Sorry for the anti-zombie brigade these days, as far as I'm concerned more zombies are a good thing. Plus Walking Dead is awesome. I just wished they'd also carry on with Babylon Fields or whatever the he'll that was called. Ray Stevenson in a zombie show fucking ruled. Who was the dink who said "no" to a series???!!! Wanker.

...and appreciate what a great fucking time in history it is to be a geek. Jesus Henry Christ. The Hulk, Iron Man, Batman, Spider-Man and the X-Men in decent-to-great silver screen outings. Green Lantern, more Spider-Man, Thor, and a ton more on the way. Walking Dead coming to TV, and in the hands of no less than Frank Darabont. 15 years ago, what did we have? Batman and Robin, shitty Captain America, and some cartoons. Seriously, anyone who reads AICN and is in high school right now, you had better fucking appreciate how good you've got it growing up in a time when geek is mainstream.

  • But nothing on the order of mass zombie killings. So there's really no telling how balls-to-the-wall AMC will make this. Even if it isn't outrageously violent, I think it will work well. Just look at "Dexter" on CBS. They edited it, and it still was very good.

The Walking Dead series is fucking terrific...

    by nasty in the pasty

...but I too worry that the gore will be heavilly truncated on AMC. This should have been an HBO series. Then again, this will suffer from the same problem that Lost did...seeing as a seven-year-old boy is a main character, and the series has so far taken place in less than a year, whatever kid they pick will "grow out" of his role but quick (which is why the Lost writers had to write out Waaaaaaaaaalllllttttttt after the first season). Still, Darabont and zombies...pretty awesome combination. I just wonder if they'll have the totally fucked-up scene where (***SPOILERS***) the mother holding the newborn baby gets a shotgun blast in the back. That was one of the most horrific splash panels I've ever seen in a comic.

Then again... Shawshank and Green Mile were both very good. He needs a good film to rebound; and I hope he shit-cans all of those "great techniques" he learned shooting that episode of "The Shield". His old style of shooting didn't need any help.

I'm not that farmiliar with the comic, but the idea of a zombie TV show by Frank Darabontis awesome, as long as they let it be it's own thing. A TV show has it's own special kind of rhythm, and a comic has a different rhythm. They don't need to follow the comic too closely with this. They should adjust the time frames and stories as much as needed to make it work as a TV series.

checked out a comic shop recently, and was blown away by the prices. I am 31, so not that old (well thats how I like to think) but these days, very very expensive some of them, even including TPB.
I haven't collected single issues for about 6 years, but do enjoy picking up a few TPBs.

    by darkartist

Charlie Brooker's zombie miniseries had its share of flaws but overall it was intense and gory as fuck. The ultimate demise of that slimy producer during the finale nearly made me puke. The wet, shredding flesh sound effects and the sight of his ribcage being yanked off his torso might be the most cringe-worthy thing I've ever seen in a program created for television. WALKING DEAD has got to show the same kind of balls when it comes to the horror element or I'm gonna be plenty disappointed no matter how well the writing or direction is

Let's see: AMC who produces two of the best shows on TV, Darabont who directed one of my favorite movies of all time and excellent original source material.

Since AMC (and FX, etc.) operate outside of the networks, I guess they can be as explicit with violence/language as they want[?] I mean, they're pay channels so not broadcast OTA - I'm not sure what regulations are in place (I suspect it's just a loose agreement not to show T&A). Whoever mentioned CSI, is right, that's as graphic as stuff shown on HBO/SHO.

I absolutely love anything Charlie Brooker does and Dead Set was badass from top to bottom. I hate, hate, hate reality shows that focus on vapid cunts like Survivor & Big Brother, so I was over the moon to see a zombie story that took place on one of those sets. It was very satisfying to watch the housemates be reduced to simpering cowards before being mauled and consumed by ravenous undead hordes. Kevin Eldon was awesome too

I'm an adult with a mid-pay job and I still can't afford to keep up with all of the titles I want to. My library is a joke, too, so no love there. They have ZERO comics/graphic novels. I prefer TPB format because they're easier to keep nice when carrying them around, but with how much they cost it's a hefty investment just to check a particular title out.
Oh, and I have one comic book store in my area. You know what their hours are? Neither does anyone else. It's kind of a community joke that if you ever happen past Unicorn when their "open" sign is out, your next stop should be to a convenience store to buy a lottery ticket :)

They could've easily signed this to HBO or Showtime at that and hard it done right, it doesn't even phase me anymore that Darabont is attached to this because it's going to be fucked up anyways. I am also gay for the comic but you must keep in mind it a different medium. There will be changes. If you say it’s not as good as the book you are a douche that needs to throw out your TV and move in to a library. Nothing as good as the book. You don’t have a budget in the book fool. Get over it. This has a chance to be ground breaking as a form of art unto itself. I hope they do a good job with it.

Darabont can. And they could get some name actors in the cast since they won't have multi year commitments. They're always gaining and losing characters. For people who haven't already read the books it will be genuinely shocking when some of those characters leave the show. I'm excited about this one.

I've accepted that book to film adaptations will be different, I personally am not worried about changes and such, more as I'm worried about what AMC will allow, I mean the stories involve a lot of deep and dark things, lots of rape and killing, honestly, when you think of AMC can you really say, "I could see a Walking Dead series on there"? It's just what they're ALLOWED to bring to the table, i'll try and remain hopeful, hell I liked the Watchmen movie, its just with AMC, limits limits limits.
