...but will he finally don the blue tights?
-
Bah, shite
-
Smallville has gone from a show I watched largely out of habit to, over the past couple of seasons, one I look forward to each week.
-
in other words its a 2 part episode edited together. but its funny how they went this long not wanting to use actual costumes but now its all good.
-
have anything to do with the other Alex Ross book called "Kingdom Come?" Also, Bouny, I think the shift has to do with new showrunners who came in 2 (?) seasons ago.

Something tells me this could be the only great scene in the who
by ryanbraun14
if thats the case, then something tells me that you haven't been watching this season which is full of ICONIC superman scenes... although, you've said you don't watch it, so that 'something that tells me' was you...
-
yes, its the REAL 'sequel' i guess, of Kingdom come, and its AWESOME. They did a PATHETIC 'sequel' called 'The Kingdom' and it sucked on so many levels... Thy Kingdom Come (which is only the first half of the story arc) is with Alex Ross again, and in some issues the art is just as good as kingdom come.
-

its funny how they went this long not wanting to use actual cost
by ryanbraun14
the reason its funny is because the old showrunners were awful, and it appeared like they were TRYING to keep the show from being as cool as it could be, and is now--after the new guys took over...
-
It does. That Superman on the cover is the same Superman at the center of Mark Waid's original Kingdom Come. He was sucked into the main DC Universe.
-
I doubt that will be the only worthwhile scene. I have a feeling a lot of effort was put into those 2 episodes and I think it'll be top-notch. Weren't the episodes written by Geoff Johns? He wrote "Legion", which was excellent. I also thought they did a good job with the Justice League episode.
-
...if all those characters were regulars.
-
has been the best ever! And that is due to the new showrunners actually embracing the DC Universe!(What a concept!) They're not emabarassed by the source material like so many Hollywood directors, producers, etc. who make these projects. Hope these guys & Welling can produce spin-off tv series as well, like JSA, GREEN ARROW & maybe even SUPERMAN himself - on either tv or film!
-
Ever since the FINALLY got rid of Lana, it's been Superman, not Smallville. Yea, alot of liberties have been taken (Doomsday, Zod) but overall it's been very entertaining. Looking forward to this
-
I'm sure they got Lex too but are keeping it a secret. This JSA movie is going be insane, I read this is where Clark gets the idea for the real superman costume.
-
the way they handled doomsday wasn't as much as a liberty--doomsday emerges from being buried in the comics, smallville only changed the way he was buried. If God decides to take an interest in Smallville, the show would continue as a real superman show, and a few years into that show, doomsday would re-emerge and kill superman, then they would introduce the replacement supermans, they might keep steel, but superboy could be kept, and introduced into the teen titans, and then there would be a teen titans show, and after a couple years of that, they'd be the titans. really, though, i think for a new superhero show, NIGHTWING would have HUGE potential: you can ALLUDE to the fact that he was raised by batman and was robin. nightwing would be a great character for the show, because of how he was raised and the constant internal struggle of his is how he doesn't want to become as untrusting and as obsessive about being a vigilante as batman, against his young adult personality who doesn't know if he does or doesn't need friends and people he can trust completely
-
I never read superhero comics. (Something about not know where to start). But I read Sandman because it was in easy to collect TPB form. What's this about Sandman? Someone please explain to me.
-
If you look at your early issues of Neil Gaiman's Sandman you'll discover the Endless' Sandman inspired (via dreams) the Sandman who served with the Justice Society.
-
I followed this show as a guilty pleasure since season 1. I likened it to a train wreck. "Hm. Maybe the next car (episode) will be better. No. No, this is shitty, too. Maybe the next one? No, I'll keep moving along and maybe they will be better..."
I suffered through all of boring, mopey eyed Kristin Kreuk, who sucked the life out of every scene with her GRAVITAS. I suffered through witch Lana, the trip to China that farmboy Clark happens to show up in and nobody bats an eye, really bad wire fu...on an on.
And every week, I vowed never to come back.
NOw, with Millar and Gough gone, I can't wait for each new ep! Thanks for bailing, you Poozers. You guys sucked! Now we have finally been getting to people who enjoy the DC canon. -
I wish they would get Clark out of that dorky Batman wannabe outfit. jaysin420 I hope you are right that this EP will inspire him to get his real costume. I also hope whoever is holding the rights or whatever legal mumbo gumbo is keeping them from putting him in the costume is settled. We want Suprerman!
-
...like, the end of season four I think (maybe five). Then I gave up on it. I can't believe it's still on, to be honest. Regarding all this two episodes edited together talk: I thought there was previous news that this was actually shot as a tv movie, and that they moved it, or held it, until the end of this season (series). Herc? Is the series over? Morphing into something else? Do you know if this was shot as a tv movie, or just a couple eps that they decided to edit into one?
-
Or anybody who can answer them. I just realized I buried them in a box like Ryan Reynolds and you'd probably never see them.
-
I've been watching the show from the start and have stuck with it even though seasons 6 and 7 were dreadful. I didn't like season 8 that much either, but it was an improvement on the last few seasons.
This season so far has been really good so far. Heven't enjoyed the show this much since season 3. -
Couldn't agree more about Nightwing. Start it off the same way as a Knight in Bludhaven did and you have a series. Hell, you could even get a Bruce Wayne/Batman cameo if WB is smart about it.
-
Smallville continues at least until May. CW likely won't announce until May if it'll be back next fall or not.
-
He just destroys all enjoyment of the show for me.
-
Seriously, those self centered assholes are really cramping my Saturday night. First 9/11, and now this. Smallvile just cannot catch a fucking break. "My home is shakey", "A plane hit my work". This is why I hate the fucking media. SMALLVILLE IS ON YOU ASSHOLES. Nobody gives a crap about any of that other shit. Just let me watch my shows!!!
-
His character may be the absolute biggest misfire of the series. Give him some damn facial hair.
-
Smallville has not fallen hard enough to go to CW Saturdays... Along with Everwood, Dawson, Gilmore, and countless others so CMM could continue to kickass (sarcasm, really!?!?!?!)
-
watched the first 6 and a half seasons... before i finally gave up on it.. this kinda makes me want to give it another go
-
http://www.cinemaspy.com/article.php?id=3873 according to this report.
-
..I hope it morphs into something else resembling JSA, or any other group of heroes. Would love to see that attempted on live action tv. Even if it's the alternate Smallville Universe (which is how I have to look at the world of that show).
-
Because I'm pretty sure I had no clue that Green Arrow (my second favorite super hero after Batman) was even on the show. Interesting.

If Geoff Johns' JSA two-parter is as good as his Legion episode.
by spyguy
...this is going to be a fun little TV movie. And with Erica Durance's Lois Lane donning pseudo-Wonder Woman gear in a second Zatanna episode, SMALLVILLE is just full of win in 2010.
-
actually, Smallville's GA is very consistent with Ollie, early in his career. Even down to the facial hair, but they decided against the Robin Hood cap and red gloves.
-
Is what is appearing in Smallville the 50s Sandman or the 90s Gaiman Sandman?
-
What? Man, I guess I will have to start watching this show again. Might even have to do some catching up.
-
The only thing that piqued my interest is they went back on location finally and showed the farm. Too much crap going on nowadays with lackluster characters amidst cheap looking sets and awful lighting. I don't give a shit how many comic characters they attempt to cram in there, they'll never match the quality of Jonathan and Lionel. The show back then, while being held down with more melodrama than it needed, was much more genuine than this last ditch effort to pull support for the franchise given it appears it's the only thing Superman related WB has. If there's a season ten, they really need to scale back. GET RID OF OLLIE, use Mack on a limited basis, and take more of an effort to stay focus rather than the scatterbrained fanboy crap we've been getting. I'd like to have actual characters again.
-

-
Get with it WB/CW! I put the first three season six dvds in my queue. See if I can get into it or not.
-
is more in line w/his early days...except for those damn sunglasses! I hope the JSA helps to finally inspire Ollie to start wearing a real mask!
-
I think that's the one where Lana married Lex. Kreuk was fucking horrible trying to play big girl.
-
I'm sure I could skip it and not be missing too much. When should I start? I'm mostly interested in the Green Arrow/others appearances in the show. They lost me with season after season of the Clark, Lana, Chloe, Lex soap opera bs. I'm also bummed that Annette O'Toole isn't on the show anymore. But I can live with that I guess.
-
Between Matt Bomer (potential Superman), Brandon Rougth (last Superman), Jordana Brewster (SHOULD have been Lois Lane by now), and Kruek herself all being ally/rivals/opponents to Chuck, it's a given that Welling will eventually be on there too right? I'm okay with this season, but the Doomsday fight last season was the biggest let down since Heroes' season 1 finale. And Clark in fucking black is so damned 90s, it makes me sick they've done something so predictable and so uninspired.

Jaka, start with S8. That's where I started a month ago.
by flickchick85
I stopped watching the show in S3 because it was just horrid, but I heard about the new showrunners who took over in S8 and supposedly made it into more of an actual Superman show, and for the most part, I was pleasantly surprised. S8 has PLENTY of misfires, and it's still more of a guilty pleasure type of show than what I usually go for, but it's definitely embraced it's comic book side and dropped the whole teen angst angle that killed it for me in the beginning. I actually enjoy some of the characters now. And aside from the finale, I actually liked the way they handled the whole Doomsday storyline, as a kind of prequel to his storyline from the comics. But the talkbackers are right: the current season (S9) is EASILY the best they've had so far. S8 was more of a step in the right direction than anything else.
-
Smallville is such a cock tease. LETS FUCK ALREADY
-
I have a feeling the execs at CW got pissed at Welling for making them pay him a boatload of cash for a new season of Smallville...
-
would be good enough for me.
It should do well in the ratings if the WB promotes it properly. -
Let's never mention Lana Lang again please. And Durance is the best Lois ever.
-
people not knowledgeable about the old comics will think this episode is ripping off Watchmen.
-
the one where they first introduced Ollie Queen? That's good enough for me.
Anyway, after they FINALLY got rid of Mary Sue....I mean, Lana Lang, this show has been firing on all cylinders. Can't wait for the JSA! -
I do wish they had killed her. As much grief as that character put viewers thru, they really should have done a "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" type ending. I think that would have made everything ok with the Superman hardcore geeks whom the show has pissed off over the years. If you don't know what that is, Google it, it's an amusing theory.
-
Whenever you have a group of actors dressed in those costumes trying to act "serious"...it's priceless entertainment!
-
I don't remember when Black Canary guested starred a few seasons ago if it was explained her mother was the first Black Canary. Does anyone remember? Or is it the writers forgetting that Black Canary is part of Clark's circle of "super friends."
-
are a tease, I'm hooked to view. Trust in Johns. He gets superhero drama and humor more than almost any other writer. And he believes in heroes, making him, well, the polar opposite of cynical Millar (whose FF can't compare to Waid run or even short JMS run).
-
Wait, I have no friends.
-
so I can watch this episode.
-
and four inch cock.
-
I'll keep everything you guys have said in mind, especially if it's just painfully horrible for me. I can always skip ahead to season 8 if that's the case.
-
i've never hated on Smallville. early on, the show was good. but in recent years it has become great. the addition of dc continuity from most of the major areas of the dcu has been fantastic.
-
Granted, I'm basing my Green Arrow knowledge on the graphic novels, starting with Year One and then Quiver up till now, and I think the smallville green arrow is SPOT ON... especially the conflict between the Ollie's set of believes, morals and values and those of Clark... And i LOVE the new look of the show, style was. If you're one of those people who thinks they know about superheroes yet hasn't read many comics, then i could see why this season might seem underwhelming. While lex and lionel were the best actors on the show, you can only have so much lex, and since lex leaving, the show has moved FOWARD... if you're saying the show suffers because of the loss of those two characters, then you liked smallville for all the reasons i watched it and saw nothing but missed opportunities... heroes became terrible and it was so frustrating to see that happen because they could have ripped off superhero gold from comics yet the prestensious douchebag tim kring decided he is too good for superheroes but thinks he can keep credibility and self-respect by BLATANTLY ripping off The Fly, because that's more high-brow, yet the average heroes viewer would be FAR more likely to see the fly ripoff than seeing a comic book rip off.
-
yeah, its two episodes one after another, technically not a movie, but i don't blame them one bit--it WILL get people to give the show a chance after bailing on it. They hear 'tv movie' which implies that it will be a self-contained story in the smallville universe, so they won't think 'too bad i bailed on the show years ago so i won't be able to understand whats going on even though i really want to see how the justice society is used.' Its a marketing strategy and a good one at that--they WILL regain viewers, and the new showrunners deserve to get people to give it a second chance, and i think the tv movie idea will do just that.
-
Agreed, because I had that thought myself. But knowing that the show continues until May, but possibly not beyond then, won't necessarily keep me around for long. Have to see how the last couple seasons have been before I make that decision.
-
The Matt Wagner/Guy Davis SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE is the original Sandman in 1930s New York, and it's awesome. It's being collected now, and there are about 7 or 8 TPBs.
-
Just about every episode has been above average. Metallo, Ollie's fall from grace, Lois and Clark acting like Lois and friggin' Clark. Even the Wonder Twins seemed semi-cool this season. And Shermdawg, what happened to you? You used to be the show's biggest supporter when it sucked. Now you're pissed not every seen isn't in that goddamn barn? And the lighting adds more style and makes it more like an actual comic book. I do agree about Mack though. I've hated her since day one. She's like the dumb bitch at the party who calls you out for date raping her friend. What a priss.

Dude I was ready for this show to die on Friday nights...
by beefywhore
Then it had to go and get good this season...what the EFF???
-
If they blew that and Lex's study up, it'd be a good thing.
-
...I just don't like where they've taken her. Just like Lana, she should've died. And just like Lana, we wouldn't of had to sit through a year of a shitty relationship involving her.
-
Oh my, yes.
-
I think the creators dug themselves into a hole with Chloe. From the get go, Allison Mack made Chloe a vibrant, exciting character, contrary to Kreuk's Lana. Chloe wasn't even a part of the original comics. NOw, they have a character in which it seems the only thing they can do for the sake of Superman lore is to kill her off or send her to another dimension or something to keep with the comics.
And while I'm on the whole Lana thing, I bet no insurance company in the country would be willing to cover her. What a liability! Every week she's shot (and walking around by ep's end just fine) or kicked by a horse, or tossed off a bridge...then at ep's end she shows up at the barn where Clark is debating jerking off and gets all mopey eyed with her "I can only do one emotion. And if we end up together I want you to know I am half Chinese so therefore I will never grow tits."
Then Clark continues to be sad, and Lana leaves to repeat the process the next week. Fucking bitch. I'm glad that one note actress left the show. -
Martha is coming back, she will bring Clark a new more colourful costume. Guranteed!
-
was good with the torn loyalties and Brainiac stuff. She was forced to kill a bunch of people since the series began. They should use that to take her to a darker place. Frankly I woul like her to slowly become a kind of enemy of Clark - a top agent of Checkmate or something like that. A monster Clark created.
-
I have heard about those and I'll give them a shot eventually.
-
When Clark flies out the top of the fortress with the S blazing on his chest, and Lex loses his memory, but they couldnt becuase Rosenbaum left the show.
Lex will be back at some point.
My only worry is now that they are bring Martha and Perry back, probably to give Clark his proper costume and let Perry become editor of the Daily Planet, that this all sounds like Series finale not season finale. -
This way, if SMALLVILLE doesn't get picked up for Season 10 for some insane reason, they can give the series an ending without major rewrites. If it does get picked up, then they can potentially throw in a last-minute cliffhanger or just start a new storyline when Season 10 begins.
-
And all is happy, cos they were god awful, as was a good portion of season 7, but that was saved by the continuity hugging Veritas storyline.
Season 8 never really lived up to the Doomsday expectation, but Davis Bloome was a cool character, and I suspect Doomsday will be back at some point.
I cannot wait to see what variation of the Superman suit Clark will eventually there. The only reason they said "no flights, no tights" was because they didnt want to confuse the continuity with any Superman movie. But considering that franchise has been shelved, and Smallville seemes to live in its own seperate universe, they can surely do whatever they want now. -
You rule, dude!!!!!
-
You rule, dude!!!!!
-
I dont think this writing team will have forgotten about their own Black Canary, the old team is another matter entirely.
Maybe she is the Huntress? -
But judging from the poster, it looks like all we're going to see in the show is Hawkman, Stargirl & Dr. Fate.

Working too much. Gotta pay off those student loans, baby! Speaking of which, I have an awesome porcelain statue of Silver Age Batman up for auction... http://tinyurl.com/y89vzvs

I'd rather see shows called "Crisis" and "Darkknight"...
by mrmysteryguest
if you know what I mean. ;)
-
And for extra Supermany allusions, Adam Baldwin (Casey) was the voice of Supes in one of those dreadful direct-to-videos.
-
A version of the character has already appeared in one of the Supes books. I would surmise it's not impossible that DC Comics may officially enter her into the comics continuity. It wouldn't be unprecedented -- Harley Quinn started out in Batman: The Animated Series, and she is now part of the Batman comics continuity. (And wasn't Mr. Freeze originally invented for the cheesy live-action Batman series?)
-
This leaves the Smallville creators to do what-ever the heck they want with the character till he becomes Superman. Let him fly already dammit. Kara came 2 or 3 years ago and she was flying, c'mon clark get it together.
-
I was a fan of Smallville specifically because they had the "No Tights, No Flights" rule. (Yeah, I know I'm in the minority.) The promo image looks like a Wizard Magazine Halloween Costume Contest. I miss their crazy captions already.
-
Have it set in WW II. Would love to see that.
-
Just wanted more JSA members to show up like Flash, Green Lantern, and Wildcat.
-
Gotham Central. It could be so awesome, and costs wouldn't be too high. Someone make it happen. It would be the first cop show I'd ever watch.
