AN AIN’T IT COOL EXCLUSIVE!! Meet AMC's Season-Three Key Art For BREAKING BAD!!

Published at:  Feb 03, 2010 8:27:23 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Find the Times Square-size version here. (Allow 10 minutes to download it.)

I’m told this will appear nowhere else until Feb. 8, when it goes up in Times Square. It will replace the current billboard; that billboard makes less sense since the White House asked that the Obama ad be removed:

    Best show on television

    by toe jam

I'm highly disturbed by Walt's transformation into an utterly vile human being, but that's just part of what makes "Breaking Bad" one of the most compelling series on TV. As much as I loved "The Shield," that's one complaint I always had about that show. They had Mackey perform one truly horrible act in the first episode (killing Crowley), but then spent the next seven seasons having him skirt the line of good/bad. I can't recall Mackey ever doing anything THAT bad again. Walt, on the other hand, has become a truly dark character for whom it's become rather hard to root for. I'm not sure about the Times Square marketing for the show, though. I kind of hate it when ad agencies create a campaign that really has nothing to do with the content of the show and makes little to no sense within the context of the show. That poster pictured above is just that.

Cracking show - but man it'll be difficult to top that last season. Great plotting, writing, performances all round. So what do we have coming up? The cartel beginning to move in, the DEA sniffing around and the traumatized brother in law; interminable wrangling with Skyler and no doubt her pain in the dick sister (the women do consistently exceptional work); Walt's relationship with his son Jr, and his grief-stricken faux-son Jesse in rehab...Shit, is it March yet?

Knowing that Bob Odenkirk's character is returning

    by skimn

makes me anticipate season 3 even more. Yes, a few episodes from season 2 became a "Jesse gets in major fuck up, Walt engineers way out" formula, but they were still enjoyable. And the second episode with Jesse and Walt trapped with Tuco's grandfather (ding, ding) wqas one of the most tension filled hours of television EVER.

I don't see Hank participating in Walt's business

    by toe jam

He may be brash and slightly obnoxious, but he's too moral and upright to deal drugs. And what motivation would he have? He's depicted as a good earner who doesn't need extra money.

    "Grilled"

    by toe jam

Was probably the best single episode of any series on TV within the last few years. It was the episode in which Walt and Jesse were kidnapped by Tuco and taken to that house with Tuco's old uncle -- the guy with that bell. Great shit.

Hank is very anti-drug, pro-law enforcement

    by skimn

so seeing him join in with Walt would be a wild stretch...buuutt..the seeds were planted when he was the sole survivor of the bomb attack. Will he have a change of conscious, maybe playing both sides of the law to insure his safety?

The premise of the show has been that Walter White is a sympathetic character, driven by circumstance to do bad things. The way it stands now he's used up all of that sympathy. So who is he now? Where does it go? It's either got to be really, really dark or completely wuss out. I guess we will see.

    by boxcutter

Magnificent introduction to the series. Another boil on Walt's ass. Captzeep - it's going to get darker...Walt has left so many people in the shit - the school janitor, his family - people are dead because of the conscious choices he made - Jesse's useless hoppers and sellers, Jesse's girl (cue chorus: where can I find a landlord like that?). That Biblical climax to the last season means worse retribution and suffering is on its way. And yet, there's a part of me that roots for him as he digs his way in even deeper.

That Walt is doing all of this stuff for his FAMILY, and they're not even with him any more. Walt's big deal coinciding with when his child is being born is the DEFINITION of good writing. And goddamn if that scene of him punching the hand drier in the bathroom when he learns his cancer is becoming benign isn't incredible. He WANTS to be like this.

    by _maltheus_

This show got right what Dexter get's wrong (although they may be finally addressing it on that show). It follows the descent of a character, rather than trying to portray a dark lead in a shining light. We're grown ups, we can handle it.
