Mondo's got two rad new posters! Current horror time! House of the Devil and Frozen!

Published at:  Feb 01, 2010 2:01:16 PM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here sitting in my LA hotel room trying to fend off the Sundance AIDS that has apparently overtaken every single person who saw at least 2 movies in Park City over the last 11 days. I'm not ready to call this Captain Tripps yet, but I think a Coldbuster at Jamba Juice is in order.

Blah-blah-blah... you don't give a shit about my clogging sinuses, what you want to see are the two new rad posters from those geeky geniuses at Mondo. They're moving in on some officially licensed posters for current films now, which I love.

Yeah, they're geeky, sure. But anybody who eats, drinks and lives movies knows why Mondo doing these great poster runs rules. Many of them are so out there they remind me of those crazy-awesome Polish posters.

Now they've put out limited runs for Adam Green's Frozen (done by Kevin Tong) and Ti West's House of the Devil (done by The Silent Giants), which was a big hit at last year's Fantastic Fest. Both are 18X24, run you $25 and are very limited. Frozen is limited to only 65 prints and House of the Devil is 100. Click each to visit Mondo's site.

Rad, right? I've gotten a peek at some of their upcoming designs and... well, let's just say that I can't wait to share them with you (let alone frame them and proudly display them on the office wall).

yeah these are cool, I guess

    by god's brother

But they've raised the bar so high with their stuff that i actually think these kinda blow by comparison. Not up to snuff

    What's the big deal?

    by cobb05

No one really saw The House of the Devil, which was an ok movie. It looked like a late 70's early 80's movie, which was cool, but the movie was boring as hell and had a weak plot. Frozen looks ok, but it makes no sense either. No one would get stuck on a lift. They check them. And you would think if there were dangerous wolves in the are, no one would be skiing there. So what's the point of these posters? It's not really going to get more people to see these movies.

Though I'm afraid my current fiscal embarrassment limits me to right-click - save - and enjoying these posters as jpgs to use as computer wallpaper. Thank gods for jpgs though ... I can carry my collection of thousands of cool poster images on my key fob.

Love Polish posters. I just bedecked my 2BR apartment in about 15 pieces of art from wrongsideoftheart.com. My former roommate works at a print-shop and got me a discount on poster-quality prints, which I framed in some simple black Ikea frames and hung yesterday. I got the Polish poster for The Changeling, which is some trippy ass shit y'all

I was impressed by that movie. The score kicked ass and the long shots with slow zooms were perfect.

    Sheesh! These are posters?

    by grinning white skull

They are kinda'/sorta' college Saturday Movie Night geeky but not well designed enough to be worth $25! The girl in the door of the house is terribly done (the graphic just pasted over the doorway and doesn't even try to fit!). The wolves or wild dogs in the lower section of the FROZEN poster looks like an afterthought tossed in (as if unsure if to trust if people got the blood painted all over the ski lift chair and as if they were afraid no one would get that either). The dogs aren't even drawn that well. Cheap execution all round.

    House of the Devil sucked!

    by iamhere

That movie was so horribly paced with absolutely no pay out at the end. Loved the concept and the look of the movie but everything else sucked devil balls.

    Bass Ackwards

    by the reluctant austinite

Mondo Tees is located (and in fact is part of) the Alamo Drafthouse. So, yes, AICN does have a relationship with Mondo Tees in the same way they have a relationship with the Alamo. I seriously doubt anyone at AICN is getting a cut of T-shirt/poster sales. however. It's more of a "home team" kind of thing.

HoD - "Nothing happens" ? (SPOILERS)

    by reportabuse

I keep hearing complaints that HoD had "nothing (or not much) going on," no payoff, etc. Did these people see the same movie? Girl eats pizza. Yeah, a pizza drugged by the Satanic lunatic who has earlier shot the babysitter's friend in the head. No payoff? No, nothing except a murderous, human-sacrificing Satanic cult that gets a demon-entity to impregnate our heroine with the Antichrist (or something.) Yeah, how dull.

Did you see the same movie? Can you explain the importance of the first 15 minutes or so (you know, where she walks around a lot, gets annoyed at her roommate, eats pizza, checks a job board listing, waits on some stairs, etc.) to the narrative? And please don't say the movie required a whole act to establish that she answered an ad for a babysitter.

    by revenge_of_fett

I thought it was a unique concept aptly made. Let's face it vampirism has been exhaustively expliored so the mere fact they were able to come up with new ideas in that genre is impressive enough. The fact that it was well acted, had a cogent story and impresive production design, and was made for $20M puts it over the top for me.

the gore at the end and a unique tweak to the genre. What the fuck was up with Dafoes clothes though. Cause he was turned or re-turned in the 50's means that he still has to cuff his pants like a dipshit?

if your out there...you and I exchanged some words on the topic of spoilers in relation to the Ethan Hawke interview that was posted awhile back in regards to Daybreakers. Not that it matters much but I can confirm that my assumptions on the movie and its potential sequel were dead on.I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong but I'm bitch enough to stand up and shout when I'm right. I WAS RIGHT! I WAS RIGHT!;)
