CW Pilots Greened!! Wyoming Horse Farm Tale From GILMORE GIRLS Creator Sherman-Palladino!! McG's Reboot Of LA FEMME NIKITA!!

Published at:  Jan 27, 2010 4:36:21 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Amy Sherman Palladino, the “Gilmore Girls” creator who was not involved in the show’s single disastrous season on The CW, just got a greenlight for a new CW family pilot about a Wyoming horse farm.

CW also just greenlight a pilot from McG (“Charlie’s Angels,” “Terminator Salvation”) and writer-producer Craig Silverstein (creator of Fox's horrible Ron Livingston hostage-negotiator dramedy "Standoff") that would reboot Luc Besson’s “La Femme Nikita.” It will apparently have nothing to do with the version that ran on USA from 1997 to 2001. “In this version, Nikita goes rogue and a new assassin is trained to replace her,” says James Hibberd of the Hollywood Reporter.

But if new assassins are trained . . .

    by skidmarkedundies

after Nikita goes rogue, how is it Le Femme Nikita? Are they chasing after her? Or is it the next generation or something? Ah McG. Always ready to cash in on someone else's franchise.

    by carmillavondoom

GG should have ended when Rory graduated High School. Fact. The creators had no idea where to go from there, and it shows.

An LFN reboot? With McG? Oh, God.

    by scoobysnack

Many people don't realize how groundbreaking La Femme Nikita was as a TV series. Alias stole the concept whole cloth, and the series' use of fashion and music had profound effects on future TV series, not necessarily those related to spy drama, either. So, if McReboot is going to do ANY justice to this series, he better consult Joel Surnow, whose aesthetic sensibilities made the series what it was. Stunt-casting members of the previous cast may help, but short of that, this reboot will fail. It's clear he doesn't get what made the show compelling in the first place... Nikita's angst over how her moral code conflicted with that of her "employers." Sigh.

    by barry_woodward

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember you saying you weren't going to watch the show after ASP left. I'm just wondering if your "disastrous" label is second hand information from other fans that stuck it out or if you eventually broke down and watched it for yourself.

    On the other hand...

    by red ned lynch

...I really don't want a McG version of Nikita. Nikita wasn't a particularly smart concept in the first place (and hey, I liked the movie but it's still true) so if you dumb it down McG style you're going to end up with a show that needs a ventilator to remember to breathe.

    ASP has Diane English syndrome

    by mjgtexas

A witty chick who caught lightning in a bottle for two solid seasons, threw in a bastard kid story line that forever ruined the show, then uses the same screwball formula and style in future creations that go dead on arrival. In five years, I exprect ASP to make a bad feature film remake with Meg Ryan and Annette Bening.

La Femme Nikita? why? that show was perfect. And it wasn't because of "Nikita's angst", that was actually annoying. it was because Michael Samuel was a proper bad-ass. Jack Bauer could learn some lessons from him.

Supernatural, good. Chuck....has it's fans, I've never really watched. And Human Target could really turn into something cool once they get into a groove, the last two episodes have been pretty fun. Silly, but fun.

    by auriellis

Good plot, nice politics, excellent action. The two leads were phenomenal...although it did get very stupid with Michael and Nikita's on again off again crap at the end of the 3rd season and the beginning of the fourth. In fact, if you ignore the shit that was the 5th season (HATED IT), the real finale at the end of Season 4 was so perfect for the theme of the show....that being that nothing is what it seems. I don't know if McG can ever make it as good.

    by carmillavondoom

ugh. Total failure. ASP forgot how to write her own characters. And then she started letting her husband contribute to the show which just made it worse. Season 1-3 of GG: GREAT SHOW, interesting characters, good writing, a lot of fun. 4-7: Much, much less of anything good. Paris for instance, should have been gone after season 3 was over.

    by d.vader

Thank God he never got his American version of Spaced off the groud. God this guy has a terrible sense of how story should progress. After hearing his ideas about the Terminator Salvation ending and it's sequel, I will never trust him again when he has a hand in shaping a story. As a director for hire, he's fine. But a developer? TERRIBLE.

I like a lot of the stuff on TV

    by rabidfnark

that bear's McG's name: Supernatural, Chuck, Human Target, But hasn't La Femme Nikita (and stuff like it) been done to death? Do we really need another heroine firing a gun/ flipping people over their shoulder? Although, I guess McG wouldn't recognize overkill if it bit him on the ass. And I'll give the horse farm thing a look when I'm feeling suitably...I don't know of a word that implies emotional/in need of family bonding/looking for some really quick back and forth dialogue equally, but when I feel that way, I'll watch it.

Hey now, just wanted to let you both know you weren't dreaming. It was
called "Return of Jezebel James" starred Parker Posey, and was put out of its misery after 3 episodes.
Lauren Ambrose was in it though, nice to see her getting work! But with Posey, ASP, and that premise, you could see how it might be a bit insufferable.

Return was about sisters with one being a surrogate for the other's baby. We are asking about a different show, it's about a family of novelists.

    by demosthenes2

Why she was insisting on a two-year contract when it was obviously going to be the final season anyway... It was alienating to the fans. In one of the first episodes of the final season, Rory and Paris were talking about sexting their boyfriends, and it was like, "What is this show? Who are these people?"

    by the mcpoyle clan

was enjoyable, even if the Mumbly-Monosyllabic-Michael relationship got tiring. The truncated last-minute final season was pretty wretched, though. Sakhoff would be an ok casting choice; she's got the same vaguely masculine-faced blonde thing going. JJ Abrams owes a debt of gratitude to Surnow and Cochran for giving him the template for a network show that would bring him to prominence. Is ASP gonna work a porn name into the title of the new series? Hung is already taken.

    A rogue assassin?

    by the starwolf

Say it isn't so! Just because a shadow organization practically steals someone's life and forces them to become an inhuman killing machine is no reason for that killer to turn on them. Oh, wait ... NOIR, ANGEL HEART, ... you'd think they'd learn, but no.

    by belledame

it was flawlessly stylish and simply excellent. jennifer garner owes that show a huge debt. alias' first episode ripped off lfn series, point of no return and the original movie all in one shot.

remaking it is senseless. just get the syndication rights back from oxygen or whoever.

That fourth-season LFN episode was called "Time To Be Heroes," and yes, it was intended as a pilot for a new series. But the USA network execs were too busy creating plenty of failed series rather than extend the reach of USA's only successful show at the time.

    Gilmore Girls

    by my pretty pony

I started to dislike the show as soon as Rory went to college. She became increasingly annoying and that's when they started to throw in all of the stupid storylines that ruined the show-- Rory sleeping w/ her married ex, dating that smug bastard, Logan, and then getting arrested, dropping out of school and living in her grandparents' pool house. Then there was Luke's extremely annoying daughter and her mother, Luke and Lorelai's on and off-again relationship, and Lorelai marrying Christopher instead. Oh, man. Rory became the kind of uppity, entitled 'rich' girl Lorelai couldn't stand, and the producers didn't seem to understand that viewers actually wanted to see Luke and Lorelai as a happy couple for more than a few episodes. They kept creating these ridiculous situations for no other purpose than to keep them apart.
