Glory be to Fin Fang Foom! RED SKULL to be villain in Johnston's FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA movie!

Hey folks, Harry here with news... well, it simply fucking makes my heart sing a thousand choruses of the MERRY MARVEL MARCHING SOCIETY SONG!!! We had a dear reader named Greg Mandile drop me a quick note:
Just heard on Geek Time on Sirius Howard 101 that RED SKULL is confirmed to be the villain in the Captain America Movie.
That came out of today's WOLFMAN junket that is a going on in Los Angeles right now - and I have to say... that's a dream come true. I never really hoped that I'd get to see a big budget World War 2 set CAPTAIN AMERICA movie. I remember trying to convince Avi Arad about the necessity of a WWII set CAPTAIN AMERICA movie back ages ago - but the thought at that time was to modernize every character. Have Cap be a soldier experimented on for CURRENT military endeavors and NO. That is not how to go. Thankfully, cooler minds have been driving MARVEL's film slate and with Swinging Joe Johnston getting set to unleash Simon & Kirby's greatest creation upon the silver screen... well - I can not wait! This is fantastically cool news! I just hope Baron Zemo is involved for the final act. AND - is BUCKY in the movie?

I like that they're sticking to the source material. I really hate modernizations.

    A good step.

    by DanielPlainviewOnVacationInBoston

But this has to be solid as hell. Which both Iron Man and Incredible Hulk were. And Thor must be, as well.

    by HoffmanPasander

It's going to look so stupid. It'll kill each and every individual franchise. You'll have Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man lining up alongside a time-travelling Captain America and a Norse God. How can you take the original Iron Man seriously after that?

    by mojination

Sorry America, but it's true. I know how awesome the Cap is, but knee jerk reactions can effect OS box office. A modern, uber nationalist approach (let's face it, he IS the best kind of nationalist) that used iraq in that way would be hard to swallow for many people outside comic geek circles, as would separating comic lore (albeit slightly altered) from political statement. I dig the Cap, i dig Marvel, i dig Joe - i wanna see this succeed. This is very good news!

Thomas Jane. If Reynolds can play two marvel roles then so can he. Plus if he channels his role from the Mist and combine it with the tenacity and focus from the Punisher then he's perfect. He's a director's actor - Joe could really turn him into a great character.

Once again, Cap MUST be white, blond, blue-eyed

    by Immortal_Fish

Stunt casting cannot be permitted for this character. He cannot be played Will Smiff. The reason is obvious and not nuanced in the slightest, else the irony is completely lost upon you.
Once upon a time, there was this whole World War II thingy and that Hitler guy, who ordered those experiment type things where they were trying to create, like, a master race or something. This master race was composed of white men with blue eyes and blond hair.
Now, imagine being the Red Fucking Skull. You believe in your cause completely and fight on the battlefield with great valor. Eventually, you hear about this guy that has become a living symbol of the enemy that has not only united, but inspired everyone on the other side. He's single handedly turned the tide of battle. And one day you finally cross paths with this man to find that he is also the embodiment of what you have been led to believe is the master race. White, blond hair, and blue eyed. That's some ironic shit for your ass. That's some ironic shit that Will Smiff, frankly, cannot provide.
I'd be down with reimagining Rogers as a Jew. That would add even more ironic weight. Yet the faith of Ben Grimm and Kitty Pryde was never revealed in their movie versions, so I doubt they'd go that route.
Re-imagining comic book characters that have been around 50+ years as minorities for no noticeable reason does not make them interesting. It only obviates that white guilt does indeed exist.

    by Ganymede3001

I mean fuck. 99.9% of all Super Hero's are White. The second they re-imagine it to be someone else, the babies whine, kick and scream, because the 99.9% rule isn't enforced. Captain America is an idea, it's not a fucking race. He's a bloody boring character anyway, what makes him expendable. Casting a minority C.A and letting him loose on the NAZI's will be cinema gold.

The only casting that's been suggested for Spider-Man is Logan Lerman as Peter Parker (not bad). Waltz is the villain Green Hornet, which I don't think will have anywhere near the impact of Captain America. Besides, he'll be in make up for Red Skull.

Is perfect for Cap. And at the time, America meant something different in the world than she does today. This gives Cap the chance for some nice angst when he is revived. "Man out of time" stuff. Yes, most people are surprised the movie makers are going the obvious and correct route.
Captain America is one of those characters you can use to judge people with (like Superman). by antonphd

nationalism is not love of your country. that's patriotism. nationalism is blind devotion to the belief that your country is the greatest in the world and really the rest are at best a distant second if not just plain shit. that's nationalism. it's fucked up. too many people mistake it for patriotism. it's kind of like mistaking arrogance for pride. i'm proud of america. i love america. i don't think america is the greatest country in the world. i'm proud of my family. i love my family. i don't think my family is the greatest family in the world either. the idea of it is just retarded. it's for sheep.

    I'm not even American, but...

    by Rain_Dog

The problem with casting anyone other than a white guy as Captain America is that you're not just asking for the character to be rewritten, you're asking for America's history to be rewritten. The movie is going to be set in WWII. Do you honestly expect the audience to accept that the American government, or indeed any of the Allied powers, would have used a person of colour as their national symbol in the '40s? Sure, it would be ironic re: Hitler's views on race, but America and the Allies weren't exactly beacons of racial tolerance back then either, so the whole idea smacks of a kind of blind historical revisionism I can't get behind. If Steve Rogers, in the comics or the movies, chose to retire and pass the mantle on to a black person (hey, why not a woman?) I'd be 100% for it. But a black Cap used by the government to inspire American troops but not allowed to drink from the same water fountains as them back home? Completely absurd. Sorry.

You are 100% correct. The accepted history of Cap would have to change, and for what? Very simply, Cap was a living flag. Anyone who changes that because, say, Smith is the world's hottest actor risks total destruction of the character. Besides, I can't believe he'd do that. He saw what happened with Wild Wild West--the filmmakers never considered that they would have to actually think about the character and how he came to be, and how he operates in his society. Making, say, Bruce Banner black? Who cares. I know nothing about Banner that relates to his race in any slightest way. Making Cap black? Stupid idea.

    real patriotism

    by GrndlWnderer

Caps has been many things throughout his career as a character.Sometimes he was a propaganda character, but also at times he represented true patriotism, those who sacrifice for their country and those in it, and who, when it is needed, don't follow the easy path of blind patriotism that can be easily swayed by emotion jingoism, but stand for principles that we think our (assuming most reader are American) nation is about. He should be the optimistic, but realistic American who wants everyone, everywhere to have truth, justice, freedom and opportunity to succeed. Not the Greenwood singing, love it or leave patriot, but rather the determined and sincere patriot. And as for race, well I have no problem with it if it is done well...but too often it is stunt casting to make the character edgy or hip, and that is just to mask one thing..bad writing. But I think it would be pretty hard to pull off a black Cap in 1940's era America...too much injustice and such...but if someone could come up with a cool reason, it could be pretty awesome. It would be more likely, and probably better structurally, to have Cap confronted with his country's own hypocrisy by his enemy, ala how can he criticize the Nazi's Final Solution when America essentially enslaves a large minority of their own. But I doubt there will ever be that much reflection in this kind of a movie. I just don't want a loud speaking, bull headed dumb action flick, but rather a smart, fun WWII movie with Caps in it.

Jessie Owens is actually a really good point,

    by Rain_Dog

But he wasn't expressly created by the government as a propaganda tool, and he was never expected to lead a large number of white troops into battle, many of whom would likely have had real trouble taking orders from a black man. Also, I've read the mini-series, Dreadlock, but I guess I interpreted it a little differently. My understanding is that Isaiah Bradley wasn't officially recognised as the first Captain America, nor was he ever officially sanctioned to wear the uniform in the field. The comparison to the Tuskegee Experiments actually backs up my point - the black soldiers were used as guinea pigs and considered expendable, while Steve Rogers was anything but - a white man wasn't given the serum until it was perfected. That was sort of the point of Truth: Red White and Black; not to retcon America's racial history, just to add more realism and complexity to the Marvel Universe's historical underpinnings. By the way, I say all this as someone who not only tries to reject any kind of racism or racialism, but as a non-American with an enormous amount of respect for America's history and culture. That's why I don't like to see the uncomfortable aspects of that history white-washed (irony intended) to fit in a with a modern sensibility. Incorporating elements of the Truth mini-series into the movie would be a great way of acknowledging the more uncomfortable aspects of America's beacon of liberty looking so much like a member of Hitler's master race; making Steve Rogers black would do no such thing, unfortunately.

    Also with regard to Owens...

    by Rain_Dog

His victory was rationalised by the Nazis using a line of racialist thinking that was extremely common back then on both sides of the War, and sadly still pops up now and then; that black people are physically stronger than caucasians, but correspondingly morally and intellectually inferior. In Inglourious Basterds (not exactly a historical document, of course) Goebbels basically implies that the Americans cheated them out of the gold medal by using an animal instead of a human. Again, I obviously don't agree with that perspective, but that's how the Nazis rationalised his superior performance.

My grandson might end up being a rock star. Doesn't make me one, sadly. Bradley is rightly recognised by many in the Marvel Universe as the original Captain America, but more in a spiritual or moral sense than a literal or political one; he wasn't actually acknowledged by the Government of the time as the first Captain America, nor was he ever sent on a mission in that capacity or used in publicity. He was rightly given a state funeral by the then-current administration in an attempt to make amends for the injustice he suffered, but making him the only Captain America in a feature film would not only contradict America's racial politics at the time, but also undermine the complexity and poignance of his role in the Marvel Universe.

While Isiah Bradley wasn't recognized as Captain America at the time, Stever Rogers considers him his predecessor and greatly respects him. So do other heroes. So while it may not be the way some of us would justify it, the precedent is there. There WAS a black super-soldier in the 1940's who would later be remembered as Captain America.

From WWII to modern day world - Assemble

    by vadakinX

Cap fights Red Skull on the wing of a bomber en route to New York City with an atomic bomb. Cap defeats Red Skull and sacrifices himself, crashing the plane into the Arctic. His body is frozen, lost to the deep and back home, Bucky and co hold a funeral for their departed friend. Fade to black.
70 years later...Cap opens his eyes. He's lying on a surgical bed with Dr. Bruce Banner standing over him. Cap grabs a scalpel and threatens Banner. Fury walks into the room and suggests that it's best not to make Banner angry and informs him about SHIELD and other heroes. Iron Man and co are outside. Iron Man gives Cap his shield and says "Welcome to the Avengers." End Credits.
The Avengers movie would then start 6 months before that with SHIELD tracking down Bruce Banner because they need his help to perfect the super soldier serum. Bruce hulks out of course and fights Thor but after calming down he informs Fury of the only truly successful test of the serum - Captain America. Of course they have to go find him. Which brings us neatly back to the end of Captain America
Hire me Marvel. I'm much cheaper than Zak more ways than one. ZING...against myself. Eek.

For giving a nod to black servicemen. Marvel was, to my knowledge, the first comic to have a black supervillain (a mad scientist in Steranko's SHIELD comics) and they always felt sensitive to the fact that they were limited in their expression of "equality" by the dictates of economics. But I'd be less than non-interested in turning Cap into some kind of political statement. That would make no sense on multiple grounds. Marvel is trying to create an empire, not change the social landscape.

And thank you for the kind words man, much respect. Finally, I really, truly hope that this whole aspect of Steve Rogers, and the history of the super-soldier project is acknowledged in the film. I say make Isiah Bradley and the early experiments a part of the movie, perhaps in a pre-credits sequence (maybe even make Howard Stark the racist SOB who short-changes him so badly), and then have the still-youthful Steve visit Isiah in the present day to pay his respects and acknowedge his personal debt to the men who came before him. You could have Isiah's grandson take over from a retired Rogers in a later film. I'd love to see a black, or as I said before, female Captain America, but I'd also like to see the Steve Rogers I grew up reading about done justice. He has always represented what I love about America, and I think it would be a shame to deny his place in America's cultural fabric. Right, I'm off to watch Absolute Justice. Hope it's not Absolute Rubbish! Cheers guys. Oh and hey, BurnedNotice, I've heard the Invaders might make an appearance. Fingers crossed!

Totally great points on both sides, and I agree with trying to tell the stories from the comics with a more inclusive perspective, but with Cap, his origin is pretty tied in with the racism of the civil rights movement. There is absolutely nothing wrong with thinking your country is the greatest country in the world. I wouldn't trust someone who didn't think their country was the greatest in the world, unless a foreigner thought that the United States of America was the greatest country in the world. That foreigner and I would have a common belief. If antonphd is an American, he can kiss my ass. Captain America does not stand for "arrogant, racist, nationalistic, jingoistic..." blahblahblah. He stands for the ideals that this country was founded on. Also, making Cap black or Asian or a woman is dumb. Comics are a visual medium, and all attempts at making a movie based on the visual medium should try to stay as true to the source material as possible. If it was a Captain America radio show it wouldn't matter if Cap was black or white or whatever. In the visual medium of film it does matter. Don't stray from the original source material just to add some popular black actor or to make some political-ideological-philosophical point. It's unnecessary. And Sam Worthington cannot be Captain America. He's a Brit. I do not want to see an American James Bond ever either.

Isaiah Bradley was a bullshit Nu Marvel gimmick that turned out to be a great story. However, the story of a 85lb pipsqueak with polio who gets picked to be the 1st of many new super soldiers, ends up being the only one and then instead of initially getting put into combat he's turned into a jokey propaganda tool that none of the other soldiers respect. Taking that guy and throwing him into WWII just makes for a more interesting story. Shit, they can go all Godfather Part II and tell Isaiah Bradley's story as flashbacks in the sequel. On another note, to all the red state goobers taking up Steve Rodgers like he's some institution liberals want to vanquish like Christmas, you do realize that Captain America is one of the most liberal characters in comics right? He's a guy who fights for everything America aught to be abour, an idealist. Not some jingoistic "my country right or wrong" dipshit.

Cap movie has to start at that point. There is a certain mindset of that time frame that is conducive to true nationalism. My grandfather, born and raised in Italy, fought for the US (his new nation) during the war. I asked him if he was torn. "No! I fought for my country!" As for racial casting: from a historical perspective, yeah a white dude. Just like Flags of Our Fathers, to be accurate it was almost completely white. Tough for Spike Lee to figure out though.

first of all, i never said that Captain America was nationalistic. second, i am an american and i love america and i am proud of america but since i have a brain in my head that works i don't think america is the greatest country on earth. i think maybe this is a problem for some people of misunderstanding how greatness works. you achieve something so wonderous that others delare your greatness. you don't get to call yourself great. that's not how it works. unless you are a douche or you are trying to psyche out your opponent in a competition. then you are of course not really declaring yourself great because you are great but because you are trying to bluff. here's how being called the greatest country on earth would work. america achieves something wonderous and the other countries of the world declare our greatness. saying you are great yourself is like judging yourself in a competition. it's meaningless. and it's pointless cause nobody else takes it seriously. you just say you are great and everyone rolls their eyes. because you don't get to declare it about yourself. now, america IS considered by many around the world as the greatest country on earth and when we hear that from them we get to puff out our chests with pride and enjoy our well earned admiration. but we don't say it about ourselves. it's just not how it works. unless you are a moron.

Cap is only "liberal" because most of the guys who've been writing him since the 1970s have been liberal too and have been projecting their OWN beliefs through the character. For many of us, some of the stuff Cap does is completely contrary to the idea of the character. Capt. America roughing up the head of Gitmo and tossing him in the Caribbean because he's mad that the Al-Qaeda terrorists held there had to see him walking by in costume???
That's a load of complete crap only an idiot drowning in liberalism could write without throwing up. That's hardly the same guy who spent WW2 smacking Nazis around. The Cap from the Ultimates is far more realistic.
And making Cap Black is as stupid an idea as making James West Black. Both are "period" characters who actions, motivations and circumstances would be COMPLETELY different if they were Negro (yeah, I said it!). And an integral part of Capt. America's appeal is that he IS from another time when pride in America was something to cheer and admire, making his displacement into the present day jarring for him and a new source of inspiration for a jaded generation. You can't re-imagine him as a creation of today's world without destroying the character.

As a tried and true independent, blue-blooded American...

... someone who has voted Democrat and Republican my whole life... I must say, I'm getting tired of all the far, far left bullshit I hear in talkbacks like this. I'm not talking about folks who have a liberal outlook on life... I'm talking about the freaking nutty "America is evil", "American's hate homosexuals", "Americans hate poor people", "America causes all the world's problems" crowd.... seriously, that shit's getting old... When the earthquake hit Haiti... America was the first to offer up a shitload of aid... and we're going through a terrible recession right now. This nation gives folks the best chance in the world. Here you can become whatever you want to become in life, and the best part is... we don't even require that you stay here in this country to do what you want. You can go make a career anywhere in the world. The U.S. always gets shitted on... we're constantly reminded of the genocide that took place with the Native Americans. We're told we should feel guilty about our nation's past sins... but seriously, what country on this planet does NOT have a history of warfare, violence and genocide... if you say Switzerland... yeah, they didn't commit violent acts, they just turned a blind eye toward genocide in order to save their own asses... very noble. That's the way of the world. You can't change the past... America is not perfect, neither are you... so please, American haters... SHUT. THE. F#@K. UP. ... and Ryan McPartlin for Captain America.

    by sagamanus

It was your country that created and financed the murderous duvalier regime, as well as every dictatorship in lat amer and the world. Nearly all your foreign aid is military aid. As for the first one's into Haiti - its troops that you sent to prevent lavalas from making any headway there. And blocked aid and help. Incidentally you also kidnapped Aristide and sent him into exile. So go suck your own cock asshole america is hated for a reason and rightfully so. And we're all sick of you pretending dem and repub is diff.

Also, there's nothing wrong with cap at all, it's the delivery system that needs to be thought about if the most people possible are going to love it. You show us all a movie about a super soldier from a controversial conflict fighting for the side that shouldn't really be there in the first place...probably going to raise some eyebrows. Leading the charge in world war 2 in which the states were proud and tall amongst true allies fighting for a good cause? Solid gold. Everyone can get behind that. Nationalism and patriotism are kinda blurry to alot of people, so bring it back to a time and place where it was a clearer. Win!

It's not "America is evil." In my opinion America is an empire, but an exteremely benelovent one, and really smart pr when it comes to it's conquest. I'm a fan of the old American ideals, even if the country itself doesn't live up to them anymore. I lived over there for halfa year and I had a blast, you're good people, I had the best time there. You guys just seem hypocrital to the rest of the world. Yes, all countries have done terrible shit. It's just wierd shit like branding yourself as the land of the free for centuries, when you have just abandoned slavery yesterday (at least on the historical scales we have to deal in Europe. I mean 1865? That's jsut 150 years. We have stuff in the fridge older than that :) ). And while every country has wars in it's past (but mostly not as recent as yours) we don't talk about our own greatness al the time. Also bombing the shit out of developing countries doesn't help. Look at it this way. If countries went to school, America would be the kid talking about how great he is all the time, kicking in the face of the smaller, browner kids for no real reason and refusing to admit he soiled himself the other day. And we still like that kid, he is fun to hang out with, and has really good qualities, it's just those things sometimes get in the way of our friendship.

    about the america hate

    by MariusXe

I really don't get it most of the time. I'm german and I get my fair share of hate from stupid people all my life when I'm in some foreign country. When I was at a student exchange in france the french students greeted us with "sieg heil" shouts and salutes, which still ticks me off. It is just very unfair to get the blame of stuff not even your grandfather was old enough to really understand (he was 15 or 16 at the end of the war). Yeah, my country did horrible horrible despicable stuff in the war but why do I get the hate? Some of my best friends are jewish. That said I also don't get why all america gets the hate for things the government does. I mean, yes, there is probably a lot horrible bullshit going on but condemning a whole country for that? seem pretty weak. I think I love america. Alone for the movies and the entertainment stuff (I almost only read us comics, watch us series, a lotta us movies, listen to a lot of us bands), so how could I hate that country as a whole? Sure there are enough assholes in america, but those you have in every country. And Cap America? i think he just represents the best of the idea of america. Like superman he is a symbol that should represent how good we humans as a people could be. Sure, the big "A" on his forehead looks a bit silly but ed brubakers run really changed my mind about the character. I hope my post wasn't too corny... and if it was then lets hold hands and sing heal the world together!!!

    by David Cloverfield

C'mon, you seem like a nice guy (I work with some germans, and they're mostly good people when they're not in "vacation" mode) But how can you not get the rule "if your great-grandfather tortures and kills my grandfather, you'll get some funny looks from me". It's human nature. Also, a government is supposed to be the representative of a people of a whole. America is not a conquered land under the heel of a tyrant, hostage to his whims. It's a democracy, so the responsibility for every action the government takes ultimately lies with the people. For example our incomptetent government in Hungary drives the country deeper into a hole and gives fuel the far right every day, and we only have ourselves to blame. So every single voting age citizen is responsible for every dead body in the Iraq sand. Just like it's responsible for every single saved haitiian.

Billy Boomstick, don't sweat these European idiots...

    by TheGhostWhoLurks

They're still jealous that we had to pull their fats out of the fire back in the 1940s (Capt. America being a MAJOR reminder of that for overseas comic nerds) and our pre-eminence as a world power ever since. For countries up to 1000 or more years old, a young "upstart" like the USA having a position once held only by China, England or France just plain sticks in their collective craws. To the point where even the do-nothings living off their governments' doles have a twisted sense of entitlement and overblown sense of superiority.
Despite this, the United States is still the guy on the block they come running to and look for when the $#!+ hits the fan. Which just makes them even MORE bitter. Europeans with sense KNOW how great America truly is and respect and admire us for our ideals and all the good we've accomplished.

As I've posted elsewhere and before,

    by Dingbatty

If they did want to cast an A-List black actor, they could incorporate the Howling Commandos into the storyline, as, in the Marvel U, Nick Fury's unit was the first to be integrated (search "Gabe Jones" on wikipedia). Then there would be two African-Americans in the HC (unless, of course, they had "Nick Fury" be an inheritable name, like "The Dread Pirate Roberts" in The Princess Bride).
Kevin Feige doesn't have the juevos to include the Infinity Formula into the movie Marvel U, as that would entail having Fury and the gang having been around since WWII (this includes Black Widow; Bucky as Winter Soldier was frozen cryogenically). Also, having Captain America be played by a black man diminishes the impact and prestige of the character of T'Challa/Black Panther being the first black superhero with his own ongoing comic book title.

When I was a kid, SPIDER-MAN was my favorite Marvel character, then maybe IRON-MAN. But today, both IRON-MAN and CAPTAIN AMERICA battle for the top spot, so that goes to show how much faith I have in the material.
It is up to Hollywood to show some balls and make this the great flick it CAN be.

Yes the USA helped out in WWII but the fact it took so long to enter the war (i.e turning a blind eye to a genocidal maniac - yeah you should be proud of that) plus the way the USA allowed it's companies to profit from BOTH sides throughout the war are just a couple of things that make the rest of the world doubt your claims of greatness. America is a country FOUNDED on the greatest ideals, but it sure as hell hasn't kept to them! Captain America represents the decency and honour that America's forefathers hoped to instill throughout their fledgling nation, not the overbearingly arrogant money-obsessed politicians and the trailer-trash fuckwits who vote for them. Miles_Teg's suggestion of Alexander Skarsgård for Cap is the best casting idea I've seen yet. He is indeed amazing in Generation Kill, playing a dignified patriot who does his duty but quietly dispairs at the retarded behaviour of the rednecks serving with him. That's the kind of American Cap is supposed to be, i.e not an "Amurrikin". Also, the fact that Skarsgård is not actually American might make any jingoistic tripe in the movie sit better with foreign audiences and help the movie rake in the cash...

An Avengers movie will NEVER happen

    by Sick Fixx

I don't care how determined and insistent they are, there's no way it can ever happen for the same reason Hoffman mentioned, but also because there's no way that many high maintenance actors would be willing to share the screentime after they've spent so much time bulking up their respective characters' franchises. Justice League will never happen for the same reason. There is no way that many heroes can share the spotlight for an entire movie, not even if it's three and a half hours in running time. Leave Justice League and Avengers to comic books. X-Men worked because they were all anchored to Professor Xavier's school and the rest went rogue with Magneto. But Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman all in one movie? Or Iron Man, Captain America, Thor AND Hulk? No way. Not if they want the universe to remain plausible and cohesive.

    by GrndlWnderer

Didn't know about Isaiah Bradley, but knowing that, a really interesting movie could be made with his story inter-cut with rogers story. We could see the good and the bad of it.It would make for a much more rounded story. Make Rogers mode human, if he learns at what price his abilities came, and who paid that price. That would make his war against the Nazi more personal, and have a crusade for justice for everyone, a real motivator. I could be a story about dark beginning leading to light,it could parallel Germany's "ends justify the means" acceptance of radical Nazi policies and force Caps to make a decision about it, even maybe a character changing choice. Rogers could start out as a man who accepts the social injustice of his fellow black Americans, but after going through the program, and then seeing the "Final Solution", has a change of heart and works to be an agent of change in his own country...ahh it'll never happen, to complicated for a popcorn flick.
