* “The Bachelor” hit another season high.

* “Leno” hit a very low new Monday low. Shows that beat it at 10 p.m. this week included CBS’ “CSI Miami,” ABC’s “Castle” repeat, USA’s “WWE Raw” and the History Channel’s “Pawn Stars.” Blame at least some its sad Monday fortunes on its new Monday lead-in, “Heroes.” “Leno” produces its last Monday episode next week.

* Since moving to 9 p.m. “Heroes” has hovered below the 18-49 ratings averaged by NBC’s weaker Thursday sitcoms in recent weeks. Only “Leno,” “Dateline,” “Mercy” and “Law & Order” stand between “Heroes” and the NBC ratings basement.

* “Chuck” continues to lose audience, putting into question how long it will remain one of NBC’s bigger draws.

* “One Tree Hill” matched its season low. Its new CW sister, “Life Unexpected,” continues to lose ground.

* “24” slipped again, but its lead-in, “House” slipped more this week.

* TNT’s Ray Romano project “Men of a Certain Age” continues to plummet, but already has its second-season order.

* “Damages” looks doomed.

Damages is a shame, as it's not a horrible show. There's much worse on, for it to be in last place.

    Damages? Holy frak!

    by newc0253

sweet jesus, how the frak can Damages be so low-rated? No doubt it's a difficult show for a newbie to get into, but so are lots of shows i like & most of them don't gutter in the ratings quite like this one, unless they're stuck in a death-slot like Dollhouse.

also, I know season 2 was a little too convoluted for its own good but it's still a great show & I find it hard to believe its audience evapourated so quickly.

hell, I'd tune in every week just to watch Rose Byrne read from the phone book.

    Damages...

    by v'shael

Look, I LOVED season one of that show. I eagerly waited for Season 2. And it was SHIT.

    BORING BORING SHIT.

To the extent that the second half of the season is still on my Tivo, unwatched.

So when season 3 started, and I realised I hadn't even been interested in finding the time to see how season 2 played out in the last few months? I just couldn't give a shit.

That's just my experience, but the shocking low ratings means I'm probably not alone in this.

    Idiots Who Keeping Dissing Neilsons

    by shoe1985

This is how networks see how a show is doing in demographics. Advertisers use this data to determine if they want to air their ads during a show. If the ratings are too low, they may air their ads, but a lower price. And networks are out to make money, like everyone else, and if ad revenue drops, they cancel the show because it usually comes from a low rated show.

Keep watching online, but online ads do not pay enough in ad revenue, probably never will.

As for people who pirate shows, if your favorite show gets the can, it is your own fault for not watching it first run. Networks don't make money by people not watching on their networks.

dont start shit about a subject you clearly haven't got a fucking clue about.

Neilson ratings dont include anyone outside of the US, anyone who hasn't signed up to be a part of the polling (which is usually just a written form stating what shows you watch and when, which could be whatever the hell the testee wants.), or someone with a neilson box in their house.. and i haven't got a clue how you get one of them.. all i know is that you could just leave your TV on and it feeds ratings, you have to hit a button every so often..

Does Chuck's numbers take into account the fact that Canada is playing it one day earlier. I've been watching Chuck on Sundays. Or more literally, I've been DVRing it on Sundays and watching it when I get the chance later in the week. Still love the show and hope it sticks around.

Not that this is necessarily the proper venue for this observation, but...

I've been reading The Late Shift, because of the recent Conan fracas, and it's hard to deny that Leno deserved the Tonight Show. Or he deserved it at least as much as Letterman.
And, to top it all off, Letterman made the extremely dick move of trying to force Leno out a year and a half into his run. Like, really, that one is hard to defend. It's sort of like the recent situation, only it didn't work out. And if we all hate Leno for the recent situation, why not hold Letterman to the same standard for what he tried to pull?

I seriously hope that Damages isn't doomed. It is seriously good television. Season 1 was gripping. Season 2 did meander a bit but that twist finale knocked me sideways: never saw that coming. Season 3 looks to be just as entertaining. It's a real shame when quality shows end too soon and Damages is a quality show.Let's hope those ratings pick up.

FX's 10 o clock series that are repeated at 11

    by skimn

Such as Damages, Rescue Me, NipTuck, and the rest...are those 11 0 clock numbers added, or taken into consideration also? And kudos to TNT for renewing Certain Age. When I heard of it, I was reminded of Mike Binder's Mind Of A Married Man (what is it with stand-ups and mid life crisis?), but that was very bitter in its tone, where the balance in this series is near perfect. Andre B's character has become my favorite, but dude, please hide the man boobs...

    Damages is a good show

    by veritasses

It’s got a strong cast and it’s well made. Certainly better then most of the stuff on TV. However, it’s a far cry from the brilliance of season 1.

The creators of Chuck have made some radical changes/reversals to the characters and relationships. In doing so, they sort of diminished the unabashedly charming elements of the hapless geek(s) living a fairytale/nightmare life in a superhero’s world, which I thought was the best part of the show. Nevertheless they’ve done a praise worthy job of keeping the entertaining value despite the major changes. It’s good and I like it but like Damages, it’s not as good as season 1 IMO.

24’s taking steps in the right direction by limiting the offensively stupid (to put it kindly) situations, transitions, characters, dialog etc but the writing is still by far the weakest part of the show. While they may have improved the logic (somewhat) on how they get from point A to point B, the stories still lacks intelligence. I don’t mean intelligence in terms of logic per se but more along the lines of what they’re doing with Bauer and telling a smart, compelling story.

Bauer is such an amazing deep, rich character, maybe one of the best in a TV action drama that we’ve seen in a long time. Yet the stuff they have him doing - and in some cases, not doing - is disappointing to say the least. This should be Jack’s story, going toe to toe, matching wits with someone worthy/better then him and having him hunt his prey and being hunted etc, etc. Most of the other characters are so weak in comparison they shouldn’t even be around, but even the “good” ones serve more as distractions and despite whatever cliffhanger situations they might be in, hurt the overall momentum of the show.

    by toonol

Don't worry; you're correct, and some of us actually understand.

Nielson ratings work well for what they're intended for; measuring the viewership of ADVERTISEMENTS. Advertisers don't care how many people watch the show online; they don't care how many people watch in other countries. They care how many people will see their ad.

Ratings are not a measurement of a show's true popularity, they aren't claimed to be, and they aren't intended to be.

    @Shoe

    by mooly

well, technically they have no real way of knowing who is watching the advertisements since people can go to the bathroom, change the channel for a couple minutes, grab a snack, etc. The system is flawed from the get-go. But I think everyone here can agree that networks need to find a new, more realistic way to measure viewership in light of monder TV watching habbits. It seems that more shows are getting cancelled than ever and ratings are always the excuse...yet the shows have strong, loyal followings for the long term. So while ratings for live viewership are low, people are watching in other ways as well as buying DVDs. There needs to be a way to take ALL this into account. Or, networks just need to be realistic and lower their advertising rates if they want to stick with Nielson's system. But what are the chances of these corporations being realistic or logical?

And then in the final 2 minutes, they cut to the Heroes writing room and everyone takes a dump on Tim Kring's chest and then commit Hari Kari. Seriously. Gave up on Heroes

the season before last I think. The last time I bothered was the villains storyline.
But seriously I personally gave up on NBC after the whole Jay/Conan thing.
I have hulu'd The Office and Chuck though.

Haven't been digging this season much, but that was one of the best episodes to date. Possibly, the best.

So NBC paid $45 million to Conan...

    by heresy

...so they could showcase an idiot who can't beat fucking 'Pawn Stars'? And these executives still have their jobs how?
