Watch me be like fourth. AAAAAAAnnnyway, Lost rocks, I just wish I had more patience!
-
Dammit, I don't want to wait until Tuesday (and the next 4 months)
-
Because I'm dull and simple.
-
I'm sooo lost!
-
I only had to wait three minutes and 50 seconds to see something I hadn't already seen before!
-
Man, you totally cockblocked my theory post in the other thread here: http://bit.ly/aCvaLM
-
some random old dude
-
This is the only the ip of the iceberg, Aquasha, so just take a pill.
-
No. That's not locke's Dad next to Rose.
-
15 episodes of us watching the Losties 'other life' and then 5 episodes of getting back to the fucking story we want a conclusion to...oh well, going this route does explain why the people who died are able to re-appear and visit people. 2 simultaneous alternate timelines, in one you died, in the other you didn't. Your 'ghost' in the 1 timeline has to wait until you die in the other for you to actually be dead because you're simultaneously alive and dead at the same time. Schrodinger's Cat all up in the hizzouse.
-
Anybody not excited by this is either dead or a total fuckin moron. Let the hate parade begin but know this, all the haters still watch it too.
-
Somebody recap this shit!
-
Can't watch. At work.
-
Why would that change?
-
between Jack and Rose that subconsciously they retain memories from of the experiences from the past 3 years, despite that they've apparently reset everything. Something about the way Jack subtley says, looks like we made it , is very telling. If they follow that route of story telling I think we're going to get a lot of "Don't I know you from somewhere looks, deja vu kind of exchanges." Interesting to see how it will all play out.
-
Jack wakes up after being knocked out right before Jug head goes off. He sees Kate as she pulls Sawyer away from the hole Juliet fell down. Cut to Juliet waking up and smashing Jughead. Fade to white. White becomes clouds as we see Jack back aboard 815. A familair scene happens with cindy appearing and giving Jack an extra bottle of booze. Turbulence. As Jack grips his seat Rose is next to him again reassuring him just as she did in the pilot. turbulence gets worse. Violent shaking. Jack grips his seat and prepares for the worst. but this time the turbulence subsides. this time there is no crash. Jack: "I think we are going to be all right." Rose: "I think we are."
-
First five episodes will be like that
-
give Jack two mini bottles of Vodka, not one? Why would that change?
-
Thanks holmes.
-
Christ, I want this to be fun. Whose goddamn idea was it to send out scenes from the first ep of the season? My cherry, fellas! MY CHERRY!!!!
-
I'm really looking forward to this next season, but they might as well have kept that 4 minutes to themselves for another few days. We've already seen most of it and what little that was new was, while setting up very intriguing possibilities, hardly earth-shaking. We could've guessed that much.
-
I think, from the what I can tell from the recap posted above, there will be slight variations since the timeline was rebooted.
-
Save for ONE reworked scene that ultimately amounted to nothing...
-
PLEASE, I don't have anything here!
-
Chill man. It really is about 30 seconds or less of new information. and its somethign that can be inferred fro mthe title of the episode and last years finale. It's pretty benign footage.
-
because she finds his haircut in this timeline less attractive.
-
thanks old pal.your right. I feel let down, yet excited? Could it be the tex-,mex rolls from Cheesecake factory? Or my LOVE for all things LOST?
-
shouldn't he have a buzz cut( if they want to maintain the continuity..).Even the airline lady ( wasn't she rumored to be a big deal back in the season 1-2 days...only to be nothing??)has her old doo!
-
Not alot of it, but the Cindy/vodka exchange was different and Jack talking to Rose after the turbulence. However, the Pilot's voice sounds the same. (FUCK Matt Parkman.)
-
I reckon will be split between the two realities - one where the bomb went off and one where it didn't - comparing and contrasting them and that they will converge towards the end. what would be interesting is if there's a bleed between them
I'm thinking of the structure of Murakami's "Hard Boiled Wonderland" as a template - actually the themes of that book are pretty similar to Lost's now I think about it.
But yeah this footage said nothing new, which was good cos I didn't want spoilers but I'm too weak to resist new Lost stuff -
Perhaps jughead going off lead to an series of events that culminated with Jack deciding not to get a haircut before boarding the plane.
Anyway I guess this confirms the reboot thing... I was hoping it'd be something different. Let's hope the showrunners do something interesting with it. -
Very intriguing possibilities.
-
obviously they end up on the island. How else explain that NEW screencap of CLAIRE holding a rifle?

The timeline change means different hairstyles and less booze!
by haljordansuperstar
That is one of the big twists. Because of the explosion in 1977, Jack has the hip hairstyle in the new 2004. Meanwhile, the explosion has somehow resulted in a world of alcohol rationing, so in the new 2004, one bottle is a lot of alcohol.
-
WORKS FOR ME!
-
Again, fuck you all.
-

I would have been happy with a "Thanks, Rose" at the end there
by spacechampion
-
Jacob didnt visit her.
-
How would you know If Jacob did or did not visit Rose.
-
Cause they made a point of who Jacob specifically visited in season 5's finale.
-
What with all the alternate reality stuff apparently about to go down.
-
Psst. He can't have a buzz cut in one reality and his regular hair in the other. It's TV. Deal with it.
-
That is one weak ass argument. There could have been more, that we don't know about.
-
Why would Jacks hair change? Surely everything up until they all boarded 815 would be exactly the same. I know all the bullshit about a butterfly flapping its wings and all that, but an unknown island blowing up in 1977, why would that give Jack a new haircut?
-
It's probably because Matthew Fox had some other role he was finishing up which required longer hair, so they couldn't cut it to shoot those scenes. I'm sure they'd realize people would nitpick but sometimes production realities don't lend themselves to continuity perfection.
-
When Desmond flashed back after he turned the failsafe key, he didn't really remember his time on the island. It only came to him in small pieces after he had little "moments" like hearing the song or seeing Charlie. I'm assuming this is how this alternate timeline will work. Jack felt the same kind of dejavu Desmond had when he woke up with Penny in his flat. Eventually, everyone will probably remember the island, and want to know how to get back.
-
Fair explanation. I just cant see production on a show famed on its continuity would let things like that slide.
-
That's like asking why Lea Thompson didn't look the same during the beginning of Back to the Future part 2.
-
Sorry, Battlestar Galactica, you know I love you and Imma let you finish, but Lost is going to be the most anticipated television event ever.
In all seriousness, it's the only show that could even come close to topping Battlestar Galactica as my favorite conclusion to a series, ever.
It's good to be a geek. -
What about Sawyers hair changing between the pilot and episode 2, it gre like4 inches, it's TV, roll with it.
-
Just look at her mouth...one second its dripping blood out the corner...the next shot it's all clean.....hope it's not bad signs of things to come...pray they haven't messed this season up!!!!
-
I loved BSG as well, looking forward to Caprica, mourning the loss (somewhat and at least as of lately) of Dollhouse, but I can't wait for LOST next week. It's the topper on the geektastic pie of TV lately.
-
Ok, really, we are talking about Jack's hair length? What about Sawyers hair growing 4 inches between the pilot and episode 2. It's TV, they are not always able to stick with hair length continuity.
I am excited!!! -
Not only is single vodka bottle different, Rose calms Jack's nerves in this version, Jack calmed her and gave her the line about planes wanting to stay in the air; not the other way around like in this version.
-
Given how self-conscious these guys have been about the lead up to Season 6, is it possible this has been put out as simple mis-direction?
-
Jan 29, 2010 4:04:38 PM CST
All these questions about Jack's hair would be best addressed
by smackfu
by running up to Matthew Fox at the next Lost convention and asking him personally. I'm sure he'd have the answer ready, and not think you were the biggest loser on the planet for asking.
-
It's been a long time since I've seen any of the original "on the plane" sequences, but if you're right, that's a really, really interesting observation. Kind of like the pictures on the wall changing in the house that Miles goes into when we first find out he "talks to dead people."
-
If its a leak I'm not watching it. Fuck that. If it was meant to come out...that's a different story. Someone let me know please. I'm clearly seeing its alternate timeline of the plane ride...but still...
-
the plane will land in LA instead of "crashing" on the island. What the fuck happens after that? I've got no idear.
-
just curious
-
it has an ABC logo and ID at the end, so i think it's sanction. Whether it was meant to come out today or over the weekend, I dunno.
-
Let's not forget that Jack's nuke scenario killed a bunch of Darma people as well as interfered with the sub returning to 1977. Even the sub arriving home 30 minutes late would cause tremendous ripple effects through time, which would exponentially increase with each passing minute, for 27 years. That's a lot of little changes.
-
It will be like "Flashes before your eyes". The alternate time line is happening: The conversation was backwards between Rose and Jack. One bottle of vodka instead of two. Jack's hair doesn't matter.
-
Pretty much all I'm going to throw out about. I really hope, and also don't think, that is the actual first four minutes. It never starts with just a random chaos shot like that did. There is a minute long precursor to that, I'll bet, probably with Jacob. But, that was cool. Cindy only giving jack one extra bottle instead of two is a really nice touch. But, I still don't think that is the true first four minutes. Anyone else with me on that? Do you really think the final season is going to start with some random shot, and not an eye opening or the ocean, or something else thematic. I find it hard to believe.
-
The first 4 minutes were part of an online contest that a bunch of people won today. Only a matter of time before it was posted. I'm betting the whole thing is a nice publicity stunt or it would have been pulled by now.
-
This could be a hoax. Easy. I wouldn't put it past Darlton to throw something like this out a few days early just to throw people off the scent, and also to get them talking at the same time.
-
They're back on the plane! But I thought Jack was going to look around and scream "You're all alive!" or laugh his head off with joy... then go on and realize his life sucked and they all had to go back... AGAIN.
Or else Bernard comes out of the toilet stall and he's Jacob, or Guy In Black, or Bradd Pitt. -
I re-watched the original scene from season 1. Jack's sitting next to the wing in that version.
Also, no Charlie running up the aisle in this new one.
-
Nice catch. He is in a different seat.
-
I wonder if that means he was sitting next to Bernard in this version. I'm betting when Bernard comes back from the bathroom it isn't Bernard, but she refers to him as Bernard, then cut to Lost logo.
-
It is a disinformation thing. (Foiler I think they call it...?) I know I'm not the only one who's been predicting a non-815 crash storyline, and I really hate to be proven right for once about this show. The unpredictability, for me at least, is probably the only reason I still watch this show.
-
I'll soon be driving my girlfriend crazy with crackpot theories and obsessive cross-referencing.
-

guys..dont have an aneurysm thinking about whats gonna happen...
by six demon bag
just enjoy the ride...
-
they will land in LA..but i have a feeling there is gonna be some side effects they wernet expecting..for all we know MILES was right and THEY themselves were the cause of the incident...
-
is reading some of the things fans can come up with. Even if the people who write the show don't go in the same direction, Lost is one show where I read some really interesting and creative fan-generated ideas. Whether or not they predict things accurately or the fan theories pan out is irrelevant to me... the fact that people THINK about this show is something I like about it. That IS how I enjoy the ride.
-
I remember at the end of one episode where the teaser showed Jin speaking ot Hurley in perfect English (during the time he couldn't) and telling him "this changes everything"....and then it turned out to be a dream...
Don't discount dream-sequences
My money says Jack gets up from the plane to go to the john and instead finds a showere stall..pulls back the curtain and...
BOBBY EWING IS ALIVE!!!!

Fact.

NAAAA NOOOOO
BOOOOOTTTTSSSZZZZZ
Here's my theory. Praise AICN
for at least allowing BREAK
tags here. You want something
better, Harry? You know who I
am, just shoot me an e-mail
and I'll develop you a proper
proposal and and we'll talk
costs and time.
Before you read this theory,
you must understand the
following
The producers have explicitly
stated the following 3
paraphrased items in various
interviews/podcasts :
1 - time travel is not a
factor in this show.
Time travel has become a major
factor in this show.
2 - alternate
dimensions/timelines are not a
factor in this show.
Alternate dimensions/timelines
are likely a major factor in
Season Six.
3 - nanobots (microscopic
robot colonies) are not a
factor in this show.
At this point, we can believe
nothing the producers say.
My theory hinges on the
producers having lied in the
third statements above, as
they lied in the first two.
It is logical for them to lie,
as there is no reason for them
to confirm any theory until
their show has been produced.
My theory (as follows) will
explain the following key
points, which will create
inferences to solve all
mysteries across LOST.
KEY POINTS
1 - the origins of Jacob and
his nemesis, the Man in Black
(MIB)
2 - the origin of the
Island
3 - the destination of
Tunisia
4 - the goals of Jacob and the
MIB
5 - what Jacob is and what MIB
is and what the Black Smoke
is
6 - why MIB hates Jacob and
must find a loophole to stop
him
7 - why Jacob and Richard do
not age
8 - why Jacob lights right up
in the flames
9 - how Ben can control the
Black Smoke
10 - how Jacob can speak
languages flawlessly and knows
arts like weaving
11 - how Jacob found each
member of the Oceanic 6
through recorded history
I've posted an earlier version
of this theory at DarkUFO, but
too many readers
1 - did not like the
terminology I used
2 - did not like or understand
the concept of nanobots
3 - did not appreciate logic
loopholes
EVIDENCE WHICH LED ME TO
CREATE MY THEORY
1 - MIB has stated he must
find a loophole, which infers
he must obey rules.
2 - Every "touch" encounter
between Jacob and a member of
the Oceanic 6 was during a
time when that person's name
was about to enter the public
record.
THE THEORY
KEY POINTS 1 - 3 :
ORIGINS
Jacob and his nemesis are both
from the far future, as is the
entire island landmass. They
were all sent back in time to
the distant past due to some
sort of accident involving
time travel, which took
(rather, takes) place in a
scientific lab in the far
future. Likely, this
scientific lab was (rather,
will be) located in future
Tunisia, and the entire
landmass of the LOST island is
the same landmass currently
located in Tunisia, but from
the far future; with the
decades of age it has
undergone, it is
unrecognizable.
KEY POINT 4 : GOALS
Jacob's Goal:
Jacob wants to alter the
timeline so the events that
sent him to the past never
take place.
MIB's Goal:
MIB wants to preserve the
timeline, so something
detrimental doesn't happen, as
MIB suspects it will. It is
possible that in MIB's
original source future, the
island of LOST existed and
therefore an older duplicate
MIB and possibly a Jacob
existed; therefore MIB wants
to preserve this time loop,
but he doesn't deem an older
Jacob as necessary to exist in
that future.
KEY POINTS 5-6 : THE BLACK
SMOKE AND THE LOOPHOLE
Jacob is human. MIB is the
black smoke. Specifically,
MIB is an Artificial
Intelligence (AI) built into a
nanobot (or microscopic robot)
colony created in the far
future; this might not be
referred to explicitly as
nanobots, but it can be
inferred. Therefore, MIB is
also the black smoke. AI are
traditionally set to follow
logic rules (see Robocop,
Terminator, or I,Robot for
basic examples). MIB's rules
include not harming Jacob
and/or the timeline, hence the
first comment he makes to
Jacob about hating Jacob for
trying to change the timeline,
which makes MIB's job of
preserving the timeline
harder, and being unable to
kill Jacob, which would alter
the timeline. The rules
governing MIB are thusly:
RULE 1 - DO NOT HARM THE
TIMELINE
RULE 2 - DO NOT HARM
JACOB
RULE 3 - DO NOT HARM YOURSELF
(cannot self-terminate - THIS
IS KEY!).
KEY POINTS 7 - 9 : AGING,
JACOB ON FIRE, CONTROL BLACK
SMOKE
The MIB nanobot particles,
being high technology from the
future, can preserve flesh.
MIB having given Jacob some
particles can explain Jacob's
inability to age; it can also
explain why he lights right up
into flames; he's actually
become aged, brittle flesh
over the centuries, held
together by robots. Jacob
having MIB's nanobots means
that Jacob is now detected as
a part of MIB; therefore MIB
cannot harm him. Jacob gifted
some nanobots from himself (he
did not refer to them as
nanobots) to Richard to
preserve Richard. This is why
Richard does not age, and this
is why MIB does not affect
Richard. Richard may have
given some to Ben; this is why
Ben can summon the Black Smoke
to an extent.
The Black Smoke can also take
various forms. Jacob has aged
enough that he, too, may be
able to take forms.
KEY POINT 10 : KNOWLEDGE AND
LANGUAGE
Being high technology from the
future, MIB / the Black Smoke
contains a memory database
with the entire recorded
knowledge of human history up
till the point of the event
which sent it back in time.
This database also includes
languages and other knowledge
that one might find in, for a
general example, Wikipedia.
As someone gifted with parts
of the MIB, Jacob can access
this database, which explains
how he speaks so well to Sun
and Jin.
KEY POINT 11 : LOCATING THE
OCEANIC 6
When Jacob visited each person
in the last episode of season
5:
- Hurley was released from
prison, potentially creating a
O6 out of jail huge news
story; RECORDED HISTORY.
- Sayid was at the death of
Nadia; they both might have
died in the assassination
attempt, creating news;
RECORDED HISTORY.
- Kate was about to get
arrested and given a public
police record; RECORDED
HISTORY.
- Sawyer was at his parent's
funeral, which is usually
announced in the newspaper;
RECORDED HISTORY.
- Locke had fallen several
stories, and would have died,
which would be in the
newspaper; RECORDED
HISTORY.
- Sun and Jin were at their,
likely newsworthy (Paik
Industries daughter marriage
today!), wedding; RECORDED
HISTORY.
- Jack was at a hospital where
he worked.
All but one were
publicly-recorded events,
Jack's event, stand out as
newsworthy, but maybe his
patient was supposed to die?
There might have possibly been
a notable lawsuit involved
going forward. If you knew
Jack worked at a hospital,
chances are it's pretty easy
to locate him there on any
given day.
With Jacob able to access the
database from his timeline, he
could locate each of the above
people at their times and
touch them; gifting them with
a part of MIB. Per RULE 3,
this would make them unable to
be directly harmed by MIB, but
would make MIB curious about
them (Why can't I harm this
person!) This would also have
explained how Locke was healed
from death.
Notable, Hurley and Sayid were
touched AFTER they came back
from the island; there is
significance here. MIB knows
that he cannot directly harm
Kate, Sun, Jin, Jack, Locke
and Sawyer. MIB does not yet
know that he cannot touch
Hurley and Sayid.
WHY DID JACOB TOUCH THEM
Jacob touched each to plant
them, as he knew from news
reports (Oceanic 6) they would
crash on the island and
survive. It is likely that
Sawyer and Jin will also get
off the island at some point
and there will be a public
news report about them in
Season 6 for Jacob to follow.
WHY DOES BLACK SMOKE KILL
MIB kills select people as
according to his timeline,
they are supposed to be dead.
When Locke and The Black Smoke
encounter each other, the
smoke doesn't kill Locke,
because he senses himself on
Locke. This is also why MIB
didn't kill Kate when she and
Juliet were hiding in a tree;
it only took pictures.
According to the news reports,
Locke is already supposed to
be dead in MIB's time (from
falling out the window), so
MIB can tell he is a paradox.
This is why MIB picks Locke to
manipulate; MIB believes Locke
doesn't belong in the timeline
and thinks Jacob trusts
Locke.
MIB picks Locke as his
disguise because Locke is a
living paradox due to Jacob's
involvement. Therefore the
concept behind Locke being a
paradox helps break some of
the logic rules which bind MIB
from allowing Jacob's death.
By masquerading as Locke, he
can finally manipulate the
world to where Jacob gets
killed and the AI rules are
absolved.
THE ONE THING I CAN'T
EXPLAIN
I cannot explain how Jacob (or
Richard) gets off the island,
but since my theory is the
island contains laboratories
from the future, it probably
contains an equivalent
futuristic method of
transportation, akin to the
Frozen Donkey Wheel.
I've written a lot here and
there are items I need to get
to, which include WHY MIB can
only masquerade as dead
people, and all the odd
psychic phenomenon from Miles
and Walt, and whether Aaron is
significant.
It's also over on DarkUFO: http://bit.ly/caCQnV -
Just had to say it, didn't you
-
Every season has had its gimmick. Flashbacks for the first few, futureflashes and then the timeswapping. I reckon an alternate timeline is this years gimmick. I fully expect that at the very end of that scene in the video clip we'll get the Lost title card and then get the obligatory opening eye of Jack waking up on the island somewhere.
Hence, each episode to be broken upby the swoosh noise but this time its just 'Look what could have been' !
Maybe even the final scene of the final episode will just be a pan-out from the island into space and then a montage of alternate timelines where Jack, sawyer, Hurley et al.are ll doing different shit in different realities. -
...the plane lands in LA, but crashes into LAX? that would truly be unexpectin...or what if the underwear bomber is on the plane...or what if Eko was the underwear bomber?!
-
they all died in the 70s like alpert said, he's been around like forever so I think he'd know the difference between death and that time travel flash of light that he's seen a few times at that point but who knows.
-
makes the same mistake most weekly fan theories make - the entire theory is based off only the last episode you saw.
-
How can any of you say "his hair doesn't matter", but this or that minute fact doesn't? Bottles, seat on plane, both as minute (actually more) than his hair. The conversation being different I would say is more important.
However if this is true and the timeline is altered from '77 on I have one of the same problems I had with the Star Trek reboot. The further you get away from the change point the greater the differences between original timeline and new timeline. Different conversations and different seats are small differences, there would be changes that would be so great that the fact that a single person from the original flight being on the same exact flight 20+ years later is infintesimally (sp) small. -

My LOST theory: It's a TV show, written by writers.
by stereotypical evil archer
-
What will his role be in either timeline?
-
if you're reading this:
(1) How the heck are ya! (2)It's safe to watch the first 4 min video. Really you won't be spoiled unless you have no idea why 6.1 is called "LA X". Indulge. Do it! Do it! ; ) -
Just....wow! so much to consider. So little time to have to wait now.
-
Jan 29, 2010 7:18:37 PM CST
I'm really starting to lean towards the Island = Spaceship theor
by blhotz
Especially after last season's cliffhanger.
-
Just re-watched the scene from Season 1. Doesn't Locke sit right behind Rose?
The new clip gives a peak behind her...doesn't look like Locke... -
Locke might be already dead in that timeline.
-
Where might one find a detailed description of said theory? It's crossed my mind before. Especially after seeing those panels from Walt's comic book. I just never took it seriously as all my theories are usually destroyed by the very next episode. I've also considered it may be an ancient asteroid or something like that, but I'm probably wrong.
-
Give credit to the actress, as well as the role.
-
So Alternate Jack is sitting on the plane doing the exact same thing as Original Jack until that strong turbulence hits and he's suddenly imbued with all knowledge of his past life. Alternate Jack becomes Original Jack.
-
They will be important somehow. I'm sure about that one at least. Maybe it's Charlie's alternate timeline Dharma rock band or some shit. The producer's did mention The Illuminatus as an influence and in that book the Secret Chiefs ended up being a rock band if I remember correctly (LSD+Pot+Crazy Book=WTF?).
-
I'm on board with your gimmick theory. But you know what, I don't give a shit what happens to these characters in a flashback, flashforward, or flashalternate(?) timeline. The only stuff I want to see is what happens on the island. That's the only annoyance I've had with this series. Most of the time when there was a flashback/forward, I just want to raise my hands and go "Ah shit!"
-
That's really all there is to it
-
Lucas was right. Every saga has a beginning...
-
that's the last 2 minutes from last season plus a couple of minutes from some season 1 ep. at least it wasn't one of those bullshit "this is only available in the US" videos tho
-
You see it when the cam zooms out during the turbulence. He's there.
-
is the WORST...blood on her face...wait...no blood...wait...tons of blood...wait...
-
Considering we're going to be seeing 3 timelines, Here's my prediction.
We're going to find out the bomb didn't do anything later on in the season, lest the Anti-Locke timeline cease to exist.
The 1970 timeline and the 2009 Timeline will coincide by the end of the season.
Something will happen in the series finale to cause the Alternate timeline. Therefore, the show ends where the alternate timeline started. So we had been simultaneously been watching a linear story and however the alternate timeline ends is where the series ends.
It's the new snake in the mailbox, and It's the only thing that makes sense considering Lost's love of fucking with flashforwards and flashbacks. -
I'm really worried the writers are going to blow it with this whole alt timeline thing taking up such a large chunk of the final season. I really want to see what goes on in the 2007 timeline on forward. I'll have faith they know what they're doing.
-
After watching this clip, and looking back on the last two seasons, they both introduced huge conceptual shifts. Season 4 was mostly about a bunch of people who hadn't been in the previous 3 seasons (kind of like Season 4 of BSG which concentrated on characters who hadn't featured prominently in the previous 3 seasons). Season 5 had the whole skipping through time thing, which let them flesh out some of the backstory, but didn't feel like forward momentum. If this is another "high concept" season I think it could make the final 3 seasons look kind of stupid in retrospect.
-
That would be ironic, since after season 3 they had an end date and allegedly were going to me very methodical about reaching it. But I agree. I already feel like I liked the show better when they had a vague idea where they were going. Of course that couldn't have lasted either, but the end of Season 3 remains the series high point. That's not such a bad thing cause it was pretty awesome, but I'm a little disappointed the last couple seasons have seemed almost pro-forma.It's hard for me to judge clearly. I despise any kind of time travel story-lines where you can change the past. I'm just biased I guess. But BSG scarred me for life probably, and I am pretty concerned about Lost.
-
Awesome.

You're right, there are only 2 timelines, but there are three time periods. 1977(prime), 2002(alt) and 2005(prime). Not sure if I have the exact year for the last two, but it is within a year or so. 2005 is on the same path as 1977, with 2002 being the reboot.
-
Here are the differences I spotted (there may be more). Some have been mentioned; some haven't
Here's the original: http://tinyurl.com/y8bmspz
Change #1. Jack's hair.
Change #2. Jack's not sitting on the wing.
Change #3. One bottle of vodka.
Change #4. Cindy has a different shirt.
Change #5. Jack spilled the vodka.
Change #6. Jack makes no mention of FAA regulations.
Change #7. No Charlie chase.
Change #8. Rose's hair is different.
Change #9. Jack doesn't move chairs.
Change #10. The aforementioned reversal of dialog between Jack and Rose.
Change #11. Rose is reading a magazine - "Weekly Woodsman" I think.
There may be more.
-
they go from 77 to 2007 where mib/locke, sun et.all are now. so 77 is gone cause richard "sees" them die. u cant have 2 of everyone running around in 77...i think lol ( ah, time travel ). so they're not there now. so theres 2 "timelines" the alt. 2004 and the 06's "present" of 2007. now, we get to see how all this comes together. im stoked!
-
I wonder- after the blast, in the new timeline, did Jacob still visit Jack and everyone else? Does new Long-Hair-Jack remember getting a chocolate bar from a random guy after surgery? Maybe by destroying the energy, they had some profound effect on Jacob or MIB, causing the Sun/Ben 2005 timeline to be altered because Jacob or MIB is not the same without the pocket of energy?
-
In the PILOT, Jack was the one reassuring Rose, saying "it's normal". Now she's the one who says, "it's normal."
-
That is all.
-
"Hey, lets reboot so we don't have to answer 99% of the mysteries/questions. Yeah, that'll fool 'em." Whaaaatever. That! Is all.
-
ur an typical dumass that does'nt keep up with a show but, constantly trolls and bitches. that is all...
-
you couldn't be more wrong. You'll see. Stick with it.
-
"looks like you found a loophole"
yeah the writers found one. -
from the season 5 dvd Dan tells Jack that exploding the bomb would be like damming a river with a big rock. But if the rock wasn't big enough it would create a different stream around the rock until the two stream merge back into one. I think that is what is happening.
-
It's pretty clear if you read interviews with the writers and cast, and you've seen some of the promo pics (such as Claire with the gun) that the alt timeline isn't a reboot. It'll function mostly like flashbacks/flashforwards. Jack and co. at the Swan site, then WOOOOOOSHHHH alternate timeline then WOOOOOSHHHHH back to the swan site, story progresses from there. Chill out, folks, it'll be okay.
-
I must say, that was quite genius of you. I've been following this closely, and thinking alot about it, and even explained Daniel's analogy to others, and never considered this as an explanation for the ALT. Good work sir
-
Jacob was in the cabin, when it was really the MIB? Doesn't that disturb anyone? Also, when Richard was taking Locke, Ben and the Others to the statue, why didn't Ben say "well now wait a minute... Jacob lives in the cabin, not in this statue here..." Which would have completely derailed the MIB's plan, of course.
-
that wasn't actually Rose sitting next to Jack?
anyhow, Squashua, I'm totally with you! I been saying NANOBOTS since around Season 2 now and when they introduced time travel AFTER they said this show would never have any time travel in it...
...and I know many people believe MIB may well turn out to be Smokey...
love the idea about Jacob's Touch being all about seeding them with nanobots - I must admit I previously dismissed the notion that there was any great significance to the fact he physically touched each of them - but I LOVE the part about the public record! (reminds me of the totally underrated movie Freejack)
btw Jack was also about to go on the public record by performing "miracle" spinal surgery on his future wife, who would be dancing at their wedding - not that particular day, but still...
-and you know who would make an awesome owner of those future (or ALT) laboratories/developer of this timeline project? TWO WORDS and the second one is INITIATIVE -
hey guys new expendables trailer is on jet lis twiiter now. i tried to copy and paste but it aint workin. you dont have to follow him to see it. its easy to find him. just search him in find people. it doesnt look real official but its got a lot of new footage.
-
...crashed thousands of years ago, and everyone has to get off before it completely repairs itself and flies home (last shot in the series). You're welcome.
-
that was painful to watch
shoulda posted this link herc http://tinyurl.com/ydhnecu -
there are all sorts of differences in this clip..Roses' hair is different too...the seats they are sitting in are not only in a different location..but they're structurally totally different from the seats the first time around..also...it seems there are different people sitting next to Rose.
And you can have any myriad of differences in an alt timeline or alt reality...Jack doesn't have to have the same haircut.. -
Your theory does make sense how Jacob and MIB could come from the future and all the weird things we've seen are to do with advanced technology, especially how Darlton were quoted as saying before season 2 that everything could be explained as science not paranormal. But they later refused to acknowledge ever saying that. Did they just backtrack cos they realised they'd given the game away or did they change the game as they were writing it?I personally don't think I'd be satisfied with a future-into-the-past explanation over a more supernatural one, especially as its been done to death and the island as spaceship would suck as it is far too close to Dark City, which even though was a great film and a great reveal had been done before that too.I did think it was weird how Rose was saying Bernard was in the toilet but there didn't seem to be any seats free next to her! The seat was free next to Jack but would you talk about your husband like that to the person who was sitting next to him without saying, "you know, the guy who was sitting next to you?" It would be freaky if he did come back from the toilet and it was Jacob! Maybe that's how Jacob gets back to the island? Or perhaps he was doing a Horcrux type thing by touching all those losties, cos he knew MIB was going to try to kill him, they're all carrying a bit of him back to the island? Didn't Jacob tell MIB after he was stabbed that they were coming? Who was he talking about? Can't wait for next week!!!
-
I'd say thats very possible, except boy would we hear the outrage from the Harry Potter community.
The Dark City reference also sounds good, but I'm really hoping they do not go the route of futuristic-ness. I mean, there is much speculation on the Egyptians receiving guidance from aliens, I really hope it they decide to go all Stargate, they do it better than that poor raped series. (Movie-wise) -
I guess AICN was too busy trying to sell me a copy of Heathers for $5.99 to stop and actually give any credit to DarkUFO for uploading this in the first place.
-
Even though, judging by comments, I know exactly what it is. I'm thinking this season is going to be very much like 'Dark Tower: The Drawing of The Three', where alt-timelines are written, but ultimately everything that has to happen will happen (at least that's what I remember happening). Color me excited. That's right, I said "color me excited".
-
I think maybe the idea is this has happened before, they reset everything, but everything starts to still slide toward the same fate or whatever. The reason why they all ended up on the island in S1 is because they'd gone through the same basic process before, with the same explosion happening, and they end up coming back to the island. As hokey as that is, it's still not as bad as alternate timelines. I really wish to god they'd keep to the what happens happens concept which is the only one that really makes sense to me. But they've been going at this idea that fate will assert itself eventually even if you dodge it initially. It's a stupid idea but it appears to be a big part of what they're doing.
-
I'm SOO fucking sick of this. If you bothered to even actually listen to the podcast, they didn't say "everything can be explained scientifically", it was "everything could have a pseudo-scientific basis, like star trek" aka scifi. They contrasted this as opposed to fantasy ala Lord of the Rings, where creatures and magic and myth are presented with no attempt whatosever to explain anything scientifically. But on Star Trek, in that universe, things like wormholes, time travel, other dimensions, could potentially be one day plausible via scientific explanations. This, and ONLY THIS, is what they said. Is there ficitional, fantastical things on Star Trek and in scifi? ABSOLUTELY. Thus it is with LOST. SO please, STOP STOP STOP STOP with the fucking "everything was supposed to be scientific" BS. There's a VAST, vast difference between "scifi" and "scientific". The fact that they used the word "pseudo-scientific" speaks volumes. Now, please, for the love of God, STFU, and please stop spreading this fallacy around.
-
You're no innovator or maverick; Jorge Garcia during s1 wondered if they were all robots or clones, and I myself wondered if Smokie was some form of cloud of tiny nanobots. I even posted that as a theory on the LOST boards at ABC. So yeah, go ahead and theorize, but don't take credit for this as if its some new awesome groundbreaking idea. Because it certainly isn't. You're just way behind the theories. Sorry bub.
-
How many people have kept up with this show - REALLY? I understand the appeal in this particular site, but who has time to keep a guidebook on how to make sense of a TV show? It is ridiculously convoluted, and obviously made up from year to year. Explanations upon explanations are required, to cover up the fact that there was a complete game plan missing from the beginning. I didn't finish the "The Dark Tower" series, but I think King actually did have a structure in mind from the start.
I've watched this from the Season One, but I don't obsess with the details. Who cares? It's creepy how some of you treat this - I suppose that's what has earned you the title of geeks? -

In defense of the ALT reality against the haters and skeptics
by billboefett
It's not a detour, or a distraction: it will end up being the grand explanation for all sorts of hints and clues we've been seeing since s1. The whispers, for example. And I'm guessing the MIB is from the ALT and wants to get back there, and Jacob won't let him, because the MIB wants to usher in the end of the world. He believes the variables, the 815ers, the numbers, CANNOT change, but Jacob is proving him wrong. I think the island is the nexus between both realities. I think Others are able to cross over both realities. I think thats what happened to Ben when he was taken to the temple and "Otherized". I think thats what the tramp-stamp was banning Juliet from participating in.. becoming "Otherized". I think the timeline we've been seeing since s1 *IS* the 2nd chance, the reboot, the reset, and what we'll be seeing in s6 will be the original, unaltered timeline, albeit in an ALT universe, where we see what should and would have happened had they not messed with Jughead and the Swan at all and left it alone. Think of Jacob and MIB as the war between 2 timelines, or realities. People are allowed to walk around as ghosts because even though they died here, their counterpart has not yet died in the other reality, leaving their ghost 'trapped' so to speak, they are dead, and yet they are here, also, as Charlie said. Even though we know some of the manifestations are Smokie, aka the MIB. And WHH is maintained here. Absolutely. You don't alter the existing timeline, you show a different one. They run parallel, concurrently. There's 2 separate realities. In the season premiere, you'll see the events right after the bomb continue on the island. That timeline is continuing where it left off. But also, the timeline seen here with Jack and Rose on the plane, is completely different. Kate accidentally blows up the plumber PRIOR to the 815 flight. Hurley has nothing but good luck and buy's Mr. Clucks PRIOR to the 815 flight. This should not be, even if it were within the timeline where 815 was to crash. It's a parallel universe. And the island is the nexus between both. To quote someone on another board "The ALT is going to rock so hard because the writers KNOW it has everyone shaking in their boots, and when it turns out to be integral to the entire premise of the show and much smarter than what so many want to assume about it, the payoff is going to make the flash-forward seem simplistic. Count on it."
-
Way to lower the bar there chief. Instead of actually being impressed people have great memories, spend time rewatching episodes, or read blogs or theorize, you want to excuse your own laziness and call us "creepy". Fuck you, fuck off, get a life. Go find something better to do than crap on people who really love and enjoy something and are passionate about it. There's NOTHING wrong with it, period. FUCK OFF
-
...in this clip. He is even wearing the same shirt.
Interesting. -
One way or the other; all of us will have a lot to discuss February 2nd at 11pm EST.
-
I thought too that the whispers could be the losties in an alternate universe and the fact that they mostly come when something is going to happen shows that they are a warning not an harbinger of doom like they appeared to be early in the show. Was that why the psychic kids were needed by the others, to communicate with the alt losties?
-
Seeing all the differences listed between this scene and the original scene from the pilot, it's pretty clear they're going out of their way to make things different. Is Jack's hair closer to his 2007/1977 hair because jughead somehow caused a chain of events leading to a different haircut for Jack 27 years later? Or is it because what we are seeing is filtered through the mind of 07/77 Jack? In the scene Jack doesn't seem to have memories of his adventures after crashing on the island, but he seems to sense something ("I guess we made it"... a somewhat odd comment to make after a bit of turbulence while still in the air. It only makes sense in context with what we know is supposed to happen.) It's almost as if Jack has deja vu. Why would even a fleeting sense of what happened after he crashed on the island be with him in 2004 on the plane? Perhaps it's a dream experienced by the 07/77 Jack. Yeah the dream fake out can be kind of cheap, but it's a lot less convoluted than a alt timeline story could be.
-
some people might want to read what MAY BE POTENTIAL spoilers.
-
In the pilot, she gave him two bottles.
-
Shut your ignorant face before I'm forced to make you look like the asshole you are. Did I insult anybody with my opinion? No, I did not. So why are you insulting me? I'm sorry you have a small penis, but it's really not my problem. I've watched the show each and every week from the very beginning and recently re-watched it in it's entirety. If YOU weren't a random troll you'd know that, because I've recently had some very long and clear headed comments on the series in these talk backs. I'm not a sheep. I don't follow the herd. And I'm allowed to have as much LACK of faith as I choose, whether you like it or not.
-
He didn't get the second bottle because he didn't need it. He only needed it on the island as a disinfectant. Not going to the island? You only need one bottle then.
-
I'm pretty sure you know how I feel by now and I'm pretty sure you know I'll be sticking with it until the very last minute. But they just aren't doing a good job of convincing me the way I feel is wrong. As I've said repeatedly, I WILL be VERY HAPPY to come back to whatever talkback exists after the end of the series and proclaim LOUDLY how wrong I was. But I don't think I'm going to be wrong. The preview only makes me feel even stronger that they're not going to answer a vast majority of the questions/mysteries remaining. Rather, they're going to write around them, making you think "oh isn't that clever". Like I said, hope I'm wrong. At least we actually get to start watching again next week. Pretty happy about that.
-
I think the final season will be about how their lives all suck because they never went to the island in the first place.
They were so concerned with getting off the island, but it's actually a better life for them than if they had never gone there.
Kate goes to jail. Charlie's a heroin addict. Rose dies of cancer. Locke's a cripple. Claire's a penniless single-mother. Jack's torn up inside over his daddy and his divorce. Hurley's bad luck spirals out of control. Jin and Sun cannot escape South Korean organized crime. Desmond's still stuck on the damned island though. Sucker. -
that only watches 4 fucking minutes and makes a complete decision on the ENTIRE SEASON. plus, no patience is a typical trolling attribute. i personally can give a rats-ass about ur faith and that, mr. clear head, is my opinion. BTW... maybe my penis is'nt small- maybe ur vagina is too big?? ever thought of that miss priss?
-
So fucking what
-
hence my humble opinion.
-
Why are you addressing me personally you ignorant twit?! Why are you attacking me personally? Why are you coming back to do it repeatedly? Scared I might be right? I am not a troll in any way. In fact, you very much fit the description. So maybe you should consider doing a bit more learnin' and a bit less talkin'. And by the way, I'm a male. A make who would knock your teeth down your bitch ass throat (without pause) if you talked to me like this in the real world. So go ahead and hide behind your internet anonymity, trick. I don't know what your teenage basement dwelling agenda is, nor do I care. I have the right to express my opinion. I did so without attacking or insulting anybody. From this point forward I will not respond to your ignorant trolling bullshit. Buh-bye now.
-
Give me the last 6 of the season. Then I will sell them to the highest bidder.
-
It's just a stupid idea. Alternate timelines are lame. So as a matter of fact, the more integral it is, the worse it is.
-
well, by god, just how big a boy are ya??
-
Thank you! And they're too convenient, too easy to use to not explain the things people really want explained.
-
Please also see my response to you in the other thread and then get some outside time. Way too serious, dude. Waaaaaay toooo serious.
-
You need to meet at the old warehouse down by the docks and settle this shit like men.
-
and I'M the TROLL? lol wow. i never called u a "troll". i said u were trolling and bitching. should have used a different phrase. but, my arguement is sound. if someone makes a judgement on a ENTIRE SEASON based on 4 freaking minutes is by FACT... AN IDIOT. u have some little man issues if u cant take some valid criticism. i hope ur wrong too. just have some faith. u have been pretty pessimistic i alot of ur old posts buddy. and BTW... i KNEW u were a dude. wasnt that hard to figure out miss priss.
-
You had your complicated twisty plot on the one hand, and you had your pretty people running around the tropical jungle with ripped clothes on the other hand. Which is why it was so stupid to kill off Juliet. She was an example of what kept people watching even if they didn't get the plot.
-
Depends on what we will see Feb 2, not from your pre-speculation. Try to be patient and not so quick to judge.
-
To physically fight everyone on the internet who has a dumb opinion.
-
As I have already stated, I will not respond any further to the talkbacker known as jay2517 (as much as they would clearly like me to). I have enough willpower to ignore it without even trying very hard.
-
Nuclear weapons might work
-
...in the other thread. A) It's just a TV show and it's not this serious. B) We all have the right to express our OPINIONS. There seems to be a group of talkbackers who take any negative comment about this show as the person saying it not liking Lost (I. LOVE. LOST.), not having any idea what they're talking about, being a complete idiot and basically just not having the right to express their doubts and apprehensions. First of all, none of you KNOW anything. You're guessing. Hypothesising based on what you've seen and or read. Funny thing is, so are the doubters. And we have just as much right to express our doubts, dislikes and concerns about what we've seen as you do to profess how you're convinced everything is going to be perfect. A'ight?
-
That was not my point. My point was that, on occasion, some people need to be reminding that they're behavior would not be accepted in the real world. That in fact, if in the real world, they FAR more than likely would not speak to anybody like that to begin with. But this is the internet, so you can attack, degrade and insult anybody as much as you like, right? Pshh. Whatever.
-
u just line'em up and i knock'em down. kinda simple really.
-
Geeeez. Moving on until somebody says something that makes sense in these threads.... which probably means I'll see y'all for the season finale talkback.
-
I agree with you almost 100%. However criticizing something from 4 minutes, or more often 2 minutes is the lifesblood of this site. Judging based on trailers, etc. Lost has the ball, down by 6 at the 2:00 warning with the ball at their 20. They can drive the field and win, but it's not a slam dunk (just to mix metaphors).
-
i do call out people "in the real world" when they have ignorant opinions. i see no reason to have to state it in a freakin Lost talkback. still have all my teeth in place and my ass is still attached to my rear lol. SO THERE!
-
i agree with u. it can either be REALLY BAD or REALLY GREAT. im leaning towards really great. and, im gonna base that opinion on ALL THE FREAKING SEASON 6 MINUTES I WATCH LOL!
-
Stop talking out your ass.
-
Cause they do do their homework and cant take getting asses handed to them when they are called out.
-
That's a joke right? Cause that shit's been out since fuckin JULY. You own season 5 on blu ray? Yeah. It's ALL on there. Jesus christ. Darkocity is Troll # 46
-
NO FUCKING SHIT. HAVE BOTHERED TO READ THE THREAD TROLL # 47?
-
Ok, Ok. If Jay vouches for ya, it's my mistake. I'm just frustrated by people talking out their as on here like they stick to the boards and have something interesting to contribute.
-
I seriously dont understand how AICN is one of the most ruthless and fan dedicated sites as far as pull-no-punches TB's go....
And that people who dont know shit post here and then are like, "why are they hating on me?"
WHY? Cause dedicated fans do homework. We read, talk, listen to D&C, CAMP OUT OVERNIGHT AT COMIC CON TO SEE THE LAST LOST PANEL... um, what else?
Keep the season 5 thread going from since May. We know our shit.
TROLLS - You don't.
-
UNTIL they start talking out their ROODY POO CANDY ASS!! lol
-
But I'd still have the Troll Banner rage in me regardless.
-
ive been reading these Lost tbs since day one and have just got fed up. plus, im in NC and snowed in LOL. since its the last season im not holding nuttin back baby! fuk'em fuk'em ALL.....
-
Sorry Darko!
-
But I will smite some motherfuckin trolls if they pop up.
-
When they cant man up to the bullshit they post.
None of them read the thread, none of them check back after they post bullshit.
Now that's a fruity ass-fuckface-jabroni TROLL. -
Its fun reading about you guys smaking down the Trolls!
-
and chill out!
the trolls will always come - the best policy is just ignore them, coz they're only really after the attention anyway... -
After season 6's premier we'll have the real TB for regulars. It's fun to set morons straight sometimes!
-
Wooooooo! lol
-
So when I say random asides about GERONIMO JACKSON or whatever I hope you gentlemen won't think I'm trolling. Not looking to rock the boat, just having fun is all.
-
Funny. just happened to read our debate over Space Time in node 35770 / Epi 4.5 ..remem the "Balloon Knot Theory"?
Lonnng before anyone mentioned moving the island.
Well whose retarded now? ...said Cal Naughton, Jr. -
THAT JUST HAPPENED!!
-
Well..Rizzo ..so two things..
The sad thing is in aboot 3-4 hours I fear that there will be a lot of noob-y trolls posting spoilers from 6.01 ..as the Sunset Beach premiere gets tweeted and you-tubed..
Beware the comin spoiler flood.
..and Rizzo. -
Im busy till Tuesday so I'm steering clear. Fuckers. Hope Herc will regulate.
-
Theez means nothing..eez reeedeeculouz!

i find since I can't grasp the whole, it's the little parts that fascinate. Like GERONIMO JACKSON. Every time they're mentioned in the show or by the writers it seems to be done so specifically. Like Juliet smirking (I know she's ALWAYS smirking but whatever) when Charlotte mentions them during her meltdown. Was that only done to express that Juliet understands that Charlotte was once Dharma or something else, something more particular? Just another red herring most likely, but I love chasing it.
Oh, and thanks for the warning MacFaux. And btw, if you've ever waxed philosophic about GERONIMO in some other node I'd love to read it and attempt to decipher it. Your posts are so wonderfully cryptic. Kinda like this show actually. -
some fun reading.
Noticed Napoleon Park was on it early on, is he around in any form these days, I know he got hit with the incredibly random ban hammer -
if u like certain things in the show.. they give u cool easter eggs. to kinda reward u for being a faithful fan. BUT... some of these fukkin idiots think u need ENTIRE SUBPLOTS to every little nuance they introduce. its only freakin 42 to 45 min of tv they can devote u know?
-
This show has been such a fantastic mind-fuck for its entire duration. So sad to know it's all gotta end soon.
And yeah, I was wondering where most of the Dharma construction vehicles and all their supplies came from until I watched that "Mysteries of the Universe" and got my answer. I definitely don't mind them leaving room for the audience to ponder and make their own connections though. These people just expect way too much from things. If we had all those answers shoved in our faces the magic would be lost (not a pun i swear). -
would be bitching about THOSE ANSWERS.... why did THIS happen... why DIDNT they do THIS...that MAKES NO SENSE BECAUSE.... blah blah blah.
-
I hate it when peo whine about them not answering questions.
-
Since ol' Smoky sounds kinda like a roller-coaster this Bill Hicks quote came to mind. Gonna abridge it a tad though.
"The world (or the the Island) is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever. Because this is just a ride." And we...kill those people. "Shut him up! I've got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok? But it doesn't matter, because it's just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, not work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one."
Whatever though. Peace out guys! -
and answer every single little question. lets say, for example, they just went HARDCORE with just the things that was important to the show from season 1. it would have become terribly BORING by episode 8. thats why 90% of shows fail. they dont challenge every aspect of someones everyday thinking. how MANY SHOWS has caused this much discussion and kept their audience more than Lost for the entire run besides LOST? twin peaks maybe?

in the second season. The casual viewers disappeared after the murder was solved and the writing went downhill.
-
I think I'm sorry I clicked on the link to read the comments. People discussing the true meaning of a characters hair length, going on about wild theories, some while actually telling others to get a life. Just a show kids. True, fun to theorize and bitch about the big stuff, but the little piddly stuff? Makes me kinda think maybe the people who make it toss that stuff in just to mess with you and make you wonder if it matters, all while you miss the big stuff. And the obvious, that it's just a TB show, nothing to get too worked up about. Sheesh.
-
OMG just saw a live stream of it from Hawaii... you guys WON'T be disappointed! Can't wait to see pt. 2!
-
but in a different way. Maybe their plane crashes for a different reason. Or they just find another way onto the island like through Jacob. What happened, happened and you can't change it.
-
isnt there another top 10 talkback u can infect?? asswipe....
-
that's what all the creators had in mind all along! if we could ONLY, make a show that a relatively small ( or large ), portion of AMERICA'S TV AUDIENCE could only keep track of...hold on now.. they could only keep track of through.. A INTERNET MOVIE SITE!!! it brillant!! get me NBC while ur at it....
-
Watching the premiere now...throughout it jumps between 2 versions of the present...1 is the present where the plane didn't crash, and in the other, Jack, Sawyer, Kate etc wake up at Swan site in the present...at the remains of the blown-up hatch from Season 2...and realize they actually did cause 'the incident' instead of re-writing it.

beautiful theory that Balloon Knot idea - must be said - but of course the math made asses out of both u & me (pardon the pisspoor humour)
must be time for some more Mexican Coke... -

what will you say then?

want to talk and read others talk about Lost, but can see some people may post descriptions of the first ep after the recent preview in Hawaii.

an autistic kid with a snowglobe created the room with a donkey wheel, but then Bob Newhart wakes up in bed with Suzanne Pleshette and realizes he just dreamed that.

Last night, I watched Sideways. Contained within the movie Sideways is a scene in which Tom, aka Mr. Friendly, aka "We're Gonna Have To Take The Boy", is found giving it, real dirty, to his fat over weight wife, with nothing but a ski cap on. He proceeds to chase our hero out of his house and into the street, with his floppy, Mr. Friendly wang blowing in the wind. For at least 15 seconds.
I never wanted to see Mr. Friendly naked. I never asked for that. At least he is dead so I won't have to think about it while LOST is on. Unless he returns this season. Oh god...I forgot, almost everyone is returning.
"We're gonna have to take the boy. Naked." (shudders)

Pre-speculation? I think you can just say "speculation". Anyway you're wrong. If I don't like alt timelines under any circumstances - and I don't - then it doesn't matter HOW it's used.
-
if not u dont need to watch at all. u'll not like this season.

can't wait til this show ends with 1,000 unanswered questions.
by redhorsevector
it will be fun seeing everyone copping pleas for this show one last time.
-
That's crazy. After five seasons even if they made it all CGI and introduced Strawberry Shortcake as a major character, I'd still watch it. It's the final season, give me a break.
-
WHY it was so interesting with all the mysteries and such.
If I had known they were going to make it ALL about time travel, I would never watched after season 1. -

when hurley and sayid were talking on the beach. im paraphrasing lol so... sayid was trying to pick up a radio signal. he picked up a old song and sayid wonders "where" are we?-- hurley then says dude "when" are we??
-
The radio signal on the beach was the first nod towards it, but I'm pretty sure season one had other nods to the essence of time and the ideas of where and 'when' they are. Even just the basic use of "flashbacks" is the most basic form of "time travel" in a way. They were transporting you, the viewer, through time to view different scenariors. Thematically, time travel is one of the most prevalent aspects of lost throughout its entire run.
-
"What Kate Does", as opposed to the season 2 episode, "What Kate Did" Do you think its worth watching that one again, like they are actually connected somehow, or just a clever nod to episodes past that happens to fit?
-
is going to be "reversed" like the reversed Lost logo in the season finale final scene.
-
My theory: I think it will be revealed / insinuated - if it hasn't been already - that the flashbacks and flashforwards actually are, and have always been, time travel.A characters' flashback has often been related to their on-island activity. It's either paralleled their current situation or provided insight into their character through past experience. One might also suggest that the flashbacks have INFLUENCED their on-island activity. Is this simply a narrative plot device or are the flashbacks integral to directing characters and their actions (as Jacob did by 'touching' each of them in the past). Were these flashbacks for our benefit as an audience or the benefit of 'the island' in directing people's behaviour?
Take Desmond's hatch-implosion 'flashback' where he believed he could see the future. This was when he first met Eloise. He WAS having a flashback. The only difference is that Desmond was AWARE that he was having a flashback. His consciousness was travelling through time and he was aware of it. He is unique because of what happened at the Swan. Everybody else's conciousness is unaware of the flashbacks/time travel as they weren't exposed to the electromagnetic discharge. Their flashbacks do not appear to be time travel for this reason but having now been subjected to 'the incident' what will happen? I suspect they will find that their consciousness will also travel through time and they will also be aware of it. Same goes for the flashforwards. They're both time travel of the unconscious mind. -

Here's a gem from the original pilot episode talkback
by dapper swindler
"#1 the premise is doomed from the start. i.e. a non-comedy version of Gilligan's Island is not going to work. You *know* they can't get off the island or the show dies. How long will today's audience put up with that? Not very long. #2 ABC's track record with sci-fi and "quirky" shows already tells us this thing is doomed. #3 I say 6 episodes tops before ABC pulls the plug, and then we will get to listen to Herc whine for a year or two."
-
There is absolutely zero chance of him being right. I mean, in a very, very abstract way, it's possible lost is a 'game' in that the man in white and the man in black are both manipulating the 'players'. And to these two people, it may all just be a 'game' to them. But as far as the very specific theory speculated by lostisagame.com? With all the 'levels' and criteria for beating levels, etc...not a chance. It's ridiculous, and all of the logic used in it's creation is the same type of non-sequitur logic you see in conspiracy theories, and the journals of people who aren't allowed to have pencils.

conclusion to a mystery that generally tends to cause viewers to grab their pitchforks and torches. It all turning out to be someone playing an *actual videogame* would be such a cheap, maddening conclusion, the writers are waaaaaay smarter than to pull something lame and easy like that. It would be akin to it all ending with Hurley *actually* being in an insane asylum and it all being in his head. Interesting theory, but would be cheesy, shitty, anger-inducing ending to a series people have invested a lot of time and interest in.
-
Here they are:
What is the smoke monster?
Who are Adam & Eve? (my theory: Jack and Kate)
Who are Jacob and The Man in Black? (Esau?)
What is the significance of the numbers? (and who initially started broadcasting the numbers on the island?)
Who built the statue? (and what destroyed it?)
How did the Black Rock get in the middle of the island?
What are The Whispers? Why do they occur at significant moments?
Who are the DeGroots? Alvar Hanso?
Why is Richard Alpert seemingly immortal?
Who are the parents of Charles Widmore? Adam & Eve? (Jack & Kate?)
Why is Hurley still fat? ;-)
Are the 815ers eventually destined to become the "original" settlers of the island?
What if they travel back in time and become the forefathers of The Others? (Adam and Eve?)
What if they are on The Black Rock when it first travels to the Island?
By settling on the island in the past, will they set all future events on (and off) the island in place? A self-fulfilling prophecy? A time travel paradox?
Hopefully these questions will be answered! -
SPOILERS --> it's kinda confusing because there is 3 settings that it switches between but the episode still rocks though goes so fast, again, with the 3 settings/time-periods.
-
there's only 2 time lines. jack and company are in MIB's Ben's 2007 time line now. just that time line and the ALT are going on now.
-
Holy Smokes (Monster)!
-
As much as I loathe alt timelines, I don't mind so much if the the established one we've been watching for five seasons continues. I still think even as pseudo-science for sci-fi purposes, alt timelines are stupid, but as long as they don't abandon what we have seen and don't make me think too much about the pseudo-science, because it really is bunk. Anyway consider my mind as open as it's gonna be.

"between the 1st & 2nd season is when we cooked the mythology"
by billboefett
"We came up with the final image of the show a long time ago," says Cuse, "back when we were first plotting out the mythology in the first season."
In fact, Lost was never really intended to go beyond those initial 13 episodes.
"Really, you know, between the first and the second season is when we cooked the mythology," Cuse confirms. "We kind of knew what the end point was, but as you move toward the end point, you add elements." from here: http://bit.ly/cLSJbt -
Is there anywhere online I can read some balls out spoilers for the first ep? I don't normally read them but it's not on in england til friday and even that I don't have satelite TV and only have phone internet so can't watch videos. I respect that people don't wanna read any in this thread but I can't find any write-ups from those at the premiere or anyone who's watched it online. Cheers!
-
Wow. This video is crazy. Really shows some stuff off. I'm surprised they released this. It's not really spoilerific, but it shows so many news things and places, etc. Hints at the epic-ness.

This show has pissed on me for the last three seasons and I see the signs, I can read the writing on the wall. We all know there's no coming back from the hole the writer's have dug themselves into.
So now we're going to see what would have happened if the plane didn't crash... right. I bet the writer's sat around saying, "JESUS, how can we take back the past three years of our writing and just pretend it never happened? We really dug ourselves into a hole here."
One brave writer raised his hand. "Well, I guess we can just start over and do stories about what if the plane never crashed and all that ridiculous shit never went done."
The producers in that meeting who weren't occupied with lines of cocaine looked at eachother and nodded. Then they went back to doing blow. -
OMG awesome new footage:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc8l-7PV6X8
IMO the best Trailer ever!! -
Whoa. That video alone redeems my faith that lost knows, and knew, exactly what it was doing. Who is the mousy looking guy with long hair who says "Shoot 'em" He looks like a Dharma fool we haven't met yet or something. Jack's line "Why is my name written on this" is clearly gonna be massively important, probably gonna be when we find out what the fuck is really going on. Hopefulyl it harkens back to "the lists" of seasons 2 and 3. Also, Lockes first setence, about answering "why you are on this island" is the perfect opener. My goodnesss, I've been waiting too long for this. 33 more hours!
-
Yeesh!

But this talkback has died I think. No one is talking. The premiere talkback tomorrow is going to be a fucking disaster also.

Do you have the url for the season 5 finale talkback or anyone for that matter? It be cool if someone can post it its no longer in my bookmarks GRRRRRR
Thanks -
I can answer a couple of these. The smoke monster is 'Essau/the Nemesis'(not speculation) in his disembodied form. There may actually be 2 smoke monsters, the other being Jacob (Locke, Kate and Juliette saw 'light' coming from their smoke monster, whereas Ecko and others saw darkness). We've only seen the 'dark' smoke monster kill people. It was Hurley who originally started broadcasting the numbers (or at least the transmission that lured Rousseau's team too the island, the transmission they recorded was in Hurley's voice).

We've waited this long. What's 28 more hours? I'll wait for my crystal clear HD, DVR-ed commercial-less premiere of greatness, thanks. I don't understand why someone would even watch that. It would just make waiting for the next hour even longer.

1. The polar bears are from a cargo ship that ran aground. Like the plane, it too somehow got lost and drawn to the island. This cargo ship was carrying other animals on their way to a zoo in Australia. Like the polar bear, some of these animals are dangerous predators, too. 2. Somebody amongst the survivors is actually not a survivor -- s/he was never even on the plane. 3. Every passenger was purposely scheduled, and rescheduled, in order for them to share the same flight. 4. They are not lost in time, nor are they dead, in another dimension, or otherwise. But it's impossible for anybody outside to get to them. 5. They are indeed on an island. The island "behaves" differently at nighttime compared to the day. This will become a very apparent and significant factor regarding the mystery behind this island. -
