Live in Indianapolis? Capone has details on an advanced screening of Polanski's THE GHOST WRITER next week!!!
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.
It’s been since early November that I’ve been able to extend a screening offer to our friends east of the (Illinois-Indiana) border in Indianapolis. Obviously, it’s not entirely my decision when and what I get to offer you guys, but I do what I can. And this time I’ve got a critically lauded stunner of a film that just opened wider today (including in Chicago) and will continue to expand in the coming weeks. The film is Roman Polanski’s THE GHOST WRITER, starring Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall and Olivia Williams, and I’ve got 75 passes (for winners and one guest) to an advanced screening of the film on Thursday, March 4 at 7:00pm at the Regal UA Galaxy Theaters, 8105 East 96th Ave. in Indianapolis (the film opens in Indy the following day).
Here's how to secure a pass good for you and one guest: Send me an email at capone@aintitcool.com with the subject line "THE GHOST WRITER Contest" In the body of the email, I need your Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (guests' names are not required), and the answer to the following question (read carefully): "Whose autobiography would you like to ghost write, and why?" Keep your responses BRIEF--limit your answers to 50 words or less (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit). Winners will receive an email from me this weekend (I hope), and your names will be posted on the site.
Please keep in mind that this is not an exclusive AICN event, and it is slightly overbooked to make sure there is a full house. If you cannot arrive at this screening early, please do not enter. If there's even the slightest chance you'll have to back out of attending if you do win, don't enter. If you have a job that might make you late or unable to attend, or an ill/pregnant relative, or a temperamental significant other, or a scratchy throat, do not enter. Anyone not showing up without informing me ahead of time so I can fill their seats is no longer eligible for future screening contests.

the AICN people are pimping this film extremely hard considering it's not exactly a geek property, not exactly a relevant director anymore--and it comes with all the squalid baggage of being the product of a fugitive convicted child rapist. Polanski's people must be very persuasive in their outreach. There's no other reason a middling political thriller should get this much screen space.

...if Rush Limbaugh made a movie, and the reviews were actually good and it sounded like an interesting concept... I'd be curious enough to buy a ticket and see the movie. Cos this is the equivelent of bigging up Gary Glitter's new album. If Glitter's new record was as good as Sgt Pepper, I still would not buy it. It's... strange that this movie gets 5 reviews and none for Cop Out. I truly do wonder sometimes what the criteria is for AICN backing the movies they do and ignoring others. But honestly, I'd just like to see the movie because it looks like a good movie, and Capone is offering me that chance ahead of time and for free, so, thanks, Capone. You guys do what you feel but the notion that this contest "supports rape" is pure comedy, IMO. If you want to help make an actual difference, volunteer at a shelter or something. Internet protests are a joke and pure self-serving onanism (redundant?). 2 cents, I'll shut up now. -

does not lose sleep over this, just as long as people on the side of the fence that has a problem with AICN's massive support of this movie is able to have their say as well. Lately, AICN has been pimping specific movies so much that it seems obvious a financial agreement must have been made. BTW..I will post any response I get from Sideshow and certainly mention if I NEVER get one...I think readers should be aware if they are concerned about this or not.

If they don't get the invite, they don't go see it. Now, EBERT reviewed Cop Out, so it WAS screened for Chicago critics, so you gotta assume Capone WAS in the room (he's in the room according to that Esquire article on Ebert a few weeks ago). If he doesn't put up a review, and he WAS there, I'd think its pretty safe to say they don't want to talk shit about Kevin Smith.

I've been very upset with AICN over it's willful decision to not post a lot of the cool news that's happened over the past month (lack of news regarding Ian McShane in Pirates 4 and Mark Strong cast as Sinestro really annoyed me). I just love a good "everything is slowly going to seed!" kind of movie, and Polanski just happens to be one of the best directors of that kind of film.
