Stan Lee Now Developing Superhero Series About Himself!!

Published at:  Feb 11, 2010 3:40:22 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Funnybook legend Stan Lee, co-creator of Spider-Man, Iron Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Daredevil, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Thor, The Avengers, and many more iconic Marvel Comics characters, is developing a TV series about what happens when Lee befriends seven stranded extraterrestrials and transforms them into superheroes.

The project, titled “Super Seven,” is being developed as an Archie Comics title and an “online property” as well as a TV series.

Lee’s other recent non-Marvel TV efforts include the reality show “Who Wants To Be A Superhero?” and the animated “Stripperella,” which utilized Pam Anderson’s acting talent without bothering viewers with the “Baywatch” star’s face or body.

I just can't image any new ideas for superheroes . I just can't see it. Even from someone like Stan Lee. I can see taking it seriously.

...... has he really not done this yet? Or...

    by jaka

...something like it? I mean, he's been in so many of his comic books already and created (with and amongst others) so many comic book ideas that it seems hard to believe that he hasn't already covered this in some way.

I love Stan Lee, but this is a dumb idea.

    by v'shael

He's not an actor. Even his cameos have become painful to watch.

And people give him too much credit when they say he was the creator of various titles. He was co-creator, and he never set out to make masterpieces.

No one asked Shakespeare to perform his plays, know what I'm saying?

Stan Lee's Greatest Power, According To -- DOOM!

    by v. von doom

Admittedly, this doesn't sound like something DOOM will be interested in. But Stan Lee never gives up; he just keeps popping out the ideas until one of them hits home. For every awesome story The Man has come up with, there are at least four or five lew-ZUR storylines/figures/villains you never heard of again. You know which ones DOOM speaks of!And Stan knows it, and keeps on going anyway, and isn't ashamed to continue cranking them out. It's worked for him for 50-60 years now, he's filthy rich, and he's having a ball! Why should he quit?

    by zargotron

Where he remade the major characters of the DC universe? That shit was fucking horrible. This will just be another failure for that lying, thieving, suck-ass hack. All his failures post-Marvel is karma paying him back for fucking over so many people like Ditko and Kirby.

    "Just Imagine" & Marvel/DC "Amalgam"

    by rightarm4rosario

Not that the Amalgam (Marvel/DC) comics had anything to do with Lee, but I enjoyed them. A fun thing to do. And I bought more of those than the "Just Imagine" books. I think Lee could write something crappy, if Paul Pope or Mike Allred or Jeff Smith illustrated it, it would still be cool, and sell like crazy! But yeah, his recent work isn't up there with the Hulk, FF, etc ...

Lee, Hefner, West. Holy shit, could you imagine the awesomeness?! Bring in Bob Barker, the corpse of Ricardo Montalban & William Shatner as their arch nemisisses(ses?) and you have one for the history books right there! Epic battles between Playboy Bunnies & Barker Beauties, Shatner & Lee engaged in a battle of wits, and West & Ricardo's corpse in a staring contest.... EPIC!!!

Stan may be full of himself, but why not?

    by rsanta74

I mean, he doesn't exactly have the market cornered on the creation of all of the Marvel greats, but he's the only guy stepping up to the plate.

Kirby is dead. Ditko has shunned the spotlight. Marvel needs that figurehead. They need the face of the Silver Age. Lee, as a former EIC and co-creator has every right to swing his dick like king of the pride.

So what if he's fuzzy on who created what small detail on what character 50 years ago? The man is 87. I don't exactly expect total recall.

Even when he does overstep his bounds, at least he's not an asshole about it. It could certainly be worse. He could be like John Byrne, who has a notoriously bad online reputation for shouting down his detractors and getting insulting. When Lee commits a faux pax, at least he's a bit more graceful. If he's been a jerk then I haven't heard about it. (Then again, who isn't a jerk at least once or twice in their lives?)

Is the "well dry" with Lee? Sure. The man was at his creative peak 40 years ago. His use of slang and knowledge of current events pretty much ended at the end of the Vietnam War? However, similar comparisons can be drawn with any old person. Ask your grandma who Lady GaGa is. Even better, if she knows, ask her to recite the lyrics to Poker Face and be prepared not to laugh too hard.

Stan Lee is dated, but that's kinda okay. Marvel rolls the guy out when they need a bit of nostalgia or something that feels retro. They stick him in some movies just because it cracks the geeks up. Kinda like a nerd version of Where's Waldo.

At least Lee has not deluded himself into believing that he is vital to the industry or that his work is still socially relevant. Lee has moved into the elder statesman role.

Again, it could've been worse. Just look at Chris Claremont. The man is stuck in an endless loop of trying to relive his past creative glories. For him, it is still 1980 and he's still on Uncanny X-Men. It's kinda sad. Marvel still gives work to him because his name still sells. Not because the quality is good.

For Lee, in addition to his legendary status, he still gets work because his stuff is so outdated that it's now kitschy. Some people dig that.

if it were just that only today lee took more credit for marvel than i would agree prob is, it wasnt until he was in his 70s and kirby was dead, that he acknowledged the what role kirby played, this despite the well known fact of creating comics "the marvel way"

    Lee always acknowledged Kirby

    by cymbalta4thedevil

Some of their comics have Kirby listed as Co-Plotter as well as Artist back when they were doing them. And Kirby (and Ditko and many others) may have had more to do with Creating the Characters visually than Lee, but Stan the Man gave each one a distinctive VOICE.
