Live in Chicago? Want to see an early screening of Martin Scorsese's SHUTTER ISLAND? Capone has the details!!!
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.
I’d suspected that SHUTTER ISLAND might be on the agenda for the most recent Butt Numb-a-Thon. Although the film’s release date had been pushed until February, the original November release made it clear that the film was completed, and I was eager as hell to see it. What I could never have possibly guessed is just how much of an utter mind-fuck of a great movie SHUTTER ISLAND turned out to me. It’s not that I haven’t learned to trust director Martin Scorsese over the years; I just didn’t know he was capable of screwing with me so completely and wonderfully. SHUTTER ISLAND isn’t a horror film, but it is horrific at times. It’s not especially violent, although the treat is always there. It’s loaded with suspense, mystery, emotional devastation, and psychological gymnastics. And I don’t think I’ll get much argument that DiCaprio has never been this good, and I say that as a fan of most of his work. But make no mistake, this movie will mess you up. Come fortified with a strong will.
I've got about 135 VIP seats to fill for the Chicago screening of SHUTTER ISLAND on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at 7:00pm at the theater in downtown Chicago (the exact location will only be given to contest winners). Be aware, this screening will be at a venue we’ve never used before, but it is in the city and very accessible to those taking public transportation or driving. Oh, and for this film, you have to be 21 or older to get into the theater. Sorry, not my rules, but they are the rules.
Here's how to secure a pass good for you and one guest: Send me an email at therealcapone@aintitcoolmail.com with the subject line "SHUTTER ISLAND CONTEST" In the body of the email, I need your Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (guests' names are not required), and the answer to the following question (read carefully): "What is your favorite film set primarily or entirely in mental hospital?" Keep your responses BRIEF--limit your answers to 75 words or less (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit). Since I’m anticipating a large number of entries, winners will be chosen based on originality. So if you select ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, odds are you won’t get in, less you sell me on why that is your pick. Winners will receive an email from me over the weekend.
Although this is not an exclusive AICN event, we will have the section of the theater devoted just to winners of this contest. It is extremely important that if you win, you actually show up. And if you say you have a guest, that guest better damn well be with you when you arrive. We don’t want to waste a single comfy seat. I strongly recommend getting to the theater early to get a good seat. If there's even the slightest chance you'll have to back out of attending if you do win, don't enter. If you have a job that might make you late or unable to attend, or an ill/pregnant relative, or a temperamental significant other, or a scratchy throat, do not enter. Blacklisting will occur for those who win and don’t show up.
Good luck, everyone!

IM ON FIRE

Nuff said.
-
The Vic. Only theater that won't allow under 21 year olds. Right close to the L but parking is a bitch.
-
That's the same day I'm going to see Sir Patrick Stewart narrating Oedipus Rex at the CSO. I didn't think I'd have to choose between Cpt. Picard and Scorcese.
-
Are you serious? Although the CSO is great, Scorcese kicks Cpt. Picards ass any day.
Also, The Vic is not downtown Chicago..maybe it will be at the Gene Siskel Theater or the theater at Navy Pier. -
SO tired of this trailer. However I'm reading the book right now and it's pretty good.
-
I bet it is at that new Showplace Icon theatre on Roosevelt. They have special VIP seating and the lobby lihnge serves drinks and is for 21 and over.
-
I mean lounge.
-
anyone else getting these mixed up?
-
I can;t possibly watch another trailer.Yes,it looks decent, but come on!
-
They already used The Vic for the I Love You, Man screening last year. It's at the new theater off Roosevelt called ICON.
