42 23 16 15 8 4 Days Before LOST's Sixth Season Arrives A Video That Encapsulates The Hopes And Fears Of Multitudes!!
I am – Hercules!!
A few questions I’m keen to see answered in season six:
Who keeps dropping off those Dharma supplies for Swan Station?
If Ben never spoke to Jacob, how did Ben know the Frozen Donkey Wheel was down there?
Where did Dharma get that futuristic sonic fence technology?
Why does everyone apparently get to return to the island except Charles Widmore?
Is the island a spaceship covered in dirt?
Where and when was Alpert born, and why was he made immortal?
What was Faraday up to in Ann Arbor for three years?
Why didn't the world end while they were building the Swan Station's 108-minute button?
With the whole world at stake, why didn't the designers of the 108-minute button make the numerical disarm sequence less complicated?
Does Alvar Hanso know Jacob’s buddy in black?
We’re all hoping that Darlton guy sticks the landing, am I right? A video designed to remind what a long, strange trip it’s been:
Be seeing you.

Ben and the wheel could also easily be how did he know Jacob was suppose to be in the cabin? It's safe to assume Richard Alpert provided this info to him. Some stuff you have to be willing to just accept the fill in the blanks.
Example: I'm sure we will find out what the smoke monster is to the basic degree. (In my opinion it's the man in black) why the smoke monster is able to transform into things I'm sure we won't find out we'll just have to fill in the blank based off the info that they give us about what the smoke monster is.
At comic con they claimed the food drop in season 2 would be explained. I'm guessing some dharma peeps came in on the wrong bearing for a moment.
Alpert we are gonna get.
No way do we need faraday in ann arbor. We can just assume his smarts were seen by dharma and he became part of the team for the swan. All while furthering his own research on how people are the variables.
The widmore question intrigues me. Perhaps Charles really believes in the rules. I think Charles is alligned with the man in black. Perhaps he is loyal enough to follow the rules. Would be nice to learn more about the rules. Remember Alpert had that book of laws when he visited young locke in 56. -
...no idea about how accurate but it feels close enough. Nice piece of work!
-
No need to say more. Really effing stupid video.
-
That "comedy" video was re-tah-ded.
-
Now imagine if they just ended the series completely open-ended with no resolution or explanation at all. . .that would suck, huh? That's what they did on the X-Files, a show that had spun its wheels so thoroughly I'm convinced the writers themselves had no idea what was going on at the end.
-
The only question remaining for me is how will this chess game between MIB and Jacob pan out?
-
they even included the footage from the minisodes. really well done.
-
there's a pile of questions from this video that already have been answered.
-
Would I like it wrapped up well ? Of course.
Do I think all the enjoyment I have had watching it so far is dependent on tying everything up in a neat little bow ? Nope.
If the Wire had only 3 seasons it would stil have been amazing. The fact that it had the chance to give all it's characters a send off and end it well in a final fifth season just added to it's sheer brilliance.
Too many poeple are forgetting all the superb episodes and acting we've had so far. It's certainly the type of show that needs to pull out the stops for it's finale season but the original Prisoner for example had an absolutely mad finale yet it's still a classic.
I'm going to keep watching till the end and if it disappoints I'll say so. But the fact is crap like Heroes didn't keep us watching and this has and stil elicits all this interest. That's the difference. -
I know I've watched every episode on TV and I don't recognize some of it. Is my memory that bad or is there footage in there from other places? Someone mentioned the minisodes; were those from the DVDs?
-
the footage of juliet giving the file to ameila (ben's xray) and christian talking to vincent right before the opening scene of the series were minisodes.

The Island exists within a pocket of space from a parallel
by liquidlunch
universe, one where humans followed a separate path of evolution hence, the four toed ancients, different technology - the smoke monster, and they the physics of that place had gone haywire. To enter into that dimension you have follow certain coordinates. Done, mystery solved.
-
There could be an explanation as to why the Numbers are used for the Swan's computer but I doubt it.
Enzo Valenzetti created the Valenzetti Equation to accurately predict the end of the world. The core numerical values of that equation are the Numbers. The Dharma Initiative was designed to change those core numerical values. They probably chose those numbers because to remind the men stationed in the Swan why they are there.
As to why those numbers work? That's a mystery I hope is never solved. Honestly, I don't think the numbers will ever be explained and I'm okay with that. -
Or is that just supposed to be taken for granted at this point?

Herc just made me really nervous with that sonic fence question
by nopix
I was hoping we would delve into the Dharma iniiative in season 5. I know we technically did, but it wasn't satisfying. I wanted to see brilliant scientists try and grapple with the smoke monster and how to build a cool sonic fence. Now I'm really fucking nervous.
-
I'm fine with the myster of the numbers. But why did all the stuff happen to Hurley and Sam Toomey? Why were they broadcast from the radio station in the first place? Those are legitimate questions.
-
... you're so not watching season six to bullet proof your knowledge?
-
isnt it? the ARG stuff just doesnt count. none of it. thats the impression i got anyway...
-
GEEK HEAVEN!!!
-
...just curious...
-
Like why Walt referred to Locke as Jeremy Bentham when he was reunited with Hurley. And why Pierre Chang kept using different names in the Dharma orientation films.

but I think he likes to wait for the Blu-rays to come out.

apparently, you've never been to zingerman's. that's where i spent a few years of my life. there and the brown jug.

the producers have said something like 'we feel we've already told her story and we don't need to explain that.' yes. you. fucking. do. her and the stewardess who just disappeared climbing up a hill for no reason.

actually there was at least 1 cheat in the "real time" video
by theseeker7
One of the times we're watching the scene where Desmond confronts Inman by the boat and they're talking, it cuts away in the middle of it to go to I think Juliet, then returns in the same spot where it left off. But Des and Inman never stopped talking in that scene, so to make the video work the editor had to basically put that scene on hold, thus making it not 100% accurate. But really that's a minor quibble, it's an incredible video.
-
Why are there hieroglyphs on the Swan Station clock? Obviously we know there's some ancient civilisation on the island...but who put the glyphs on the clock, and why? For a laugh? Yes, it was a cool visual, but on further inspection it makes no sense at all. Lets hope that statement doesn't end up describing LOST as a whole
Most important though is OF COURSE what does the mark on Juliet's back mean? -
I doubt we'll get any more info on why Hurley was "cursed", because I think something like that will be chalked up to "it's one of those things", which is not entirely unfair. But the detail of why the numbers were broadcast over and over again on that one frequency, yea I'd like an answer to that.
-
anyone looking to find out what exactly the island is is going to be disappointed. the island in and of itself is going to be one of those things not explained. its a weird place where weird things happened that was found a long time ago by egyptian like people were two deities live and and play games with people as a test. thats the island in a nutshell
-
Wears guy liner. He is a big fan of the Cure?
-
uses different names because the dharma video are like infomercials. He is an actor in each video playing a different character to sell what these recruits are doing in the stations.
-
why everyone knows the name is simple story telling purposes. If in every scene in the episode it began or ended with him saying oh im jeremey bentham it would have been repetitive and redundant. They decided to show it once and you can infer that it was found out at some point but to not show was simply a story telling point.
-
that the Lost Experience is canon. This is the ARG that is the most canonical mainly because it was the first one and it was designed by the writers.
It would have to be anyways because of the amount of story involved. I mean, it deals with the creation of the Dharma Intitiative! -
what we know about the equation/numbers and some facts on alvar and dharma are canon. pretty much the final video with alvar is canon. rachel blake, the black rock details etc are not. i have a list of all canon items. this show is my fave thing.
-
So, I went to Radio Shack and bought some blank VHSs to record on (the first time I've bought any VHS tapes in around ten years).I can't wait... well, actually I have to.
-
I just meant the equation/Hanso stuff. The Rachel Blake stuff isnt.

3. Alvar Hanso/Dharma/Numbers video – This was part of “the lost experience” between seasons 2 and 3. While the lost experience it’s self is not part of the story. Producers have confirmed that the 1st part of this video with Hanso and Dharma and Numbers is. The 2nd part of the video with the girl hiding with the camera don’t watch. Just the 1st 4mins/ hanso portion matters with the show…

5. Lost: Missing Pieces – These are minisodes that provide small bits of new info on events for seasons 1-3. They are in the bonus features of season 4 dvd. Watch these before season 4. Some are pointless but still fun. They were mainly made because Michael was coming back to the show and they wanted to somehow feature more with him along with more of what Juliet was doing during seasons 1 and 2. Some good stuff with Vincent the dog and when the others had Walt. Here is a link if you want to watch them online, just scroll down to the 1st one. 13 total…

9. Mysteries of the Universe the Dharma Initiative – 5 part unsolved mysteries type 1980’s conspiracy theory show. Provides more info on Dharma. Lindelof and Cuse have said the show is about the characters and relationships. They've also said that it's about the journey not the destination. Translation: Don't expect many satisfying answers.
You have to admit, no one really cares about how Lost ends or how mysteries are resolved. No one is really watching Lost for the mysteries. Everyone is interested in the character's backgrounds and their friendships and romantic relationships with one another.

"If the Wire had only 3 seasons it would stil have been amazing. The fact that it had the chance to give all it's characters a send off and end it well in a final fifth season just added to it's sheer brilliance." Why do a small group of people have to relate every fucking TV show or movie to The Wire? The third and fourth seasons were good. The fifth season was a fucking embarrassment. It should never have aired. Terrible writing, and the hokiest of all possible send-offs. The fifth season of The Wire dragged the overall series down. It should have ended after season 4. Was it an interesting show? Sure. But was it "sheer brilliance" like G100 declares? Absolutely not. There's a reason why it never found a sizeable audience, and never won awards. It just wasn't that good.
-
Jorge Garcia recently (as in...this week) stated in an interview that the producers said YES and then NO to further exploring the Libby backstory... ...but now they have decided to cover it. How cool is that?

Moving Biggest Loser to 9-11 p.m. to avoid getting shut out at 10 p.m.
-
She's scheduled to return this year, so we'll see what's up with that huh?
Lookit all the trolls. We've been keeping the season 5 finale STILL going since May. -
No way can season 6 disappoint as many people as the iPad did.
I'm hopeful though a little leery because Darlton said in an interview this week that they plan to go "off grid" after the end to avoid questions. That doesn't sound full of confidence. -
That's totally what I've been thinking for ages! I mean, it has to be, right? -
It's mildly funny, but I don't like when people act like the writers just pulled all the stories out of their asses. I've been pretty impressed with the payoffs to a lot of the mysteries, and I'm also content in knowing that when LOST ends, there will still be some things unanswered. That's cool with me.I also hate when stuff like this portrays LOST fans as a bunch of dumbasses who are "so confused" by the story. Yeah, there's a LOT to take in... but, honestly, check out places like Lostpedia, and there's a treasure trove of information that hardcore fans of picked out of the episodes. Rewatching season five over the past few weeks, I started to see how many things came together... and I loved that theories started to come together in my head (the whole line that Not-Locke says to Jacob... "You have no idea what I've gone through to be here," made my head spin in a whole new way once I could take season 5 in as a whole block of story). That said... I can't wait until Tuesday. Screw these idiots who just want answers to every little mystery. It ain't gonna happen and it's not important that everything is resolved. I expect a lot of bitching after the series finale, even IF it's the most amazing thing to ever grace a TV screen.
-
Cut out part of the Swan Orientation video, put the missing footage in a hollowed out Bible, then put that Bible in the Arrow Station, 3 days walk away????
Yeah, you guys haven't scratched the surface on all the unanswered questions. Rewatch Season 2 -
you, sir... are a stupid fuck.
THE WIRE "just wasn't that good"?... HAHAHAHAHAHA.
i say again... stupid. fuck. -
And never got CSI audiences.
For that matter CSI must be absolute shit because American Idol beats it.
The Wires fifth Season added a final layer of the media and it's culpability and the subject of political idealism corrupted by cynical politicking and dealmaking (like that's not relevant now) And how lies are easier to believe for some than the truth.
Sure the serial killer was a bit far fetched (though that was adressed since it was an invented serial killler) but a sensationalist media that wasn't interested in homelessness unless a serial killer was eating them wasn't. And neither a dysfunctional police department where office politics and playing stat games were at the root of the problem.
Though speaking purely personally, I realy don't give a fuck about those who hate on The Wire as it will easily outlast them and the fucktards on the Emmy boards who preferred the likes Desperate Housewives to one of the best acted, scripted and complex shows ever seen on TV.
Like David Simon said "fuck the casual viewer". Let them eat CSI and American Idol. -

The Grand Unanswered Questions List in Chronological Order
by dapper swindler
1. How did 815 lose radio contact?
Six hours into the flight from Sydney to Los Angeles, flight 815 lost radio communications, according to pilot Seth Norris.
“No-one could see us. We turned back to land in Fiji. By the time we hit turbulence, we … we were a thousand miles off course. They're looking for us in the wrong place.”
On its way to Fiji, the flight crashed because of the electromagnetism built up in the Swan Station due to Desmond’s failure to timely enter the Numbers.
From this description, it sounds like the electromagnetism that caused the plane to crash had nothing to do with the lost radio communications, which occurred some time before the crash (enough time for the plane to fly 1,000 miles off course)
So what could have caused the lost radio communications? That doesn’t ordinarily happen, does it? Could someone have sabotaged the plane?
Perhaps someone cut the radio communications at the right time, knowing the plane would fly directly to Fiji, and with this course fly directly over the island, at the exact same time Desmond would fail to enter the Numbers.
Sounds complicated. But Charles Widmore did know that flight 815 crashed on the island and planted a decoy plane in the ocean. How would he know that unless he meant for that plane to crash on the island?
So do you think the plane crash was more than just the coincidence of Desmond and his button pressing? Did someone like Widmore actually count on such a coincidence occurring and plan for it accordingly by cutting the radio.

I stopped watching after the third season. I loved the show during the first season. Started to get pissed off in the second season. Completely fucking despised the third season. I love how back in the second and third seasons the Lost fans would constantly say that all the mysteries would be revealed and all the questions would be answered by the end of the show. Now that it has become blatantly obvious to even the die hard fans that the writers DON'T know what they're doing, suddenly the new rationale for watching the show is that we should watch it for the acting and the characters. Ugh. No thanks. The characters were ruined back in the second season, so, what exactly should I be watching for then? Don't answer that. It's rhetorical. And I won't be coming back to the thread. I simply don't care about your answers. And to head off any criticisms, no, I don't watch Heroes, and go fuck yourself if that was your first thought for a response.
-
like to wait for their TV shows to come out on DVD to watch them. that's how it works
-
I would love to see other pieces of the show put together like that. I would also love to see the show put in complete chronological order at some point. I'm not entirely sure what would be the very first thing in terms of time...maybe the time they flashed through time and saw the statue fully built? Anyone else remember something further back in time than that? Anyway, I always thought seeing the show in order would be very interesting, and this 24/LOST video was very satisfying. Whoever did that is awesome
-
It's slightly depressing for non-ABC networks...
Fox knows they are in trouble with American Idol and they realize they are limping to the end of the season, but there are no other shows on television that could possibly match the magnitude of LOST.
I wouldn't be surprised if other networks decided to just air dead time Tuesday nights... They've had an entire half season to prepare for this week... -
I'd bet good money were going to see Alpert landing on the Island and and ecountering Jacob and some primitive others. Hopefully we'll also go right back to the origins of smokie, Jacob and the statue.
I still think Jacob might have been playing notLocke a bit at the end as he seemed to be goading him on. His touching of the Losties and one of the woven pictures makes me think he also had a bigger gameplan.
Ben wil be pivotal and so will the two ancient skeletons. Could be Kate and Sawyer flung back in time at some point and Sawyer and Jack seem to echo the Jacob/Smokie duality as well.
Widmore and Desmond should be back on the Island before the end. -
I'm inclined to think that the first scene, chronologically, is Jacob and the Man in Black. THEN it is followed by the scene with Locke, Juliet, and Sawyer flashing through time.
-
*cough*Ab Aeterno*cough*
-
Things I don’t need answers to. I have enough evidence for my own interpretation.
The numbers – I know why they were important to dharma. They were an equation that pretty much predicted the end of the world and Dharma was trying to stop it. Never was fully explained on the show. It was explained in the first online game between season 2 and 3 and the creators confirmed it to be accurate. As for Hurley and the numbers I’m OK to assume it was fate weaving them into his life/destiny.
Libby – just another fate/character connection with Hurley. Husband died, she went crazy, was in same hospital with Hurley. Got sane again sold husband boat to Desmond, which led him to the island. The end.
I’m going to go on a creative limb and guess, because that’s what makes the show amazing and fun… Hurley accidentally killed her husband Dave when he put too much weight on the deck. Dave dies and haunts Hurley; Libby goes insane ends up in hospital. I base this off knowing Libby's husband had a boat and Hurley was originally in the mental hospital for adding to much weight to a dock and becoming traumatized.
Claire’s psychic - Was he a fraud like he told Eko? I think yes. But he was given a vision similar to what some of the survivors have gotten, that he needed to tell Claire she must raise the baby herself. So he manipulates her to get on flight 815 so this happens. Guessing Jacob had something to do with this since Man in Black doesn’t seem to want Aaron around. Or someone like Widmore paid off the psychic to tell her to get on the plane. Knowing that in the future she is a passenger on 815.
Danielle – Lots of her story doesn’t add up. I’m OK with saying she went insane and that’s the reason for the inconsistencies in her story. We’ve been reminded while viewing the show that she was insane. We have seen that the others never used black smoke to steal Alex. Danielle made this up to make the survivors worried. She is the only one who used black smoke to try and exchange Aaron for Danielle.
Cindy and the kids from flight 815 - They were on the list! Don't know why this is a big deal. They were chosen by Jacob to be others.
Brother Campbell: I would like to know how Eloise and him know each other. But I feel with what we know of Eloise this isn't important. Seems to me like he is an off island other working/believing in certain things needing to play out like Eloise and simply working with her. We know with Jill the butcher etc that there are Others working off the island. This could be an example of that.
Questions I’d like answers to or at least more information to make my own decisions. Not all are obviously important for my enjoyment of the show. Some I have my own theories on. But figured I should list everything I'm wondering about anyways...
Randoms
What is the bright light that Locke saw early in season 1? The monster or man in black? Jacob?
What did Ben have in the vent area of the hotel room with Jack?
Where did Richard take Ben as a child? Why would this place make him one of them forever and make him forget things?
Who are Adam and Eve and what is the significance of the bag of rocks? I believe Rose and Bernard. I have a feeling Vincent places the rocks next to them.
How did the US army find the island? Why are they not still looking for it? We know the army was placing bombs on islands in the pacific for testing. Jacob allowed them to find the island because he wanted jughead placed on the island. Because of it's impact on future events.
The bird that calls out Hurley’s name in the season 1 and season 2 finale. Would love more info. I have a feeling it has some sort of Egyptian background.
Time flashes: Why did the survivors and juliet and freighter folk travel but not the others? I believe the others are somehow protected from being displaced in time. This is due to being chosen by Jacob. I have a feeling Juliet is affected by the time flashes because the others branded her after she killed Pickett.
Who was Henry Gale? Considering he was in a hot air balloon created by Widmore industries I'm sure he is an agent of Widmore.
How did Desmond get to the island on the boat? Did Widmore some how cause it to happen or was it all just fate? I’m going with fate. This really isn’t a big one, and probably shouldn’t be listed. Plus knowing Naomi was sent to the island through Widmore with a picture of Desmond makes me think Charles knew he was there. Perhaps Charles was told through the mib to sponsor the race knowing this would happen. The race could also just be one of Charles's many different ways of finding the island.
Since Widmore acknowledged to John Locke that the real philosopher Locke existed. Are we to believe that other characters named after real life people also exist? Not important, just curious.
What’s up with the glass eye in the arrow? Probably will never get. Perhaps has to do with Mikahli?
What happened to Desmond’s vision of Claire getting on a helicopter with Aaron? I think we'll get to this before the series ends.
What was the ultimate purpose of room 23? Don't think we'll get this and probably shouldn't be on the list. Seemed like it was some sort of punishment/brainwashing device that Ben used. the end. He used on Karl to keep him in check. I think he used it on Walt to keep him in line when he started showing off strong powers. (we know Walt was in the room due to the minisode and Bea Klugh mentions the room to Walt in season 2)
Claire/Aaron/Christian questions
Is she dead from the dharma house blowing up? Is she the monster or The man in black in disguise?
Why was it important that she raised Aaron on her own? I just think Aaron was never suppose to be on the island. Or the psychic being a fraud was making a lame prediction.
Why does the man in black as Christian not want Aaron around?
Is the suit wearing Christian the man in black or something else? Jacob? We've seen Christian in both his suit and in casual clothing. I believe both are the man in black/monster. When Hurley finds the cabin Christian in a suit is in the rocking chair. We see a close up of an eye I believe this is the man in black transfering himself into Christian.
Widmore questions
Would love to know how he even came to be on the island?
Why can’t Widmore return to the island? Ben seemed to be banished via turning the wheel and was able to come back. Unless Charles just likes to follow the rules.
Why does Widmore believe Locke needs to be back on the island in order for the right side to win? How does he know about the upcoming war? I’m guessing he has been working with the man in black. He knows Locke is the key to the loophole.
Why did he seem to think John did not have to die to accomplish his task of bringing back those that left? I’m guessing he knew John would commit suicide knowing he would fail. Unless a big twist is coming up that Widmore is actually "good."
Eloise questions
Would love to know how she came to be on the island.
Why exactly is she convinced that whatever happened happened? That people must follow a certain road? Probably shouldn't have this listed. She has her sons journal of future events. She told Desmond the universe course corrects. So I guess she is convinced that certain things must happen.
Why does her son with Charles have a different last name? Faraday?!? Probably to protect Daniel I'm guessing.
Walt questions
What did the others want with him exactly? In the minisode we know Jacob was interested in him per Ben.
What exactly are his abilities? Why is he special? Is he aware about the times when he has randomly shown up to survivors?
Dharma questions
Why has Dharma totally stopped existing? Is there no one left off island? Seems those are alive are remaining quiet about the island.
How was Dharma able to secretly go back and forth from the island unnoticed by people/government? Simply $ and power and secrecy can get things like this done. See area 51.
Who was the bright young fellow that Eloise refers to at the looking glass? This person figured out how to locate the island. Sounds like it should be Faraday, but Dharma was already on the island when he time traveled. I believe it was Enzo Valenzetti. Since Eloise mentions they found the island due to his equations. We know Enzo came up with the equation that led to the numbers.
Why did the others purge Dharma in 1992? What was the last straw? This I'm real curious about. The incident occurs in 1977, I would think that would have been the last straw. They built a hatch on your property and it went crazy! Why do you allow them to hang out for another 15 years? There were several violations of the truce... digging, staying on the island for longer then agreed apon. I believe Jacob would not allow the purge to happen until a certain time. Or the man in black ordered Widmore to execute the purge at a specific time.
If the man in black can manipulate dead bodies not burned or buried, then why is there an entire pit of dharma folk? We've seen the others burn their own at sea. We saw last year Richard demand Amy's husband's corpse. I think it's safe to assume he would burn or bury it. I’m guessing Widmore ordered them not to be buried because he has been in a deal with the man in black for a long time. Man in black wanted to be able to manipulate these bodies. Such as he did with Horace Goodspeeds in John Locke's dream to find Horace to find the cabin.
Why does Pierre Chang use different names in the dharma orientation videos? I'm sure we won't get this. I'm sure it's just part of Dharma being private.
Why was Kelvin recruited? Seemed like a late recruit. This I would really like. I think he was recruited very close to when the purge took place. Since he was in the gulf war prior.
I’m going to assume Ethan and Ben were still with Dharma and sneaking out at night to work with the others. Why exactly did Ethan join the others? Would love a little more on his youth and Amy. Theory: Amy was an undercover other! When Sayer and company discover her and her husband in a scuffle by the others land, I believe they were not going to kill amy because she was one of them. I believe Amy was allowing Ethan to sneak out at night with Ben to be with the others. I believe Amy is Ameilia who was the older other who came over to Juliet's for the book club. Is it a coincidence that Ethan was there to fix Juliet's car when Ameilia was over?
How did a food drop occur in 2004? I'm guessing the food drop came in on the wrong bearing and somehow ended up in the wrong time. I believe the island is the center of everything... time/space.
What is the vaccine that Desmond takes in the hatch and that Claire was given by Ethan?
BlackRock/Magnus Hanso – 1st mate's journal being owned by Tovard Hanso - Dharma/Alvar Hanso. Would love a little bit of history.
Statue question
What caused the destruction of the statue? Did it being destroyed have anything to do with the pregnancy issues? If not what caused the pregnancy issues? The bomb?
Richard Alpert questions
Why does Richard Alpert not acknowledge Kate and Sayid when he sees them in the season 4/2004 finale when they help him free Ben? When we know he has met them in the 70’s? Considering that he said he watched them all die. I believe Richard has been told not to acknoledge people. To allow events to play out and to simply be an advisor. Even if he disagrees with a leader. We know he has met Locke before but rather then tell John this in 2004. He allows events to play out and advises John on how to get his father to be killed.
Why did Jacob choose Richard to be immortal and the liaison between him and the appointed leaders?
Illana and Bram/shadow of the statue crew questions
What is their relationship to Jacob? How do they seem to know so much about the coming war?
What are the other small random group of Ajira survivors doing now on the Hydra Island? Man it must be lonely.
What exactly is Frank a candidate for?
Where exactly did the "prophecy" of what lies in the shadow of the statue come from?
The bomb questions
Did it reset everything or did whatever happened happen? Does it have something to do with the pregnancy issue? I believe Miles was correct when he said that setting off the bomb would cause the incident.
Jacob/Man in black questions
What is their back story/relationship to each other? why are they forever playing a game with people and the island?
Why did Jacob ever use the cabin? What is the purpose of the ash? How did the man in black seemed to be trapped in the cabin? I think it's safe to say the ash trapped him. But what is it exactly? What broke the ash surrounding the cabin?
What is the purpose of Jacob touching people?
Who are the people that are coming? The survivors Jacob touched? If so, what does this mean for Miles, Rose, Bernard, Juliet and Vincent? Assuming Juliet might survive.
Smoke Monster questions
What is it? Why is it judging people, or bringing them down to where it is located to make them sick?
Why is it no match for the Dharma sonar fences?
The Temple questions
What’s it a sanctuary for exactly? What group of others are there?
Why does the temple have a dharma logo on Ben’s map? I think it's safe to say that Dharma knew where the temple was and just marked it's location on a map.
Island back story questions
*More info on the general history on the island – construction of the wheel and the Egyptians. Their relation to man in black and Jacob. The black rock folk and their back-story on the island.
I believe Sawyer caused the wheel to be discovered when he was holding onto the rope trying to bring Locke up. The rope flashed with him to an earlier time and remained. But I still would love to know who exactly constructed the wheel prior.
Time Travel/Flashes questions
Why did the Oceanic 6 members on Ajira flash but no one else? Why did Sun not? I believe this was answered by Eloise. She said if not everyone made the 316 flight that left. The results could be unpredictable. Thus why some were sent to Dharma times while others remained in the normal 2007 time. It may be unpredictable to us. But to Jacob/Mib it's all part of the plan/destiny.
The whispers
Who/what is saying them? What is their purpose? We know they appear when the dead show up. Who I believe is the mib/smoke monster. We know they appear when the others appear.
I think that about covers it! -
I mean I love Lost as much as anybody, but even I admit it's completely preposterous. They couldn't answer all the absurdity even if they tried.

2. Vincent?
During the very first opening sequence of Lost, Jack wakes up in the jungle. The first thing he sees is Vincent, the dog. Later in the episode, during Jack, Kate, and Charlie’s trek to find the cockpit. The camera gives us a suspicious shot of Vincent, quietly watching them.
Is Vincent just a red herring? Made to look more important than he actually is?
I would think so except for the mobisode scene that takes place minutes before the series’ first scene. In this mobisode, Christian Shepherd tells Vincent to “go wake up his son” because “he has work to do.” You can find it online and check it out yourself.
So is Vincent just a dog or does he have a greater purpose? Is he being utilized by strange forces of the island? Was this lab grown in a lab?
-
it means since the beginning of time
-
I heard Vincent is actually a cat in a dog suit, and that's why he's so important.
-
is just a dream that Vincent is having. The final shot will be a pullback from Vincents eye as he wakes up from long weird dream in front of a fireplace.

If you watch a show you HAVE to care about the characters. In life sometimes you don't get easy answers, especially to the weird shit that happens. I once saw two different dwarves walking with two different stools thousands of miles apart on the same day. Would it make it better if I found out David Lynch was playing a joke on me? Let's think about David Lynch for a minute. Mulholland Dr., Twin Peaks, Inland Empire, were brilliant. They don't even attempt answers. But they have compelling characters you care about.
-
...that Jack was somehow "teleported" to the island and gently deposited in the bamboo forest, much like The Six were teleported there when they returned?
-
Format that mess and I will read it and comment.
-
.. the whole show is about a dyslexic's search for Dog.

So, the the question about the numbers was answered in an online game and never once explained on the show, and probably never will be? TOTAL FUCKING BULLSHIT.

3. Why does the Monster kill the pilot?
Not long after Jack revives Seth Norris, the pilot of flight 815 he is taken and killed by the Monster.
Why does the Monster choose to kill this character at this time? Why doesn’t it kill anyone else? Why does it kill some people later?
Oh Smoke Monster, why do you do that thing you do?
As any loyal Lost viewer knows already, the Smoke Monster’s behavior is unpredictable. It never seems to have a consistent pattern of behavior, at least from our point of view. But this killing of Seth Norris is unusual enough to merit a post here.
Why? Because Seth Norris wasn’t supposed to pilot flight 815. This job was “supposed” to belong to current island inhabitant and “candidate” Frank Lapidus.
What difference does it make who is “supposed” to pilot the plane? And why would this have anything to do with the Smoke Monster?
No idea here. We probably won’t find understand these things until we know what the Smoke Monster is and why the Losties were “brought” to the island – if indeed they were intentionally brought.
-
read your big paragraph. Very comprehensive, it seems. I think your Illana and Bram/shadow of the statue crew are setting up Lapidus to be the new vessel for Jacob.
-
Bernard and Rose. They stayed in the past because they were happy remember? They died together happy in the cave.
-
Been terrible with the main tb, you guys have a dedication beyond and above.
-
He was the reason desmond was on the island. He sabotaged the plane and made it fly off course so it would be over the island when desmond didn't hit the button.
-
If we get this guy's story, some of the the answers to the big questions will come thick and fast.
Also as Damon and Carlton have mentioned not all the mysteries will be solved and that is definetely a good thing.
As I have said before hopefully they get the balance right.

4. So why are Polar Bears on the island again?
When we first encounter the polar bears in the second episode of Lost we are pretty clueless how they got to the island and what they are doing there. But even with five seasons of information, I don’t feel like I can let this one go. Not everything in the polar bear story makes sense.
We know that the Dharma Initiative brought them to the island. Pierre Chang threatens to reassign Hurley to polar bear feces shoveling. We know that a polar bear with a Dharma collar was found in Tunisia, so it’s likely that a polar bear turned the Frozen Donkey Wheel at one point.
But is that why polar bears were brought to the island? To turn a wheel? That would be a good guess, but wait! You would be forgetting that Pierre Chang had no idea that there was any wheel behind the Orchid Station when polar bears were already on the island. So they couldn’t have brought the polar bears for to the island for that purpose alone. -
I'm thinking that once the time loop started with the "incident" no pregnancies could happen on the island because once locked into the time loop no "new" human beings can be introduced into it because everything has already happened the way it happens.

And I for the most part don't think there will be. I think like any season there will be some eps that don't quite hit the mark, but I hope there is a good mix between characters and story and keeping momentum going.
Particularly in the last 4/5 episodes, we don't want to see a repeat of BSG and its last half dozen eps -

I don't give two shits what the producers have said; THEY'RE LYING.
The black smoke / man in black is a nanobot colony. Jacob and MIB are from the future and the entire Island is Tunisia from the far future sent back to the distant past through a massive time travel accident. MIB wants to preserve the timeline; Jacob wants to alter it. MIB, a robot, must follow rules and protects Jacob, but wants to find a loophole to kill Jacob to stop him from altering time. MIB gave Jacob nanobots to keep him alive; the nanobots contain him recorded history from the future timeline. Jacob used that history to find each of the Oceanic 6 and gave each of them some nanobots. Jacob also gave some to Richard and that is what's keeping Richard alive. Jacob never uses the term nanobots. Everything else can be inferred from this. -
Jacob touching a young Kate, Sawyer, reviving Locke etc clearly indicate a real intention.
-
try watching the show sometime before posting. ITS ALL NANOBOTS!! good try though...
-
...I haven't given up on this show. I expect we'll get some answers. I expect we won't get everything answered. If enough things are answered, and answered in a way that creates overarching explanations that can be applied, without undue suspension of disbelief gymnastics,to the things that aren't, this show will be one of the greats. If they aren't, it isn't. It's really as simple as that. And I don't care how many premature apologists now start doing a dance that the show "was always about the characters" or "the journey is more important than the destination". This show was sold as a mystery. The mystery of the others, the Black Rock, the numbers, and on and on and all circling the big enchilada, the mystery of the island. Really they either deliver with a satisfying, compelling, original answer to that mystery or the show has failed. It was a failure with some great moments, a failure with some great episodes, but in the end a failure. I've still got faith that these folks might have those answers. It's disheartening in more ways than one to see so many folks who seem more invested in loving the show than they do in the show itself scramabling for justifications before the first episode of the last season has aired.
-
Go watch the far superior "Previously on Lost 2".
-
The producers said there was no time travel in LOST. Swore up and down.
BOOM, time travel.
The producers stated there were no alternate dimensions/timelines in LOST.
BOOM, Season Six (probably).
The producers said that NO WAY ARE THERE NANOBOTS.
Just you fuckin' wait and see the black smoke MIB guy be a nanobot colony from the future. -
post like they know whats actually going on. nice mindset there squash....

The Grand Unanswered Questions List in Chronological Order
by dapper swindler
After falling eight stories from a building, John Locke wasn’t able to walk for four years. But that all changed when he woke up on the island. How did the island heal him? And, perhaps more importantly, why?
It’s important to note that it’s likely we can attribute John’s survival of the fall to Jacob. It was pointed out how it was miraculous that John did not die from the fall. Miraculous indeed, John opened his eyes when Jacob touched him on the ground. He lived. But John did not regain the ability to walk until he came to the island.
Of course, this question raises the general question about the island’s ability to heal. Perhaps Locke was healed in the same way little Ben Linus was healed from a gunshot wound when Richard Alpert brought him to the temple. We also know that the island in general allows wounds to simply heal faster, which comes in handy considering the frequent gun and fist fights.
-
5. How and why did the island heal John Locke, enabling him to walk again?
-
What did I say that you are referring to? I do not believe in the theories that Jacob needed to 'touch' or 'give something' to the characters. I think he was only visiting them at different points in their lives to determine if he wanted to bring them to the island or not. If they were good candidates to 'prove' his point to the MIB

of a fucking season that u "non-likers" have'nt even FREAKING WATCHED YET!! damn settle the fuck down...whoops... oh yea it a typical top 10 aicn talkback BITCHFEST.
-
...yeah, but at this stage in the life of the show I can see saying that even if you think you have some pretty terrific stuff to show. There are some unreasonable expectations out there, and stoking them too much at this point could put you in the position of your finish seeming like an anticlimax no matter what you did. You know, it's quite possible they're already there. And yeah, I am worried they're going to blow it. And excited to see what they may be able to do. But the fun's in diving back in and hoping folks will deliver. Heck, I've still got scars from finding out the Cylons "plan" was kill everybody. I mean why keep reminding us that there was a "plan" when...ummm...that plan was sort of executed in the second hour of the mini? And by the way, I still think Galactica was a good show. It was ultimately a failure, but just like Lost it provided some great moments, some great episodes, and some good character work along the way.
-
Seriously, I have the season 1 dvd and Damon Lindelof is/was being very secretive about Walt's powers. They better tell us that one.

Red Ned Lynch - think calling BSG is a failure is a little harsh
by miyamoto_musashi
As I said I think it lost momentum in the last few episodes just before the final and could have been much tighter.
Really enjoyed the final apart from the look at the modern day world. Yeah the Starbuck reveal wasn't great either. But its a series I could rewatch again, maybe fastfoward through some parts in the last few eps and press stop before the modern world scene. -

I'm putting my Leno rant in here:
-
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41067
-
The worst part is that in the post interview you can watch online at Oprah.com. Not only is she talking with people who have NO IDEA what they're talking about because so many of them don't know the backstory (and I'm saying this about people on both sides of the spectrum, Conan and Leno supporters), but even SHE admits that she had didn't have the story right before going to interview him: SHE THOUGHT NBC PROPOSED THAT JAY AND CONAN WOULD BE SHARING THE TONIGHT SHOW. All she had to do was read one article and she'd know how absurd of a statement that was. She KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE SITUATION.
She didn't know that Jay was going to be kicked out and replaced by Letterman when he started when his ratings were in the shitter, but they gave him a chance.
LENO BLATANTLY LIED ABOUT MAKING "one little joke" about Letterman's infidelity AND SHE (and her editors/producers) LET HIM GET AWAY WITH IT.
She never called him out on the fact that "yes" he's saving his people's jobs, BUT WHAT ABOUT CONAN'S, WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T GET JOBS BECAUSE HE WENT ALONG WITH THE "COMPANY LINE" AND TOOK OVER THE 10PM SLOT AND PREVENTED HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FROM PUTTING DRAMAS ON THE AIR.
Leno had the audacity to cry about how hard it was to put on a show at 10 when the other networks wanted him to fail so they prevented guests from coming on his show. WELL WHAT ABOUT ALL THE GUESTS YOU STOLE FROM CONAN BY HAVING BASICALLY "THE TONIGHT SHOW" WITHOUT THE NAME AT 10PM.
Oprah also never acknowledges the fact that we live in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WORLD NOW. We have Tivo, we have the internet. We have different ways of watching Conan's show. Do I agree with Oprah, that if the people who supported him now had watched the show, this wouldn't have been an issue? Yes, I agree. But during the post interview on her site where she talks with the audience - which I really think is worth watching, not because it's informative on the "Late Night Wars," per say, but more so because of the cross-section of the country it shows, and also how ignorantly Oprah is for Jay - she calls out a woman for not watching the show, and another for not watching the show religiously. PEOPLE DIDN'T THINK THEY HAD TO WATCH THE SHOW RELIGIOUSLY BECAUSE CONAN WAS THE HOST OF THE TONIGHT SHOW. WE ALL THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO BE THERE FOR THE NEXT, AT LEAST, 10 YEARS!
I really wish Herc had made this a full article, because I really want to more people's reaction on this. -
Lost is without doubt the best show to be on TV for the past decade, only the sopranos and the wire come close to it.
If you don't like it you'll probably find CSI and American Idol more enjoyable. -

I know a couple people who say Lost is better than The Wire
by iamnicksaicnsn
because it's more ambitious, it's science fiction so it has to go all over the place, etc etc. And I sort of agree with that, but I also have to caveat that they are completely different genres and deal with incredibly different themes. I will say that The Wire at this point is still the better series. It was very well thought out, and rarely if ever did it have questionable character motivations. But Lost still has a chance. If they can wrap up the characters, not to mention most of the main questions, in a logical way, I might have to put them side-by-side, or maybe even Lost as Number 1. But there's so much to be answered. I always have wondered why some people are "chosen" to be healed and others are not, and I guess part of it is luck (and the - mostly - rule that when people die they die), part of it is how people are "chosen" by Jacob and otherwise, and part of them getting killed off is I guess just narrative necessity.
-
Little late but oh well, saw this and wanted to comment. It could be that Seth was 'meant' to be on the plane, as we've seen other people seemingly fated to get on the plane no matter what. Maybe Frank was not suppose to pilot the plane, ensuring that he'd discover found wreckage was fake and thus end up going to the island later. Seth, now having completed his purpose of flying them all to the island instead of Frank, was no longer needed and thus got smoked. Zing.
-
Last year I managed to tivo and archive the entire season, then bust it out during summer doldrums. Lost Marathon in July was awesome. Maybe I'll do again this year.
-
Thanx Sir! Just rying not to read this talkback. It's pointless due to people who 1. Dont bother reading the entire thread before posting their bullshit theories.
2. Post hate, but yet take time to post for a show they DONT like and waste time giving it input..(Howard Stern style)
3. Are just plain fuckin' trolls. -
Not going to say any of these have been definitively answered, because they haven't, but aren't we supposed to infer some of this?
Who keeps dropping off those Dharma supplies for Swan Station?
Couldn't those be time displaced drops. A plane was so off course that it didn't land until a dozen years later?
If Ben never spoke to Jacob, how did Ben know the Frozen Donkey Wheel was down there?
Couldn't Richard have told him or couldn't the other have been aware of it?
What was Faraday up to in Ann Arbor for three years?
Why? Is that important?
Why didn't the world end while they were building the Swan Station's 108-minute button?
What makes you think the world would have ended?
With the whole world at stake, why didn't the designers of the 108-minute button make the numerical disarm sequence less complicated?
Because the njumber are important and I aure we will get an explanation covering at least that aspect this season -
...I'll rewatch Galactica sometime myself. There are some great things in the show. And even if Lost rolls snake eyes for its final season I'm sure I'll still pull it down to watch too. BSG is a failure in that it set up the underpinnings for a mythology that the creators hadn't thought through. Because of this, when it came time to deliver the goods they couldn't. If the same thing happens with Lost then the same thing will be true with it. I'm really not trying to be harsh, but you have to be fair no matter how much you may have liked the show.
-
I'd argue that the monster is *very* consistent. 815 crashes, it kills one person; Rousseau's team lands, it kills one person; Keamy's team arrives, it kills one person.
-
Why is what Faraday did in Anne Arbour so important? Because he had a complete change of thinking, all of which occured OFF-SCREEN no less, and then came back with a crackpot theory that everyone followed. If Darlton don't answer this, that creates a massive whole in the plot of season 5.
Personally I thought all of Herc's questions were legitimate ones, and most refer to mistakes in continuity by the writers.
And anyone arguing LOST is better than The Wire is just wrong. Simple as -
not whole, that makes no sense
-
He was studying the Variables!
When he was sent to the Island by Whidmore, Charles told him the Island would heal his mind. It did.
In season 5's the Variable, he tells Jack that's what he's been up to. Trying to figure out a way to correct the timeline.
he tells Jack and Kate, (and for a more detailed explanation watch the outtake of it on bu-ray) that THEY are the Variables and have the power to change the future and timeline. -
I totally forgot about that.
-
It wouldn't shock me or probably any of you if we get more answers in the season premiere then we do in the finale that would IMO be better then just waiting for the final 5 or 3 ep but who knows with shows like this and BSG that suck u in with cryptic story lines u never get what u want in the last ep so here is to hoping that we get some things resolved right off the bat....
-
I do feel the question of how they sustained the electromagnetism so they could continue to build the Swan station is interesting.
If an H bomb goes off, how does all of your equipment/research/personnel survive?
What about the rest of the stations? How long do you think it took to build The Looking Glass or the Tempest even?
That's a big cleanup, unless the Island heals itself, ya know? -
If we get things answers in some form thru out the season then i think the creators of the show have a better chance of wrapping this in a prettier bow but FUCK me this is Hollywood that shit never happens....

On the Island?
If he kidnaps little Charlie, brings him back to the Island, then TAHT would give Des a reason to go back.
Plus it would help with my Penny & Desmond = Adam & Eve theory. They'd be alone and together for good. -
While Lindelof and Cuse may be trying to lower expectations when they say Lost is about the characters and the journey is more important than the destination, I'm afraid that they know they aren't going to answer many questions and are trying to deny most people watch Lost because of the countless mysteries.
I won't go into the reasons why but I also consider BSG to be a failure. After season 2 I was telling friends they should watch. Now I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.
When Lost ends a good way to judge the series will be if you would tell someone who has never seen an episode to devote their time to watching. -
I'm pretty sure the wheel was uncovered when Linus was a young kid on the island. Linus also comments that this wasn't the first time the island had to be moved. So clearly, at some point previously, either Linus of someone had to know about the wheel and what it did.
That is also why Whitmore can't get back to the island. It was moved to keep him from getting back. The island is hidden and the best people who know how to find it refuse to tell whitmore where it is or how to get back. -

I think the smoke monster is some sort of malfunctioning future
by themanwhocan
it wont be referred to as nanobots on the show even though for all intense and purposes it is! The writers have lied about time travel and other things before and made the excuse that they wanted people to be tricked into watching sci-fi show all along. They can’t go the “God did it” route because of the badly received (and deservedly so) BSG finale. So seemingly magic like future people with god like future tech and knowledge of the timeline (lottery numbers for one example) is the only other way to go. Which I’m fine with, as long as the big mysteries are dealt with during the last 18 episodes. That the Island is actually a chunk of Tunisia or some part of northern Africa from the future (or the past) is the most compelling explanation I’ve encountered in a while. I just hope they don’t wait till the last episode to show what happened following the MIB/Jacob conversation on the beech. And the rope sticking out of the ground leading towards the donkey wheel was a good call from one talkbacker. The fact that someone went to the trouble of filling in the well with dirt, hiding the wheel only to have some pesky time hoping hick blow its location is kind of funny. I hope we see a flashback of the people who were filling it in.
-
Damon aint havin' that. That's the stupidest idea I've ever heard.
-
Or at least inferrable for non-retards. I'm not gonna re-watch the 8 minute video and pick out every question that theyve answered, but at least 5 or 6 stuck out to me as having been either blatantly answered or can be inferred by not being a complete dolt. A lot of those nitpicky small "strange occurances" are there for YOU, the viewer,t o use your brain and figure out., They are going to write a script thats like "Oh, and this is why this happened because of this this and this." thats fucking boring. Use your brains. Plenty of that stuff has either been answered, it figure out-able if you arent dumb and pay attention, or is just entirely nitpicky inconsequential nonsense on things that were meant to add a layer of intrigue, but were never going to be out and out "explained" People expect too much.
-
(just to start) 'Why didn't the world end when they were building the 108-minute button thing" and "why didnt they make the world saving 108-minute button less complicated" those are asshole questions. fuck you for being so nitpicky and pathetic you have to tear down the basic constructs of the show. The real mysteries are there...but those arent them. Those are stupid bullshit questions that don't matter. Its a tv show. The major mysteries and actual PLOT motivations need to make sense. Not that shit.

I'm sure Ben and the Others had to of had knowledge about the destructive power of the Swan Station.
I know that they could monitor the Swan, but why would they even trust people not to go crazy down there? Why risk them not pushing the button.
In fact, where were they when Desmond followed Kelvin the day Kelvin tried to escape on the boat?
Maybe it was a "still keep Dharma in the dark that we've wiped them out" kinda ploy by the Others. -
Herc, if you want the scoop, let me know and I'll shoot you an email with some pics and a description of the footage.

Interesting question. The others are dumb, but that's a good one. Assuming in a timeline in which the Swan is built that the 815ers didn't nuke the energy, they buried it in cement by somehow not using or wearing metal? And in a timeline wear the energy is nuked, the electromagnestism is negated by Jughead and the Swan isn't built at all.
We are dealing with alternate reality now here people. All bets for what we've seen are off. In fact everything we have seen the last 5 seasons HAS BEEN AN ALTERNATE TIMELINE. That's why it doesn't seem to make sense to the viewers or the survivors. Faraday said in The Variable that the plane was "SUPPOSED" to land in LA, and that none of the 815ers were supposed to be there. This means that everything we have seen to this point has been an alternate timeline the island is attempting to course correct while the "TRUE" timeline in which the plane does land safely simultaneously exists and the 815ers are trapped in the wrong timeline.
So my theory as to what we will see in Season 6 is the 815ers existing in both the alternate timline we have been witnessing for 5 seasons and the true timeline in which they don't crash. I'm not sure how this will resolve itself but it will be fun to watch. Will they have to make a choice between the two? Will the realities converge? Will the 815ers Jacob touched retain knowledge in the true timeline of their alternate realities in which they did crash? These are the questions you should be asking. -
"If enough things are answered, and answered in a way that creates overarching explanations that can be applied, without undue suspension of disbelief gymnastics,to the things that aren't, this show will be one of the greats.
If they aren't, it isn't."
Who gets to define a satisfying answer? Or how far disbelief can be suspended? Or even what the questions are? Herc wants more on Daniel, but I find that story closed. I want more on Annie (so that I can better understand Ben), but probably I won't (and that's OK). Someone else wants more Libby, but I'm OK with letting that one die.
You say, "This show was sold as a mystery." I say you're wrong. A mystery show gives you clues, promises you answer, and owes you that. "Lost" is a show ABOUT mystery, about navigating a confusing, weird, sometimes seemingly-magical world where not everything makes sense. You know, like life. It owes you nothing but an unending sense of vertigo. "Lost" is like an idea sandbox. The writers get to build up idea sand castles (like Dharma, like time travel) and knock them back down. And YOU get to play in that sandbox, too. If they "answered everything" the show would be as dull as "Ugly Betty" and the sandbox would be just theirs, not ours.
I would never say the show is perfect, and I have no idea of you or I will enjoy the end. But hanging all hopes on "answers" for a show that is clearly delves deeply into the impossible and is, in the end, all made up, is silly. -
Cooooool. I just hope it's not like that O-6 feel of "We have to go back" to whatever reality they decide to choose.
Wonder if we'll see more of Jacob meeting with other 815'rs in the past. That would be a cool way to get people back. -
I want them to answer how Locke, Ecko, Desmond survived the Hatch Implosion at the end of Season 2.
-
That's a joke, right?
-
Seriously....it imploded.
Locke, Ecko, Desmond were inside.
Locke suddenly can't talk. Why?
How did he avoid being crushed in the implosion?
Desmond Is naked. Did he physically time travel when he turned the key?
None of them made it out in time.
Yet they are all ok.
Why?
-
Jack, Sawyer, Kate, etc all belong to the island. They always have and always will, and just forgot they belong there. All of this is just them finding their way back home. And nanobots from the future.
-
Write a little letter to Damon & Carlton asking them to explain that. Cause that's an important mystery of LOST. For real. Jesus.

You've seen it! :)
I think they make it us as they go along, personally, but can't wait to see how it ends! -
The fuckin pilot was NEVER supposed to be on that plane! WTF are you talking about. It's a course correction thing! Frank Lapidus was supposed to pilot that thing 815.
What "PLAN" are you talking about?
Your plan to smoke weed and then post LOST theories? -
every Q&A with every producer and writer of LOST and every question they answer just believe the opposite...
-
Take it easy.
I'm a huge Lost fan.
I think it is a valid question to be asking how anyone can survive a hatch implosion?
-
Good luck getting it answered. On another note, suspend your beliefs for this show just a little.

Do the writers seriously expect us to believe that band name has no significance? And WHY was Vincent a yellow Lab?

NAAAA NOOOOO BOOOOOTTTTSSSZZZZZ
Here's my theory. Praise AICN for at least allowing BREAK tags here. You want something better, Harry? You know who I am, just shoot me an e-mail and I'll develop you a proper proposal and and we'll talk costs and time.
Before you read this theory, you must understand the following
The producers have explicitly stated the following 3 paraphrased items in various interviews/podcasts :
1 - time travel is not a factor in this show.
Time travel has become a major factor in this show.
2 - alternate dimensions/timelines are not a factor in this show.
Alternate dimensions/timelines are likely a major factor in Season Six.
3 - nanobots (microscopic robot colonies) are not a factor in this show.
At this point, we can believe nothing the producers say.
My theory hinges on the producers having lied in the third statements above, as they lied in the first two. It is logical for them to lie, as there is no reason for them to confirm any theory until their show has been produced.
My theory (as follows) will explain the following key points, which will create inferences to solve all mysteries across LOST.
KEY POINTS
1 - the origins of Jacob and his nemesis, the Man in Black (MIB)
2 - the origin of the Island
3 - the destination of Tunisia
4 - the goals of Jacob and the MIB
5 - what Jacob is and what MIB is and what the Black Smoke is
6 - why MIB hates Jacob and must find a loophole to stop him
7 - why Jacob and Richard do not age
8 - why Jacob lights right up in the flames
9 - how Ben can control the Black Smoke
10 - how Jacob can speak languages flawlessly and knows arts like weaving
11 - how Jacob found each member of the Oceanic 6 through recorded history
I've posted an earlier version of this theory at DarkUFO, but too many readers
1 - did not like the terminology I used
2 - did not like or understand the concept of nanobots
3 - did not appreciate logic loopholes
EVIDENCE WHICH LED ME TO CREATE MY THEORY
1 - MIB has stated he must find a loophole, which infers he must obey rules.
2 - Every "touch" encounter between Jacob and a member of the Oceanic 6 was during a time when that person's name was about to enter the public record.
THE THEORY
KEY POINTS 1 - 3 : ORIGINS
Jacob and his nemesis are both from the far future, as is the entire island landmass. They were all sent back in time to the distant past due to some sort of accident involving time travel, which took (rather, takes) place in a scientific lab in the far future. Likely, this scientific lab was (rather, will be) located in future Tunisia, and the entire landmass of the LOST island is the same landmass currently located in Tunisia, but from the far future; with the decades of age it has undergone, it is unrecognizable.
KEY POINT 4 : GOALS
Jacob's Goal:
Jacob wants to alter the timeline so the events that sent him to the past never take place.
MIB's Goal:
MIB wants to preserve the timeline, so something detrimental doesn't happen, as MIB suspects it will. It is possible that in MIB's original source future, the island of LOST existed and therefore an older duplicate MIB and possibly a Jacob existed; therefore MIB wants to preserve this time loop, but he doesn't deem an older Jacob as necessary to exist in that future.
KEY POINTS 5-6 : THE BLACK SMOKE AND THE LOOPHOLE
Jacob is human. MIB is the black smoke. Specifically, MIB is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) built into a nanobot (or microscopic robot) colony created in the far future; this might not be referred to explicitly as nanobots, but it can be inferred. Therefore, MIB is also the black smoke. AI are traditionally set to follow logic rules (see Robocop, Terminator, or I,Robot for basic examples). MIB's rules include not harming Jacob and/or the timeline, hence the first comment he makes to Jacob about hating Jacob for trying to change the timeline, which makes MIB's job of preserving the timeline harder, and being unable to kill Jacob, which would alter the timeline. The rules governing MIB are thusly:
RULE 1 - DO NOT HARM THE TIMELINE
RULE 2 - DO NOT HARM JACOB
RULE 3 - DO NOT HARM YOURSELF (cannot self-terminate - THIS IS KEY!).
KEY POINTS 7 - 9 : AGING, JACOB ON FIRE, CONTROL BLACK SMOKE
The MIB nanobot particles, being high technology from the future, can preserve flesh. MIB having given Jacob some particles can explain Jacob's inability to age; it can also explain why he lights right up into flames; he's actually become aged, brittle flesh over the centuries, held together by robots. Jacob having MIB's nanobots means that Jacob is now detected as a part of MIB; therefore MIB cannot harm him. Jacob gifted some nanobots from himself (he did not refer to them as nanobots) to Richard to preserve Richard. This is why Richard does not age, and this is why MIB does not affect Richard. Richard may have given some to Ben; this is why Ben can summon the Black Smoke to an extent.
The Black Smoke can also take various forms. Jacob has aged enough that he, too, may be able to take forms.
KEY POINT 10 : KNOWLEDGE AND LANGUAGE
Being high technology from the future, MIB / the Black Smoke contains a memory database with the entire recorded knowledge of human history up till the point of the event which sent it back in time. This database also includes languages and other knowledge that one might find in, for a general example, Wikipedia. As someone gifted with parts of the MIB, Jacob can access this database, which explains how he speaks so well to Sun and Jin.
KEY POINT 11 : LOCATING THE OCEANIC 6
When Jacob visited each person in the last episode of season 5:
- Hurley was released from prison, potentially creating a O6 out of jail huge news story; RECORDED HISTORY.
- Sayid was at the death of Nadia; they both might have died in the assassination attempt, creating news; RECORDED HISTORY.
- Kate was about to get arrested and given a public police record; RECORDED HISTORY.
- Sawyer was at his parent's funeral, which is usually announced in the newspaper; RECORDED HISTORY.
- Locke had fallen several stories, and would have died, which would be in the newspaper; RECORDED HISTORY.
- Sun and Jin were at their, likely newsworthy (Paik Industries daughter marriage today!), wedding; RECORDED HISTORY.
- Jack was at a hospital where he worked.
All but one were publicly-recorded events, Jack's event, stand out as newsworthy, but maybe his patient was supposed to die? There might have possibly been a notable lawsuit involved going forward. If you knew Jack worked at a hospital, chances are it's pretty easy to locate him there on any given day.
With Jacob able to access the database from his timeline, he could locate each of the above people at their times and touch them; gifting them with a part of MIB. Per RULE 3, this would make them unable to be directly harmed by MIB, but would make MIB curious about them (Why can't I harm this person!) This would also have explained how Locke was healed from death.
Notable, Hurley and Sayid were touched AFTER they came back from the island; there is significance here. MIB knows that he cannot directly harm Kate, Sun, Jin, Jack, Locke and Sawyer. MIB does not yet know that he cannot touch Hurley and Sayid.
WHY DID JACOB TOUCH THEM
Jacob touched each to plant them, as he knew from news reports (Oceanic 6) they would crash on the island and survive. It is likely that Sawyer and Jin will also get off the island at some point and there will be a public news report about them in Season 6 for Jacob to follow.
WHY DOES BLACK SMOKE KILL
MIB kills select people as according to his timeline, they are supposed to be dead. When Locke and The Black Smoke encounter each other, the smoke doesn't kill Locke, because he senses himself on Locke. This is also why MIB didn't kill Kate when she and Juliet were hiding in a tree; it only took pictures. According to the news reports, Locke is already supposed to be dead in MIB's time (from falling out the window), so MIB can tell he is a paradox. This is why MIB picks Locke to manipulate; MIB believes Locke doesn't belong in the timeline and thinks Jacob trusts Locke.
MIB picks Locke as his disguise because Locke is a living paradox due to Jacob's involvement. Therefore the concept behind Locke being a paradox helps break some of the logic rules which bind MIB from allowing Jacob's death. By masquerading as Locke, he can finally manipulate the world to where Jacob gets killed and the AI rules are absolved.
THE ONE THING I CAN'T EXPLAIN
I cannot explain how Jacob (or Richard) gets off the island, but since my theory is the island contains laboratories from the future, it probably contains an equivalent futuristic method of transportation, akin to the Frozen Donkey Wheel.
I've written a lot here and there are items I need to get to, which include WHY MIB can only masquerade as dead people, and all the odd psychic phenomenon from Miles and Walt, and whether Aaron is significant.
-
If you want my info and don't have it, ask Ambush Bug.
-
On Key point 11:
Jack made the news as he pulled the woman and her kid out of the car on the bridge, as he was about to kill himself.
Could have been recorded.
Interesting theory, but I really hope it's not that technical or futuristic. Nanobots would be the equivalent to midichlorians man, lol.
Just sayin' -
He has some interesting theories on that scene with Cindy in SIASL. He seems to insinuate that Cindy is basically dead or been removed fro the game and is a physical manifestation of the whispers which seem to be people watching over the events on the island. Hence the "Were here to watch." line. Not to mention Jack had just been sleeping right before her visit so it may also have been a dream or vision and the lighting of the scene appears off.
This is completely ludicrous of course, but hey, you never know with Lost. -
Yeah, maybe. But why haven't we seen her since season 3? If we did tho, that probably be a dead giveaway she was the entity of the whispers. That's maybe why we have different forms of reincarnations of people around the Island possibly.
-

catch it while you can.
-
Correct that Jacob could have learned which hospital Jack worked at from the news, but that news would have been reported after the O6 got back, and Jacob visited Jack on the night of a completely different surgery. Maybe that surgery made (or would have made, had Jacob not talked to him) the news, but there's nothing to substantiate that. Either way, Jacob visiting the O6 at those exact times of public record, plus MIB mentioning he had to follow rules for interaction are the two key points to support my theory.
I'm sure they've come up with something; I just don't want this to crash and burn (in my eyes) like BSG and X-Files did with their storylines. In the end, BSG was a big letdown, and X-Files failed to keep track of itself. Notably, I love the ending of The Sopranos. Tony gets shot in the head by the guy coming out of the bathroom; same guy who followed his son in. The black silence is what Tony sees because he's dead. -
I'd be willing to bet it's voices heard from different timelines on the Island. Of course, they seem to be the trademark of the Others.
Ben warns Danielle about them in season 5.
We hear the whispers in season 4 as the Others are just about to attack Keamy's Mercs.
Cindy disappears right after we hear the whispers in season 2, and then is seen in season 3 walking with the Others.
So, who knows. I do hope that will be explained. -
I just think it was too smart an ending for the fanbase it drew.
But that's true about Jack. Wonder if it's the miracle surgery he did to "fix" Sarah.
I tell ya, this feedback is great. Tuesday before the premier at my LOST Meetup in Hell's Kitchen, we're having LOST jeopardy. I am polishing my skill brother! -

16 seconds 23 milliseconds and 42 nanoseconds until the LOST season premiere.

We will have no more LOST to look forward to...

-
Why do some people think, "Nanobots would be the equivalent to midichlorians?"
Nanobots are technically possible especially in the future.
-
Its actually $4815.16 with $23.42 in taxes and fees!
-
And no, I think nanobots are = midichlorians in story wise.
Why the fuck did we need such an iconic entity such as The Force dissected? It was a well-enough with all fans. What an outrage.
Now with Nanobots, that's just reaching. I personally hope smokey is something else. I'm not digging the Island is from the future theory. -
BOOOO SNIPING.
-
Smokey is actually the smoke from Cigarette Smoking Man's lifetime of smoking.
Smoke. -
I gave in and watched the 1st 4 minutes. Interesting.
-
Wouldn't he know? Plot hole? I won't accept, just so Ben wouldn't get suspicious.
-
I only remember him asking Ben in season 4 with a gun to his head. And Locke was alive then.
-
Herc should YouTube it.
-
That the writers negotiated a certain number of episode to finish the series, then apparently didn't leave themselves enough time to probably answer some pretty major questions. I'm not demanding an answer to every little thing, but if they ever claim they didn't answer stuff because they didn't have enough time....
-
At the ARG Gallery event last month I asked Carlton Cuse if Cindy and the kids story was done or if we would get some backstory. He told me that we would see them in the Premiere and get some more story about them.
-
...will never be completely answered. All the people who keep stating as fact that they will be are fooling themselves. Too many holes were dug with too many different shovels to ever fill them all. Hopefully they'll fill all the big ones, or at the very least stop themselves from falling in one they can't climb out of.
-
"Why is what Faraday did in Anne Arbour so important? Because he had a complete change of thinking, all of which occured OFF-SCREEN no less, and then came back with a crackpot theory that everyone followed. If Darlton don't answer this, that creates a massive whole in the plot of season 5" Can someone give me context for this statement? What significant change is this person talking about?
-
doesn't automatically prompt you to come along, pull down your proverbial pants, and take a dump in them, kapische? Nuff said.
-
Seen as how 'this person' is me I feel best qualified to answer your question. Faraday spends his whole life studying time travel and saying that the past is the past and cannot be changed, no matter what you do. Whatever happened, happened. Okay? Still with me? Good.
Then he goes to Anne Arbour for 3 years and when he comes back his mind is completely changed, the past CAN be changed, because all us people are variables and we all have free will. HOW did he come to this conclusion? What happened in Ann Arbour that caused this massive change in thinking? That is what I asked, because if we are never told this, then Faraday's change of heart is simply a plot-device to get everyone on board to blow up the bomb.
Is that better? Jees, I thought it was pretty clear the first time I wrote it. -
WAAAAAAALLLLLLLLT!
-
I think I've just realised that the entire series is Christian's Death dream.
Apologies if I'm right. -
...not just a Kate Bush reference, but a reference to the Cronenbergesque Experiment IV. Well done. Extremely well done. I just hope there's someone there to flip the switch.
-
I have said this to you before and I will try to politely express it here again. You are taking this all WAY too seriously. I love Lost, if I didn't I wouldn't feel the need to post about it and express my worries concerning the end of the show. But dude, I DO have the right to not blindly follow the herd. If I want to be apprehensive I have that right. And really, it's not that big a deal. But I see you, in every Lost thread, going on and on about how much you know and how you're right about everything. Duuuuuude, reeeelaaaaax. It's just not that big a deal. It's a TV show. Ya know? You have repeatedly questioned me coming back here to admit that I was wrong if the show does what everybody is hoping it does in the final season. I have repeatedly told you I will be happy to do so if that's the case. What I want to know is will YOU come back here and admit that you were wrong when only 15 of the 1249 things you've claimed you "know" about were correct? Will you admit that you were wrong? Because, dude, it's IMPOSSIBLE for them to answer all the questions everyone has in one season. Seriously, impossible. But if they've come up with a convenient way to just write around those problems... siiigh. Never mind. I just don't think you get it.
