International TOY STORY 3 trailers give us a bit more...
Hey folks, Harry here with a couple of INTERNATIONAL trailers for TOY STORY 3. I don't know about you, but I remember... back at the moment I first heard that they were contemplating a sequel to the original TOY STORY. I felt it was a folly. I mean, how could you top TOY STORY. At the time, TOY STORY 2 was heading to "Straight For Home Video" Then I read the script - the script was a thing of beauty and had to see theatrical release. Luckily the powers that be went that direction - and shockingly the resulting film was better in all manners with the original. And now we are in the opening stages of seeing the release of the third film.
The third of a trilogy. A cursed spot if there ever was one. Will it be as awesome as SON OF FRANKENSTEIN or RETURN OF THE KING? Or will it be like those other thirds... We'll see. Out of these two - my fave new glimpse is the bit about Ken being... well... you'll see.
and this one:
Not a lot of difference, but every little bit gets me excited for this...

Look at the part with the guys in front of the computer
by seppukudkurosawa
at 50 seconds into the first trailer here... It's Totoro! Sweet reference.
-
Not a great example of good final part.
-
Nothing about the trailers so far has excited me or made me laugh... Hopefully they're saving the good stuff for the full film...
-
It is Disney and they have beef with Alice. International trailer wont mean much if 5% of the UK draw is cut away by theaters. Looks good though.
-
Am I really that old (to paraphrase Buzz)?
-
guessing you weren't on the previous trailer TB then... ;)

Toy Story is way better. It is simple and beautiful with superbly drawn characters and archs. Toy Story 2 is a combination of more of the same plus much of toliet humour and in-jokes that paved the way for what would be a DWA staple. Pixar did them better but Toy Story 2 doesn't hold up in the classic sense as well as Toy Story. Plus TS2 has that hideous insipid song slap bang in the middle that derails the whole film for me. It does have slightly better animation but that's it. DWA's entire model is built on the back of TS2, Pixar's model has remained built on TS1. For this i am glad. Still can't wait for TS3, Pixar can do no wrong. Even their worst movies (Cars, Bug's Life) are better than almost anything else you see in modern cinema.

I agree with everything you said but in regard to bugs life its quite under rated story with good actors (Especially by todays computer animation standards) but Cars? what happened there? How was the concept even let go ahead? and a sequel on the way? whaaaaat?
-
Remember that crazy guy that posted a video where he ranted about how Cars was going to suck?
Turns out he was right?
I wonder what happened to him.
Mybe he killed him self when he found out Cars2 was on the way. -
As a member of Disney Movie Rerwards, they sent me a link to this trailer yesterday. I thought it was fantastic! Thank God John Lassiter took this project over. Ken and Barbie are going to be fucking hilarious!
-
Man Who Can - i'll be the first to admit Bug's Life is my least seen Pixar. I never really liked it that much and so never really revisited it. Maybe i'll give it another look. The Cars problem is John Lasseter's love for it. I went to a Q&A with him last year and he went on and on about how great the characters were and how he loved that world. It's his passion project so combined with the phenomenal merchandising Cars generated which legitimised a sequel to the board Cars 2 was sadly the most likely sequel prospect. All the Pixar directors say it's being allowed up to them whether to continue. So it's Docter's choice on Monsters, Inc and Bird's choice on Incredibles but Lasseter's on Cars. As for toliet humour in TS2 as asked about by Pasty the 3 immediately jumping to mind moments are 1 - Potatohead's extra pieces dropping out his back hatch in alarm; 2 - Bullseye rearing up too high and grining embarrassed into camera covering his privates and shuffling off screen; and 3 - the prospector letting one rip in his box "well, i guess that's why they call me Stinky Pete".
-
By that godawful trailer. Just NOTHING looked remotely interesting. And that Cable Guy is teh Jar Jar Binks of fucking Pixar. I HAAAATE his insipid, drool-slurping character. The story is awful, the characters are awful, hell even the ART of that film is pretty bad. If ANYONE other than Pixar made that film it would universally scorned. The fact is that kids love that piece of shit. Their too stupid to know how completely crappy it is. It's got talking cars in it, and that's all they need to know. That's fine, I can excuse that. But when I hear GROWN FUCKING ADULTS praising that steaming plate of diarhea.....I don't know how to even respond to that. That's like saying "I really like to stick my dick in decaying cat carcasses. Why can't I have my own opinion?"
-
...if he took his toys to college.
Unless, of course, Andy becomes a member of the GLBT club at school... -
So was Back to the Future 3.
-
It's funny isn't it. Toy Story was one Lasseter passion project and Cars the other. I don't doubt for a second his desire to make and love of each one. But when it comes to audiences, one is pretty much universally loved, and the other just sorta tolerated. Just think that's interesting how a filmmaker can have equal passion for each but hit with one and miss with the other.
On a worldwide scale (yes there's one outside the States), I wasn't surprised it didn't hit as much (well, on the Pixar scale) with people because it was the first Pixar film that wasn't universal in it's subject matter. Nascar isn't even loved by the whole of America nevermind the world. I'm sure that has something to do with the story of the second one. The other thing that annoyed me was that the stylised world where cars are alive and live in car-pun towns clashed awfully with "real world" locations like L.A. and Route 66. Why draw attention to the conceit like that? The whole "it's the journey dummy" theme would've been just as strong without the real world stuff. The billions - plural - that the thing has made with the toys is sorta mind boggling though...
But Fett, if you're gonna call kids dumb, don't ruin it by saying "their" too stupid. ;)
I love Bug's Life and think it gets a raw deal, sandwiched between two of their best like that. But then, Seven Samurai is one of my favourite movies so it probably appeals to me more. It does have a slightly more Warner Bros. (than Disney) flavour to it though, so maybe that's part of it, I dunno. But I love the Robin Hood Daffy homage. And Spacey is great, Heimlich is fantastic, Jonathan Harris and so on. Yeah Coyote give it another go. "Who ordered the poo-poo platter?"!
-
I think my hate was frothing over at that point. Trust me, I write a newsletter, I've been published in several newspapers, I know how to write. Now if we could only get AICN to add a fucking edit button...
-
I don't know you at all so I'm not judging you or making fun of you, but this is the greatest line ever if taken out of context.
-
I agree it and Bug's Life are PIXAR's weakest films. I've watched Cars probably four times now - I have kids, how can I avoid it? It DOES get better after multiple viewings, so I certainly don't consider it a pile of crap. They really just need to move forward with a sequel to The Incredibles. I can't believe they haven't been working on this already. This could be PIXAR's tentpole for the next ten years. So many possibilities.
-
But I don't get the Cars hate at all. When I first saw it, I thought it was OK. But after seeing it several more times, mostly due to my son LOVING it, I gotta say the characters are done very well. Cars is up there on my list of Pixar films, not at the bottom. People rip it for being a car Doc Hollywood. But so what? I think the story is good, the characters are good, the comic relief is good (there are a ton of subtle jokes beyond the obvious ones). I think a lot of it is the little blink and you'll miss it details that they added in as well. And the animation in the scene where Lightning goes on a drive with Sally is just stunning on BluRay, not to mention being excellent overall. Not saying it's the best Pixar movie, cuz it ain't. But I really enjoy it, and I don't even like NASCAR ... at all.
-
is actually more like a newspaper. When I was approached to do it, my thoguht was that it would be like every other POS out there. I agreed to do it on the condition that it would have in-depth articles that were properly researched and cited. That's what I've done with it and I'm pretty proud of what it is. But I understand how my statement sounded silly if you are thinking of the typical community center newsletter loaded with clip art, recipes, art projects and bullshit like that.
-
Was only giving you a little serve there! Yeah, it'd be nice if AICN came into this century. I get the point of those who say it'll cause people to pussy-out in the TBs or engage in a bit of the old revisionist history, but an edit function with something like a 30 second window or something to take care of those "D'oh!" moments isn't too much to ask!
-
Cars sucks. You are not entitled to an opinion contrary to Fett's. If you attempt to have one, then obviously you are stupid and do disgusting things to dead animals. Get over yourself. FUCK.
-
Was like a different movie. I wish the rest of it could ahve been like that because it had real character and scope and FUN! Aside from the opening in teh NASCAR race, this movie has no FUN. It's just Owen Wilson BITCHING for 2 hours. Oh GAWD!
-
When the hell are we getting an Incredibles sequel?
Actually, I would love to see an Incredibles sequel followed up a year or two later by a prequel. Show the supers in their prime. Could be friggin awesome. -
What....I can't have my own opinion?
-
I don't hate it, but boy, that second act!
Lamerz, it does LOOK great - I'm not one to buy things which are glorified tech demos but Holy crap, Cars on Blu... 55" screen, active LED backlighting - this thing looks pretty amazing - I cannot believe some of those crowd scenes where you can see every one of those tiny cars in the stadium. My God. -
Why can't everyone deal with the idea of leaving Incredibles a perfect jewel?
Bird has said he's not closed to the idea of a sequel, but will ONLY do it if his idea is as good or better. So if it never happens, I personally would rather it that way and get something NEW and fantastic from him instead. No sequel is no biggie to me, it's great as is. -
I actually bought it because it was the first Pixar Blu-ray. The transfer and audio were stunning and the interactive features were good too.I was hoping the movie would have improved over time but nope, still tubgirl quality.
-
Was a mouse pulling on a guy's hair to operate his arms. I would have preferred an Incredibles sequel.
-
... leave it the hell alone. Dreamworks is a prime example of not knowing when to stop. Being Pixar though, I have confidence that they would not do a cash grab sequel. Hell, based on Toy Story 2 alone, I don't think that they would do an Incredibles sequel unless they believed it was as good or better than the first. With the talent at Pixar, I think it could be done very well.
-
Where does one find polyester like that?!?
-
The thirds that suck are when the studios try a cash run to take advantage of the good-will of the second film, and rush out a film without quality control. Spider-man, Superman, and X-Men are all "3"s that feel that way. I think Pixar has waited long enough since Toy Story 2 that the new film won't be hurried crap. (If it fails to work, it won't be for that reason.)
-
When did Pixar start pandering to the lowest common denominator? They're better than this.
-
Even if people feel that RotK fell short (I still feel it worked despite its flaws), I think it did much better as a film than Pirates of the Carribean 3 and Matrix Revolutions, which were also in the "shoot more than film at a time" camp.
-
If you ever saw the original snow globe short, the mermaid was a big-tted hottie. That was unfortunately retconned so that now she's practically flat-chested.Also Woody had a pretty steamy relationship with Little Bo Peep.
-
Bird was brought in to fix Ratatouille, and he essentially made it his own, I think, but I dunno how drastic it changed (think of the changes made to "Bolt"). But it was not his project to begin with. He was the cleaner.
-
"Cars" is an almost exact retelling of the "Doc Hollywood" (Micael J. Fox)movie from 1991. Most people didn't much care for it, and those same people don't like "Cars"... i for one, liked Doc Hollywood, but, didn't care much for Cars
-
But he wrote the screenplay and directed the film. HE decided it was a story he wanted to tell so in my book that makes it his movie. That stomach-churning straining sound as that mouse yanks on his hair.....UGH!
-
First movie: kid gets a new favorite toy that makes his former favorite toy jealous; hilarity ensues. Second movie: Former favorite toy finds out he's a classic and need not be jealous of anyone, is overwhelmed by his own fame, then chucks it all to return to the child who loves him. Hilarity (and a few tears) ensue. Third movie: The child grows up and the toys have to adjust to a new life without him. Presumably, hilarity, tears, etc etc. Which brings the Toy Story series to a (hopefully) satisfying conclusion. See, all that is what makes Toy Story an actual STORY. It has a beginning, middle and an end. Like the original Star Wars, san crappy sequel. I'll be seeing this. Even though it'll feel like saying goodbye to MY childhood. A sort of it-hurts-to-laugh situation...
-
Put me down as also desirous of an AICN edit button. Clearly, my attempt to switch from caf to decaf is not going well...
-
Original Star Wars trilogy isn't the best analogy. Remember how many parts of Jedi were recycled or picked out of the bin from the first one? Jedi's like 2.5 or something. Death Star/Death Star 2, Cantina/Jabba's palace Leia rescue/Han rescue discarded Wookiee end battle/Reinstated Ewok battle...
-
...in the first Toy Story; they even show a couple examples in the first teaser trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPhse4WlgEA
Look for a) "What's his problem? Laser envy!" followed immediately by Mr. Potato Head making an unmistakable "jerking off" motion (although they have him do it behind his back). -
And the Kevin smith fat jokes are tired already ... Totoro reference was great .. I'll see it someday
-
"unmistakable"?! He's just pointing, thumb out, no repeated 'jerking' or anything. A moment before he was pointing at Woody with the same hand while talking to him. You need to have another look dude. "Having him do it behind his back" doesn't even make sense - maybe I don't have a dick like an Anaconda, but generally I don't think people wank behind their backs. And why WOULD he, seeing as Hamm wouldn't be able to see it and therefore wouldn't get the joke. Which doesn't even GO with the line, "laser envy" anyway!
I think you're confusing it with the "kiss-ass" joke scene from a few minutes before, with the lips on the bum. In the MOVIE that is. The kiss-ass comes a split second AFTER the 'hitchhiker's thumb' in the trailer, so I think you're running one into the other. Anyway, have another look (preferably at the movie NOT that sub-vhs shitty quality trailer where you can hardly see WHAT'S going on) and you'll see he's not 'jerking' at all. Cheers mate. -
...so I'm going to avoid it from here on out. I'm pretty sure Pixar could start advertising out of the blue a week before a Toy Story movie was released and still set (animation) box office records the next weekend.
-
(shrug) You may be right; I'll take another look at the scene in the actual movie to be sure. My point is still valid, though: Pixar included some amount of slightly-risque humor even in their earliest movies.
