you have to be really hard up for excitement to get any lift out of this image. I tend to give AICN and its brethren sites a lot of leeway when it comes to "scoops" that only kinda-sorta are, but this one is toeing right up to that line.

and they tend to look extremely stupid without them. Remember those first batsuit ones against the white background with "teh puffy" look to it?
make sure they get some quality retouching first also. then release them.
You never get a 2nd chance to make a first impression.

Is that now considered the golden years of AICN? How about the AICN of 98,99,2000? And they were also posting "scoops" like these back then. They always have. People bitch that AICN is going down the drains all the time, but this is what its always been. Silly set photos like these, ridiculously impossible rumors, focus group screening reviews, news re-posted from other sites, some real scoops sometimes, and a whole lot of character. I don't know when this golden age of AICN supposedly occurred, since I've been here all along, and its always been the same.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply you said it was the golden age, but I wasn't sure why you pointed out 2006-2007. Usually people like to complain that the sites not as good as it was in the beginning (97-99), but 06-07 seemed random. But the reason there was interesting coverage at that time was cause there was a big, interesting movie coming out(TDK). That was the same thing that happened on this site during the Star Wars prequels and Lord of the Rings productions. But those period usually began with something like this, a mundane shot of a prop or a piece of set on a soundstage or backlot. That's always been the case here. One of the earliest articles I found at AICN was some shot from the set of Species 2.

It's Styrofoam which will be painted to look like whatever the fuck they want it to be. Ice, maybe. Rocks, sure. You wouldn't believe the amazing shit they made on the Lemony Snicket sets out of Styrofoam (and before you jump on me about the merits of the film, the prod design was UNREAL, and lots of foam was used).

Fake snow and ice may have worked in the 50's, but now it looks, well, fakey! Now, THOR is not set in the artic, so how much money would it take to go and do a 2 week shoot in, say, North Dakota or Canada in some real snow? I know its more money, but little touches like that make all the difference in a good film. Look at FARGO.
