THE GREEN LANTERN's Villain Gets A Daddy!!
Merrick here...
Tim Robbins is joining the cast of Martin Campbell's GREEN LANTERN, which rolls in New Orleans 'round March.
Robbins will play Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of the movie's villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), who becomes infused with psychic powers.
...says THR HERE.
The THR piece recalled that Robbins also appeared in another comic adaptation called HOWARD THE DUCK. God willing, this'll fare better. It almost has to, doesn't it?

Fuck Ya!

in my book
-
...this would be a fucking hard comic property to make a sensible movie out of. Yet i'm all for throwing caution and logic at the wind, so all the best Mr. Campbell!
-
will be the greatest super hero movie of all time. It has the potential to grow into a lord of the rings sized franchise. Not right away, but one day I’m hoping to see a “Blackest Night” trilogy.

I'd really like to hear the AICN geeks' take on this Daredevil reboot that is ramping up with a new screenwriter (Day the Earth Stood Still remake).
-
He had to drive his 14 year-old son to soccer practice earlier. Until that kid can drive, Merrick's not going to be 100% ours.
-
Always thought he had the best color scheme of all the superfriends.
-
But what about the rest of AICN editors? Is it only Merrick's job now?
-
Just remembered why I liked that movie - because we got to see the main character beat Tim Robbins to death with a shovel. This type of scene should be included in every Hollywood release, it instantly makes any movie better! So does Ryan Reynolds get to beat Tim Robbins to death with a shovel in this one too?? (crossing my fingers!)

Herc has Coax news, which he sticks to 99% of the time, unless there's a crossover story, like today's 24 movie news. But Quint, Harry and that guy who likes rape movies (his name escapes me at the moment) are more Features writers. And then there's the Irish Rican, who is shoveling driveways in Philly as we speak.
-
dont jinx it.
-
He will eat your face off.
-
I can't seem to find him listed on IMDb, but wasn't he supposed to play Howard Stark? Dude is all about being a dad in a comic book movie lately.
-
Sensing fail here.
-
Seems to rush the story to make him the villain right off the bat
-
First they aren't making Sinestro the villain and now this shit? I think my interest in this movie just completely died.
-
Make him CGI this time, with Howard trying to revive his reputation after Hollywood destroyed it. Throw some rants about Lucas and midgets in duck-suits in there... Get scenes from everyone who has ever had an epic flop. Warren Beatty for Ishtar, Kris Kristofferson for Heaven's Gate, Ben Affleck for Gigli, Kevin Costner for the Postman, Roberto Benigni for Pinocchio, John Travolta for Battlefield Earth... just go to town on Hollywood and adaptations and special effects extravaganzas. Just a bitter, angry, ranting duck movie.

He's got more time on his hands now that he don't got that sweet
by linguo_is_dead
Seriously, Susan Sarandon makes my dick hard!!!!
-
But this just leads me to believe he plays "dumb" better than he plays "smart". Damn I miss cute/ pre-botox/ non-Joker Meg Ryan.
-
. . . before posting. Sinestro will be set up to be the villain in the sequel. Looks like Martin Campbell would have gotten Iron Man 2 right and featured the Mandarin.
-
What? He doesn't deserve the love of a REHTAF, or a DAD...Oh, wait that doesn't work.
-
Nice is right! Relax people! It's an ORIGIN story therefore Sinestro is NOT the villian right away. You can rest assured that his downfall will be a subplot of this first movie but Jesus, you don't want to blow the load of your entire frachise right away!
And love or hate Robbins (I like him), the father of Hector Hammond can't be a very sizable role so I don't think the movie hinges on Tim Robbins. The movie will rock and if you're not interested, good. One less person in line! -
Green L all bout the bling.
-
It's true.
-
Use GL as the shoehorn into the DCU. Cameo Superman, Flash, and other characters like The Atom who would never get their own movie. DC knows how to properly nurture a franchise (Harry Potter), and they need to use GL to build a Justice League the same way Marvel used Iron Man to build the Avengers.
-
Stark's dad is being played by Roger Sterling himself, John Slattery. A+ casting there.
-
Aint it cool news found on other websites.
-
And yes, Robbins sucks. He and Sarandon deserved each other. Idiots. In unrelated news, I like Reynolds, am looking forward to this. Not sure why they don't start off with Black Hand or something cooler than Hammond, though.
-
it's Green Lantern. One franchise that was never made for the big screen because the concept is, well...it's about people with super-powered jewelry.
Total flop, people. Total. -
...is that the diversity of alien life on OA better fucking put Pandora to shame.
-
Seriously. It might've been "okay" until Robbins character did his Brando Godfather impersonation... in the 50s... fifteen years before the movie came out!
-
"Meat" in Bull Durham.
-
Nah, just kidding. I could give a fuck for his politics; he's a solid actor.
-
damn straight
-
Hope this doesn't hurt a Deadpool movie, which is the superhero flick I really want to see Ryan Reynolds in.

He is one of my all-time fave characters! I like Tim Robbins as an actor, but I couldn't be much more opposed to his declared political stances. The guy is a real schmuck politically. Then again, so are a lot of Hollywood actors.

Father of the bad guy dies 30 pages into the script

Uggggggghhhhhh...
I mean, so far they've only hired a writer. But, it's a bad writer, and that really doesn't bode well for the rest of the production.Dear Regency/Fox,Daredevil is Marvel's Batman, therefore it could be YOUR Batman given you put some money and talent behind it. Think about it. Do you want a piece of that Batman money and success? Well, you have the franchise to do it. Now it's up to whether you make good or bad decisions moving the project forward. The writer you hired, bad decision. You're 0-1 thus far. -
Oh yeah, good point. Maybe the first movie will have Sinestro as a Green Lantern, maybe going bad towards the end?I tell you what, though, if they don't let Geoff Johns and/or Tommasi write this film, they are out of their goddamn minds. Both of their work on the GL books are friggin' AWESOME and some of the best comix out there... least ways, easily the best that the Big Two have had to offer in years.
-
While thematically and tonally correct, Daredevil will never touch the tip of Batman's dick when it comes to worldwide popularity.
-
There is no "Maybe". Sinestro IS a GL in this movie. He's Hals mentor. Where, when and how he goes bad we don't know yet. We just know he'll be set up for the villian in Part 2.
Also Johns and Tomasi are not writing this. Though Martin Campbell will be using elements of Johns work. Particularly Secret Origins. The script is finished and has been for a while. The movie starts shooting next month. You kinda need to keep up with current events. Or at least go on IMDB. There's no speculation anymore. Sinestro IS in the film, likely played by Mark Strong and he will end up the villian. Don't worry. -
And yeah, Daredevil may be "Marvel's Batman" but that sure as hell doesn't make Daredevil the next Batman. Not even the same ballpark.
-
But Batman is better. BUT, they could make a really awesome Daredevil movie. It's been one of Marvel's best for awhile.
-
The movie was friggin' TERRIBLE.
-
Daredevil isn't rich and he has super powers. Moon Knight's just a crazy guy with multiple personalities, all kinds of moon-themed gadgets and a seemingly limitless bank account.

Gee, I wonder if there was any Daredevil news today?
by randomwordrandomword
But none have been posted on this website, so I guess there is no news on that front.
-
It was better than Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Superman 3, Superman 4, Supergirl, Superman Returns, Spiderman 3, and Catwoman. So suck it, Nancy-boys.
-
Good work.
-
...you seem to be referring to a "part 2" in this "franchise".What makes anyone think there will be more than one of these films?
-
With JJ and Cruise.
On topic, Howard *was* better than FF and Elektra. -

I'm truly surprised the FX weren't redone for the DVD release of
by monkey_king
This film coulda fared better with redone FX, especially after the fact they touted the FX at the time of the film as being state-of-the-art. It was a little person in a suit fer chrissakes! Stan Winston's 'Howard' design would've owned if done in CGI.
-
The only movie in the history of cinema where the special features disc should be blank..
-
I haven't read much GL outside of the Johns/Tomasi run (from Rebirth to the Sinestro Corps war and Blackest Night), but choosing Hector Hammond as the villain seems. . .odd.
I mean, it's not like GL has the kind of fascinating Rogue's Gallery that Batman has, but an immobile, stationary villain cursed with psychic powers hardly sounds like the kind of epic GL movie I envision. I mean, at the very least, they could have used Black Hand to set up up for Blackest Night. -
I.E., an idiot.
-
do we really need this left wing jag load in a GL movie?
-
hadn't seen it in ages. It *is*, on the scale of comic book movies, better than average, particularly the second half. But it wasn't as enjoyable as I remembered it to be; the inconsistent tone plus the passage of time makes it a little harder to defend. Jeffrey Jones rocks, however.
-
I.E., an idiot.
-
I just became more interested in this film. And Howard the Duck really is better than it's often given credit for. Kinda like Ishtar in that regard. Both of them are really quite watchable and nowhere near what I consider to be "terrible" films. B-movies, a lot of indies and a lot of horror films contain a whole lot more bad than either Howard the Duck or Ishtar.
-
And a great film could be hatched if they used the Moench/Sienkiewicz run of Moon Knight back in the '80s as inspiration.
-
How he can fuck Susan Sarandon I'll never know.
-
It's the cans.
