Lois, Frank and Jodean (Mireille Enos) encounter a border scare in their quest for exotic birds. Sarah gets a taste of motherhood, albeit with someone else’s child. Alby is tormented by his inner Roman, and torn by what he sees as Dale’s betrayal. Troubled by Tancy’s (Bella Thorne) surprising revelation about Margene and Ben, Bill decides that a change of scene might be best for his firstborn son. Written by Melanie Marnich; directed by Dan Attias.

Bill (Bill Paxton) pulls out all the stops in his efforts to win Paley’s (Perry King) support for the state senate nomination, while Nicki (Chloë Sevigny) relishes her role as his campaign’s “secret weapon.” Marilyn (Sissy Spacek) makes a pitch to represent the casino’s interests in Washington, but encounters resistance from Tommy (Adam Beach). Frank (Bruce Dern) picks an inopportune moment to drop by the casino with Lois (Grace Zabriskie) and Jodean (Mireille Enos). Bill absorbs a last-minute sucker punch from Colburn (Tom Amandes), but turns the tide by embracing the Lost Boy in himself. Written by Seth Greenland; directed by David Petrarca.

Valentine’s Day:

Episode #40: “Under One Roof”
Ana (Branka Katic) resurfaces with a surprise revelation that shakes up the family. Bill tries to get Tommy and Jerry (Robert Beltran) to rebrand the casino and expand its advertising into Idaho. Lois and Frank take Ben (Douglas Smith) and Jodean south of the border to visit Don Dona (Mel Rodriguez), a bird vendor, at their collective peril. Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin) worries about the impact of Bill’s future outing on her booming business. With a flourish, Bill shows his wives the family’s collective future. Written by Coleman Herbert; directed by Dan Attias.

Feb. 21:

Episode #41: “Blood Atonement”
With a revenge-minded Joey (Shawn Doyle) in tow, Bill makes an emergency trip to Mexico after Lois and Frank’s latest smuggling escapade backfires. Nicki is jolted by a doctor’s news, but even more flummoxed by Adaleen’s (Mary Kay Place) shocking revelation. Margene offers up a novel remedy to keep Ana from leaving the country with her fiancé. After a scare at the casino, Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and Tommy look for culprits – and find some disturbing answers. Written by Julia Cho; directed by David Petrarca.

Feb. 28:

Episode #42: “Next Ticket Out”
Sarah (Amanda Seyfried) shakes up the family with an announcement, while Nicki makes an all-out attempt to be the woman Bill wants her to be. Margene is put on the defensive when Bill questions her real reasons for getting married. An ill-timed remark at a ladies-only event puts Barb in an unwanted spotlight. Marilyn looks to bring down Bill as his campaign winds down. Barb jolts Nicki with news about Joey that Bill was supposed to deliver. A suspicious Bill looks for clues about J.J. (Zeljko Ivanek) in Kansas, while Adaleen finds them closer to home. Written by Patricia Breen; directed by David Knoller.

    The problem with this show...

    by mono

Is that the writers no longer allow the characters to have any dignity. Bill and his wives have become fools. There has been a change on this show, beginning gradually over the course of last season and continuing to this one, where the characters are treated less and less like people, and more and more like objects of scorn and ridicule. It's a shame, because once upon a time, Bill Hendrickson was a complex character who wavered between the dark and the light. Now he's simply a dumb Utaw bumpkin for other, more worldly characters (and the audience) to snicker at. Pity.

    Wow, Mono, I totally agree.

    by johnnyangel

Bill has become a bad writer's creation who is yanked hither and yon by the whims of storytelling without any regard to his personality or character. I really don't like the turn of this season's plot. Bill running for the State Senate is a ludicrous plot device. Bad, writers! Bad!

    Another Problem with the Show

    by cymbalta4thedevil

The titillation factor is gone. When an HBO show about a guy with three wives stops being sexy, you have a problem. I don't expect the sex to be front and center but it's barely even the subplot it used to be.

the campaign plot device is rediculous

    by brabon300

but is it more rediculous than having a guy believe that it is gods will that he be able to bang his babysitter? best parts of this season were the roman popsicle and alby saying he wasnt gay...just likes to fool around

    Stopped watching some time ago.

    by fiester

Good actors, but it's not enough to carry this any further. The high-concept premise would have worked great as a mini-series, but it's been stretched far too thin to watch anymore without dozing off.

...that continue to save this show. Multiple homicidal women, cameos and compromised gevernment employees are what make this show click. Ramp up the sex a little and this still works. Jumping the shark is not always a reason to stop watching.

This show needs exactly what Dexter needs...

    by mrnightingale

The protagonists (Dexter and Bill) need to get caught. This is the main way these two shows can become fascinating to me again. Big Love has gotten too big (no surprise there), and having Bill on trial for poligamy (rather than running for political office) would be much more interesting. Maybe this is where they're headed, since the politics plotline is so fucking stupid (and I can see getting dragged out already).

Dexter on trial isn't worth a whole season, but how awesome would it be if he got caught halfway through next season. SPOILER ALERT: The single father serial killer who only killed bad guys. Would he elicit sympathy from America? How would his children, coworkers and family take it. Could be an awesome way to go out...

Which brings us to what both these shows really need. An end date. For Big Love it should be this season (though honestly, I might be just done with it altogether). Dexter as well, one (maybe two). Lets learn from Lost and what will hopefully be a great last season due to the fact that the creators knew it was coming. When will US networks finally learn?

Loved it, then got turned off ...

    by reportabuse

...by the writers' insistence on keeping the status quo from ep to ep at any cost. Bill gets wife #4 (the Serbian waitress), she's gone in a couple of eps. Daughter gets pregnant and decides to go to ASU in Phoenix (my alma mater), but that interesting development gets nixed in a couple of eps too. Hell, Margene dyes her hair blonde and they won't even let THAT minor change last more than a couple of episodes. It reminds me of the old days of broadcast series when producers avoided allowing any really substantial changes into the plot, maybe (I speculate) because they could never be sure in what order the eps might be aired and didn't want to confuse the audience. In these days of DVRs, whole series on DVD, and series-long arcs, that logic makes no sense. As it is, I lose any commitment to what's happening when I know everything gets reset to square one eventually.

And where the frak is Rhonda?

    by reportabuse

Bring back Daveigh Chase wherever the hell she went. It's not like she suddenly became an A-lister after "S. Darko" and they can't afford her anymore. I miss that crazy little bitch Rhonda. (BTW I've missed the recent season so pardon me if she's been killed off and I don't know about it.)

    At the Indian comment

    by filmstu2005

Even though thats a pretty harsh statement to make which makes me believe you're probably a white American who's ancestors were directly involved in massacring native americans...I still can't help but agree. The show paints these Indians in horrific light. Do they all have to be methheads, crackheads, cranky bitches and asshole chewers? Gotdamn...

    To clarify

    by edwardpenishands

It's not Indians but the make believe Indians on the show that make me feel that way. I only no one real Indian(not the 1/16 BS everyone says they are) and he is a cool guy. As far as me bearing some responsibility to what some honky’s did hundreds of years ago is just fucking retarded. If I am only responsible for my own actions and not for some bullshit that happened before I was born.
