Here's The Red Band COP OUT Trailer!!

Published at:  Feb 08, 2010 2:02:30 PM CST

Irish Rican here -

Here's the red band trailer for Kevin Smith's COP OUT- which will be hitting theaters February 26th. Seems like the red band trailer brings out the film's vibe a bit better then the green trailer - movie is going to be just a bit filthy.

These trailers still give no clue what this movie is about but at least the red band will make you laugh out loud.

  • Since essentially killing off his own characters and turning his back on the universe he created that made him all his money, Smith has really just lost it. It sucks too. I used to respect the guy, but he's just gotten lazier over the years. Phoning it in to the extreme. I mean, how many of you have read the script for DICKS? It wasn't awful, but it wasn't really funny at all either. A shitload of generic jokes. You want funny? Read The Backups. That thing was fucking amazing.

If the movie is not funny at all who else would there BE to blame other than Kevin Smith?

I assume you are referencing Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis' really flat and uninspired work in that trailer, and yea, nothing they do (nothing!) is funny in any way. But Kevin Smith DIRECTED this shit. He is the one responsible for the comedic timing and the beats and visual humor.

It's a Kevin Smith movie at the end of the day so if it's shitty....well, then Kevin Smith directed a shitty movie, so yes, I'll blame him. Kind of makes sense.

I think it gives the impression that the cast had a good time filming the movie and hopefully that well be reflected on the actual film as well. As an editor, I'm interested in seeing how this is assumingly edited by someone other than Smith. The first trailer REALLY sucked, but the KRS One was nice and now that "Come Baby Come" song are really nice elements that will hopefully exist in the movie as well.

    by borstal boy

That mofo elevated HIMSELF to be a "known film maker" by the considerable quality of his movies...and further, the whole "he's overrated" criticism is shallow and empty to the extant that it implies that there are a select cadre of critics who may truly say what is good and bad. Pure BS. If you don't like Kevin Smith or Spike Lee's movies is one thing, but both those guys are excellent examples of individuals who helped define what modern filmmakers can be.

When I think of The Godfather, Coppola comes to mind first, not Mario Puzo. When E.T. comes to mind I think Spielberg, not Melissa Mathison.

I'm not knocking the screenwriters, they are very important. However, the way it is now is that the director gets a lot of the credit for a films success or failure. Ivan Reitman was praised for such films as Ghostbusters and ripped apart for My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

We have built those films so high in our brain over the years that they are untouchable. But, that said, you gotta admit this has potential. And it's Silent Bob directing a buddy cop action movie. Dude, a director's impact on modern film making isn't just about his "style" has been copied (even though Lee's own style definitely has been extensively, even overtly by the likes of Kevin Smith himself).

Whether you like his politics or not, you can't argue that Spike Lee is one of the most prolific modern directors to directly place the issue of racial and sexual identity as a meaningful story element in what are essentially pop corn movies. And no, his movies are NOT all about race or "just" about race just because he consciously includes it as a relevant factor for many of his characters or stories. Check out The 25th Hour for example, the story of that movie doesn't focus on race or 9/11 at all yet these are both important contextual elements for the story. Even beyond this, the dude has a strong visual and directorial style of his own that keeps evolving but which is identifiable enough that many people can see a sequence and say "that's a Spike Lee shot"...try watching Do the Right Thing and Inside Man back to back and you'll see what I mean. Moreover the man has made some extraordinarily powerful documentaries like When the Levees Broke and Four Little Girls and basically reinvigorated the standup comedy film format with The Original Kings of Comedy.

It's fine if you don't like his movies, but to dismiss Spike as a serious film maker is just preposterous....

... and it was actually funny. I didn't expect it to be good after that first crappy trailer, but there are some genuinely funny parts in it. (Although they shouldn't have spoiled the kid car thief part - it was one of the better bits in the movie.)

Yes, Spike is a filmmaker. But is he a film maker that has "shaped modern cinema"? Absolutely not. He's had no influence in how today's films are told. You need to be more honest about it. Which of his films "shaped" movies of today? "She Gotta Have It"? "School Daze"? "Mo' Better Blues"? "Crooklyn"? "Clockers"? "Girl 6"? "She Hate Me"?... That's some "groundbreaking" movies there!

I actually think some of those are pretty interesting movies that have added to and helped to expand the narrative and thematic content of film today. The man has helped to "shape modern cinema" in much the same way that scorcese has... by showing that independent directors can make some quality flicks that don't fall into established genres.
