* “American Idol” went head-to-head with “Modern Family” for the first time. Both fell (as did “Criminal Minds” and the repeats of “SVU” and “Gossip Girl”) but “Idol” fell more. To merely spectacular ratings.
* “Human Target,” preceding “Idol” instead of following it for the first time, plummeted to a series low of 2.4, even lower than its 2.9 Sunday debut. More viewers were watching the 8 p.m. “Modern Family” repeat and a CBS special about commercials.
* Newly cancelled “Ugly Betty” hit its worst Wednesday score to date.
* “Betty” still beat “Leno” at 10 p.m. The final Wednesday edition of “Leno” confirmed NBC was right to kill it.
* “Ghost Hunters,” “Seagal,” “Real World” and “Psych” all hit new season lows. “Nip/Tuck” hit its 2010 low.
* The CW’s “Life Unexpected” repeats are doing a lot better than the CW’s “Gossip Girl” repeats.

What a great new show. Really surprised me, and it's consistently funny.

Seriously? From what I can tell, there is the initial stage where the glee is in mocking the really awful singers. Then it turns into an amateur talent contest to anoint the next manufactured pop star. I'm puzzled as to how it can garner such a large audience.

ABC didn't know it had a hit when it commissioned the show, so they pretty much left it alone.
Now that it's a ratings winner, ABC execs will start finding ways to tweak it, and "improve" it, and they will fuck the shit out of it.
I mean, as much as I would like to see Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara wrestle in bra and panties on the show, (and we know that would be a ratings winner...) it would be bad for the show. -
...I never get when they have a successful show and move it to a different day.

Is that the first season? I guess it'd be hard for a Canadian show that aired last year on the CBC, and is now out on DVD, and has since already aired its second season in Canada, to find an audience. Hercules should check it out, given his propensity to crush on plucky Canadian chicks (Caroline Dhavernas, Jewel Staite, Mia Kirshner), as I think he will most likely develop some measure of affection for Erin Karpluk.

And Turketron, "Nip/Tuck" is taking its last handful of episodes to deliver some of the best and most realistic drama it's ever had. I think it's going out with a damn bang. -

Yeah it is limping. When they announced it was going to be the last season, I thought they'd be pulling out all the stops and doing all kinds of crazy shit, but instead...it just seems to be the flattest the show has ever been. It's not like I'm going to stop watching when there are only 4 or 5 eps left, but, really, they'd better have some aces up their sleeves for the finale.

I had heard the BBC had picked it up; thought it might be on BBC America. I guess that's a large part of it only getting a 0.1 rating - how many people even know there's a channel called SoapNET? I do think Herc would like it, although one does need to watch from the beginning. Jumping in 3 episodes into Season 2 is certainly not the way to go.

I've watched it a few times, never found it particularly funny. I much prefer Community for best new comedy. As usual, America disagrees with me.

Modern Family gets better the more you watch it. The gay couple has just a hint of a 'Laurel & Hardy' feel. When they put the baby monitor in and the baby wouldn't stop crying -- and the big guy would start crying -- and his smaller sane partner couldn't sleep because the bed was shaking -- that's funny.
Community has moments of true brillance. The episode with the 'other' Green Day band where the various storylines come together in beautifully twisted musical ending. How often have you seen salsa dancing & scottish music together. Brilliantly odd and fun and funny. -
But Community and Better of Ted are good its just that somethings not clicking with me on them. I like that they are trying but I'm just not laughing. For me really get rid of fucking Chevy Chase on Community theres a reason he's doing TV now. And its sort of sad I bet on the show they are like "man Chevy is really bad, BUT ITS CHEVY CHASE! I know but he's SO awful and unfunny."
