FAST FIVE!!

Published at:  Feb 04, 2010 10:50:27 AM CST

Merrick here...

We've been hearing for a while now that Universal was looking for another installment of THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchise - now that's on the way to happening.

Aiming for a 2011 release, Justin Lin (TOKYO DRIFT and FAST & FURIOUS) will direct FAST FIVE (a working title, or a real title?) from a screenplay by DRIFT/F&F writer Chris Morgan. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will return.

The story finds protags Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) as fugitives being pursued by relentless lawmen.

...says THIS write-up in Variety.

Through his Facebook page, Vin recently indicated that the script for this project was actually designed to spread over two films (details HERE). The nature of the above announcement suggests the current deal is for one film instead of two - so it's unclear whether they're simply making single movie, or if they'll be generating one oversized product that'll be cut into two parts. Probably, and presumably, this'll be just one movie.

I'm down for this - but...where's more Riddick?

    WATCHMEN 2

    by president baltar

    Get Ready For Watchmen 2
Submitted by Rich Johnston on February 3, 2010 – 3:00 pm (71) comments
I’ve heard this one rumbling for a while now. First there was the story that DC Comics Publisher and President Paul Levitz had personally prevented any Watchmen 2 projects, because, despite their differences, he believed that as this would be against Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ wishes, it would cause bery bad feeling in the creative community and would be a creatively bankrupt move.

Moore fell out massively with DC Comics, and Paul Levitz specifically, not only choosing not to work with them any further, but scuppering spinoff projects, removing his name from any movie credits and any money due to him from said movies, and taking his one final project The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, from Wildstorm, a publisher DC had purchased.

But in the wake of the movie, Watchmen the comic became DC’s best selling publication of all time. One might say partly because it had remained undiluted after all this time.

But there were moves. A Wizard splash showing DC’s Countdown multiverse had Rorschach as one of the combatants and it was rumoured one of the universes in the DC 52 Multiverse was intended to be the Watchmen world. Instead, Earth 4 became a world inspired by elements of Watchmen and the Charlton Heroes universe but with other aspects such as the laws of physics being altered.

But the news broke that Paul Levitz was stepping down from DC Comics as both President and Publisher, I wondered what that meant for the possibility of a Watchmen sequel. Certainly in a hundred years, you couldn’t expect there not to be one.

Well, it seems to be happening a lot sooner than I thought. I understand now that this considered a pet project of Dan DiDio, SVP-Executive Editor. That he is determined to impress new bosses by building on DC’s biggest selling comic book of all time with multiple prequel comic miniseries and spinoff ongoing projects.

I understand that both Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons have to be offered first refusal before any of these titles could be published. But if they don’t want to work on them themselves (and Alan Moore is never going to agree), DiDio has been sounding out people who might be willing to take on the task.

While some creators are reticent, the argument goes if there are a number of Watchmen spinoff projects, any blame or shame can be spread on many shoulders. The sales are expected to be massive, whatever the hardcore fanboy reaction and such expected sales benefits will be shared amongst the creative teams.

In contrast, not only would Levitz not allow any new Watchmen stories but even the video game was restricted to material in the graphic novel and film, nothing brand new was allowed to be invented. Despite differences with Moore, Levitz has held fast to the committment that the comic is the comic is the comic.

It seems that this may now change.

At this stage, having disowned himself of much of it, Alan Moore is likely not to care. Though we might get an eviscerating blast at some point if this all comes to pass.

Both Jim Baikie, Rich Veitch and Gene Ha/Zander Cannon are artists who have taken on writing chores on books previously written by Alan Moore, to continue the storyline. The most creatively-acceptable solution would be Dave Gibbons writing and drawing new Watchmen titles. But DiDio’s plans seem much larger than just one book.

And of course, in those initial movie contracts with Fox, there was a clause that included sequels to a Watchmen movie.

When asked, Dave Gibbons only replied “Hurm…”

    FAST $ THE FURIOUS

    by khjll

...I sent this to AINTITCOOL on 04-06-09...I still have the E-MAIL...I need someone to get a hold of Cohen, Justin Lin, The produces, chris morgan, or Neal H. Moritz or Universal pictures. I wrote this all this afternoon under the review of Fast and Furious on the Entertainment Weekly web site. Think this is how they should approach the sequel and tentpole for 2010.

I'm a car guy. My only friend to survive high school Had a Grand National with a 3.5 turbo same as in the movie so I was hooked the moment I saw a high school memory. You could be driving 60-70 on the interstate put the pedal to the floor and still sequel the tires. This film was better then all three sequels. I loved it and my heart was pounding. None stop fun from start to finish. 1 thing Justin Lin and Chris Morgan should incorporate more muscle and diversity in cars. This film started to but I want more. Where the El Camino,a souped up model T, the chopped tops, Diamonds in the back, I want more old school cars, get all the custom shops in the states to enter their cars in the sequels. I hope they are starting another film. Tokyo Drift was as much fun for me as the first. You can do almost any story line in any state or city. Maybe the sequel should be their chase across the country and the western hemisphere. A Smokey and the Bandit type of film. But more seriiousssssssssssss

Have the cop agent ben stasiak i think that got his nose broke in this film be a corrupt cop chasing them across country. Make him John Ortizs partner. That's why he botched the arrest. A FBI Heroin dealer. Makes the importing easier and have that be the reason for the villains identity being so incognito. Corruption all the way to the Judge hence the ending.

Another sequel Idea I've had would take place in Texas. Ray Martinez a guy I work with is from Crystal City. He showed me some bad ass pics from a car show in the streets the have every year there or in Dallas. You would just have to make sure everything is big. You could have a slave trade, or the typical drug cartel. Or you could do as the first and third did and start a whole new street car gang and characters in Fast and the Furious 6.
! thing though about the film when Vin punched Walker his face should have looked like a steak after words. I've been sucker punched like that by some one as big. I couldn't see out of my eye for a week. I choked him out after words but not even a scratch on walker.
I buy Adidas Goodyear shoes so I leave tire mark prints in the garage floors that i finish when I pour concrete in Fargo. Looks real cool.

Fast and the furious 5- Have the film be one long car chase like the original Gone in 60 seconds. Have more cameras in the cars that crash so the audience feels like they are crashing with them . In away like Death proof. I want to see the dam,age from the inside. I'll flip a car.

Fast and the Furious 5- Have the crew at the end of 4 and dominic drive from L.A. to Washington d.c. to get to FBI headquarters to uncover the corruption in L.A. and D.C. even the senate. Huge internal drug operation inside the government. Hence the underground tunnels. O'connor and Dom can stop in between car chases at all the characters from the films hideouts as the tour threw the country. Luda, Bow wow, Tyrese, Blacks, Eva, leaving a trail of crashes.

Have them stop in Texas to introduce the next films characters. Can't get through because they are #1 on the wanted list because of the events in the end of 4. and they don't know who to trust. It would be a great way to tour the country. A Easy Rider shoot. You just need to find as many bridges as possible. You can use the grand canyon as a back drop.Hoover. Every major city and their skylines on the way could be a back drop. The arch in St.Louis. Every city has there lit bridges and skyscrapers

Shoot most of the film at night so you get to capture the lights on all the buildings, Memphis if I remember looks cool at night. Atlanta, Call the film the Furious. Dom pissed and furious because he got @#$*again. gotta wreck a car like in Freejack. You could have all the drug dealers on their trail to. like No Country For old men. What happened at the end was set so dom was murdered when he got to his destination. Have a Drug lord hit set out for them. 10,000,000 and head.

The hit man know where there going because they run a lot of the races and know everybody. Threw the drug cartels and chop shops. Its a great way to blow up some of the hide out they stop at forcing Black and gibson etc. to tag along to D.C.

Have the country rooting for them as its a country phenomenon on tv people can't get enough crashes like Nascar. It reason to watch they can't wait for the next crash on t.v.

The guy that gave me half of my tats on my back K hjll down my spine and harpers feet was named Lil' Rico. That would be a good name for one of the characters you could introduce in the film in Texas.

Every body call me smokey at work that would be another good name for a character. I know Friday hence the name. But fast is smoken.

I went out and bought the Soundtrack off I tunes best buy didn't have it. Perfect beats. All though I liked all the soundtracks of all the films.

Harper is jumping and bounce in her jumper right now to Bang. Shes only shes only 6 months so she does no the words which is good if you heard the song. She love the beats to . Come on bounce.

You could also introduce a Native American street car gang. Have it be one of the stops maybe by Las Vegas. Because the Feds have less if no Jurisdiction on the reservations.

Is there anyway Lisa or Entertainment weekly can. Have justin lin, Universal, Chris Morgan,Neal H. Moritz production or the producers of the film to look at my outline for the next two sequels. They could have the next film be a tent pole for 2010. I know its the perfect Idea. Please can anybody help.

I have a cousin named Looney who's in prison. Looney would be a good name for a character. You could have the characters switching cars or customizing their cars for the terrain they are going to be racing across. Have them stop at Lucas blacks and Bow wow hideout to get drift modes or cars for the Rocky mountains or the hills in Tennesse or Kentucky. With all the sharp turns high wire driving. No spam just my e-mail.....

I Have A Great Pitch For Them

    by media messiah

I hope somebody at the studio will be crazy enough, and adventuresome to allow me to pitch it. I loved "Tokyo Drift" and thought that the original film was cool, however, I refuse to watch the second film, as the scenes I have seen...just don't play well, and I thought the 4th film was fun, but somtimes confusing--though I loved the ending. I am a follower of Justin Lin, and think he is the next big thing as a director, or can be.The problem with the F&F franchise is that it is not growing in scale, at this point--and is not showing signs of something worthy of a blockbuster film franchise...should be here, within the story arc, and character arc--though, I have a way to do it, without raising the budget one bit. What is this secret? It is a story device that I have had for years now, and have been wanting to see it on the big screen. This story device, or Mcguffin, really is a great high concept, and will instantly give these characters a reason to exist, beyond just stealing cars and staying above the law, which is fun, but a concept that is running out of steam. I have something that will give them, the characters, reason to use their skills, with great purpose, something that will have the press and the audience talking, and get them re-invested in the story, a story with much higher stakes!!!

    I blame Stallone

    by hongkongcavalier

Isn't he The Grand Poobah of Sequels with Rocky & Rambo? Lucas is right there, but at least he has the "it was MEANT to be 9 chapters" excuse. Speaking of The Egotistical Descendant of Frodo, maybe he should hook up with Jackson & Cameron for the next 3 installments? Just sayin' ...

what no Lucas Black? COME ON!!!

    by maniaq

Walker's character is kinda interesting but Black was WAY more interesting in Tokyo Drift than Diesel's efforts throughout the entire franchise - COMBINED!
ok maybe you need the name to put some butts on theatre seats, but surely there's still ROOM for Black in there somewhere?
jus keep Tyrese Gibson the fuck away from it

    Vin lost me...

...when he turned down the Terminator reprisal, and we got a shitty CGI Arnold cameo instead.

My reaction to the first film:

    by revenge_of_fett

"I liked it better when it was called Point Break"e then each installment has gotten better and better as far as I'm concerned. The ending of the last movie was cool as fuck!I can't wait to see where this series goes.

    FAST AND FURIOUS: CANNONBALL

    by mcvamp

I think this is the way to take the series. Every surviving character in the F&F series in a screwball comedy about a cross-country road race. Also starring Emile Hirsch, Derek Luke, Gary Cole, Kenny Rogers, Burt Reynolds, Terry Bradshaw, and Jackie Chan. Special Appearances by Jason Statham and Kurt Russell.
