* The final season premiere of “Lost” was up from the series’ fifth season premiere. Even the 8 p.m. “Lost” clip special hit an eye-opening 4.1, in direct competition with “American Idol.”

* “Biggest Loser,” which slid to a special 9 p.m. start to weaken “Lost” and get out of the way of “Idol,” fell slightly, as did CBS’ “NCIS LA.”

* CBS’ “The Good Wife” matched its all-time low at 10 p.m. opposite the dual onslaught of “Lost” and “Loser.” (Look for it to return to first place against “Forgotten” and the penultimate “Jay Leno Show” next Tuesday.

* Also hit hard at 10 p.m. was USA’s “White Collar,” which matched its all-time low as well.

* Fox’s “Kitchen Nightmares,” which pulled a 1.4 on Friday, hit a 3.8 Tuesday. Which makes one wonder (again) what might have happened if Fox ran “Dollhouse” after “Idol” even once early in its run.

* In any case, “Kitchen” was dramatically higher than the 3.1 a new episode of “Human Target” hit in the post-“Idol” slot last Tuesday -- despite having to compete with the “Lost” premiere!

* Spike’s “Blue Mountain State” somehow garnered an uptick at 10 p.m., the only cable original to do so Tuesday night.

same guy, but the show just felt tighter. Kitchen Nightmares US just feels strange in comparison. Maybe if I started watching the Fox version first I would think differently.

I think this season will be much better than the last few shit seasons. During the re-cap though I cringed at some of the awful CG work.

Lost was good! The CG was a bit off, but it went by so fast; who cares? Kitchen Nightmares is fun, and I agree, the British version is a bit more fun. And Jacob does love you Wacky. Almost as much as he loves Hurley.

Kitchen Nightmares : Not as good as the UK version

    by v'shael

but still entertaining enough. Hate the Fox voice overs, and the stupid way they keep spoiling the upcoming segments with pointless misdirections.

But that's common on American TV. I guess the Yanks must like it that way.

Best thing about the US version is that very often the restaurant owners are barking mad and refuse to take free advice from a guy who clearly knows how to make millions in the food business.

Adele, I'm looking at you and your batshit crazy daughter... "Flamangos"... you fucking cuntflaps.

Not that his luck had changed...

    by v'shael

he said he was ALWAYS lucky.

Thing is, that doesn't make a lot of sense.

The numbers came to Hurley because he got them in the institution. If he's lucky, did he get put in the nut house?

And if the island sank, there was no hatch, and no numbers. So no fellow inmate in the asylum.

The only way to explain it is that Hurley genuinely was lucky, and won the lottery with a different set of numbers.

Herc mentions Human Target and Leno in his summary

    by big jim

but I can't find them on the list. On the subject of that mess of an eyesore, I think once the numbers force the row to wrap, it's time to modify the content. By that I don't mean make the text smaller (again). Does anyone really need to see every single week's ratings since the beginning of the Fall Season? The last 3 weeks, along with current week's numbers, if fine with me. If some show hits a season high, or low, Hercules can let us know in the summary. Don't worry dude, we don't need to see the proof, we'll believe you.

Big Jim, I assume you don't have a widescreen monitor then?

Or you run in a fairly low resolution. The numbers are a very long way from wrapping on my screen, not even halfway across if I have the browser window maximised.

raw_bean, you assume correctly - I'm on my laptop

    by big jim

which has a 14 inch screen. I can change the resolution but I like this size on this screen - it looks great for most things, even most everything on this site, just not long rows of inconsequential numbers.

Were the result of the hatch.

But if the hatch doesn't get built, there ARE no special numbers.

    by crow3711

That LOST, after 6 years of hardcore sci-fi, mind-bending time travelling craziness, that instead of losing viewers, its actually gaining them and dominating its slot. 13 million people following a convoluted time travelling story is impressive, especially after so many years. And its going only going to grow, because I know plenty of people are currently watching all the seasons in preparation to be caught up for the end. It's gonna be massive.

Ooops, I misread Hercules' comment - missed the word "last" when he referred to its ratings "last Tuesday". Although it is true I don't know when Fox airs it - I catch it on CTV; they had it on Monday this week (haven't watched it yet but will soon).

That Lost Recap show was surprisingly good

    by thesecondquest

I usually skip those recap shows, but the Ben-narrated recap for this season was pretty entertaining- in particular the end during the Juliet-and-the-bomb scene when the narration becomes almost poetic in it's ruminations on the nature of fate, those who try to defy destiny and the power of free will. It's quite rare that a recap show manages to invoke some serious emotional reaction in the viewers (let alone someone as controlled as myself)- it was actually the perfect emotional note to go off directly into the season premiere, and made the experience all the more fantastic.

... and its actually pretty popular! Smart and popular ..usually don't go hand in hand. i doubt there will ever be another show like lost on network tv ... a show that can be mind bendingly difficult to fully comprehend yet can be appreciated at a low basic level... the writers and creators really did create a unique show.

Good Wife & NCIS has more viewers than Lost

    by tall_boy66

If you look at the way Herc wrote it, Good Wife is on the verge of cancellation, but the reality was NCIS LA had 16.4 million and Lost had 12.4 million and at 10 PM. Good Wife had 12.7 million million viewers and Lost had 11.75 million. Check out zap2it.com for non-bash-out-in-the-head biased TV ratings reports, not Herc's sometimes palpably bitter spin.

I watched three episodes of LOST...

    by jubal_early

...when it came on DVD and almost IMMEDIATELY started laughing. My friends and I wanted to see what all the talk was about, and after that AWESOME opening where you see the plane wreckage and the main guy looking around, it goes into instant absurdity--at least to us it did. Remember where the Iraqi guy called the white guy a racist, and then the white immediately returned, "Yeah, and you're the terrorist!" We laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed. We watched all that was on that first DVD we rented the way most people watch PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE. It was hilarious. Genuinely hilarious. We still have inside jokes about it. If any of us have a disagreement, we shout, "Yeah, well you're the terrorist!" and instantly the tension is broken. I can understand the addictiveness and the appeal it has for some people, but for us LOST would never outgrow those juvenile beginnings. (P.S. I am glad however that LOST has the balls to go off the air at the height of its popularity, as opposed to lingering like THE X-FILES did, with each successive episode handing out exponentially more questions and rarely ever answering any mysteries from past shows--it all just got so convoluted, which, as I understand from many LOST fans, LOST has gotten too. HOWEVER, at LEAST it's bailing out now.) Anyways...we're all just floating...
