* The Super Bowl overtook the 27-year-old series finale of M*A*S*H as the most watched U.S. TV program ever, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Roughly one in three Americans watched the match. No word on what the other two in three Americans were up to Sunday.
* “Undercover Boss,” which followed the game, was huge as well, dwarfing the 11.8 rating scored by the season premiere of “American Idol” as the top non-sports program of the season. The second episode of "Boss" airs this Sunday right after the season premiere of "The Amazing Race."
* Don’t let that low score for “Big Love” fool you; HBO renewed it for another season this week.

* Fresh from its Super Bowl promos, “Big Bang Theory” hit another all-time high. As James Hibberd points out, it’s pretty dang rare for a scripted show to hit a 6 in 18-49, though episodes of “The Simpsons,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “House” surpassed that mark it this season.
* “Two and a Half Men” hit its best number in three years.
* “24” hit its first uptick of the season, rising to a healthy 3.3 on the back of a resurgent “House.”
* “Castle” slipped a bit but still looks good for a third season.
* “Chuck” continues on a nasty downslide with a sub-“Parks and Recreation” score of 2.2. The secret agent dramedy looked like a lock for renewal two weeks ago but seems on much shakier ground at this level. Hopefully fans will remember it’s still on when it returns post-Olympics.
* The big season finale of “Heroes” failed lure old fans back. Greg Grunberg thinks it’s coming back next season. It looks to me like we won’t get to see Hiro suffer the abuses of a World War II U.S. internment camp next fall.
* New dramedy “Life Unexpected” continued its steady slide, now into the CW’s lower realms.
* As MTV’s “Buried Life” slides, the Tarrant County teen soap “My Life As Liz” earned an uptick.
* Leno’s appearance with Letterman and Oprah on the Super Bowl telecast did nothing to help his show. Its penultimate episode matched the series’ Monday low in 18-49.

I certainly don't know anybody who watches it anymore.
-
How many bad days can one guy have?
-
I'm amazed it took Charlie Sheen this long (six years into his sitcom) to screw up before he might have to go to prison again!
-
Chuck's been solid and just as much fun as the previous seasons episodes were.
-
I watch HEROES. It's one of the better seasons. I hope they get another year. But if they don't, then the show ended nicely.
-
Do I have to change my
browser settings for the ratings to be more readable? -
Chuck was a great show while the tension with Chuck and Sarah was blooming. It seems they have reset that whole storyline, and it's not for the better. It actually reminds me of Ed, another show that was great until they they stretched out the romantic storyline too long without resolution.
-
Did I miss a rumor or something? I still watch the show, and I haven't heard anything about that (though Hiro did entertain the notion of going back in time about 50 years).
-
I think that herc meant that at the end of the season since Claire finally revealed to the whole world her abilities, the cast may be placed in some sort of internment camp for those with abilities. That's of course if there's another season. Problem is, with all NBC shows with low ass ratings there is a good chance it may come back for another season. That kinda sucks, because I actually liked Robert Knepper as Samuel Sullivan, and he's finally another villain who doesn't die at the end of the season. It's funny, because I think this season should have been what they did for Season 2, but they waited far too long and lost everyone. Oh well. I can watch Smallville to show heroes actually use their powers and wear costumes. Absolute Justice Rocked.
-
I think NBC may be too prideful not to let Heroes get a proper burial with a short order, which they can promote the hell out of as the final season....too bad the show's been dead for a long time.Had some fun times with 24, but the world will survive without Kiefer's broken record playing for another season.Chuck is great fun in the moment, but like those old series that they now make movies out of, the nostalgia will be better than the real thing actually was.
-
when they moved House to its time slot. Man, I loves me that show.
-
since just before the end of season 1. 24 is constantly entertaining. Shutupfanboy - you should really listen to the advice given out in your own moniker.
-
I watched the first couple of episodes this season, and then just kinda stopped. I haven't missed it. It's goofy affability only held my attention for so long.
-
You have been kinda a good show.
-
A generally cohesive storyline with Robert Knepper making a potentially lame central villain pretty interesting. And at least they had to sense to scale D'ohinder back to little more than a guest-starring appearance.

Heroes ended perfectly but if they do the next chapter...
by thecomedian
I hope they go the route of making Claire and some of the heroes public celebrities and actually embrace the superhero aspect only have it be a front for yet another clandestine shadow plot. They'd basically do "Superheroes in the real world" and it's consequences in the tradition of Watchmen, Supreme Squadron etc. Hell you could have Sylar become Superman as far as the rest of the world is concerned meanwhile all the other heroes know the terrible truth of his past and are waiting for the other shoe to drop as it inevitably will. But yeah, I'd like to see them wrap it up with a deconstructionist riff on popular heroes like The FF and the Avengers since they've mined the X-Men story mine to death.
-
Hadn't considered that interpretation, but it makes sense. So thanks.
-
Chuck has been consistent with a 2.0 to 2.1 rating. Only once has it been higher. How is it continuing on a downslide Herc? Chuck, if anything, is stable in the ratings. It's done a lot better than Heroes, so I think the execs will give it another season. Chuck is one of my favorite shows, but the only problem I have with it is that bringing in Brandon Routh and Kristin Kreuk has hurt the flow. For some reason, Brandon Routh has the ability to suck up anything he is in.
-
Not that I need another weekly talkback to kill time in, but it's a great show that seems to be overlooked on this website.
-
I'm guessing House isn't geeky enough to warrant a TB? But I'm right there with you. It's one of my top favorite shows.
-
With the whole Brandon Routh-Sarah storyline. How the eff do you set up this unrequited love subplot tension for two seasons then move both characters on to other love interests so precipitously? There has to be a better way to draw the tension out without pawning your two love interests off on other characters. I mean, have Chuck "change" in an effort to win Sarah/be the agent, but this pushes her further away. This other shit with Routh and Kreuk (though I love 'em both) essentially invalidates that unrequited love that the audience has invested in.
-
Ending. Period. That would really make me happy. "Heroes" is the girl you always wanted until you get her and find out she's vapid and not too bright. A wasted fucking opportunity that makes me sicker than no opportunity at all.
-
was great. I had marked this show as dead last season. But this season, for the most part, built slowly, took time to build its characters and mystery, and actually made me care about the characters and the franchise. Sure, there were some missteps, but I'd love to see another season!
-
Actually gave a good look into the redemption of almost everyone on the show. One more season would allow for syndication so my guess is one more and moved to a different night.
-
"Greg Grunberg thinks it’s coming back next season. It looks to me like we won’t get to see Hiro suffer the abuses of a World War II U.S. internment camp next fall."I interpret that as him saying Greg Grunberg thinks it will be back but he (Hercules) doesn't. Herc saying "It looks to me like we won't get to see..." after the "thinks it's coming back" makes me think he's making a prediction which is contrary to Grunberg's. Of course, anyone who actually paid attention to the episode above a passing glance, knows that Hiro won't be going back to 1944 even if the show comes back next season. **Spoiler** Hiro decided not to go back and save Charlie after all.Maybe Hercules is being intentionally vague so he can claim, regardless of what happens, to have "called it". If Heroes doesn't get renewed, he can say he predicted its cancellation back in February; if Heroes comes back, he can claim, despite what we will see, Hiro not showing up in a WWII U.S. internment camp as proof of his prophetic prowess.
-
heroes target audience doesnt watch tv on tv anymore if renewed, the only way the show will make money is with product placement...and lots of it
-
I get the feeling there's a very simple explanation to all this, but because I can be a rather literal bastard, I took Herc's comment for being way more than it was intended to be.
-
That's not saying... really anything, but still. Ever since that wet fart of a first season finale, we've known not to expect much from a Heroes (anti)climax. But this week really surprised me. I uttered the word "Whoa" for the first time since "Cold Snap."
-
Yeah, it was early in the morning for me, but i took it literally myself. I agree with the way Herc may spin it, but I do think they'll be back for 1 more season, and then end it since once they hit Episode 100 they can go to syndication and make more money for NBC that way. That's probably going to be the only reason it returns. Having said that, I enjoyed this season quite a bit. Far more than any of the previous seasons. Hey, Peter actually gets to have a showdown with the bad guy and use powers and...win. I'd love to see Samuel Sullivan return, especially since Claire did to a lesser extent what Samuel wanted anyway.
-
"Redemption" my balls. What started out as a solid setup with an interesting new villain degenerated into melodramatic drivel over the last 6 episodes. And thanks to this AV Club interview with Tim Kring (www.avclub.com/articles/tim-kring,37975/) we now know why Heroes sucks such epic ass. The bullet points: (1) They only plan FOUR episodes ahead instead of sketching out an entire season, and don't bother with a troublesome "bible" to maintain consistency (2) Kring explicitly states they will NEVER kill off any of the main characters, so basically the show has no tension because all your favorite protagonists are never in danger, and (3) Every problem with the show is somebody else's fault. This douchebag passes the buck more than your average politician. Fuck you Tim Kring and fuck you Heroes, you're dead to me.
-
THE BIGGEST THAT YOU SEEN THUS FAR
-
I will not miss Heroes if it goes away for good. The show has absolutely NO balls and almost always pussies out when you expect some kind of payoff. Before the last episode, you see the multiple man about to square off against Sylar and Peter, and the next episode picks up with some of his clones about to fuck parkman up, then you get them all disappearing because yeah, Peter and Sylar subdued multiple man. I would have liked to have SEEN them kick his ass, but no. This is one of the few gripes I have with the show, and yeah, I know it's my fault for continuing to watch but I'm a fucking completionist, sue me. I somehow watched Prison Break through to the end too, but at least it had redeeming shit like Michael Rappaport's "YOU'RE A WHORE" rant (youtube it, search "you're a whore"). For fuck's sake, either end Heroes or bring in someone else besides the current shitty showrunners.
-
I'll read that interview later, but if you interpreted it correctly (and I'm assuming you did), then...damn. Not plotting episodes that far ahead works if all the episodes are disconnected, Twilight Zone style. But for something like Heroes, it's (1) a mistake, and (2) explains a lot.
-
if they fired Kring and brought in someone to take over the show who would plot a season from start to finish. If NBC had a single sensible executive, Kring would have been fired long ago, and certainly would have been fired seconds after any one of them read the AV club interview...assuming an NBC exec can read.
-
I read the interview with Kring and that was a frustrating read, and so was the last third of this season, minus the finale. Overall, I was happy with the season, it was entertaining and I had some wild theories going between the episodes. (yes I like the experience of watching it on TV to help ratings, and to make my own theories/predictions for a week, and listen to the 10th Wonder podcast!)
-
This is one of those shows that lasts for years and years and somehow makes no impact on anything or wins any awards or acclaim. Kinda like the horrible Home Improvement, which was on forever yet made no lasting impact or contribution to comedy. Obviously somebody is watching this show, no idea who. I've watched several episodes without so much cracking a smile or remotely liking any of the characters. Maybe it's just me.
-
and that the only interesting thing was claire redux of her first scene, which makes for a great series end let heroes be a warning to all networks...do not do a comix related project with a show runner who states that he never read comix as a kid
-
You can tell that the writers really don't give a shit and just let things happen on that show with no rhyme or reason or explanation. You have to constantly assume things or make shit up yourself to explain their terrible planning and writing. How the HELL did Eli get to the Carnival when it moved from LA to NY? How the hell does the carnival move at all? I guess you can use your imagination to dream up a carnie that does all the teleporting of shit for them, but why should I have to? Maybe Eli got teleported, maybe he caught up with Peter and Sylar and there was a whole scene of them making up since he was newly brainwashed. WHO THE FUCK KNOWS? THE WRITERS APPARENTLY DON'T.
How did Tracy and Noah's old partner figure out that he and Claire were buried alive? That would have been nice to see, since you were left wondering "I wonder how they will be found" during the cliffhanger from the previous episode. Guess what, the writers know their audience doesn't give a shit about continuity, so we'll just have Tracy bubble in and save them!
Hey Hiro, you just had motherfucking BRAIN SURGERY! I guess you don't need any bandages on your head though, and it's time for you to running off with Ando!Hey look Peter's fighting Samuel in the most unclimactic way possible! Oh, and now Samuel doesn't have ANY of his powers anymore, even though we've seen him use them to kill people when he wasn't around that many specials in the past episodes. WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE PAST EPISODES, the writers would say to that. Heroes is definitely one of the worst genre shows I've ever watched. -
I played God of War II. Much more exciting.
-
of what went wrong with this show. Out of nowhere he turns good at the last second with no reasoning at all. I won't even get into Sylar cause I like Quinto and it makes my stomach hurt.
Anyone got news on Heroes: Origins? -
multiple man didn't turn good with no reason. Parkman raped him in the brain after Peter and Sylar left. That was one of the few things that happened that did have an explanation. I'd tell you to watch it again, but I'm anti-torture.
-
Initially I had a positive reaction to the finale, but upon reflection I think that was because the episodes leading up to it were so abysmal. The only part I found truly satisfying was the Hiro/Charlie subplot resolution. But the rest is just another story replete with the same massive flaws that have plagued Heroes' last 3 seasons. We get lazy writing (Aquabitch saves Noah/Claire then conveniently goes away, Multi-man's change of heart), blatant inconsistencies (Puppetman couldn't control Sylar last season but now he can, Emma had to concentrate on Mr. Miracle-Gro to summon him but now can summon thousands simply by playing, Samuel destroys a mansion and a town without any other "specials" around but is completely neutered when his "family" is taken away here) and insulting logical fallacies (everyone's ability to travel to Central Park in mere minutes, Claire's speech that she could have given 3 episodes ago, Hiro attempting to teleport dozens of people instead of simply stopping time and teleporting Samuel to the South fucking Pole). And don't get me started on that pathetic duel between Samuel and Peter, wherein they push a small pile of dirt back and forth at each other. Seriously, that's the most exciting thing you could think of? Kring & Co's lack of dedication to any semblance of consistency in this show is insulting. Renewal or no, I'm through being frustrated by Heroes.
-
You've got an emmy winning show with some of the most compelling plotting on tv, and it gets fucking beaten by Cake Boss, and some things called "Kell on Earth" and "My life as Liz"??? Seriously, what the fuck ARE those shows?
-
It would be a top 15 show on TV. Truth. Sad to see it fell so far. Too far to come back. This would be a great start to a Season 3 coming up.
-
Volume V would have made an excellent Volume II. Very satisfying, and no loose ends for those who paid attention. A use was even found for Ando's odd ability. And finally, the butterfly effect was given more than lip-service (the fact that thousands would die with any change in history, however otherwise beneficial).
-
When Chuck turned down Sarah at the train station in the season 3 premiere, of course that would lead to them seeing other people. Does he expect her not to have any boyfriend for years until he's done being a spy? The whining about it by entitled fans is absurd.
Having said that, Routh is a bit bland. Hannah though is a fine addition to the cast. Most of all the show just needs more Jeffster. -
... but it's just not being realized. Granted, some of my favorite parts of the show were the ones that seemed to turn off most people (I loved the whole "Arthur Petrelli has a ton of powers" arc). One mistake they keep making is trying to have some overarching plot that at least tangentially involves everyone in the large cast. Why not tell smaller stories without having to have them touch upon every single character? Unlike Lost, which does great with characterization but is primarily about the gigantic mystery/mysteries connecting everyone, Heroes isn't stuck with having to tie everything together - it's just a show about people with super-powers.
The potential is nearly unlimited - comic books have told countless stories about just that since 1939 - there's no way anyone could run out of ideas for a show with such a basic premise in only a few seasons.
The carnival thing just didn't work for me, and with the way the show is structured now we were all stuck with it for an entire season. With a less "one big central plotline"-centric format, that wouldn't be the case and just one or two bad ideas or missteps wouldn't sink an entire season the way they seem to do now.
I do love the "Sylar as Superman" idea posited above, though - I hope to see something like that. Heroes doesn't have to die - its premise can allow for so much more. -
Where did you get the idea that the "multiple man" had a change of heart? It seemed rather obvious to me that Parkman/Sylar/Peter used their mental powers to get him to do/say what they wanted. Maybe that didn't happen, but it'd be pretty stupid writing if that's the case.
I do hate how the writers seem to forget about Sylar's powers all of the time. I can appreciate how difficult it is to write a character with all of those abilities (which is why I understand why they limited Peter, even though I've always loved the "multi-powered" types of characters). How many times have we seen someone walk just out of normal earshot to whisper something that they didn't want Sylar to hear while anyone who has a decent memory must've been thinking "he can hear you - he has super-hearing, remember????"
I guess it hasn't come up, but have they forgotten that he can turn things into gold, too? It seemed like they could have fun with that. -
and i kept waiting for him to turn around and make kate and claire get naked and start making out....but no diceand heroes has absolutely no potential...it was totally fucked when they again switched sylar from evil to good sylar aint magneto, who killed because he had to, and had a real backstory of being persecuted...sylar is a psychotic killer, who needs to be punished...i dont give shite if little girls find him sexy
-
You'd think they'd keep a list of all the powers Sylar currently has, but I do have to say he doesn't have super hearing anymore as whenever he received the Shanti virus he lost that ability as well as the others he gained in basically the first two seasons. Would be nice to have a callback to Bob though.
