* “Smallville” matched its season high in 18-49 and beat its season high in total viewers on the strength of its Justice Society episode, packed silly with DC funnybook icons.

* “Caprica” fell back to its season premiere level. “Star Wars: Clone Wars” also fell again.

* Fresh from the triumphant 3.8 it scored in the post-“American Idol” slot on Tuesday, “Kitchen Nightmares” rose substantially in its regular Friday slot. Again, one wonders if a single airing after “Idol” would have helped “Dollhouse” in a similar fashion.

* The three Friday CBS dramas were all up this week, all winning their timeslots as per usual.

* “Supernanny” overtook the season finale of “Shark Tank,” which matched its Friday low.

* The final Friday edition of “Leno” matched its all-time Friday low. It was the lowest-rated broadcast of the night aside from “Smallville” and the season’s weakest repeat of “Law & Order.”

    Spartacus ratings = Caprica ?

    by v'shael

Isn't Siffy a much more popular network?

Wow, that really shows you. Crapica isn't exactly wowing its target audience. For all the fact that Spartacus gets no love at Coaxial, it's doing pretty well for its network.

Caprica is a good show, but...

    by flandersbum

...it really should do a little more Battlestar Galactica fan service. Little things in the background or on the TV monitors to remind us that we are in the same universe. A Viper flying by, a TV show about the newest Battlestar just commisioned, anything about space at all really. Good show and can't wait to see what happens with the characters.

    Surprised about Clone Wars

    by drath

I couldn't watch it because bad weather ruins my reception. Also, I hate Cartoon Network's commercials and scheduling, so I DVR the show--only I have to DVR non-HD because the channel doesn't want to work in HD for me. Generally I wait eagerly for the blu ray box set though and don't kill myself trying to watch the show if there's a problem. But everyone can't have the same problems as me! It's been a pretty solid show, so the numbers surprise me and make me think it's bad scheduling more than appeal. Cartoon Network sucks as a channel to watch though, it was far more fun when it was retro Hanna-Barbera TV Land style.

    Caprica is a complete bore......

    by codecrackx15

It just doesn't go anywhere and the whole virtual reality is just so tired.
I keep watching the time when it's on and just wish the hour would get over because nothing interesting happens.
The final straw was seeing one of the cars with a close up of the Jaguar on the front. I mean seriously...you have Jag's 150,000 years ago on another planet???
I do believe I'm about done with tuning into this one. BSG was a billion times BETTER!!!!

  • the fan base is totally opposite. Like most of the rest of humanity, everyone post Idol would have watched Dollhouse and thought "Wow. She looks nice, but this show is pointless as hell and Joss Whedon writes for pre-teen girls. I'll pass". Gordon Ramsey, on the other hand, is awesome and is just eminently watchable ... especially when he's telling insane people to F off.

Spartacus is the best show on friday.

    by shadydave

If kitchen nightmares was new every week on say wednesday, it would destroy. Caprica did disappoint again. Just not great writing. Tired even. Nothing would have saved the disaster of Dollhouse. Besides a few episodes Dollhouse was bland and mostly not written by Wedon. The rest of these shows are poopy. SPARTACUS!!! I doubt the show keeps its steam as most shows do not. But well written. FUN STUFF.

    Ghost Whisperer

    by bizarrojerry

I have a feeling that show's number's would be lower if J-Love wore big baggy sweaters all the time. The cleavage on that show is so over the top sometimes, I expect the other characters to mention it. I figure it does okay because women like the premise and their boyfriends/husbands like the tits.

    Smallville

    by lostbat

Buddytv " Smallville managed to attract around 2.8 million viewers, noted as the show's largest audience for season 9.

The arrival of the JSA wasn't just good for the series itself. Apparently, "Absolute Justice" was the best Friday showing that the network has had since 2008."

Uh, if this is true why the hell aint AICN posting this?! According to Latino Review Chris Nolan is being asked by Warner to help reboot the Superman franchise. HARRY!!!! WTF?!

    Reply to Talkback

  • " helped “Dollhouse” in a similar fashion."Maybe, but not significantly. Remember, this is a show that didn't "get good" until the 6th episode. Any extra viewers the post-Idol slot might have gained for the pilot, probably would have been lost after the second or third Friday episode. On the other hand, maybe the Idol audience would have really dug the backup singer episode, so who knows?

    Absolute Justice = Absolute Cheese

    by mapman

What a dull episode! It really should have been tightened up and been a single episode. Hawkman looked particularly bad. What did he use his wings for? Flying? Could have fooled me. They really could have used some CGI in that regard. It would have been neat to see the silver age Flash or Green Lantern besides on the mural. On the other hand, Dr. Fate looked kind of cool.

    by frodofraggins

And spartacus has terrible, terrible acting and writing. I didn't like 300's green screen, slomo-speedup style. So I'm not gonna suddenly like it here.
So much money is spent making crap and great shows like Deadwood, Rome and Carnivale get cancelled early. So sad.

    by chaderick

Best episode of the season, some of the best TV I've seen in years...and I watch a lot of TV. This episode is what the Avengers movie should be...It's a shame DC can't pull together a JLA movie like this. They could own whatever summer blockbuster season they set their sights on.

    Caprica

    by veritasses

is potentially interesting because it explores (will explore) the creation of an artificial, yet sentient species and the ramifications it'll have on human civilization. That's the sort of stuff that's been the inspiration for great sci fi since the earliest works of the genre.

Caprica benefits in part because of the success of BSG and because we know (from BSG) that the eventual outcome is tragic. It has a lot of good things going for it but I think what they've shown so far and the directions they seem to be heading have been a bit disappointing / underwhelming.

The criticisms about it being "slow" are warranted and a symptom of some of the problems with the show. There are a lot of characters and sub-plots going on some of which aren't particularly necessary or interesting or are just poorly constructed/executed. These are serious but fixable problems. There's also no dominant thread that serves to provide momentum and move things a long from point to point. While this isn't always necessary, it would help a lot for a show like this. They should start by clearly defining what and who this show is about and put a lot more effort building up and telling that story. Most of the other stuff should wait until the main arc is firmly established. Then each sub plot would be richer and can be told with a much higher degree of drama and urgency.

Despite what I've said above, I should say that I do like the show. It's not a "have to rush home and tune in" sort of thing like BSG was but I do enjoy it and I really want it to succeed. It's still very, very early so maybe my criticisms are premature. I do worry though that if it doesn't improve in some way, support for the show's going to wither. I guess we'll see after they've aired a few more episodes.

The suits might get the idea that serious, respectful treatment of superhero source material = success.

Get Welling in red and blue before he gets medicare.

Oh and while I loved Absolute Justice (how can you not love the first screen appearance of Ma Hunkle)-- I did have to pause playback and say "Oh WOW" at the Stargirl chick's performance when she learns (was it Pemberton or Dodds?) is dead at the beginning -- I mean, you don't come to Smallville looking for the finest dramatic performance, but I THINK she set some kind of record there.

    by torpor_haze

we already know Caprica story, they're going to overexpose it with the show. Show about Kobol could be much more interesting since its origins are more mythical.
