The First SNL Of Sweeps!!
An elaborate fart joke cut (no pun intended) between dress and air; it gets better as it goes along:
I am – Hercules!!
I’m told SNL hasn’t been funny in years! And despite its enormous ratings, you’re not aware it’s still on! My favorite sketches from last week:
11:30 p.m. Saturday. NBC.

“Farscape: The Complete Series,” $129.49 last year, is momentarily $59.99. That works out to less than $15 per season!!

Sergio!
-
But he's kept such a low profile lately, I'm all but indifferent to him. So, this news doesn't suck as much as it would have five years ago or so.
-
it's called...your panties.
Not as epic as the last Jon Hamm episode, but not too shabby. "Don't make me sing" was easily the low point. I'm rather appalled that it was the first sketch, but that's Wiig's pull.
-
It hasn't been funny since_____ left in season______
I've taken care of that meme please move on.
-
but, I feel that way about pretty much every Wiig sketch. She's much better as a side player. Don't even get me started on the lady that gets SUPER excited about EVERYTHING...seriously, don't get me started.
-
Wife will show.
-
Unbelievable. Hamm was fantastic.
-
It's the First SNL of the First Sweeps of the Decade.
-
Everyone knows there was no "sweep zero," meaning that you are waaay premature in proclaiming that this is now "sweeps." But go ahead, keep saying it, if you want to look like an idiot.
-
were the only good things about that show. Kutcher, Topher Grace, the smug guy, and the foreign guy can all be murdered, burnt and sent to hell as far as I'm concerned.
-
The "Scared Straight" and "What Up with That?" sketches crack me the hell up. Rest of the shows pretty much suck, though. What's up with Seth Meyers? He looks pained during most of Weekend Update and has this whole "too cool for the rest of the cast" vibe. This generation's Dennis Miller?
-
Aren't you that closet organizer guy?
-
People just have a skewed memory of what it was. I dare you to go back a declare that past seasons are as funny as you remember them to be. 79, 85, 92...whatever. Does some of every season fall flat? Damn Straight! That's why it takes HUGE swingin balls to do a live comedy show every week, hosted by what's almost always an Improv amateur. This season has been as good or better than any I recall, warts and all.
-
I agree that it must literally have everything to do with the guest. Kristen Wiig's sketches have been grating on me lately, but that singing one was funny, only because Jon Hamm really sold it. Can't wait to see Them Crooked Vultures, they're SO BAD ASS LIVE.
-
... and that is what makes it suck. Timeless bits are the ones that are funny.
-
Ashton Kutcher? Really?
-
When you were in High School did you have a guy in your class who always told the lamest jokes and acted like an annoying jack ass but all the girls laughed at him because they thought he was hot and wanted to date him? That is Ashton Kutcher.
-
How many commercials for Valentine's Day will be shown during the show? SNL picks half their guests based on new movies so they can sell ads.
-
He's right, you know...
-
i think its the other way around, the guests try and book themselves there, well least the actors and musicians, can't say about athletes. but actors/musicians usually always have a movie/tv show/album to promote when appearing. i'm sure they go after some people but they refuse to appear until they have something to promote which makes sense. why appear on television for no reason you know? unless you're one of those few who've hosted numerous times, they tend to just show up because. lol
-
And that was the last time he was good in anything. I don't know how he manages to be so popular and famous while coasting on that one series. I know he had Punk'd, where he showed up in his stupid ass trucker hat, but that was just popular because of people's idiotic interest in celebrities.
-
are the only thing worth watching on SNL, it's time to go get an MRI. Sooner, rather than later.
-
Huh....comedy's weird that way.
-
http://tinyurl.com/y88fnmk I'll be chatting with Herc on BlogTalkRadio Sunday, Feb 7th at 2PM EASTERN. Click on over to listen and call in with your questions or comments.
-
No kidding. I laughed the first time she said it because it was funny that no one had asked her to sing. Then it quickly became painfully obvious to me, the second and third time she said it, that that was the entire skit. No longer was I laughing (although the cats on the balcony did amuse me).
Ashton Kutcher? I suspect we'll be seeing another installment of that Cougar talk show.
-
I really just started watching it weekly again and I can't stand her. She plays the same character in every sketch and that ski lodge one was fucking awful. How many of the writers do you think she's doing?
-
I really hope to never have to see that character again, but knowing how this goes, it'll probably be back again and again.
-
is that proof that its still funny and relevant...or proof that today's audience just doesnt really care
today's snl is on par with what was fridays...sometime humorous, sometimes cringe worthy...but far from memorable
-
I really fucking cannot stand Wiig. She brings every skit to a standstill. She's not even FUNNY anymore. I think she actually can be great, but what the hell happened? And Chili Dogg Phart - DEAD ON ABOUT SETH MYERS... I've been saying that since he took over as head writer. I think Tina Fey had a little bit of the same thing... like they're suddenly the fucking high school principal - GUESS WHAT - FUNNY IS FUNNY NO MATTER HOW LONG YOU'VE BEEN ON SNL. You're not automatically funnier because of seniority. THAT'S what's killing the show... true, it's always had bad skits, but those were usually from new players/writers trying things out, not from the most senior players doing tired, boring characters week after week, reeking of an atmosphere of seniority and cliques. At least when Eddie Murphy had been on for a few years and was virtually guaranteed to be the most featured player, he was FUCKING HILARIOUS. Same with Dana Carvey, Belushi, Chase, etc. I'd say that this shit first started toward the end of Will Ferrell's run and REALLY picked up steam towards the end of Tina Fey's reign and now is in full bloom with Seth Myers. Comedy is a survival of the funniest, not a fucking tenured teaching position.
-
Taylor Swift sells millions of records (actually, what do you say anymore... songs? cause of itunes?) and she wins album of the year... doesn't mean she's not bland as fuck. I don't know how people listening to her don't feel as though they're listening to muzak or the shit they used to play over the speakers in a Kmart.
-
I'm old enough to have watched the first season 'live,' and I think the current cast is among the strongest ever. There really isn't a weak link from top to bottom. Some individual skits definitely still suck, but they're the exception. Not every skit from 75-80 was comedy gold, either...
-
Unless you already know it. I'm reading a book, and there was an example of how nobody knows what book will or won't sell. The example given? Jay Leno's 'leading with my chin.' HarperCollins printed 600,000 copies of it and 400,000, yes, FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND were returned to the publisher, unsold. I don't keep up with the Leno ratings shit or whatever, because I could care less. You do seem to care greatly and want to see him fail as much as i (a die hard packer fan) wanted to see Brett Favre fail. Favre pulled a Favre--terrible interception, and Leno must be a douche because if you're that famous and that many books don't sell, it means you're not a very interesting, or even likeable person... funny? debatable, i think not. Thinking about it, I do think Leno is absolutely wasted a timeslot when there are SOOOO many quality shows that could use it. Any real TV lover would be pissed that a show they would love isn't produced because of LEno.
-
The Sen. Brown sketch was funny, but it was Sergio that threw me for a loop
-
Hamm has better comedic timing than just about everyone on SNL combined. Oh yeah... Sergio!!
-
producers of american idol in serious talks with howard stern to take over for simon when he leaves...make it happen....lesbians on american idol every week...im soooo there
-
Howard already said he passed on it.
-
John Hamm walked up to me/I could tell he was pretty drunk/He said do you like money/'Cause this could make a fortune/I laughed and he slapped my face---best episode all season
-
La Resistance WWE theme.
-
...like an attractive blonde lady

SCHWING!
-
Hope you DVR'd it!
-
Was that Grohl? And the Queens of the Stone Age guy? They got ANOTHER side project band? Whoa.
-
AND THAT...

WAS AWESOMMMEEEE!!!
-
Ashton Kutcher has a company with 41 employees that he started THIS YEAR and he's already doing work for the U.N.? He's the most qualified guy to do something?
-
that godforsaken Turn the tub around commercial.

"What was she gonna do? Give birth to a ghost?"

Jennifer Lopez? She's been out of the spotlight for awhile.
by Shermdawg
Wonder what her ass has been doing?
-
is to swim in her pool with chlamydia?"
-
I dig her, but Watkins would Barbara Walters her under the table.
-
would that be any more relevant?
-
SO WHAT? WHO CARES?
-
SO WHAT? WHO CARES?

...ass!!!
-
Wow, Kutcher. You suck.
-
uncanny!
-
SO WHAT? WHO CARES?
-
too - you don't want any part of that".
-
Unfortunately it'll never answer me when I ask why Spider-man 3 sucked so much.
-
Seems to be their attitude towards ending every sketch so far. Maybe I need a grape.
-
Man, he really let himself go.
-
Turn down Curly Joe's guitar . . can' t hear a word this guy is singing.
-
Great minds think alike!

Them Crooked Vultures: Can't understand a single word.
by Nosferatu Jones
But Dave Grohl rocks. And John Paul Jones looks DAMNED good!
-
Too damn funny!
-
the teenager who just woke up. Yeah. Hm, not enough likes and y'knows.
-
His fanny with sandpaper?
-
Y'all don't understand!
-
Encroyable!
-
and I'm not even drunk
Emo Puppy or Terrifying Death Cat - which would you prefer as a pet?
-
life imitating art
-
They're cracking up. This isn't dress rehearsal.
-
A sketch about people who aren't prepared and aren't good at what they do, so when its not funny and the songs aren't good it doesn't matter! Brilliant!
-
That's just another Saturday morning for them.
-
liking this already
-
"detective team of Michael Burn and Jeff Notice?"
-
Awesome!
-
Ah, I love it when networks advertise their shows within other shows.
-
I have no idea if it airs on any channel on my cable package, or all those stations I don't get. Is there a USANetwork Canada? I've never come across anyone who's ever heard of it. Thank goodness for DVDs.
-
Maybe they're trying to make it the 7th most popular show on cable.
-
"Sequels that haven't been released yet" - just like the MTV Movie awards.
-
She's made her 2 appearences for the show.
-
NBC, USA Network, Syfy, CNBC, MSNBC, MSNBC, Bravo, Telemundo, and The Weather Channel. They also own the film companies Universal, Interscope, Propaganda, Working Title, PolyGram. They also own the record companies MCA Records, MCA Records, Nashville, Decca Records, Geffen/DGC Records, Universal Records, Interscope Records, A&M, Decca, Def Jam, Island, London, Mercury Motown, Polydor, Verve. Or at least they did at one time.
-
Wow, they know something Harry doesn't. Wonder if Harley Quinn will be in that one.
-
HOLY SHIT. Andy. I need to rewind that. So awesome.
-
Isn't Jett writing that? It's already up for a best picture nod? Grats.
-
or just random syllables strung together in a melody? I must need a new TV, all I hear are the guitars, vocal is buried.
-
Welcome to the world of live non lip synched performances.
-
It's not your TV. It's SNL
-
...oh good, it's not.
-
Is that a record?
-
But still worth it for execution alone.
-
in this sketch? I don't recognize him.
-
and they went all out... kinda.
-
I noticed that they have been doing that alot this season
-
It certainly will be the one that takes the longest to clean up after
-
Which explains why the drums were actually being played.
-
Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta rewind back to that Samberg rant to end all rants.
-
Poker After Dark?
-
The mixing was all fucked up, though. All I could hear was Alain Johannes' leads in the last song.
-
If it contains extended footage of Jennifer Tilly's cleavage.....I'M ALL IN.
-
congrats crazy man.
-
seriously...who did kutcher blow to keep getting work
-
really??? why? did he announce on the show? cuz this was just reported on ew
-
la times is reporting that fox execs havent given up...and if sirius isnt willing to pony up another 100 mil to stern, very good chance he would take the fox offer...just think...stern vs ellen...sparks will fly
-
'cause it was interrupted in the middle of the sketch by a Meg Whitman commercial and then later on there was a 20 second stock photo of the band, like they were making up for lost time or something? Weird!
-
On some entertainment show Friday night, they played a clip of his show where he said some hugely popular television showed offered an enormous some of money and he turned it down.
-
It's late...
-
Wow...Just...WOW. The last two weeks have been so bad..so so bad. Kutcher is really awful. The skits except for about 2(which were short in length/Weekend Update skits) were truly awful. The last two weeks musical guests were bad (Vultures should be a lot better than it sounded to me). What is up with them barely using the featured girls? I know a lot of people complain about it on here and it's true.
They have these chicks in about 3-4 skits and they are most time non/barely speaking roles. and then you have the overused Wiig all night long. I will not even comment on Freds "courtroom reporter" skit from last week. It's sad when they should use Scared Straight every week just so you know there would be something really funny. I would rather have 10 "Whats up with that" skits in a row than this horrible crap...and that's not saying a lot.
Atrocious
-
Must be a MACHETE tie-in...
And that was the funniest I've seen Andy Samberg in some time...I think "Ranting Rahm" should be a weekly installment...
And if I was Dave Grohl, I'd get me two heaping handfuls of Abby on the way out. He's been around, he's earned it...and the man can rock a sweet silver pony tail. Chicks dig that.
-
Even Hader, who never breaks character, cracked up. He even scratched his nose a few times. I think, only Sandberg didn't laugh.
-
really was awesome.

A perfect example of why SNL sucks and how Lorne has lost his ed
by KazamaSmokers
Back in the day they would never have done Ollie North in a sketch without taking shots at him and exposing him as the traitorous cretin that he is. These days? Pfft. Nothing. They just let it go.
-
(madtv was awful) but at least snl had a reason to try back then.
-
Can any more really be said about the guy?
The fact that this guy has such widespread exposure is a national disgrace.
-
Lame.

Come on... i've been hatin', but that wedding skit kicked ass...
by SK229
That was fucking classic... that's the kind of shit that comes out of left field on this show that I love. I liked the idea that they're a bunch of old guys, but they're a bunch of old guys who came of age during PUNK so they act like animals onstage and are actually more dangerous than the shit they play today. Am I the only one who thought that was a blast of old-time edgy SNL?
-
..when has it ever been? it has always been shit.in its 4000 years on the air has there ever been an episode where a sketch hasn't dragged out to a painfully unfunny point. it has had funny sketches sure from time to time but the show has always been pretty awful. go watch the first season and just randomly select a scene. I bet you anything you land on a dud. they are hitting after 5674 years 90-10 percent good sketch to dud sketch ratio. during the last election everyone was going nuts about SNL coverage. All they had was tina fey looking like palin. that was the entire joke. they say nothing. the show is awful. alwasy has been always will be.

Weaver and Hamm episodes had some genuine laughs. Last nights episode was terrible though. Oh well, bad host = bad show, simple enough formula.
-
SNL is of no comedic or entertainment value. Fire the cast, fire the writers and start over. The show is actually painfully bad.
-
should show up in every SNL episode... Mmmm...Abby...
