NBC Gives PARKS AND RECREATION Its Third Season!! COMMUNITY, 30 ROCK & THE OFFICE Expected Back For 2010-2011 As Well!!
I am – Hercules!!
NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” received a third-season order Friday, apparently to lock in a schedule for cast members Amy Poehler (“Baby Mama”), Paul Schneider (“Bright Star,” “Away We Go”), Rashida Jones (“I Love You, Man”), Nick Offerman (“The Men Who Stare At Goats”), Aubrey Plaza (“Funny People,” “Scott Pilgrim”), Aziz Ansari (“Funny People,” “Get Him To The Greek”) and Chris Pratt (“Bride Wars,” “Jennifer’s Body”), all of whom have busy careers away from the series.
The “Parks” pick-up also practically guarantees 2010-11 pick-ups for fellow NBC sitcoms “Community,” “30 Rock” and “The Office,” all of which pull better ratings than “Parks.”

...but good for you on the renewal, Herc. Glad you'll get a third season to watch.
-
...that was part of a probably futile attempt to work the karma bird for another season of Ted.
-
just curious when you watched...i hated S1 and was not gonna watch anymore. caught an ep or two of the current season and immediately had to go download the rest of the season. It's been very good this year.
-
Community however, hilarious. Thought I would hate it but its really grown on me. I want the guy that plays the dean to be a live action Rusty Venture.
-
...season, but someone realized Veronica was where the gold was, because we've certainly got a lot more of her in season two.
-
I watch it most weeks, but only half pay attention. I still like The Office better of the two, and it is not nearly as funny as it once was. I kind of wish they would follow Gervais' lead and end it while it is still good. But they probably have already passed the ideal point and will run it into the ground.
-
those of you who aren't feeling PARKS just watched the first season. honestly, the current season is one of the funniest shows on TV right now. easily. this renewal makes me so glad!
-
The 2nd season has been light years ahead of the first one.
The hunting episode is probably the best half-hour of scripted television I've seen this year. Absolutely hilarious. -

I hope that Community does come back as it's my favourite comedy at the moment. But it seems slightly odd that the NBC spokesperson went out of their way to say that this does not reflect on the renewal chances of other shows.
-
I watched that fucking movie in the theatres and I don't remember what he did at all.
-
...based on critical acclaim alone. Is this common? And how come it didn't work for Arrested Development?
-
It's strange how just last year I felt that Parks & Rec was the weakest of the NBC comedies, yet now I find myself choosing it first when I get around my TiVo. I love the cast and can't wait for each episode to air. I'm glad they are letting this show expand, I think it will grow on people as it gets older.
-
There's some genuinely funny stuff on that show. Community had to grow on me and while it's over-abundance of earnestness can be annoying, I quite enjoy it.
-
Here's why P&R is the best current comedy:
http://tinyurl.com/ybwcfwa
Aziz Ansari, and Will Arnett guest-starring as a psycho MRI technician. I think you may just need to give it time, the humor is really built up around subtle characters like Ron. Nick Offerman is probably the funniest guy on the show, but his character takes time to grow on you. -
The Office is struggling, and i think i know why. Before i get to that, i wish the 'highlights' episode last week was nothing but creed. i'd like to see every creed moment back to back. The problem with The Office is Michael. His character is starting to not hold up, because the kind of person he is on the show was funny, but its gone on so long that now i'm starting to not like michael as a person (the character person, not carrel) His character has become a caricature and i just want to see someone just let him have it and put him in his place for being so stupid, offensive, ignorant, blind and stupid (yes, i include stupid twice).parks is SOOOO much better this season. one of the best changes to the show was the ex-boyfriend who shines shoes. he's become a riot when he didn't do ANYTHING for the show last year. 30 rock is solid but needs more Tracy Jordan--everything out of his mouth is gold. I can bank on laugh out loud moments in community more than any of the four shows on thursday.
-
can't handle characters developing past their initial one-note. Same reason why the British still moan about season 6-8 of Red Dwarf. Though I agree that no series should drag on for too long.
-
I feel exactly the same way. The first season was weak, and they seem to have made significant changes to the characters. Poehler's character was too pitiful, now she's likable. Aziz was simply obnoxious, and Pratt was stupid. Now they're all hilarious.
-
if i can't scuba, then whats this all been about? What am i working toward?
-
michael: this is creed. he does... something.Creed: that is correct.
-
dingbatty: we had the same diagnoses within less than two minutes of each other.Jim's character will always hold up, pam's character will always hold up, ryan keeps being reinvented so he can hold up (for now), dwight holds up, creed always holds up, you could argue stanley and oscar hold their own, but the major problem is that ALL those characters NEED Michael for their characters to bounce off, but michael is a one-note character, and if he can't hold up, nobody else can.
-
Jim is no longer supposed to be funny. I actually like what the writers are doing with Michael (showing why he is a manager, showing he sales talent, etc.), but Jim used to hold the show together by being the guy the audience could relate to. Now, he's just the asshole boss that we all have and try not to hate.Dwight is still consistantly funny. And I put struggling in quotes because I really think it sucks this season.
-
good point on showing what michael is good at... i hadn't considered that... i still believe, though, that he is just too unlikable because of all the ignorance and idiocy we have seen from him for the past five years.
-
I was under the impression 30 Rock didn't have long left.
-
I think Michael, though, is Homer. As I said before, though, Jim is what really bugs me this season. Michael just seems like he always has, to me; an idiot savant.
-
new comedy at the Golden Globes. Because it's fuckin' hilarious, especially Abed and Alison Brie, well the more said about her the better.
-
Is they shot their wad way too early with the season 3 arc of jim getting promoted to Stamford. That would have been greta for later in the series run. Now with him having done the get promoted and go away thing, they are stuck trying to figure out how to balance him having ambition and yet still being in Scranton and it's not working. As others said above, he's no longer the wisecracking relatable guy we knew.
-
Watch Ron & Tammy, and be converted.Yeah, they pussed out Jim. Not a good sign.
-
But NBC still sucks cock
-
She's really growing on me, and I find her incredibly attractive. Still not on Rashida Jones' level, but getting there.
-
But Community is what I'm looking forward to each week. I still think the funniest joke from ANY show this season is the Community gag of Abed's videos of the "cast" being online and just mirrors of previous episodes, but that Abed's videos were posted BEFORE they actually happened. I'm butchering this in the explanation, but those who have seen it know how wonderful it was!
-
the show is surprisingly good. and being a former community college student myself, the humor is all the more relatable to me.
-
The P&R cast must work dirt cheap for NBC to keep them around considering the abysmal CW like ratings they bring in.
-
...is being appreciated by so many here. I have no perspective. I've been teaching community college for 12 years, and it kills me every week.
-
out of that group and all of current broadcast tv for that matter. Unlike The Office, it utilizes all of it's supporting cast like a true ensemble. Glad it's coming back!
-
Hopefully all four shows come back. Community is just great and found its voice very early on and all the cast members bring something to the table that I enjoy. Parks and Rec is certainly the most improved show of the year, one of the most improved shows ever. Season 2 has been gold. I wasn't looking forward to the show coming back after the first season, but I am glad it did. The Office clip show raped my adulthood, but other than that I have liked the season. I like that Jim has a character arc and his arc right now also illustrates some of why Michael is the way he is. When you're a middle manager, sometimes you're hands are tied by people above you, sometimes they're tied by people who want your job, sometimes they're tied by people below you who just aren't good at their job and kill your enthusiasm. All those factors combine to help create a Michael Scott. I hope they take Jim to a point where he figures it out and "beats" the job in a way Michael and other managers we've seen didn't, but I'm along for the ride no matter what. I think the Office is capable of many more years of great shows as long as they keep things moving forward and don't do something horrible like put strains on the Pam and Jim relationship. My understanding is 30 Rock only plans to be around for another year or two, which seems about right. I love the show, but I haven't liked the stuff with Julian Moore, other than when Kenneth broke into her house and made his photo her desktop. I like the characters, but unlike the Office, I feel like nobody has or will evolve on 30 Rock, which could get stale if it goes on too long.
-
Between the new comedies on ABC on Wednesdays & NBC's Thursday lineup, not bad at all. Cougar Town is a lot better than I expected. P&R has really improved, also. The Office should be winding down by next season. Community is getting better, too.
-
Played 10x better than another rerun.
-
I find it that much more puzzling coming from a show like the Office considering how much content the show makes that they don't put on TV. The DVDs always have deleted scenes and storylines, they make webisodes, etc. Why not make a clip show out of that stuff that has never been on TV? Do we really need to be reminded that Jim and Pam just got married a few months ago? Either that or if you're trying to keep costs down make an episode that focuses on a smaller cast of characters. They've had good success with throwing two characters into a car to make sales calls, etc. The actual plot they built the clip show on could have made a good episode by itself. I loved Toby's reactions when he had to pretend the office itself was such a wonderful place. I liked the idea that Michael had to make the company look like more than what it is to try and impress a potential buyer. They could have had more Toby and less clips and still come away with a cheaper yet gratifying episode. Even if the show stays great, I think many people will point to the clip show as the cat fucking, bed shitting, shark jumping moment from now on. You'd think the Office show runners would have enough sense and clout to not do something like this, even if their bosses are NBC executives. If you must make a "clip show", why not base it on the production of the "documentary", where reviewing clips would actually be something logical to the storyline? Since this show has been on so long, they could make a few gags on the idea that the public is years behind reality. People could constantly ask Pam if her wedding to Roy will be on the show, or if she is upset Jim moved away. Strangers could come up to ask Michael how Jan is doing, or how great it is that he finally found his soul mate in Holly, etc.
-
I find it interesting that you comment on how great the cast of P&R is and i do not disagree at all. But in my book, if the issue is about a brilliant ensemble of characters, you gotta attach that to community above the other shows... such a unique blend of characters that have been established so early into a show's run. there is not one character on community that i feel drags it down in any way. they're all incredibly likeable and so different from each other, and they all play their own roles. community is the one i watch immediately on thursdays and the rest (that i also love) i watch whenever i get to them.
-
That's all I have to say.
-
At least the last episode was. Didn't crack a smile once.
It still has a lot of potential, but it needs more Alec Baldwin and Will Arnett and less Tracey and Kenny. Shit, just give Donneghy his own spin-off, that would be awesome. -
It's something special; good enough that I feared it might tank because the show is a pretty even mix of slapstick and intelligent humor. Also, I think we can all agree that more Creed on the Office is a good thing.
-
They put all their eggs in the basket, of that lantern jawed freak, and now their prime time schedule is shot.
-
It's from another studio firstly, and secondly, NBC traditionally axes one Thursday comedy to make way for a new one.
-
If you watch Community then chances are all you do is sit around and watch TV all day. you dont have any standards. its a cast full of generic hacks and comedy straight out of a Teen movie, just with semi-adults.
-
Parks and Recreation stinks in comparison (terrible cast, weak, unfunny writing) - Community is the far stronger show. Actually, it's now better than The Office, which jumped the shark at least two seasons ago. NBC would be stupid to lose it - it and 30 Rock are the only things it did right this season. The rest of their programming has been atrocious. If Community goes I won't watch anything on NBC anymore (not even 30 Rock - that I'll download).
-
I love all four of these shows. That is all.
-
I've given Community a try several times, and it didn't appeal to me. Maybe it's because I used to love Chevy, and then he made so many terrible films. Now I read all these opinions of people who love Community, and I thought I'd give it another shot. UNTIL many of those Community lovers wrote that P&R sucks. I guess the 2 shows are for very different audiences. I mean, if someone thinks P&R has a terrible cast and weak, unfunny writing, then how would I like anything they like? SlimButNotreally got it right.
-
I love 'em both. Not every episode of Community is excellent, the last one was a little weak, but it's usually laugh out loud funny. And not in the internet sense, where maybe you crack a half smile as you type "LOL".
Give it another try! -

Although nothing beats the first few seasons of The Office. I think part of the problem is Jim. He's become too serious.
-
i was on the creative team that orginally came up with the series (our original plan was to involve a group of school teachers and it was going to be called Teach 'em high). Itès funny how an idea stars and then becomes something n entirly different

It's the highest rated scripted show on NBC. Seems to me like thats really struggling! And didn't Community already get renewed for a second season? Or was that just the full season order I'm thinking of????
-
i'm not saying the ratings are struggling, i'm saying the general humor of the show has backed it into a corner.
-
The talk is about The Office struggling in quality, not ratings. I agree that much of it is due to the shift in Jim's character, but it's difficult for any show to remain fresh that long. Hopefully they'll bring in some more wild cards to spice it up. More shows should have the courage to change out mid-level characters, like when they brought in Andy.
-
that means i can't completely stop watching NBC after all. sorry conan.
-
I recognize that Community makes more use of it's entire cast than even The Office ever did, but I still have to give the edge to Parks. I luv the idea behind Community, it's a great setting for a show, and Chevy being in the cast is way cool but I think there are some basic problems w/the concept. 1.(Oh God, he's numbering his points...I hate when people do that!) Having the main character be a lawyer...yeah, the whole world luvs them - and he's a weasle to boot! 2. The casting of Joel McHale as the lead. I like the guy, he's funny, I realize that previous hosts of Talk Soup have gone on as actors too...it's just that...he's the guy from TALK SOUP!!! And he's still on The Soup at the same time.(?) Yeah, it's smart not to quit your day job a la Pat Sajak - dated late night talk show reference, sorry - but that adds a weird vibe to it as well. 3. Even if you go w/McHale, why not have him be the professor who wanted to teach in an Ivy League University somewhere & he ends up teaching @ the only job he could get...maybe even have it be the same community college he went to as a kid? This way his bitterness & frustration could come from a more real place & be more relatable for the audience. And if Chevy was the old former hippy film professor...? Holy shit in a film can! Just sayin', I think they could've done more w/it, that's all.
-
not enjoying the Halloween episode of Community. You just can't get much more geek than Chevy's costume in that episode.
-
I thought it was watchable the first season, but now it's the one I look forward to most sometimes. Offerman's Ron is terrific.
-
As long as you boycott Leno, you're still remaining loyal to Conan.
-
... the all female spanking episode featuring only Rashida, Amy and Audrey, that hot little minkey.
-
That was directed to me.
-
If there was a "Most Improved" Emmy, it certainly should go to Parks & Rec.
-
Could the try a tiny bit harder to look like they're in Indiana? They put in a few script nods every once in awhile, but it's clear that whoever is in charge for including local flair and personalities and stuff is either not getting heard or not paying attention. Yeah not everyone will get it, but you've got to be brave and let some things just be that way. It increases the depth of a show. Not to mention there are several times where you can see palm trees in the distance when the shoot outdoor scenes. ( which are all way to freakin bright BTW. I've never seen so much "tan" color in my life. ( Well other than in California and Arizona ) Would it have been hard to shoot this... like *anywhere* else other than LA? Well, anyway I'm not trying to dog on the show. The characters are all pretty believable and fun. Seems like the writers have found their groove a bit. The show has really grown on me. Especially the supporting cast. ( Except for the teen nihilist girl ... kind of a pointless character )
