rumored for a while, that would kick ass, and make it take place in a mall, i have an outlined script idea for
it if anyone cares to hear.
yippie ki yay muthas. -
Harry,
I became familiar with DH4 due to a South American Indian actor friend looking for work.
I read some info from a couple of other movie news sites about the possible plotline. The original script is called "Tears of the Sun" by Ron Bass (Rain Man, My Best Friend's Wedding, What Dreams May Come)and Fox has owned it since 1995. One version out of several has John McClane(Willis) and his wife traveling to South America to visit his brother. The plane is also hosting a disgraced US. military general flying incognito. A group of South American political activists rig the plane with some biological toxin. The plane goes down and all the passengers are taken to a hidden compound. Willis must save the day before he gets too sick.
Ben Affleck is being courted to be Willis' sidekick again. The script is rumored to be rewritten by a British newcomer named Ben Trebilcook, probably to save money for the on camera talent. -
Since when was the Toronto Sun "reputable"? I think we've covered this before. Die Hard 4 WILL NOT HAPPEN. I will stop it myself if I have to. Stupid stupid stupid! Gah! I'm choking on my own rage here.
-
Well, Die Hard 4 better be cool, cause the last one SUCKED, due to the lack of good action (mostly explosions).
-
I say why not! They are always going to make action movies, why not make it with characters we like. Die Hard is a great franchise, make number 4! And while your at it, lets make Lethal Weapon 5!
-
It's like Toronto's own version of the National Enquirer. P.S How the hell do people get to put stuff like this useless crap. Why doesnt Harry put MY useless crap on?
-
Being in one building with that clausterphobic feeling is what made the first Die Hard the best film of its kind ever. The 2nd i liked, though not as much but the 3rd was pretty bad. It lacked that one location feeling from the first two. Also the script was pretty bad in part 3. Look at Das Boot, thats pretty damn exciting and it never leaves the submarine. The element of John Maclean beinbg stuck in one location adds to the excitement that he cannot escape.
-
The 'Toronto Sun' is a rag, pure and simple; I'm surprised they actually found room to put in some movie news, what with all the ads for porno shops, "hot date" long-distance phone numbers, strip clubs, and "Sunshine Girls" taking up so much space already. Don't believe anything you read in that lowest-common denominator "newspaper." It makes the 'National Enquirer' look like the 'Wall Street Journal.'
-
I hate to burst the collective bubbles of the two liberal pinkos who dissed the best paper in Canada, but the Sun kicks ass, plain and simple!
-
.... DIE HARD will be consistently played on Classic Movie channels, along with Terminator and Pulp Fiction! The future rules!
-
If you actually read what i wrote you would know i never dissed the Sun but disagreed with it being called "reputable". A cool paper, yes it is but the guy who said this obviously is trying hard to show us he actually knows what hes talking about.
-
It no surprise that anyone who uses the phrases "rocks" and "kicks ass" in the same post likes the Toronto Sun as well.
-
I think Canadian conservatives are probably really pissed at you now, for associating them with the Toronto Sun. It is a rag, no question about it. Every second page features gratuitous female nudity (so I guess it's worth a flip, but no more), the headlines are muckraking (reading it, you'd think Toronto was worse than Compton for violent killings) and for the longest time, Jim Slotek was blatantly stealing Harry's own columns. By the way, I think the original reviewer was being sarcastic when he called the Sun "reputable".
-
Bruce Willis' response to the question of whether he will play John McClane again while doing press for The Story Of Us. All he said was that he's learned that he should not say he will never play a character again because he doesn't know what will happen in the future, or something along those lines. Pretty useless if you ask me but I thought I'd put it here anyway.
-
I hope the news is true and this movie gets made. The first one was great, the second one was unbelievably cool and the third one was awesome. I hope they come out with another great plot and give Bruce another great challenge I also hope Holly McLane and Al Powell return. Man this movie will be a seriously wild ass movie this is one of the few series' that never seem to dissapoint. This movie will be one of the greater part 4's(there aren't many). Bruce Willis is leaving the action genre with a bang.
-
Someone please make a fourth Die Hard. The first three are action classics--and screw logic, I say. Since when have action movies been dependent on logic? McClane is a great action hero and Willis has held this series together--and it's always watchable. Still, a fourth would have to be something fresh--and I would wholeheartedly agree with bringing John Woo into this film. Remember the hospital scenes in Hard Boiled? Those were ten times better than anything in Die Hard. As for a villain--what about Jon Malkovich? And for a plot--well, how about something fun? What about an amusement park? Sorry, that was a dumb thought. Anyways, please make this movie.
-
Die Hard 17 was one of the skits on the Ben Stiller Show. It is set inside of a supermarket. "How could the same thing happen to the same guy so many times?"

Cisgere, I know what you're saying, but you're proving my point. Die Hard in a supermarket WOULD be a skit, not an action movie. I feel they need to stay away from confined areas and spread the action out like in 3. The whole small space thing has been done already by the first 2 and the under siege films. BTW the only thing 3 was lacking was a truly evil villian. Jeremy Irons couldn't live up to his 'brother' Alan Rickman. He didn't make me care one way or the other what happened to him. I didn't really give a crap when he was foiled in the end. As far John Malkovich, yes he could be great!

Brucie Baby is now reported by Ceefax in the UK as having signed for 25 million for the fourth Die Hard.
How about doing the next movie here in the UK. Bruce could be holidaying with his family in London.
Bruce could chase some uber-terrorists around the underground/tube/metro system to prevent some nuclear device exploding. Lots of opportunities to blow up historic London landmarks and maybe even have a boat chase down the Thames although maybe thats a little too Bond-ish.
Comments? -
There is absolutely no way that DIE HARD 2 is better than DIE HARD! Want to know why?? Bruce doesn't wear a vest in it. Pure and simple. Knocks the whole thing out of whack. We all know DIE HARD MOVIE = VEST = PHWORGHHHH!!! That's why DIE HARD 3 got better, cause they learned their lesson and gave him the vest! That's my opinion anyway!
-
actually, i believe "die hard 4" has been confirmed for quite a long time already. on corona, they report that "dh4" will be set in the jungle, where bruce willis and ben affleck and others have to rely only on their wits to get away from the bad guys. supposed to be very stripped down, no special effects deal. could be cool, we'll see.
-
a) The tears of the sun screenplay that has been mentioned as the basis for the new Die hard movie was originally going to be John Woo's first American feature. So, it would be great if he finally got to make it, just with John McClaine as the characters name instead.
b) Die Hard 2 is the best of the series. In response to someone way the hell up there, yes, he started out cocky, but that airplane crash was NOT just to show how mean the terrorists were, it was to put McClaine back in his place.
c) I never liked Die Hard 3. I felt it was very poorly edited, and I was very bored with the little logic puzzles that I already knew the answers to, and that they didn't explain very well.
d) Ben Affleck should be the VILLAN. he was GREAT as "the asshole from Fashionable Male". Could you see him as a terrorist?
-
Diehards 1 and 2 were great movies in my opinion. They involved very dangerous people doing very dangerous things- what you want in your normal action movie. However, Diehard 3 sucked. It became obvious that they were hoping to pump some life into the series with the addition of Samuel Jackson. "Hey, I KNOW, lets give McClane a buddy to fight the badguy with that has this racial chip on his shoulder. That'll be GREAT!!!!! The exchanges from these two will provide loads and loads of one-liners and comic relief!!!" Sure, a lot of the stuff between the two was humorous, but the movie was using a very tired, OBVIOUS ploy to liven things up. In addition,Jeremy Irons could have been a BADASS villain, he's got the poise and serious look for it, and he has a way of making his evilness seem almost nonchalant. HOWEVER, he was completely misused. It would have been so much better if he had seemed a bit more physically active- maybe doing a little hand-to-hand combat where he uses these very fluid, DEADLY moves, or even a little skilled gunplay, or sniping, just SOMETHING that made him seem like he could back up his demeanor a little more. Well, thats about it- hope all of this has spread plenty of HELPYNESS.
-
The third one sucked Big time. Is Hollywood that desperate for movies that they have to mail this franchise for more pathetic ideas?? Ben Affleck needs a better agent too.He picks horrible films to star in.
Id rather see sequels to good movies like Back to the Future or the little known gem, Innerspace -
it's a shame luc besson doesn't do the director for hire thing , because he'd be perfect for a well scripted die hard movie......remember the enclosed space action in NIKITA and LEON,(the professinal ,i think it was callled in america). plus he's great at getting good performances out of people is friends with willis , and best of all is like a brother to gary oldman, who is just about the best villain in the movies.(and one of the best actors as well.................oh and bruce willis isn't against action movies he just wants credit for his acting skills.and to do more
-
The last time any DH4 stuff was doing the rounds I remember like everyone else that Affleck was connected but also that McTiernan had been given 1st option and Michelle Yeoh was also being approached. How cool would that be,Bruce reprising old ground taking care of a young hot-headed partner even more die-hard than he is,while Michelle could play some lethal femme(not to much of a stretch)on the side of the angels/devils.Whoa! until I wrote it down I didn't realise how excited i could get about this.
-
I cant wait for another DIE HARD movie but all this talk about Jon Woo Tusi Hark or some other low grade Hong Knog B-Moive director is ludicrous the REAL appeal of the die hard movies is not their action sequences (which are always top notoch but rather its thier great script/diolgue and yes acting Bruce willis Johon Mclane in the first one is a total fuck up at the start of the movie...
