I am – Hercules!!

Small-town soap “Friday Night Lights,” which concluded its fourth season on DirecTV Wednesday night, will not get a sixth season, according to Entertainment Weekly.

NBC Universal, which produces the show, has reportedly informed the series’ key players that the show will cease production permanently when shooting on the fifth season concludes in June. NBC execs, however, say no decision has yet been made on season six.

The fourth season of the show makes its broadcast debut on NBC April 30. The fifth season arrives on DirecTV’s 101 channel this autumn and NBC will likely air that same fifth season in early 2011.

    Cameron to direct finale?

    by rightarm4rosario

Looking forward to a 3-D Jason Street, and his quest to defend the Navi people from the Military Contractors, funded by Buddy Garrity. Look for the "Garrity Motors" Decals on all the military vehicles, and the kickass climactic battle with Tim Riggin, equipped with Dillon Panthers blue and white exoskeleton armor!!

Will Lyla Garrity win Street back. Will Matt Saracen be convicted of statutory rape off-planet? Watch the 3-D finale to find out!!!

Really? Of all the shows to use that on, you pick Friday Night Lights? I mean you could have at least used a sfx heavy show like Heroes.

Hey, I enjoyed both. And honestly? I WOULD enjoy a Cameron-directed FNL finale! Call me sick.

    NBC = Suckage!

    by rightarm4rosario

Wow - all the programs I've enjoyed on NBC have been cancelled. "Life" - awesome acting by Damien Lewis and great eye candy with Sarah Shahi = Cancelled!! Conan O'Brien = Shanghied and Cancelled and replaced with the Chintastic! Leno!! Now Friday Night Lights!! Eghh ... Well, at least they cancelled Journeyman. Though even Journeyman would be better than Leno. Maybe he can "zap" himself onto Leno's show a few months ago and talk Leno out of it ...

    FNL is not about sports

    by roustabout99

FNL could just as easily be about the chess club or school trivia team. FNL is about family, love, integrity, self respect, accoutability and learning self value within a group dynamic FNL uses football,it is not ABOUT football

    At least it got 5

    by i am_notreal

Five years is a good run. Long enough to tell an engaging, continuing story, short enough to go out before it's burnt out and all of the best characters have moved on. In fact, most shows lose it creatively around that 5-year mark.

    can't believe it got five

    by ryanbraun14

this was/is a great show. The way they answered the early question of 'How can this show keep going when the characters graduate? its not like every other season can be made without football...' They pretty much have an all new cast and it snuck up on me. The way they one by one worked the original characters off them show to replace them with new, just as compelling characters was nothing short of MASTERFUL. Friday Night Lights is one of the best written shows on TV and, for my money, the BEST acted show on tv. Every character is so believable and unique and they were cast perfectly. Riggins is a great character and they set him up to keep him on the show from day one 'texas forever.' I tip my hat to herc for recognizing a show that is not in the AICN wheelhouse.

    NBC continues to baffle me.

    by rev. slappy

Yeah, we should all be happy to have gotten 5 seasons when only getting one was a distinct possibility. But NBC had a great, Peabody winning show and seemed hell bent on not promoting it. Memo to NBC: you have a nationally televised NFL game on Sunday nights watched by tens of millions of people. Maybe promoting your show about high school football during SNF would be a good idea?

    by ryanbraun14

so, so true. its also kind of like FOX not giving Terminator SCC another season with a big summer movie in between seasons... can't say it would have worked (because that sonofabitch McG made a terrible movie about stuff NOBODY wanted to see, while (it seemed at times intentionally) the story was there, ready to be awesome, and would have been a layup. Instead, lets make the star a character nobody knows or wants to see! We have christian bale playing a movie icon? big deal, we'll make him a supporting character.)I"m still furious because they could have made an incredible movie, but it looked like they were trying not to... fuckin mcg

    Sucks, but....

    by cc0n99

Sad to hear S5 will be its last, but at least they're giving them notice well in advance so they can properly wrap up the series. Like FOX did with Dollhouse, they gave the series every chance to prove itself. Sure they could have helped by putting the shows in better time slots, but it is what it is and we wound up getting 5 seasons of a show that almost never got a second.

What the Hell does NBC have to offer?

    by jbs9200

What the Hell does NBC have to offer?
Half the shows on NBC seem to be in the infomercial ratings area.
Christ, they would do better if, instead of developing their own shows, they just picked up any canceled shows from the other networks.

    by ryanbraun14

thanks jaws8u... i had this feeling that i was forgetting some shows on NBC... i knew it wasn't just chuck... you're right, though--that's one hell of a two hour block of four shows. Howabout Parks and Recreation? It was the definition of 'meh' last year, but this year its really found itself--specifically the character of Andy, who has been an absolute riot after being 100% uninteresting and unnecessary. Community is the comedy i look foward to most every week... its so... charming

    by waspo

Cancel a show that isn't like anything on television, and don't promote it at all. I'm so sick of their crap at NBC. They end the journey of Journeyman, end the life of Life, and then tease us with short seasons of Chuck and Heroes... You know what, let them end Friday Night Lights it will just be another show in a long list of shows that have been given the shaft without any kind of promotion or quality.

    by jesiah

I saw Legion because of Palicki, and in a comic store I saw Minka Kelly in 500 days of summer. I've watched the first year, which was really good, I haven't had the time to watch year 2 even though I bought it because I'm so busy.
