Some of the FANBOYS creators aim their 'sites' at the online entertainment journalism world with JOURNIES! Where's my cameo?

Hey, everyone. Capone in Chicago here. This is my fault for not checking my email regularly and posting this yesterday, when it was announced and popped up on a couple other sites, but I always like to trumpet when people we know who have their hearts and heads in the geek world get a project out of the starting gate. In this case, we actually have a film set in the geek world, the septic tank that it is. According to yesterday’s The Hollywood Reporter, our friends Kyle Newman (director and co-writer of FANBOYS) and Jaime King (star of such films as SIN CITY, MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D, and the upcoming MOTHER’S DAY) are producing along with Robert Sanchez a new film called JOURNIES for Death Ray Films, written and directed by first-time helmer Grant Boucher, whose background is as a visual effects producer, sci-fi writing, with a little bit of videogame design thrown in. Jaime King will also star in the fast-tracked JOURNIES, which follows an online journalist (King) who is granted an exclusive interview with a hugely popular Hollywood newcomer, and said interview somehow evolves into a date. If I had a nickel… Someone has clearly been reading my diary. I’ll admit, I usually wince when I see that a film or TV show sets out to capture the “younger, hipper, Comic-Con crowd” (as the press release on this film calls them/us), but the one thing I know is that the producers of this film pretty much exist in this world 24/7, as both readers and the people being written about. I can’t promise you they will capture the feel of that world, but if they don’t, it won’t be because they don’t know it intimately. You have to admit, it takes guts to make a film about this particular community considering how, um, vocal people will be if it feels inauthentic. I wish them well, and I’m still contemplating the offer to have Philip Seymour Hoffman play me in the film; I’m tempted to take the acting plunge, so I may just hold onto the role myself. My agent will contact you…
