First Look: Check out these sweet studio-licensed WOLFMAN posters from Mondo!!!

Published at:  Feb 03, 2010 11:36:12 PM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. In the last post I made about a series of Mondo posters I made reference to a few super sweet designs that I had seen and would hopefully be able to share with you. Well, that became a reality when Universal approached us to debut their officially licensed posters for Wolfman and the original Lon Chaney Jr. The Wolf Man (my favorite). Check them out (click for super large versions):

First up is Daniel Danger's poster for the new one, THE WOLFMAN (without a space):

Next is Martin Ansin's for the classic THE WOLF MAN (with space):

Both will be put on sale at Mondo's site tomorrow mid-morning and are limited pieces. There are 350 prints of The Wolfman by Daniel Danger and 250 of the vintage Wolf Man by Martin Ansin... and there will be a limited glow in the dark variant printing of 75 pieces of Ansin's work, too. GLOW IN THE DARK LON CHANEY JR.! Yes, please.

All purchase and price details will be found at Mondo's site tomorrow morning, February 4th.

I, for one, love this trend and applaud Universal for licensing these posters as a promotional move for their redo of WOLFMAN, which opens February 12th. The official movie website can be accessed here.

I hope we see a ton of geek art associated with cool flicks. I especially love the vintage classic monster stuff. More, please!

Nice meticulous linework, and if you look closely at the zoom, the untransformed wolf man is in red. Very strong image with a neat retro design.
First one looks good from a distance.

About time Universal paid respect to the monsters

    by planetran_fan

Those fuckers disrespect the classic monsters all the time. At their theme park, they have the monsters atop a 50's style diner holding fiberglass drinks, burgers, and pizza slices, or they have them playing in a stupid song/dance review starring some hack dressed like Beetlejuice. Disney doesn't dis the mouse, Universal shouldn't disrespect the monsters. They saved Laemmele's ass in the 20's/30's.

Going to see it Monday and they'll have a Q & A with one of the makeup guys so I'm going to ask whether Baker got fucked over. God I hope they've re-done that 'eye' shot in the trailer...

    by chezking

Just quit wasting your time bitchin'. Just go to the movie and have fun. It's done in the style of the old fashioned monster movie. How often have we ever gotten that? This is not the kind of movie that you get all sore over. This, is already by the trailers alone, better than most werewolf movies. To think that they took a risk making the movie in this style with the old-fashioned werewolf look is actually pretty damn cool considering the style of movies we get nowadays. So bitching about this is pretty damn stupid.

There's just some sort of beauty that old B&W film can capture with movies like Wolfman and Frankenstein that I love. Damn... especially Frankenstein. I got to see that film again. It's been too long. I hope the new Wolfman and Frankenstein can somehow capture that dark yet horrific beauty.

    Half-Baked Execution

    by grinning white skull

I like Ansin's art but the poster's design is annoying. Looks half-baked in its development and that type is too damn tiny! Also, the Wolf Man photo he used is from HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, not the original THE WOLF MAN (I know this is a fan's quibble but there are great images to work from the original film and this just shows no effort or energy to create it). Ansin is a terrific artist but this fails in the design department. I suggest Mondo contact Texan and excellent commercial artist Kerry Gammill, a noted expert on classic horror films. Gammill also created the acclaimed book on FAMOUS MONSTERS artist, BASIL GOGOS. Gammill is the go-to guy for poster art in the future concerning classic Universal horror characters. Here's a url to his site: http:// gammillustrations.bizland.com/monsterart/ . I'm just sayin'!
