comics question: Does "Thy Kingdom Come"

have anything to do with the other Alex Ross book called "Kingdom Come?" Also, Bouny, I think the shift has to do with new showrunners who came in 2 (?) seasons ago.

    thy kingdom come

    by ryanbraun14

yes, its the REAL 'sequel' i guess, of Kingdom come, and its AWESOME. They did a PATHETIC 'sequel' called 'The Kingdom' and it sucked on so many levels... Thy Kingdom Come (which is only the first half of the story arc) is with Alex Ross again, and in some issues the art is just as good as kingdom come.

I doubt that will be the only worthwhile scene. I have a feeling a lot of effort was put into those 2 episodes and I think it'll be top-notch. Weren't the episodes written by Geoff Johns? He wrote "Legion", which was excellent. I also thought they did a good job with the Justice League episode.

    This season of Smallville...

    by master bruce

has been the best ever! And that is due to the new showrunners actually embracing the DC Universe!(What a concept!) They're not emabarassed by the source material like so many Hollywood directors, producers, etc. who make these projects. Hope these guys & Welling can produce spin-off tv series as well, like JSA, GREEN ARROW & maybe even SUPERMAN himself - on either tv or film!

    Doomsday liberties

    by ryanbraun14

the way they handled doomsday wasn't as much as a liberty--doomsday emerges from being buried in the comics, smallville only changed the way he was buried. If God decides to take an interest in Smallville, the show would continue as a real superman show, and a few years into that show, doomsday would re-emerge and kill superman, then they would introduce the replacement supermans, they might keep steel, but superboy could be kept, and introduced into the teen titans, and then there would be a teen titans show, and after a couple years of that, they'd be the titans. really, though, i think for a new superhero show, NIGHTWING would have HUGE potential: you can ALLUDE to the fact that he was raised by batman and was robin. nightwing would be a great character for the show, because of how he was raised and the constant internal struggle of his is how he doesn't want to become as untrusting and as obsessive about being a vigilante as batman, against his young adult personality who doesn't know if he does or doesn't need friends and people he can trust completely

    by booboosdaddy

I followed this show as a guilty pleasure since season 1. I likened it to a train wreck. "Hm. Maybe the next car (episode) will be better. No. No, this is shitty, too. Maybe the next one? No, I'll keep moving along and maybe they will be better..."
I suffered through all of boring, mopey eyed Kristin Kreuk, who sucked the life out of every scene with her GRAVITAS. I suffered through witch Lana, the trip to China that farmboy Clark happens to show up in and nobody bats an eye, really bad wire fu...on an on.
And every week, I vowed never to come back.
NOw, with Millar and Gough gone, I can't wait for each new ep! Thanks for bailing, you Poozers. You guys sucked! Now we have finally been getting to people who enjoy the DC canon.

    by shermdawg

The only thing that piqued my interest is they went back on location finally and showed the farm. Too much crap going on nowadays with lackluster characters amidst cheap looking sets and awful lighting. I don't give a shit how many comic characters they attempt to cram in there, they'll never match the quality of Jonathan and Lionel. The show back then, while being held down with more melodrama than it needed, was much more genuine than this last ditch effort to pull support for the franchise given it appears it's the only thing Superman related WB has. If there's a season ten, they really need to scale back. GET RID OF OLLIE, use Mack on a limited basis, and take more of an effort to stay focus rather than the scatterbrained fanboy crap we've been getting. I'd like to have actual characters again.

    by drath

Between Matt Bomer (potential Superman), Brandon Rougth (last Superman), Jordana Brewster (SHOULD have been Lois Lane by now), and Kruek herself all being ally/rivals/opponents to Chuck, it's a given that Welling will eventually be on there too right? I'm okay with this season, but the Doomsday fight last season was the biggest let down since Heroes' season 1 finale. And Clark in fucking black is so damned 90s, it makes me sick they've done something so predictable and so uninspired.

Jaka, start with S8. That's where I started a month ago.

    by flickchick85

I stopped watching the show in S3 because it was just horrid, but I heard about the new showrunners who took over in S8 and supposedly made it into more of an actual Superman show, and for the most part, I was pleasantly surprised. S8 has PLENTY of misfires, and it's still more of a guilty pleasure type of show than what I usually go for, but it's definitely embraced it's comic book side and dropped the whole teen angst angle that killed it for me in the beginning. I actually enjoy some of the characters now. And aside from the finale, I actually liked the way they handled the whole Doomsday storyline, as a kind of prequel to his storyline from the comics. But the talkbackers are right: the current season (S9) is EASILY the best they've had so far. S8 was more of a step in the right direction than anything else.

i can't believe how people don't like Ollie

    by ryanbraun14

Granted, I'm basing my Green Arrow knowledge on the graphic novels, starting with Year One and then Quiver up till now, and I think the smallville green arrow is SPOT ON... especially the conflict between the Ollie's set of believes, morals and values and those of Clark... And i LOVE the new look of the show, style was. If you're one of those people who thinks they know about superheroes yet hasn't read many comics, then i could see why this season might seem underwhelming. While lex and lionel were the best actors on the show, you can only have so much lex, and since lex leaving, the show has moved FOWARD... if you're saying the show suffers because of the loss of those two characters, then you liked smallville for all the reasons i watched it and saw nothing but missed opportunities... heroes became terrible and it was so frustrating to see that happen because they could have ripped off superhero gold from comics yet the prestensious douchebag tim kring decided he is too good for superheroes but thinks he can keep credibility and self-respect by BLATANTLY ripping off The Fly, because that's more high-brow, yet the average heroes viewer would be FAR more likely to see the fly ripoff than seeing a comic book rip off.

and as for calling this a 'tv movie'

    by ryanbraun14

yeah, its two episodes one after another, technically not a movie, but i don't blame them one bit--it WILL get people to give the show a chance after bailing on it. They hear 'tv movie' which implies that it will be a self-contained story in the smallville universe, so they won't think 'too bad i bailed on the show years ago so i won't be able to understand whats going on even though i really want to see how the justice society is used.' Its a marketing strategy and a good one at that--they WILL regain viewers, and the new showrunners deserve to get people to give it a second chance, and i think the tv movie idea will do just that.

Just about every episode has been above average. Metallo, Ollie's fall from grace, Lois and Clark acting like Lois and friggin' Clark. Even the Wonder Twins seemed semi-cool this season. And Shermdawg, what happened to you? You used to be the show's biggest supporter when it sucked. Now you're pissed not every seen isn't in that goddamn barn? And the lighting adds more style and makes it more like an actual comic book. I do agree about Mack though. I've hated her since day one. ...I just don't like where they've taken her. Just like Lana, she should've died. And just like Lana, we wouldn't of had to sit through a year of a shitty relationship involving her.

    Chloe

    by booboosdaddy

I think the creators dug themselves into a hole with Chloe. From the get go, Allison Mack made Chloe a vibrant, exciting character, contrary to Kreuk's Lana. Chloe wasn't even a part of the original comics. NOw, they have a character in which it seems the only thing they can do for the sake of Superman lore is to kill her off or send her to another dimension or something to keep with the comics.

And while I'm on the whole Lana thing, I bet no insurance company in the country would be willing to cover her. What a liability! Every week she's shot (and walking around by ep's end just fine) or kicked by a horse, or tossed off a bridge...then at ep's end she shows up at the barn where Clark is debating jerking off and gets all mopey eyed with her "I can only do one emotion. And if we end up together I want you to know I am half Chinese so therefore I will never grow tits."
Then Clark continues to be sad, and Lana leaves to repeat the process the next week. Fucking bitch. I'm glad that one note actress left the show.

    Chloe last year

    by david cloverfield

was good with the torn loyalties and Brainiac stuff. She was forced to kill a bunch of people since the series began. They should use that to take her to a darker place. Frankly I woul like her to slowly become a kind of enemy of Clark - a top agent of Checkmate or something like that. A monster Clark created.

I wish they had kept the original S7 ending

    by drsambeckett1984

When Clark flies out the top of the fortress with the S blazing on his chest, and Lex loses his memory, but they couldnt becuase Rosenbaum left the show.

Lex will be back at some point.

My only worry is now that they are bring Martha and Perry back, probably to give Clark his proper costume and let Perry become editor of the Daily Planet, that this all sounds like Series finale not season finale.

  • This way, if SMALLVILLE doesn't get picked up for Season 10 for some insane reason, they can give the series an ending without major rewrites. If it does get picked up, then they can potentially throw in a last-minute cliffhanger or just start a new storyline when Season 10 begins.

    Skip seasons 4 + 6

    by drsambeckett1984

And all is happy, cos they were god awful, as was a good portion of season 7, but that was saved by the continuity hugging Veritas storyline.

Season 8 never really lived up to the Doomsday expectation, but Davis Bloome was a cool character, and I suspect Doomsday will be back at some point.

I cannot wait to see what variation of the Superman suit Clark will eventually there. The only reason they said "no flights, no tights" was because they didnt want to confuse the continuity with any Superman movie. But considering that franchise has been shelved, and Smallville seemes to live in its own seperate universe, they can surely do whatever they want now.

I dont think this writing team will have forgotten about their own Black Canary, the old team is another matter entirely.

    Maybe she is the Huntress?

But judging from the poster, it looks like all we're going to see in the show is Hawkman, Stargirl & Dr. Fate.

And for extra Supermany allusions, Adam Baldwin (Casey) was the voice of Supes in one of those dreadful direct-to-videos.

Chloe could become part of the comics continuity...

    by prof. pop-cult

A version of the character has already appeared in one of the Supes books. I would surmise it's not impossible that DC Comics may officially enter her into the comics continuity. It wouldn't be unprecedented -- Harley Quinn started out in Batman: The Animated Series, and she is now part of the Batman comics continuity. (And wasn't Mr. Freeze originally invented for the cheesy live-action Batman series?)

  • This leaves the Smallville creators to do what-ever the heck they want with the character till he becomes Superman. Let him fly already dammit. Kara came 2 or 3 years ago and she was flying, c'mon clark get it together.

I was a fan of Smallville specifically because they had the "No Tights, No Flights" rule. (Yeah, I know I'm in the minority.) The promo image looks like a Wizard Magazine Halloween Costume Contest. I miss their crazy captions already.

Gotham Central. It could be so awesome, and costs wouldn't be too high. Someone make it happen. It would be the first cop show I'd ever watch.
