SCOTT PILGRIM's Lookin' To Get Lucky On August 13th, 2010! And A Trailer Leaks To The Internet?

Published at:  Jan 28, 2010 3:30:22 PM CST

Beaks here...

You're read the early raves! Now... enjoy the excruciating seven-month-long wait!

A press release from Universal shot out across the land today, announcing that Edgar Wright's SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, based on the frighteningly brilliant comic book series by Bryan Lee O'Malley, will hit theaters on August 13th, 2010. That's just close enough to Comic Con (July 22nd - 25th) to ignite speculation that there might be an early word-of-mouth screening sometime during the big geek gathering. Not to put any pressure on Universal or anything...

For those who've yet to experience the power and the glory of O'Malley's soon-to-be-six-part tale, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD is an action-packed romantic comedy in which the titular character (Michael Cera) does battle with the seven evil ex-boyfriends of the lovely Ms. Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). For those who can't wait for the movie, you can buy the first five installments of O'Malley's series online, or, better yet, at your local comic book store.

Wow! Big news broke while I was writing this! Straight from Edgar Wright's Twitter...

"The 'Scott Pilgrim' trailer. Featuring all seven evil exes! Enjoy."

He could shit into a bucket and I'd pay $10 to look at it. Why? Because he'd do it well and I know I'd enjoy seeing it. Simple as that. I haven't seen Michael Cera enough to hate him, so I'm definitely onboard to see Scott Pilgrim. Anybody else with me?

    by themandrakeroot

...and I'll say it again. Michael Cera in the lead role could be a major detriment. I loved his work on Arrested, and Superbad was funny before it got grating due to everyone quoting it non-stop. His Michael and Clark stuff was funny too, but since then, his one trick pony routine has become painful. I think a lot of comedy actors these days are extremely one-note, which is a shame. Once you see the same role for the fifth time, it loses it's effect and the film drags. I'm worried that Scott Pilgrim will suffer from this, which could be a shame. Hope I'm proven wrong.

Not 1 thing about Cera and the character make any sense at all other than Cera played bass in that Nick and Nora movie. Don't worry about Cera

    by the_box_drone

I'm giving Cera the benefit of the doubt. We think he's a one-trick-pony because he only gets hired to do the same damn trick. He's more type casted than anything else. Scott Pilgrim, as portrayed in the comics, is anything but an introvert, and he's more of a geek than an "apple hipster" - If the movie plays him as he's written in the comics, then we're going to see a whole new side of Cera. I trust Wright's judgment.

There are only so many times that you can post phony stories, trick your users into clicking on prank videos, post links to trailers requiring "age verification", etc. before we stop using your site. There are plenty of other places we can go that don't do this shit. I come here for movie news. To be frustrated by trickery and eighth grader antics, I'll go to 4chan. by kammich

i'm a sucker for reading things that i know are being fast-tracked to film adaptations, and i'm between books right now so i decided to start the Pilgrim books. about halfway through the 2nd book, really enjoying it. i was hooked the second i saw that the band's name was "sex bob-omb"(bob-omb has been an occasional screen name of mine). i think the strength of the books so far is the supporting cast of characters, so i'm excited that so many solid names are attached for such parts in the film: Culkin, Webber, Evans, Schwartzman, etc. good stuff.
