CONAN Brings Will Ferrell & Tom Hanks Back For Friday!!
I am – Hercules!!
With this week likely to be the last for “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien,” the show’s first two guests now look to be its last.
Will Ferrell, who appeared on Conan’s first “Tonight,” and Tom Hanks, who appeared on the second episode, are booked for the Friday (and likely final) edition. Neither actor has a new movie to promote.
Norm Macdonald made a surprise appearance on Tuesday’s show, alongside previously announced Quentin Tarantino (who proposed to O’Brien the creation of “Late Shift II: Rolling Thunder Revenge”) and Paul Bettany (“Legion”).
Wednesday brings Adam Sandler (also with no new movie), Joel McHale and Joss Stone.
Thursday has booked Robin Williams (who has no movie out this year) and Barry Manilow.

New show show?

Take a fucking hike you unfunny hack!! You, and Jeff 'Mother Fucker" Zucker, ruined the Tonight Show. I hope you two both enjoy sixty nineing each other for many years to come. TEAM COCO!!

While it's true it's very hard to feel bad for a couple of millionaire
comics in this economy and with everything else happening in the world, I'm gonna miss Conan.
The irony is, the attitude he's developed the last 2 weeks,he's never been funnier. One big turn off for me was when he moved to the earlier time slot you could tell he was being watered down a bit, and honestly less funny than he was at 12:30.
Now all I have to watch when I get home from work ( I normally work 10 am to 10 pm) will be The Daily Show, and now maybe Letterman again.
Fuck Leno and NBC. I don't buy his
nice guy routine he pulled the other night, with his talk of " I'm under contract and if I walked away there's 175 staffers to consider".Bullshit.He didn't give a fuck about those staffers during the writer's strike. Not till Dave and Conan started paying their guys out of pocket. -
seriously. I never watched Leno anyway, but now I really hope that Conan's next project is awesome. I say fuck the talk shows, let him do a Curb Your Enthusiasm type show, it will go platinum.
-
... as has been suggested here a couple times, get himself an internet set-up to begin with. No censors, no timeslots, and heaven for any company wanting to sponsor his show as they get front row advertising for the most important demographic out there: 18-29 (fuck 18-49, 18-29 is where the money is really at).
-
NBC still loses an Olympics, 30 Rock, Parks & Recreation, Office & Chuck viewer if they choose to lock up Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, In the Year 3000, Pimpbot, Masturbating Bear, Andy's Sister, the Walker Texas Ranger Lever etc. just to spite Conan & Co.
-
"I'm making fun of Jay Leno, because I'm having a lot of fun doing it. It's just fun" Letterman is the man.

When did this name start and why? I know its for COnan COnan, but never heard of it until this war started? I've always been a Leno fan as well as Kimmel, Conan, Ferguson. I usually watch at least parts of all 4. Never liked Letterman though. I will watch Leno at 11:35 again because hes funny. Every person has theyre likes and dislikes for each late night host. I hate what NBC is doing obviously, and I guess we'll all have to wait and see what happens in ratings now. If Leno stays #1 again it would be funny for all the boycotting that is going on by everyone but like Michael Bay movies people still watch it, despite ridicule.

It's nice to know that Leno can rely on that.
Fuck it. I'll watch Leno too. It's a "popcorn" show - I can just turn off my brain and half-grin at references to things I heard other, smarter people talk about at work today.
What's this gray stuff leaking out of my ear? -

Watch Letterman again? I sure as hell won't watch Big Jaw.

throw him in there!

If half the people who purport to love Conan actually watched his Tonight Show, none of this would have gone down. Leno isn't funny but Conan Obrien is so overrated by the stupids that it's funny. He's nowhere as funny satirical as Colbert, nowhere as cutting edge as 80s Letterman and nowhere in the ballpark of Carson in terms of monologue or interview. Look at torch-carrying mob of 95 IQ Americans throwing stones at the 90 IQ Americans for watching Leno instead of Conan. Newsflash, if you're the type of person to assume you're smarter than average for "preferring" Conan to Leno... IN BOLD LETTERS... you ARE the very definition of average. Neither is rocket science and taste doesn't dictate intellect. If you were noticeably smarter than average you'd probably on your Kindle than watching people plug their movies at 11:35
-
I'd also force a masturbating bear on the final show.
-
Should be good....even though it won't be out for a year....
-
So sorry about your brain. HB.
-
Conan is actually incredibly intelligent (high school valedictorian, Harvard grad Magna Cum Laude) and incredibly witty (editor/writer of Harvard Lamoon, writer of SNL/Simpsons), and you'd have to be an absolute moron not to think any of that rubs off on his late night show (it clearly does).
-
and I am a huge Conan Fan, but his humor does trend toward the absurd and arbitrary (as he has referenced himself with gorilla nurse and cactus chef). If you want satire, like Happy Boy apparently does, then Conan is not your guy. Conan is more in the vein of Monty Python, which is very funny, but does not require the highest intelligence to appreciate.

by tomonicker
It's already been pointed out ad nausim that Conan's ratings were down from his old gig, Jay's were down (or flat considering who's talking) and the absolute fact that NBC orchestrated a wonderfully entertaining cock-up. Still, Conan got screwed, and dammit, some of us who didn't dig the Tonight Show, or any of the late nighters much anymore, still have admiration and fondness for the CoCo. What's hypocritical about that? Frankly, I was a Dave fan originally, watched Carson by default, but I moved with the times and my own changing tastes. Truly, Jon & Stephen got dibs over Conan these days, but they aren't doing the Tonight Show, and I don't have time to (and shouldn't) watch every damn thing. I tuned into Conan when he had guest or group I wanted to see, and that's that. Now, if Conan can get a gig where he can stretch himself, instead of being contained and constrained, I think he'll bounce back quite nicely. Ultimately, Jay is getting crucified for a pattern of two-faced insincerity, bit stealing, and being twice the cock-blocking douche instead of his "hypocritical" nice guy facade. I'm sure Jay will do okay with his core following. I don't care because I won't be watching TonightShowJay2.0 at all. And you know what? Doritos have sucked since the late 80's and 90's- they are too manufactured/refined these days; you kids have it so much softer and easier these days! ;-P
-
a week of it has been more than enough; it's getting tedious. Conan will get his severance and a new gig, MachiaLeno will get the show back, and Letterman will have released many years of pent up frustration. Anybody not named Leno or Zucker will probably be alright after this fiasco.
-
Piece of shit talkback. No edit function. Subject blank longer than what's postable. Durh.
-
How does Conan get repaid for his company loyalty? The biggest, most public act of Hollywood treachery in memory.
If it were really so simple as Jay Leno changing his mind, I can't see how Leno can still be lauded for being nothing more than a shill while Conan is derided for a lack of loyalty to NBC. It's pretty clear now what Conan's loyalty has gotten him.
NBC and Leno shouldn't be allowed to rewrite history! I found a good article that shows a time line and documents Leno's deceit:
http://tinyurl.com/yzunsf3 -
it kind of shoots itself in the foot with it's nutty extremist hyperbole, maybe if they'd just laid the facts bare instead of piling on the crazy...
-
I don't condone taking a man's life, but honestly all it would take is one of you wack jobs to sit outside NBC studios with a sniper rifle and all of this would be solved. NBC would have to leave CoCo as the host and at 11:35 and Leno wouldn't be able to bug anyone or ruin TV anymore, hell NBC could maybe even air a memorial service for Leno, more people would tune into that then anything Leno did when aliveOh and in case anyone is actually considering doing it, maybe you could also slighty wound Kevin Eubanks, not enough to kill him but just enough to let him know we also don't like him much either
-
and loved it. However...this is quite possibly going to be remembered as the greatest piece of comic gold in late night HISTORY...the weirdness and controversy ALONE make for great material. I've been LOLing for the past week over this, and I can't WAIT to see each episode this week.
-
Turns out that the cause of death was Jay Leno. Is there nothing that man will stop at?
-
NBC should hold Conan to his contract- make him do Tonight at 1205,Conan doesn't like it tough...grow a pair and live with it
-
He basically shuddled through Friday Night Lights for renewal and hates NBC for chaining cunt Ben Silverman to him as his eventual successor, so I would think he would like to stick it to Zucker too.
-
If he accepted the 12:05 gig, he would be fucking over Jimmy Fallon and the late night show, and CoCO having hosted that show for 17 years knows how hard it is to hold an audience from 12:30 to 1:30 and he doesn't want to fuck over his old show like that, plus Conana knows that Leno retired, he stepped down as the tonight show host and paved the way for conana to take his palce, now since Leno is a douche he wants his old job back and is trying to fuck over o'brien. Conana is doing the right thing by putting his foot down
-

All along Herc has been posting the low ratings for Jay Leno's shows, and I was in talkback saying, "Does anyone watch Conan anymore?" and nobody even bothered to answer. Now everyone's crazy for Conan, to which I ask "Why weren't you watching to begin with!!"
-
In his last Late Night show Conan set Ade free in the wild. It would be hilarious if in the final episode Conan bows and leaves the studio only to find Abe waiting with open arms outside to embrace him.
-
I know we don't matter THAT much, but seriously, spread the word. Do not let Jay Leno get back to his comfy five million viewers. Its not easy since people just turn the tonight show as they sleep no matter what, but seriously, we need to boycott leno at least a bit. Keep him behind letterman at the very least. Make sure NBC knows they fucked up.
-
is that as much as we all will not watch him, middle America Love Leno's inoffensive brand of non threatening humor. True they didn't watch him at 10 but that was because of the competition, however at 11:30 it's either Letterman (who alot of stuck up american's don't "get") or Safe as apple pie Jay leno with his "hillarious" bits like Jaywalking or giant head tough guy jay. Middle america is so stupid, all they do is read newspapers so when jay says "did you hear this one" they can look at the TV and say "yes i did hear, now give it a good ribbing jay". NBC had a chance to make the tonight show hip again when they gave it to conan, but instead they would rather go back to the safe 40-50 year old that think Jay Leno is funny, as much as i'll miss conan, he really does need to hit up comedy central (imagine Steven Colbert taking over the Daily show when stewert leaves followed at 11:30 buy the conan o'brien show)
-
I prefer Conan to Jay by far, but don't really watch late night tv...some people do work afterall. I will say this though. Jay really has an uphill battle in getting ratings back. He pissed off a lot of people in how this whole thing went down (regardless of whether its his or the NBC execs fault). I think he lost a lot of viewers and it will take awhile to get them back. I think Conan has gotten a lot of new found support from viewers and Hollywood'ites, so once he gets his new who running on Fox(probably), you can be assured he will have a strong entry base. I think Jay unknowingly cut off his nose to spite his face.
-
You've got the wrong idea about the Colbert Report. It's not just an identical format show that comes on after John Stewart, no. It's an in-character satire of cable news pundits. These are the oranges to NBC's apples.
-
Does Conan still do that bit?
That was the first time I saw Amy Pohler and she was hilarious. -
but what i am saying is that, once Stewart steps down as Daily show host, the most likley replacment will be steven colbert, which means the end of the colbert report, what comedy central should do is (once stewart retires) give the daily show to steven colbert, then give conan his own show in the 11:30 to 12:30 time slot, not only would o'briend get his talk show back, but he'd have a 5 minute lead over leno/letterman and he'd have a litle more freedom with comedy central over NBCThe fact is that Leno pissed off alot of celebrities and conan got alot of celeb support, whatever show he winds up doing, it won't be difficult to find guests, leno on the other hand is really going to lose some guests over this (although i can see alot of studios and neworks pressuring celebs to appear on the tonight show with leno just to promote a movie or TV show)I've been in hollywood for a long time, fueds like this happen alot more then someone not in the biz understands, hell i've been in meetings with celebs and execs that have gotten downright ugly
-
I hope that the Masturbating Bear and Vomit Kermit, make one last appearance.
-
Where do you hear that Conan and Letterman were paying their guys during the strike (and that Jay wasn't)?
One of the few absolute great benefits of this situation is seeing Letterman holding court each night, ruminating on the situation and unloading two decades of animosity upon Leno. This is the sort of shit my 12-year-old self would have killed to hear.
I'm just glad Abe Vigoda isn't alive to see this. -
Unless I missed something, he somehow managed to escape the reaper that swept thru Hollywood last year.
-
reasoning on this. I personally prefer Jon Stewart to any of these guys, but my understanding is that Leno pulls a significantly older demographic than Conan. Case in point, when I visit my parents, they watch Leno while I often sit there stone faced. His stuff has no edge... none of the cleverness of Conan, Stewart or even Maher (although Maher does his shtick once a week, so his guys have more material and more time to write it, but you get my point).
So to me, the smart choice is to keep Conan and grab the younger demo. I remember when he took over from Letterman where Conan was totally unproven and many industry people were predicting disaster. But after a slow start, he made Late Night a hit.
Networks seem to be doing the same thing with national news coverage... they are satisfied watching rating slide as younger people go to other media sources for their news and the older viewers die off - literally. I don't get it. Is it just lack of imagination on the networks' part? I'd love to hear the option of someone in the know. -

Leno crossed WGA lines because he's a SCAB DOUCHEBAG
by margot_tenenbaum
Conan paid his writers out of pocket until the strike was over.
Letterman's Worldwide Pants conceded to the demands of the union and negotiated a return to work. -
And it just gave me respect for how well Dave does the talking-to-audience pieces when he's got something to say. And while I don't really hate Leno and think this was an NBC fuck up more than Leno or Conan being bad/good guys, Leno retconned the hell out of his story.
-
Leno has a strategy.

Was in NY last month - wish I'd bought Conan stuff at NBC store
by jawsfan
Honestly, I've resented Leno ever since Helen Kushnick stole "The Tonight Show" for him. But Leno has taken it to a new low.
Everyone -- go to see Leno when he's back on "The Tonight Show". Get tickets. Go to the show. Sit there with arms folded and don't laugh. Stick out your tongue at him. Fall asleep during the taping. Yawn loudly. -
I'm with Coco!
-
may be the funniest thing I've ever seen. The ending was awesome. Dave was always gracious to Conan (even went on Late Night once or twice). I think it's safe to say that Late Show will be one of Conan's first stops post-Tonight Show.
-
No, you really don't get it. Either you don't watch Colbert, or you are amazingly broad in your comparisons. The Tonight show and Late night are the same talk/variety format that's been around for half a century. The Daily Show is a straight comedy take on the news and politics. The Colbert Report is a satire of conservative pundit shows. Maybe you get caught up on the "desk in front of audience" "buy this guy's book" conventions, but that's about it. I do not think that Stephen Colbert would "take over" the daily show. The time slot might move up but the format would not change.
-
are you trying to make some sort of point with that
-
"Hey Scoey, that shirt makes you look like a homosexual."
Ms. Tenenbaum, I'm not questioning it, but where did you hear that Conan was paying his writers? It's a feel-good tale. -
means they are there to show support and not shill something.
-
For those old enough to remember, the basic facts are that Leno (and/or his manager) screwed Johnny Carson, David Letterman, and now Conan O'Brien.
While people can go overboard with the hate-filled hyperbole, Jay Leno has been a hack for 20 years and for how he has altered WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN...he should get hit by a truck.
Anyone who suggests Leno was 'better' because he had higher ratings...if you are too stupid to sense the stupidity of that argument...you probably watch Leno.
And if the same truck that I wish to hit Leno would take out JettL as collateral damage...I wouldn't cry. Conan has (for two more days) the Masturbating Bear...we're stuck with JettL the Masturbating Clown. -
to pay his staff during the writer's strike.
http://tv.ign.com/articles/838/838687p1.html -
Where is this "two more days" thing coming from? I count Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
-
Steven colbert has hosted the daily show in the past (when john was sick or had other) duties like award shows... why would colbert not take the job if offered, of course it wouldn't be the same as stwewarts show, but stewarts show was not the same has kilborns. man your a dumbskull
-
and so is a larger chunk of America....at least to those outside of the college dorm/frat scene(and those still trying to hang on to it) Conan isn't funny.... Leno IS a bit dated but overall its a better show to end the night ie fall asleep to, than Conan or Dave.....HOWEVER if you want actual HUMOR at night tune in to Craig Ferguson easily the best in Late night today.....
-
My mistake. I am currently in Asia and I'm 13 hours ahead. 3 more shows.
j2talk....I can't agree with you about Leno. Although you seem to have given him a big backhanded compliment (better to fall asleep to)....But I can agree with you about how good Craig Ferguson is. -
MAYBE CONAN CAN GET LATE NIGHT BACK IF JIMMY FALLON RETIRES HES ONLY 35
-
People have been writing and saying that Conan didn't get a fair chance since he had to have time to build an audience. What was he doing all those years on late, late night? The big difference between him taking over The Tonight Show and when Jay took it over was that Jay had no show before with a loyal audience. He had been a guest and guest host on TTS and Letterman but that's it. He had to build his audience from the ground up and he did and he beat Dave and continued to beat Dave until the day he left. Conan has been on tv many, many years and built up his audience, supposedly, so why would he need time to build a new one. If you were watching him then you would watch him now, wouldn't you. But you didn't. Somehow his audience he had then didn't follow him to The Tonight Show and he couldn't pick up Jay's old audience. He failed on two fronts. Now when Conan goes to FOX, whatever, you all are going to make him the biggest thing in tv history to get vindication. Oh but wait, he will be on at 11:30pm and you work or have homework or are doing something else. You still won't watch him and his ratings will be low and he will get beat by Jay. Spin it anyway you want it but it doesn't change the fact that Jay was #1 at 11:35pm and will be again. Jay has lost none of his audience during this because his audience didn't want to see him leave in the first place. They don't support Conan, they don't like Dave and they could care less about your interweb rants.
-
For the Fail!
Proving my point about anyone dumb enough to make the higher ratings = quality argument.
Gimp...you are correct in one sense. There are a lot of people jumping on the CoCo bandwagon who didn't actually watch him when they had a chance. But this really is more about the contempt a lot of people (the people I want to hang out with) feel for Jay Big Jaw Leno. -
...Conan should let the Masturbating Bear co-host the show on Friday.
-
Leno walked away from number one, gambled his status on prime time and LOST.
NBC then pissed away 17 years of developing Conan for yet another Jeff Zucker short-term fix.
Leno may get back to number one but can he maintain it for another decade or two as the Conan/Stewart/Colbert generation enter their middle age/senior years? -
His audience of old boring people will start watching "The Tonight Show" again and his ratings will rebound.
-
...to see if Jay suffers permanent damage from this or is one Tiger Woods interview away from us being back to 'normal' minus Conan.
-
...awhile without commenting. I broke the seal, tonight, so bear with my multiple posts.MovieGimp, I have to disagree with your other point as well. Jay did not have to build his audience 'from the ground up'.
He had a huge audience who had the Tonight Show as a part of their daily routine for most of their lives, already built in. All he had to do was not chase them away. And he did wean many viewers away from Letterman.
I don't want to turn this political. But Faux News and "Arrested Development" tell me most of what I need to know about quality and ratings. -
No Coco, no NBC'o...
-
my sources are saying that NBC/Universal shareholders are not happy with this whole situation or what its doing to the network, it's looking like Zucker might be forced to step down and take Leno with himSo it's possible that coco could be staying
-
Seriously... I understand why Conan cant just go back but still... The 'Tonight Show' franchise means nothing really and Conan was slightly funnier at 12:30...With that being said, the last week and a half of the Conan Tonight Show > the last DECADE and a half of the Leno Tonight Show!!!
-

by margot_tenenbaum
...why not put Dana Carvey as the Church Lady on at 11:30 PM every night to scold the Tiger Woods-of-the-day.
If Hugh Grant works once a decade, imagine how successful it will be every day! -
To all of you asking where all of us Conan supporters were, asking why he didn't have higher ratings - you do realize that unless we were Nielsen families, it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference, right?
-
Seriously, your bullshit was good for a laugh at one time, but now it's just tired and pathetic.
-
I'm sorry, dude, but it just doesn't. No way would Comedy Central end The Colbert Report just to give Stephen Jon's desk. They are two entirely separate shows, and separate brands. It doesn't matter than Colbert hosted TDS before, his own show has its own following and they have strongly cultivated the brand of humor for his program. It's built around the personality of Colbert's character. It's a totally separate money machine from the Daily Show. If Jon retired, why would they kill one just to give to the other when both bring in stron ratings? And to give Conan a one-hour show at 11:30? So he could have fewer viewers and make less money? And so Comedy Central could give its own flagship show a half hour to Conan's full hour?
Sorry, man. That just doesn't seem plausible in any way, shape or form. -
I just want to jump in and say to whoever keeps saying "why didn't all you people watch conan before this dur hur":
Most of Conan's audience is younger and probably made up of a lot of students who don't even own a TV, let alone a goddamn Nielsen box. I don't even live in the US, so my opinion likely counts for nothing, but I'd say a lot of people WERE watching Conan, but doing it online through hulu or wherever. NBC is extremely shortsighted if they think all this crap is going to lure in younger audiences with the cash. -
Jan 20, 2010 12:55:51 PM CST
I've watched Conan on TV like 4 times since the transition
by quin the eskimo
But I've probably watched every show on HULU, as a backdrop to whatever I'm doing. I'm the problem I guess.
-
so I've probably seen more Tonight Show w/ Conan on Hulu than anywhere else, but I've been watching it via broadcast for the last couple of weeks.
-
People in the industry are already predicting success at that combo. Conan seems to be a more natural fit with Fox anyway. It just bugs me that he won't be able to bash NBC like they deserve. But oh well.
-
You don't understand because you aren't familiar with the M.O. of the people who run the traditional networks. (Sorry, the restrictions of political correctness prevent me from naming this group outright.) It's the same as they've used in many other endeavors: gain complete control of a certain industry and milk it for every last dime until said industry becomes irrelevant, continue milking it until it's a dessicated corpse, then scam sell it for a profit or accept a "bailout" and get out, leaving the wreckage behind as you and your move on to greener pastures/other suckers.
-
Mostly, everybody else is making jokes but at least being somewhat classy about it. Or at least, they let the guests make the worst comments and the host tries to stay classy. But Letterman's just being mean.
Come to think of it, he hasn't actually told JOKES for many years now. Insulting people isn't the same as telling jokes.
But I digress... -
...but, of course, so is just about everyone on late night television. However, none of the rest are 62 yr old men screwing every 19 yr old college intern that seeks a job. I'm not sure, but I would prefer Conan and Jay to that unfunny, dirty old man. Be careful, Dave -- or you might have another heart attack.

Leno showing Chelsea Handler a motel bedroom and saying he got the idea from Letterman is Leno being classy? Really?
The difference is Dave's being FUNNY.
ccchhhrrriiisssm....Do you cash the checks form Sarah Palin? Get your facts right. He screwed co-workers, not 19 year old college interns...although that sounds good, too.

Sorry, I didn't mean to include Leno on a list of classy people.
by royston lodge
I sorta meant out of all the commentators who aren't directly connected to the situation, i.e. everybody who isn't Leno or Conan.
Ferguson, Fallon, Kimmel, Colbert, etc, etc... -
Dude, you're way off. I'm 40 and grew up with Letterman and Conan to some extent. Leno is fucking lame. None of my 40 year old friends watch him. His appeal is more like 55-80 year olds. Gen X'ers find Leno tame and uninspired. And I will NEVER watch The Tonight Show with Jay Lamo. Letterman has lost his edge, but he's still the best late night host since Johnny Carson.
-
Anything else goes. Including HILARIOUS double murder, crossing union lines and fucking an entire network for personal gain.
-
"I’m telling jokes and making fun of Jay Leno, over and over and over, relentlessly, mercilessly, simply for one reason. And that is, I’m really enjoying it. It’s….I don’t know…it’s just fun." David Letterman.
I think Dave has said remarkably little about how he (IMHO) got screwed over the last two decades. I am glad he has had this moment of vindication, where Leno has been exposed.Again. Leno screwed Carson. Leno screwed Letterman. Leno screwed Conan. How much of a pattern of behavior do people need? -
"I said I'll retire, to avoid what happened last time." Smirk.YOU CAUSED WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME YOU TALENTLESS FUCK.
-
I've been waiting almost 20 years to see Dave go off on Leno like this. It was worth the wait, and it's been a hell of a lot of fun. I hope he doesn't stop, even when Jay does get the show back.
-
Yeah, the idea that Leno is mining this for jokes really rubs me the wrong way. Even if he was, at most, passively responsible, it's a bit disingenuous.
And to the poster who said Letterman's being a jerk, well, shit, of course he is. With good cause. He's had 17 years to sit on this. Say a guy fucks your wife, then 17 years later fucks another guy's wife. The first wife's husband is allowed to be a bit of a prick about it later on down the line. -
Ripping on celebs left and right, sp those on E! like Seacrest and the Ass family, but how hard will he hit on NBC with his sitcom in the balance? Anybody see Leno's response on Monday, regarding the timeline of events, and how he was almost the unwilling pawn of the network (or "his bosses" as he called them)? Its called having a set of balls, and the only ones Leno has left are the the ones that are stuffing his mouth.
-
Guess what, I have my friends on facebook for that. Half of the stuff he presents I've already read on the net. Lame. Not to mention those brain hemorrhaging Jaywalking segments. Do Jay fans realize that most of these people are feigning ignorance to be on TV? Jay is intolerable.
-
I thought I was the only one who picked up on that. I hate the way he smugly laughs and condescends to the "ignorant" folks on the street, when it's obvious most of these people are manipulating him to be on T.V.
-
...Jay and NBC deserve the lashing that Letterman and everyone is giving. Leno's "Don't blame Conan" speech was just as dispicable as Dave made it out to be. JAY was the one who forced Carson into retirement. I don't care what Letterman does in his personal life. At least he has the backbone to tell it like it is. Leno is a weasel and, unforunately, we're probably stuck with him for a very long time now on The Tonight Show; his ratings will probably be good, because those middle-aged lazy fat fucks who think movies where animals talk and America's Home Videos are the most hilarious things ever think that Jay is the best host in the history of the show and will tune in. And even if he doesn't get the same ratings he used to get, what can NBC do? Move Fallon into the spot? Yeah right. Face it, the only way we'll ever get rid of Jay Leno is if one of his cars runs him over while he's working on it.
-
I just watched the clip of Leno doing revisionist history. The thought that NBC did everything, that Jay Leno, the man WHO HID IN A CLOSET TO SPY ON NBC EXECS to protect his position, the man who was #1 in late night talk shows, was a passive victim in ALL of this, having no hand in ANY of these moves, is staggering.
-
I am a middle-aged lazy fat fuck and I resent that. I love Letterman, Conan, Stewart, Colbert and Ferguson.I am also amazed that this has not come up, in any of the talkbacks I have seen. There was a book called "Hollywood Babylon" that came out a few years ago dishing on Hollywood rumors, like Jamie Lee Curtis being born a man, or with both sets of equipment. Their claim was that Letterman was allegedly hung like Milton Berle, John Dillinger and Secretariat, combined.
-
CONAN crushes his enemies, and listens to the lamentations of their women. He also destroys serpents and trusts only Crom. Not this redheaded sadsack.
-
Letterman's interpretation as fact. Letterman is not telling the truth about what Leno said. He said he held no animosity towards Conan. Conan forced NBC to force Leno out. Then, when he finally got his big chance, he failed miserably. Even with the extra eyeballs watching him because of this mess, he's STILL not getting the ratings Leno got. Sorry, most people don't like Conan that much. They happen to be very loud people, but they aren't very many. If they were, they'd be watching his damn show. But back to Letterman, he's being an asshole. He's not telling jokes, he's making personal attacks. And now, after not mentioning anything, Leno is starting to point out that Letterman is a vile old scumbag who fucks his writer's while his wife is at home. And yes, some of them I'm sure were 19...
-
..Conan DID NOT force Leno out!! The transitional deal was presented to Leno FIVE FUCKING YEARS AGO!! And you know what? LENO AGREED TO IT!! I'm sure if he put his foot down then, none of this would have ever happened and Conan would have walked to Fox back then. Letterman is telling the truth, Leno is a back stabbing prick. And Letterman, above anyone else, would know that from when Jay FUCKED HIM OVER!! If you don't like it, then fuck off and don't watch or listen to him.
-
When NBC told him in 2004 that it wanted to promise "Tonight" to O'Brien, "I said, ‘Well, I’ve been number one for 12 years,'" Leno said. "They said, ‘We know that, but we don’t think you can sustain that.’ I said, ‘Okay. How about until I fall to number two, then you fire me?’ ‘No, we made this decision.’ I said, ‘That’s fine.’ Don’t blame Conan O’Brien. Nice guy, good family guy, great guy. He and I have talked-- and not a problem since then. That’s what managers and people do, they try to get something for their clients. I said, ‘I’ll retire just to avoid what happened the last time.’ Okay."The actual video clip of Leno saying "don't blame Conan" can be found on tv.gawker.com
But then you a right-wing asshat who hates Dave because of your twisted politics, so you can't be reasoned with. But you CAN be proven wrong. -
I recorded it on my TiVo if you want to watch. I'm sure it's on youtube by now. Letterman is a cranky old man who was too much of a pussy to simply ask for the job he wanted...
-
If at 60, you can pull that off after having heart surgery, you must be a god among men...
-
You dumb fuck. I just watched the clip. AGAIN. I just saw and heard Jay Leno say "Don't blame Conan O'Brien." AGAIN. Fuckstick.
-
Because he had too much class and too much respect for Carson to campaign for the job while Carson was still in the chair. Something Jay had no problem with.
-
Leno just whimpers, says "yea, sure" and then blames NBC for whatever happens. "It's not my fault." "I told em I would only go back to 1130 if Conan was okay with it"Buncha pansy-ass ways to make him appear friendly and blameless, putting all the decisions on someone else.Well, guess what: Conan had the brass ones to stand up for himself and his team, Leno has none at all. All Leno had to do was the same thing as Conan: Just Say No. But Leno just Whimpered and Simpered.
-
And I have no problem with him taking the piss out of Leno.
I just wish he would bring the funny while doing it, rather than just going on rants. -
Honestly? I'm smiling and I'm laughing, watching Dave.
-
I like Leno and will continue too. Always disliked Letterman. Each show has its dislikes and likes. None of em are perfect. I usually watch Kimmels opening monologue and lenos, then go to whatever show has a guest on I like. Craig Ferguson I usually watch his interviews because theyre not scripted and have normal conversations and have fun. But each show is different. To label one I guess is kind of dumb. I dont live in US so never cared about ratings and such, could be different countries tastes and opinions on each show in general. US must have alot of troubles with NBC and such and programming. My parents never watched any late night until they started watching Craig Ferguson and thats all they watched. I didnt like him at first but once I got used to it I love it. Lenos always been playing it safe, and I don't mind whatever show gets me to laugh I'll watch it. Doesn't have to be ground breaking to keep my interest.
-
guys love him for the same reason you say you hate Dane Cook. Whenever I see Conan O'Brien, I see him running around the stage like an idiot, making stupid faces, doing his dumb puppet string thing on his legs (by God, that NEVER gets old), and playing the crowd for laughs by more of what he's doing than what he's saying. Aren't these most of the complaints people here have about Dane Cook?
-
When he took over an already popular show/timeslot, he did okay. But when he had to stand on his own, epic fail.Whimpering, tail tucked between his legs, and scampering back to that timeslot might not work as well as he thinks after this debacle. "They used to love me at 1130, but they hate me at 10. I must go back to the magic-happy-place timeslot! Then I will be loved again!"Difference is, he is not inheriting a popular, beloved timeslot and show from a beloved and retiring legend who is passing the torch. He is stealing a timeslot and running home to mommy with this embarrassing move: mommy mommy they were mean to me at 10, but I am safe at home now
-
That's why I don't like him.
-
Coughlin Laws. Not going to comment on being proven completely wrong in your statement about what Leno said? Or just going to change the subject and start ranting about Dane fucking Cook? A tactic right out of the right wing asshat manual.
-
he was interested in eventually taking over the Tonight Show. He couldn't have said something once? Also, if you're going to say he was too classy to ask for the Tonight Show, why wasn't Conan being classless for forcing NBC to demote Jay Leno? It's circular logic. No matter what happens, you find Leno in the wrong...
-
I mean, isn't the data really extrapolated from a small subset? How the fuck is that a sure thing, especially with viewing habits today? How can everything for advertisers hinge on this rating system? On the other hand, I have to say that internet advertising is almost totally useless. I think that too many companies listen to all this b.s. about new media and social networking, not realizing that ads in print media and on television still have a much bigger impact than the internet, which basically makes nearly all forms of advertising impotent (google adwords is based on this fact, so they scale up to the point where it DOES do something). I'm not siding with the ad men, I'm saying that they listen too much to the other side of the coin and then leverage that to basically wipe magazines and newspapers out of existence when that's a far more targeted, engaged audience than you have on ANY website. They're basically cutting off their nose to spite their face, because once those audiences are gone, welcome to irrelevance... or find new ways to advertise online, which really is going to take a genius. I hate pundits who proclaim the death traditional advertising, because in a way, those channels are still more important to advertisers than ever, and they should be finding new ways to make it work for both parties, rather than refusing to pay and basically putting magazines, newspapers, and networks out of business.
-
...he earned respect for the way he handled this. Leno pissed away whatever respect he might have had.Letterman, Stewart, Ferguson, Kimmel are the ones I like.
-
Not even close. Conan actually operates on a very intellectual level. The guy went to Harvard, wrote for the Simpsons. He's a very smart guy. He's not just just making retarded faces. His humor is irreverent, but not dumb. I happen to be one of the few people who occasionally enjoys Dane Cook, but he's basically dumb humor at it's finest.
-
originally back in 2004. He wasn't talking about what's going on right now...

Well, sk229, we have no choice but to trust the ratings
by coughlins laws
We trust polls that only sample a couple of thousand people that can predict Presidential elections where over 100 million people vote. Most polls are so accurate that they come within 2 or 3 points of what actually happens, which is damn impressive. I always wondered how you can trust the ratings, too. Cause how do they really know what I'm watching, especially when i skip channels so much and try to watch 2 or 3 shows at once. But, that's the system we have. I think that radio ratings are even less reliable...
-
who like his safe, bland, and populist bullshit. His ratings will die with his audience, which gives him another ten years. 30-50 years-olds like myself will follow Coco. NBC will get the ratings they need now - but they better start grooming someone to take the Tonight Show. It won't be Jimmy "Why the hell did I leave SNL" Fallon, who without Tina Fey writing his stuff is about as funny as a moldy shower. So who will it be?
-
how pathetic is that?
-
Jan 20, 2010 4:48:50 PM CST
OK, movietool, even if you're right, they made $300 million
by coughlins laws
a year with Leno. Another 10 years would be perfect, giving him the same amount of time Carson got. Now you're starting to get it. They never should have fired/demoted him...
-
Letterman had Jay Leno on as a guest/comedian every few months for YEARS back in the 1980's. Leno KNEW that Dave's lifelong dream was to step in and host The Tonight Show when Carson retired. Dave and Johnny were friends and golf buddies. So Leno hears that NBC wants Carson to retire and snakes his way into the job, ruins his decade + long friendship with Letterman and is now doing the EXACT SAME THING to Conan. Once again he's claiming that "It's a network decision". Fuck you Leno! It's your decision! Be a man and take responsibility for once. Jay is in it for Jay and couldn't give a shit about anyone else.
-
that Leno "inherited" The Tonight Show from Carson. Its common knowledge that Lenos ratings started to beat Letterman on a regular basis around the time of the OJ trial and the infamous "dancing Itos" (and you want call Conan's antics dumb and sophomoric?). Leno's defense is that Conan's ratings are low, his ratings are hurting local affilates, so NBC wants to make it all better again, like when Leno was on at 11:35. So he says sure massa, Toby be good, Conan will say sure, I'll roll over and take it up the ass for the bossman. And then he just shrugs his shoulders.
-
I remember Leno had an hour long prime time special on NBC, it may have been around Thanksgiving of that year, which I'm sure was based entirely on his Letterman appearances.
-
Letterman: I used to think he was on on par with Leno (not that I knew much about Leno). Now that I've been learning about these guys, I think Letterman is way more awesome, way nicer, and way funnier than Leno. I'd far rather hang out with Letterman than Jay Leno, the middle of the road douche.
Leno: His old stuff used to be funny. But you can tell on his old Letterman interviews (and this realy surprised me) is that he NEEDED to always one up Letterman. Several times he'd just kind of roast him on his own show. Which is ok, but sometimes it was just, I don't know... not very classy. At any rate, most of Leno I have seen is his Tonight Show. And its boring as hell. The jokes arent funny. The schticks aren't funny. The interviews are by the book. No wonder it had high ratings...it was easy as hell to fall asleep to.
Conan: I think Conan is really good. Sure he's goofy, but he's not annoying and loud like Cook. And Conan does pretty clean jokes, no cursing, is very creative with some of the bits, and excels at self-deprecating humor. Plus Andy is far more relatable than some musician who laughs at your jokes.
His interviews are also good, and he definitely seems genuinely nice, if not sometimes annoying (unlike Jay, who comes off like your Dads windbag friend, and Letterman, who comes off like the guy your friend hates).
thats my .02. No matter where he goes, Conan will have a ton of support by his fans AND the Hollywood crowd it seems. Leno will come back to whither away telling baby level to jokes to 45 year olds and giving softball questions/press. Letterman will get the last laugh at Leno, and wonder if his Tonight Show crowd would have been more Conan ready than Jays. Only person in this group is getting the short end of the reputation/comedy stick while they get paid lots of money; Leno. I'd rather go out with dignity than be the douchebag who hosts the Tonight Show. -
Jan 20, 2010 5:01:34 PM CST
Yeah, Leno's initial ratings were better than what Conan
by coughlins laws
gets now, and Conan had his own show for 17 years...
-
In the future, instead of videos of soothing sunsets, pretty meadows, and the music of Chopin, the elderly will be ushered into the afterlife by the uproarious comedy stylings of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
-
BTW, this was on Conan's Inside the Actor's Studio, thought I'd share it with his fans: try and youtube the whole interview. And Begin:
Burt Ward shows up to Harvard to give a talk. Apparently he's all full of himself, saying how "Batman" is really about Robin, the partnership is the most important thing etc etc.
Well he brought the Robin suit with him. So Conan and his buddy show up in Harvard Police uniforms to "guard it" before the talk and on stage with Burt Ward. He says "Of course, of course, I was expecting that" (or something to that effect).
So halfway during his talk, someone dressed up as The Penguin stands up in the crowd and says (forgive my memory): "When is a Robin, NOT a Robin?". Burt Ward, totally taken by surprise replies "uhhh....I don't know?". The Penguin says "When he's missing his feathers gagagagagaweeeeeh!" or something to that effect. Right then the lights go out in the theater, Conan and his buddy steal the costume, run out, and speed away in a waiting car.
Now if that isn't hilarious on about three different levels, then I don't know what is. I would have laughed my ass off if I was Burt Ward, the victim of a "crime" ripped straight from his show.
-
Either that or bring back the Masturbating Bear and have him jizz a massive load on the NBC logo. That would be EPIC TV!!!
-
Leno was a stand up comic. In the 1980's, unless you scored a movie, sitcom (ala Robin Williams) or were a regular on a tv show, you never left the stand up circuit. Letterman had Jay on A LOT. Shit, I didn't know who Jay Leno, Steven Wright, Penn & Teller, Chris Elliot, Sandra Bernhart or Howard Stern were until they kept showing up on Late Night With David Letterman. Dave introduced a lot of (now successful) unknows on that show and it was a springboard for some (yeah you Leno).
-
Dresses as the riddler
-
I would compare him more to Monty Python than Dane Cook.
-
Jim and Conan always seemed to have a ball together!
And Coughlin, more people watch Conan than what the ratings indicate. Not everyone has a Nielsen box, and alot of other people either tivo it or watch it via Hulu. Essentially, the ratings mean absolute shit. -
is all you need for late night. Comparing Conan to Monty Python is fucking asinine. Honestly? Do you guys really believe this shit? The Conan I see these days is barely better than Leno.

Tom Hanks didn't start "Coco"... It was Brian McCann
by bob loblaw law blog
Brian McCann is Conan's longtime writer and bit actor (Preparation H. Raymond, the "No Reason To Live" Guy, FedEx Pope, etc.).He's also the voice of Twitter Tracker, which was introduced on the second episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. McCann calls Conan "Bro" and Conan says, "Stop calling me 'Bro'!" So McCann then said, "Bro's a No No for Coco?"After that sketch, Hanks called it the "Coco Christopher Show," after the nickname that had JUST PLAYED on Twitter Tracker and Conan's real middle name, Christopher. So, again... Brian McCann first uttered the nickname "Coco"... and then Hanks repeated it.See these videos from the second episode for the proof:First "Twitter Tracker" sketch with line "Bro's a No No for Coco?" - http://bit.ly/CMAYI Tom Hanks interview following first "Twitter Tracker" sketch. - http://bit.ly/4P20HC And now you know the rest of the story (or whatever...).
-
How long do you think Leno got on his new contract? I say 5 years. He's 60. So if he doesn't get fired how long do you think he'll go before leaving? If he leaves in 5 years then who is after The Tonight Show will more then likely slide into The Tonight Show unless NBC plans on fucking over the 12:35 guy again...Jimmy Fallon this time. So it is possible that in 5 years Jimmy Fallon might be the host of The Tonight Show.....LOL!!!! That'll go over well. NBC is fucking retarded.
Letterman's contract might be up in 2012. I bet CBS offers him 5 more years. If Dave doesn't take it because he wants to spend time with his son, then Ferguson moves up to Dave's spot. So in a few years the line-up might be Conan FOX, Fallon NBC, Kimmel ABC, and Ferguson CBS.
What I like about this retarded move with Leno coming back is Fallon getting The Tonight Show in 5 years or more. Fallon just started and is horrible at monologues. That's why his are so short. The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon will fail.
Main America doesn't care about a back stabbing host. They hired Bush for president, FUCK! the US was founded on backstabbery. But what I hope is that a lot of celebrities refuse to go on The Tonight Show. I bet the movie studios will have in their contracts that actors have to appear on The Tonight Show, but I hope it stirs up some serious shit.
I wish Carson was still alive. He'd probably go on Letterman and say if my intention when leaving The Tonight Show was for it to get shit on by NBC and by some dude suffering from giant head disease, then I would of just fucked a school boy wearing a Letterman shirt in the ass on my last show.
-
Your incredibly shitty five-nights a week lead-in (which matters the MOST to Neilson houses since they record what they watch live) managed to hobble Conan every single day of the week. While Leno's 10pm lead-ins were shows like West Wing and ER, Conan had to make due with a similar-type show as his, aired earlier, without humour. Leno managed to simultaneously ruin Conan's lead-in, sour people on NBC talk shows, and dillute the pool of guests. And surprise, surprise, fewer people watched Conan! Leno's ratings WILL beat Conan's, but only because NBC is shelling out huge for new 10pm dramas, NOT because Leno is better, funnier, or more popular. In two-to-five years NBC will have nothing left but Jimmy Fallon, at which point the venerable Tonight Show gets the Old Yeller treatment.
-
"In the Year Two Thousaaanndd" before the weeks up.
-
Actually comparing Conan to Monty Python is a pretty valid comparison. Both are brilliant. Both use wit and intellect to come up with seemingly irrelevant and surreal humor. It's "stupid" and brilliant all at the same time.
-
Cold, forgotten transients begging to get out of the rain will be the only ones willing to be Jay's studio audience.
-
Leno had weak ratings until Hugh grant. Plus his lead INS were friends law and order and ER. Conan had leno. not really the same is it?
-
It was a DIFFERENT show dumb asses, else wise, why the hell have a new set, new location, new time, different theme, and for fuck's sake, a whole different lineage! Every time some one posts a link to a clear point about Leno being a backstabber, you either ignore it, or try to misdirect because you know you can't refute it. NBC's affiliates probably didn't give much of a rat's ass about who host's the Tonight Show, more to the point, they were sick of Jay's Prime Time Show hemorrhaging their News hours. So where is NBC at now? Yeah, Jay's back! Five slots of PrimeTime to fill with what??? I'm sure Jay will get most of his "loyalist" audience back, but the cost to the network is going to be far greater than if they'd just let Conan have a little while longer, kept Jay on the backburner, and pumped the PrimeTime with some quality. Honestly, I think Conan would have done a decent job, gotten even better at the gig, but really, I think he's going to be better off shrugging off the Tonight Show legacy, as it already was tainted and too tame. I'm old school; I used to dig Letterman back in the day(always hated Paul. Sorry Paul.) and it took a while for Conan to grow on me. I never hated Jay, even after the first dust up, but now, it's just too damn apparent that he's a double-dealing, two faced douche. Do you score with the chick who screwed over your bro'? Even though she you know she's done it twice? Probably has a disease too? I guess if your desperate, or dumb, and of course, she probably thinks she's done no wrong too.(Flip the genders, same story.)
-
you keep sticking up for Leno but you keep talking about Conan failing so herefore he should move on, but didn't Leno alo fail? He had five years to say "I don't wanna go" but he didn't. He left and failed. I don't get how you could be in his corner. But then again, you Palin supporters love rewarding failure.
-
Excellent point. NBC had "water cooler" shows airing at 10 pm such as ER and West Wing (MustSee TV...they OWNED Thursday nights). Now they have a program that Univision beats regularly. Argue that Cough Laws.
-
Late Night. However, that number isn't good enough for Prime Time. His 5 to 6 million a night is twice as many viewers as either Conan or Letterman got. What's so hard to understand about that?
-
they really should have given Conan some time without Leno's "show" as a lead in to see if the ratings would change. Leno supporter=contrarian?
-
you say that Leno didn't fail even though he was cancelled because of low numbers. But you also say that Leno is the best because more people watch him than other late night shows. on one hand you're sayng the numbers don't matter and on the other hand you're saying the numbers are what make him great. Is that correct?
-
That Leno, such a man of class and integrity: http://tinyurl.com/yfybn6l
-
Robbles and the rest of you. What's Conan's excuse for not getting ratings before Jay's 10pm show started. He took over a #1 show, same as Jay did when he started. The difference is that Jay haven't already been on his own show for almost two decades. Where's your excuses now.
Also, Jay threatened to go to another network when he left Tonight. NBC couldn't have him be #1 somewhere else so gave him the 10pm slot for two years to keep him. The same thing they did with Conan to keep him way back when. Jay took the Tonight, no duh, you're an up and coming comic and they offer you late night you take it. Boo Hoo, Letterman wanted it. Wanting something doesn't make it happen. Conan got a guarantee of 5 years or 7 whatever. Jay got a guarantee of 2 years. NBC reneged on both. They wanted to try something else. It may not have been a good idea but it was a compromise. Conan is the butt hurt one who said no. They offer Jay back his show, which he didn't want to leave in the first place, he takes it. What part of that don't you understand. -
for the first few weeks (about the same as Jay's) then suffered some drop off when Jay's audience couldn't handle Conans material. To think that Conan was going to hold on to the number 1 rating slot without some turbulance is unrealistic.
-
And that's Community, and sorry Joel, I could live without it; it's amusing sometimes, even occasionally laugh outloud funny, but mostly it's kind of mediocre. Except for the payoff, Jack Black's guest shot was kind of lackluster. Conan, if he decides to do another talk show, will come up with a whole new role call, and thank god, though I sometimes miss PIMPBOT, etc. and such, I think moving on will beneficial. Even though they re-branded the Year 2000 bit to 3000, it has become somewhat stale as well.
-
Full of repeats. No one was watching networks at that time.
-
Man I didn't realize there were so many Jay Leno apologists out there! No accounting for case I suppose...
-
Ahh yes, repeats and quality programming such as I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
-
but the true fuckwads are the execs at NBC. They're the ones who negotiated the "5 year deal" with Conan and Jay to keep both sides happy. They're the ones who came up with the cost-cutting idea of The Jay Leno Show. And now that that decision has come back to bite them in the ass, which almost everyone said it would, they come up with this half hour lead in to the 12:05 Tonight Show that is absurd. Conan would have had to be hopped up on heroin to agree to such nonsense.
-
And Conan got Munsoned! ;-) Really, guys, you can keep defending Jay, probably cuz you admire his Ninja Class backstabby skillz, and you have a slight point that the "Neilsons" didn't dig Conzie's Tonight Show. Heck, I've seen a hollywood vet take that tact too, he chalks it up to the machinations of business; I think it gives him an out, because really, he empathizes with Jay more anyway. Two weeks from now, this will all be over; the peeps who support Conan will wait for him to pop back up, Jay's fan's will follow him back to the Tonight Show, and NBC will still be in the crapper. As Roland would say in the Dark Tower, the world has moved on...
-
So your excuse is that Jay's audience couldn't handle Conan because he's so cutting edge? Conan is a clone of Dave, that's why people didn't want to watch him. His supposed edge is just weirdness for the sake of being weird. When Jay started he wasn't Johnny so some people didn't like what he did. So in your opinion if Conan had more time he would have become popular. That's possible, after he watered down his show to appeal to people who watch tv at 11:35pm, making him into a guy you hate. Just like you have been until this all started. For weeks you all posted that Conan lost his edge, I don't like him much anymore. And, on top of that you want him to go to FOX, the most vilified network (up until now) by the talkbackers because of what they do to your favorite niche shows. He should go to the CW since that is his audience, age wise. He can't get good ratings with reruns as a lead? FOX has nothing but reruns, of old shows, or news at 10pm. All of your arguments FAIL!
-
and show up on Conan before the week ends.
-
Conan: 1.9
Letterman: .7
Leno: 2.00
-
If I was Zucker I'd try that, and I'd bet he would. Tentacle love is some of the sweetest love.
-
Most hilarious is that Conan is a clone of Dave! Are you a clone of Jay? Some people think Conan would've done better... Some people want Conan to end up at FOX. Granted, there's enough screeching going on to grind anyone ears to mulch. The are many variable to this scenario, and the bottom line to me, is SOME of you Jay supporters, admire the weasel, and I admire someone who is not.
-
Granted, Leno best night of the week has been Tuesdays anyway, as The Biggest Loser has proven to be the most effective lead in to The Jay Leno Show. And that in a nutshell is the demographic that finds Jay Leno funny: viewers of The Biggest Loser lol.
-
The Phantom Menace sucked!
We needed a laugh. We'll agree to disagree. Maybe I'm out of touch. I'll admit that. I just don't find Conan funny.
Speaking of Phantom Menace, found this youtube channel, RedLetterMedia, from a link on Collider. They had this great new Star Wars crawl made by College Humor and under it was that Red Letter Media, 70 min review of the Phantom Menace. Both of these things had me rolling on the floor. Any true Star Wars fan should see them. -
*** glub, gargle, glub ***Yeah, we get it, Father Coughlin. You don't like edgy, flippant, irreverantly styled humor. You prefer the lumpy tang of Leno's flaccid vanilla.
-
Just thought that was more interesting than Leno.
-
Would be swell if Jack and Meg could make an appearance.
-
Just got back from combing my hair.
-
the number 1 movie in America at one point? Leno reminds me of that movie. Just an unfunny train wreck that somehow finds an audience.
-
with his give me Tonight Show before i'm 50 or i walk! cripes i bet he wishes he just ate humble pie and kept his old show now.
-
Hit the talkbacks a while back, and it indeed was funny, sometimes cuttingly insightful.
-
he should have sucked it up and moved to 1205-hell if I was running NBC I'd hold to his contract-NBC gave him the Tonight show, they DIDN'T promise him when it would air-Leno was only good for the first 30 min anyway- the monologue and the first "bit", skip the Guest... Jays lead would would have brought the viewers- letterman's 2nd half hour usually sucks so he'd pick up those viewers...he'd be sitting atop the ratings something he has yet to do....
-
...he'd have to change his name to Jay Leno.
-
Conan and Andy's love child?
-
As about hollow, as a bag of Doritos that was just eaten by Jay.
-
This is absolutely false. It's stronger. Dave is a MUCH better interviewer than Jay or Conan, and the Late Show's presentation for music acts will NEVER be matched. Case in point, Monday's show.
-
the new, Internet-savvy hip young crowd that advertisers drool over is lost to Jay and NBC. Oh, Leno might still pick up all of our grandparents with insomnia, but in five years when that audience gets carted off to old folks homes or coma wards and NBC is now looking at no obvious successor and the loss of respect of the only logical ones (Kimmel, Stewart, any and all funny comedians that are naturally sympathetic to Conan) they will realize just how they have fucked up.
-
hearing here is how awesome Conan is. Well, how come no one wanted to watch him, then? Sorry, but more people like Leno than Conan. All the people threatening to boycott Leno/NBC were never watching Leno to begin with. Conan's getting $40 million to walk away, will get a show on another network, and he'll probably fail. Sorry guys, as much as you hate Leno and as much noise as you're making, you just don't have as many people agreeing with you as you think. Leno's audience will follow him back to 11:35pm. There is no backlash. He will continue to kick Letterman's ass. Letterman is just an insult-comic. He's coming off as classless. Everynight with the Jay "Big-Jawed" Leno. It's pretty ridiculous that someone as ugly and creepy as Letterman can make fun of someone else's looks...
-
and the subsequent discomfort with his interviews. The guests will be sweaty with anxiety of pissing off the youth crowd, the ones with morals and ethics will be masking their contempt of Jay, he'll be sensing all of this and flailing about without direction... it'll be good TV, that I'll check out online so as to avoid giving NBC my money.
-
First, Red Letter Media's reviews are fantastic. The Star Trek ones, you could watch multiple times. There is not a single point made that you could ever disagree with. Very well-done, very funny.
Second, what is with this notion that the 12:30 hosts will invariably inherit the 11:30 shows? No network would have Ferguson or Fallon anchor their late night programming. I'd just like to stop this bit of conventional wisdom right now. -
The amount of vitriol directed towards Leno is totally unwarranted and when the dust settles, people are gonna start to realize that nobody "deserves" the Tonight Show, especially someone who can't deliver ratings...
-
No backlash. Just you and like 2 other people. Just look at the rallies. Enough said.

JokesOnUs, are you joking? You think people in Hollywood
by coughlins laws
care? Like 3 people have said something, all has-beens. Leno's having no problem getting guests. Leno offers these idiots their biggest possible exposure to plug their movies. You guys are insane if you think that Leno's celebrity friends of 20-30 years are going to all of the sudden abandon him. He's still pulling the numbers. If he has the same amount of viewers back at 11:30pm he has right now, he will be back to doubling Letterman's audience...
-
Yes, Coughlin, the unwashed, uncritical, unthinking, smelly masses do indeed bring in ratings gold for Leno. This is not a positive quality, and very few people are arguing against that. By contrast, anyone who matters - anyone with an education; discerning, tasteful individuals - favour Conan. These are facts, and everyone in the TB knows this.
The man you're hitching your wagon to is a populist, unfunny schmuck - a pariah now reviled by many of his peers - who brings in the bucks. So what? You going to start going on about how Two and a Half Men is the greatest comedy of our generation? -
Leno has 5 to 6 million people watching him. Conan is NOT a victim. He let NBC force Leno out. He could've left to Fox or ABC if he wanted, but he was selfish and wanted the Tonight Show...
-
with different taste than you? Are you honestly saying that anyone who doesn't like Conan is all those awful things you said? Why do you have such contempt for those that disagree with you? Have you no heart? Have you no soul? No wonder you like the hateful, creepy, insult-comic Letterman and the sophomoric Conan. I'm glad to see that a Masturbating Bear is what you consider High-Brow Humor....

Mr.NiceGaius, I understand that this isn't Leno's demos
by coughlins laws
But I don't understand the hatred and vitriol for Leno and anyone who dares watch the guy. Why the animosity? It makes no sense. If you're so right about Conan being great, you wouldn't have to tear down Leno and all his viewers. These people are calling anyone who watches Leno "stupid, un-educated, smelly, assholes", etc, etc, etc. It says alot about a person that has to rip others to feel good about themselves. Why can't these people just say, "Conan's getting screwed, I think he's funnier than Leno" and leave it at that? Why do they have to wish death on Leno and call everyone who watches him a smelly moron?
-
Coughlin, I will grant you that my description of the average Leno viewer is pretty mean. The trouble is, it's true. "The masses are asses," as they say, and the person who can have the widest appeal to bring in the most of them (ie: Leno) is going to have to dumb down his humour accordingly. That's the invisible hand right there.
Put simply, most people are stupid. If you can accommodate them, you win. You won't have a good show, but you'll bring in the ratings. So... you win, I guess? Is that going to be our benchmark, high ratings above all else?
Second, what, Obama? What the fuck? I honestly don't understand why you cram this right wing shit in here. It has nothing to do with anything. Fuck, you couldn't pay Letterman not to suck Bush's dick after September 11th. You gonna start singing his praises now too?
Finally, the masturbating bear is funny precisely because it's not remotely high-brow. That is the entire appeal. It was even funnier when he didn't wear a diaper. -

Coughlins Laws - that's nice that you understand but...
by mr. nice gaius
...why the need to suck Leno's cock? Do you really think he's that funny, classy, and above reproach? Do you really think it was a "classy" move for him to all-to-easily jump at NBC's decision to render Conan's version of the Tonight Show null n' void? Why couldn't he just say, "No, the Tonight Show is Conan's. I couldn't do that to him after we just handed him the torch 7 months ago."?You appear to have a highly dubious concern for Leno's public standing. It's very odd and reads like a bunch of phony bullshit. If I didn't know better, I'd say you're trolling for the hell of it. (Either that or you're a NBC plant...)
-
...came from a desire to pressure NBC to reverse their decision to move Leno to 11:30PM and defend Conan who I felt hadn't been given the chance to prove himself as host of the Tonight Show.
There's really nothing to affect anymore. The deals have been made. The long-festering anger over the '92 Leno crisis has finally been expressed.
Now it remains to be seen where Conan ends up. I'll go back to ignoring Leno. I'll continue to watch David Letterman. And I'll never watch another NBC show until Jeff Zucker has been fired from NBC. -

You didn't respond to any of my more vulgar remarks aimed your way. And you claim not to like Letterman because he is an insult comic. So, it would appear you might not be just another troll but honestly believe what you say. I don't agree with ANY of it, but I do give credit where credit is due. -
instead of glass half full or half empty it seems like some people are "glass with liquid in it" type folk. Coco got a 40 million dollar severance package so I don't really pity the guy, but I am saddened by knowing that as long as Jay Leno is alive then my job is in danger. I just want a little security. Is that too much to ask. As an actor, if I moved across the country to take over for an actor who got another gig, only their gig didn't work out and they got fired... so then the guy, thumbs in his belt loops, says "Aw shucks, I'll take it back if he don't want it." and suddenly I'm out of a job? I thought everyone hated a scab, Coughlin.

and keep fuckin that chicken, Leno.

And, maybe for the last time. You will be missed (by all us low-brow bastards).

but Leno makes that per YEAR. And he has for more than a decade. He's said he doesn't need the money so he wrecked another person's career just because he could -- and that is primo douchebaggery. That he did it at the behest of corporate management shows how his fake-ass, luxury Harley-Davidson riding 'everyday guy' persona is a delusion.

It was an amazing experience. I desperately tried getting tickets when the show was first starting, but they never got back to me, so I gave up. My girlfriend's sister gets tickets for February 19th a couple weeks ago, so my gf asks me to see if we can get some. I end up getting tickets for the 18th. I'm ok with that. Then I FIND OUT THEY ARE TAKING MY FAVORITE LATE NIGHT HOST AWAY FROM ME. So I camp out all last night. Totally worth it.
-
to get it right the nickname coco was first used in a sketch they do called "twitter tracker". so the writers came up with the name. on that same show tom hanks later came on and continued to use it. from that point on coco stuck. it wasn't hanks that came up with it, it was either conan himself or one of the writers.

Dave pummeled Jay in the ratings for the first two and a half years they went head to head.

Can't wait for the nbc execs to say "Conan screwed Conan." I'm looking forward to the chin's ratings and seeing if he will ever bounce back from this.

I'll never intentionally or unintentionally watch Jay, or much of NBC again, not that it matters much. Conan will rise again. and Dave never pummeled him, he just barely beat him. Dave never doubled Leno in the ratings like Leno doubled Letterman. And guys, it's not so much that I love Leno, it's that he doesn't deserve the attacks that are being leveled against him. Of course I don't think he's the best thing in comedy. Alot of his stuff falls flat. However, I don't see how the same people who claim to despise Dane Cook can like Conan O'Brien for acting the same way and Letterman stopped being anything but an insult-comic years ago...
-

Dana Carvey is a guy who got screwed. He was originally
by coughlins laws
up for Late Night after Letterman left and they decided to go with Conan O'Brien after talks fell through. So, not only did Conan O'Brien screw Jay Leno out of the Tonight Show, he screwed dana Carvey out of Late Night as well. As far as whoever said Jimmy Fallon will take over the Tonight Show eventually, even I don't think the suits at NBC are THAT stupid...The only thing I can say about Jimmy Fallon is at least he is TRYING to do something different with the format that Carson used for 30 years. Almost every single Late Nigh talk show for the last 40 years have been - Monologue, Comedy Bit, Guest #1, Guest #2, Music Act, End. At least Fallon, as unfunny and painful to watch as he is, is mixing it up a little...

That is all.

As far as taking insults and not responding, I've learned my les
by coughlins laws
long ago with these guys. Most people here just love to toss insults and do not even try to argue fair. I can sit here talking back in forth in a talkback for days getting personal attacks thrown at me for no reason and calmly type the reasoning behind my opinions. Then, after enduring dozens and dozens of insults, I'll finally return in kind, THEN I GET accused of insults. There's simply no point for me to respond. I can't even tell who I'm having a conversation with or if it's even a real conversation. Anyone here can say anyone and you have to assume they're all lying about who they are. However, even though I'm usually outnumbered 20 to 1 here, especially on politics, I feel i get my point accross and if I can just persuade one of these basement-dwelling teenagers to at least check out what I say and perhaps change their minds on one subject, I feel I've done my job...
-
Conan is a goofy bastard. Genuinely goofy, in real life and on TV. It turns some people off, but at least he doesn't TRY to be edgy just to gain a following like Dane Cook. If you want to make a fair comparison, compare Jimmy Fallon to Dane Cook. Both are so desperate for people to like them that they'll adopt whatever fad is "in" at the moment. Jay Leno postures in a similar vein; a decent comedian who completely dumbed himself down to appeal to the masses. And how do you address Leno's blatant lie the other day that he tried to get out of his contract but NBC said no, so he had no choice but to take back the Tonight Show? If he really wanted out of NBC, he could have rightly faulted them for breach of contract (since his contract guaranteed 10:00 pm) and walked away with a SHITLOAD of cash ($150 million I believe). Bill Hicks called it years ago: Leno is a company man. Pure and simple. He sold his soul to NBC.
-
No one spins the shit like you do.
-
he said. Just because you don't like someone doesn't make them a liar...
-
like an idiot, relying on physical comedy and wierd faces to get laughs, much like Dane Cook. So I ask once again, how is he different than dane Cook?
-
NBC's original plan was to pay off andy richter (a hefty sum of 250 million) and give the tonight show sidekick job to Leno, however both leno and conan (as well as richter) veto'd this, so NBC's next move was to fire zucker and leno and keep things the way they were. Late last night i got word that the NBC shareholders felt that firing zucker was too harsh (they still belive he can resurect the network) so it was decided to just pay off conan and his crew and be done with the matterNow, i've heard rumblings that conan may have already signed a deal with David Letterman's worldwide pants and CBS this morning which essentially gives him the late show when letterman's contract is up this summer. Letterman is expected to have conan as his guest on March 1st and to officially announce he is retireing and O'brien will be his successor in september of this yearSo it's looking like by years end, conana will not only have a new job, but will be going head to head with Leno. I really do smell a sequel to late shift coming
-
let's face facts, all of us spouting behind the scenes stuff likely have as much information that we can independently verify from other websites. It's all opinion and hearsay... for now. However, the common link between the Tonight Show debacle now and in 1992 is Jay Leno. Jay Leno is contradicting things that he is quoted as saying, which makes him less trustworthy. So statistically, Conan is probably the most innocent party in all of this. And please don't accuse anyone of being a basement-dwelling teenager when you're on here all the time as well, hitting refresh and only posting on late night and political threads.
-
NBC would get higher ratings airing re-runs of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
All late night talk shows will forever be in Johnny's shadow.
-
He never wanted to leave the Tonight Show and now that he's back he'll do that show to his grave. He'll stick around for another 13 years at least, which will tie him with Carson's 30-year run. But knowing Leno he won't stop there - he'll keep going just so he can be the longest-running Tonight Show host. I'd say that Leno will finally retire in his mid 70s. But who takes over the show then?
-
evrything that Leno has said involving this matter is bullshit..his excuses...his attempts to shift the blame to the execs...all in a vain attempt to get people to like him and watch his show...cause if they dont, then NBC will definitley have a problem...and yes i think any celeb that has an ounce of dignity or self respect will never do the tonight show again..im sorry but its tarnished...as one poster said...its like falling in love with a girl that fucked you over twice..fuck leno and fuck NBC..im out on friday.the olympics can kiss my ass.

Back in 2004 when the deal for conana was reached, Lenjo proudly said he was ready to retire in 2009, however late in 2008 he changed his mind, he said he enjoyed being in front of the audience everynight, however NBC already had the contract for O'brien to take over (a contract they put in place 5 years ago to keep conan from leaving NBC for another gig) Leno put up a huge fuss saying that he wanted to keep the show, so NBC figured they would just drop 5 hours of expensive programing a week and give Leno his tonight show and hour and a half earlier that way everyone would be happy..and we all know how that went. Leno backtracked after he wanted to retire, he really is a lying douche bag and he IS the villan of this whole mess, i can't see anyone in hollywood taking his side, especially comediansWhat NBC should have done was drop the jay leno show to one night a week (thursdays perhaps, which was his best ratings night with the must see TV comedy block as a lead in). Leno and NBC could have actually benefited from only having the show once a week instead of 5, conan could have stayed at 11:30 and the world would be happy..i still don't understand why they just didn't do that

I haven't been boycotting his entire network or jis advertisers, though.
The only non-NBC shows I watch regularly is LOST and maybe V. I LOVE NBC. The biggest thrill for me when I went to New York City was to be around, in and on top of Rockefeller Center. My preferred news sources are NBC Nightly News & MSNBC. I probably watched 70% of Tim Russert's Meet the Press run.
I don't WANT NBC as a whole to fail, but I do want the man who has taken them to fourth place to be FIRED. -
Let's see, he said he wanted to walk rather than retake the Tonight Show, but NBC wouldn't let him. How, after NBC violated his 10 pm contract, can the network still have contractual control over him and FORCE him back into the Tonight Show? The answer: THEY CAN'T! Especially when the central requirement of moving back to "Tonight" would require a whole new contract between Leno and NBC. Ergo, Leno lied when he said NBC wouldn't let him leave rather than take back the Tonight Show. It was all damage control. You're losing touch with reality in your blind defense of Leno, Coughlin.

Plus, you guys keep forgetting, Conan had ZERO PROBLEM
by coughlins laws
with forcing NBC to cancel Jay Leno back 5 years ago. Leno says he didn't want to go. Conan knew this, but instead of taking all these other offers he said he was getting, he went along with NBC forcing Leno out. So, how can you be upset with this. Plus, like Leno said, Conan went downhill in the Summertime and was losing to Letterman before the Jay Leno Show even came on. He was the Brand New Show with all the energy and supposedly all the hip, young fans. Yet he couldn't get more than 2 million people to watch him and couldn't beat Letterman after the first couple of weeks...
-
Leno decided that on his own, the only reason a contract was signed back in 2004 was so NBC could keep conan with the network. Leno was fine with this, he wanted to retire in 2009, but in 2008 he changed his mind, and rather then walk away, he threw a hissy fit and started dropping hints that he would start up a talk show at ABCNBC relaized that leno's veiwers might follow him to a new network, so they agreed to give him a prime time variety hour jusat so they could keep him and make him happyThe reason for all of this shit is Jay Leno, if he had stuck to his promise and just retired nothing would be wrong right now, but he got greedy and tried to stop the wheels once they were in motion, and look what happend, everything dominoed and conana andhis show were the ones who got fucked. The only one who came out on top of this whole situation was Jimmy fallon, he got his own show and has wisely stayed out of the whole fight (although insiders say he's on o'bvriens side)
-
...with the deal 6 years ago. Leno thought he was invincible but discovered he was nothing without the Tonight Show so he began his usual program of passive aggressive backroom bullshit to get a do over like a four year old. He killed the limping NBC primetime and the Tonight Show. What a guy.

-
Leno was happy, and was given a five year lease. FIVE fucking years. He said Conan was the best man for the job, he (Leno) knew he wasn't getting any younger..his announcenment was RECORDED as a matter of record. Cough why must you bend the obvious truth to fit your opinion??
-
didn't want to leave in 5 years. Sorry he didn't decide to leave the Network like you guys seem to want him to do. The fact of the matter is, Conan lost 60% of Leno's Tonight Show audience. He's not likeable to the the majority of Late Night viewers. Just because Leno didn't bolt from NBC when he was told he was being forced out 5 years ago doesn't mean that's not what happened. How come no one is disputing Leno's recounting of events in 2004 if he's lying?

The more you insult people personally simply because they disagree with you, the more you turn off people that can actually give you what you want. I don't even dislike Conan that much. Some of his stuff is amusing, but I can't sit through a whole one of his shows. However, the anger, hatred, and vitriol coming from you hysterical people all over the internet, insulting Leno's viewers and wishing death on Leno makes me want Conan to fail. And he will. Once he's on in the fall against Letterman, Leno, and Nightline, he will be a distant 4th place...
-
Death threats from Conan supporters? CL is losing it!
-
was told he was being cancelled twice and they moved him around twice. Sorry you don't like Leno, but he got almost 3 times the ratings Conan gets and twice the ratings Letterman gets. He's just better at doing a Talk Show people want to watch. Sorry you don't like it but Leno has the number one Late Night Show and even at 10pm he got better ratings than Letterman, Conan, Kimmel, Nightline, Jon Stewart, or Colbert. More people in this country watch and like Leno than any of your guys. Sorry you have such an inferiority complex. If you really liked Conan, you would've watched him. Barely 2 million people did...
-
these talkbacks that they wish Leno was dead. Why are you trying to deny something that's happening?
-
1. Leno is being fucked by NBC and is too weak-willed to do something about it like Letterman & Conan did.
2. Leno fucked Carson, Letterman & Conan and using NBC management as cover. -
accross the internet. There are dozens upon dozens of people saying that they wish Leno was dead or hoping he dies. It IS going on. Just because your ignorant of this doesn't change the fact it's happening...

The answer, according to you and Letterman, is Number 1
by coughlins laws
You should actually respect Leno. He doesn't have an agent and isn't greedy. That's why he puts up with what NBC does to him. If he had an agent/power lawyer, they would've prevented any of this from happening. If he was only greedy like Letterman...
-
Sorry if I don't trust your assertions.
-
Let the making up shit wars commence!
-
..in a sentence, the rest is all fox news/am.radio distortion. If there is an actual link to the President's actual quote that degrades truck drivers, I'd really like to see it. He just said something to the effect of "You may not like where he takes you in that truck" or something close to it. The guy grew up in near poverty; he has other weak points but this "elitist" argument---jeez, give it up already.
-
...like i originally thought but instead has an extreme lack of self-respect that NBC is taking advantage of.
NBC knows that they can get Leno to do whatever they want as long as they keep him stocked in antique cars.
He's pitiful. -
"and moved him around twice"coughlin NOW YOU'RE JUST MAKING SHIT UP!you are bangs deep in bullshit, im gonna toss you a snorkle dude..i know that doritos taste in lenos has a kick to it..we know whos side you're on you fucking compnay man. you shill..you fucking scab..you're a nobody a fucking mindless drone..enjoy your medicore late night show while he whispers adsvertisements from his sponsers while you sleep...fucking prick.
-
number 2 is whats going down..leno got what he wanted..now he backing off and passing the buck to the faceless corporation...dont blame me guys..im as likable as a rash on your sack.
-
the respectable thing to do when you know that you're THE FACE of the man whos taking a job unrightfully is to REJECT THE OFFER..otherwise YOU ARE A SCAB...leno wouldve been kneecapped had he been in a blue collar job..
-
came to Leno and said they were giving the Tonight Show to Conan in 5 years. That's cancel Number 1. Then they told him they'd move him to 10pm so he wouldn't leave NBC. That's move number 1. Then they told him his 10pm show was being cancelled. That's cancel number 2. Then they told him they wanted to move him back to 11:35pm and move back Conan a half hour. That's move number 2. You see, I was 100% CORRECT....

You're Liar!
-
Jan 21, 2010 11:40:07 AM CST
You can't prove that, six demon. You have no proof he's
by coughlins laws
not telling the truth. Neither Conan nor anyone else involved at NBC has refuted anything Leno has said. The burden of proof is on you if you call someone a liar...
-

3 or 4 talkback sections on this site since the announcement that the Leno show was cancelled. Also, skim through the comments sections at TMZ. Tell me you still don't see all the wishing of death on Leno...
-
Has Hollywood so polluted your minds that that you think every company is evil no matter what?

but the negotiations kept evolving, i've alway been there reporting of a new development

I've converted to Christianity finally, so I'm PRAYING he will die.
-
But Leno doesn't exist in a vacuum. He HAS to see that NBC's moving him around like that is devastating to other people at the network.
At what point should one stand up and go 'no, I won't do that to Dick Wolf or Conan O'Brien'.
Being a pawn is nothing to be proud of. -
Out of a 45 million dollar severance package Conan will take 33 millions dollars with the rest going to his staff. Being reported on HitFix.
-
Don't you hate it, when some douchebag looking for attention, just makes shit up?

LENO IS OPRESSOR LET US BRING COMRADE O'BRIEN TO DESTROY MR. CAPITALIST BLUE JEANS! FOR THE TONIGHT SHOW EVERYTHING FOR THE JAY LENO SHOW NOTHING!

Well, Margot, you can make that case that he's letting
by coughlins laws
himself get pushed around and he looks like a week douchebag. However, I'm simply making the case that he didn't push Conan out and you shouldn't feel sorry for Conan "Golden Parachute" O'Brien...
-
I mean he has to have a heart in there somewhere. He said his goodbyes and he's fucking over a good friend in Conan. He's publicily stated he hated that the Carson retirment lost him his friendship with letterman 18 years ago so why do it all again? He doesn't have to worry about money, he had a respectible send off (hell even I watched his final show and i hated his tenure as host). So what if his new venture didn't succeed, pack up your chin go home and live your remaining years in comfort with your wife Mavis, maybe ocasionally do a stand up gig or a movie role... thats what carson did and people respected thatNow Leno just looks like a greedy jerk, what could he possibly gain from all of this? Thats why the man is just pure evil, he can't be reasoned or rationed with, he just wants to watch the world burn

restaurants. To you that means I'm a burger flipper. Could you be any more condescending? Not everyone has parents that can afford to send them to good colleges like you and to be such an intellectual. Sorry I had to work hard my whole life. I'm glad you can find it in your big heart to make fun of me...
-
but couldn't afford to send me to them because of debt. YOU INSENSITIVE MERCHANT FUCK.

LENO RETIRED so he didnt get cancelled in 2004...he told himself, NBC, and AMERICA that he was ending his host stint at the tonight show and RETIRING! cancelling means end of tonight show..lie #1 shot down.leno decides not to leave 4 years later or thinks he can make more money if he complains a little..so NBC is dumb enough or gracious enough to give him a whole new complete show...i see this as NBC weighing options of having a low overhead on a talk show or 5 weekly shows that cost millions per episode to producelie #2 shot down..new show is not him moving...it was his choice to take it or leave it.yes his show in 2010 was cancelled because it had low ratings and the network affiliates were becoming mutinous...NOT a LIE...but which is smarter for the NBC--please one man (leno) or please your affiliates?NBC halfheartedly told conan to move to 12...if it didnt happen they win, if it did, they win...all to please jay...MY POINT IS..you can spin that BS all you want but the REAL reason why the tonight shows ratings are down is DIRECTLY BECAUSE OF LENO...nobody watches carson daly cause theyve already been thru hours of talk show...had the tonight show been the first show on NBC after the local news and some prime primetime entertainment, conan would still be there...THAT IS A FACT...

Do you know what it's like, being the child of three colleges
by margot_tenenbaum
being called an elitist when I've had to struggle for every dime? My God, Coughlins Laws HOW DARE YOU!! That's it I'm out. I can't take this unbelievabele persuection.
(Can't spell didn't go to college SOB) -
So, by that description, can I assume you also believe that Dane Cook is comedically on par with Jim Carrey? I can stand on a stage with a mic and ask people "what's up with that?" or tell stories about my day. Does that make me as good, or as funny, as Jerry Seinfeld? The most important thing in comedy is the joke itself. Doesn't matter how similar two comedians my seem or act - if one is funny, and the other is not, then there's really no comparison.
-
it's like we're the same person or something..wired huh
-
you don't believe him doesn't make it a lie. No one has refuted or challenged his version of events. Therefore, you have ZERO PROOF he's lying. The fact that you don't believe what he said doesn't mean he lied. If you think he lied, the burden of proof is on you to prove so. The fact that he gave a statement that NBC wanted back then doesn't mean he's lying now. Like I said, you can't prove he's lying. Nobody that is in the know has said he's lying. You're guessing. You can't prove either of those things were lies...
-
I'm hoping someone will take a sledge to the mouse-car or something for the finale.
-
I don't wish you any harm or ill will, I just find it hilarious picturing you at your keyboard, looking like a Big Daddy Roth creation, eyes apoppin', veins bulgin', typing away.
-
which is a pitty his last show would have been great if he was allowed to rag on NBC, i would have loved him to have gone on letterman or the daily show and just ripped zucker a new one, hell i would still love to see him host SNL one of these days and do some funny jay leno stuff
-
Think I'll probably get rip roaring drunk, and watch his sunset ride.
Never fucking watching Leno after this though. -
perhaps if alot of us do it and the thoughts are really hateful we can make the man's head explode in some kind of Children of the corn telekenesis type shit
-
He compromised his artistic integrity just so he could get a $40 million settlement. That sounds pretty bullshit to me. If he had any balls, he would make the jokes anyway and forfeit his money. It's not about the money, afterall, right? Isn't that what you pukes have been saying for weeks?
-
BUT HE IS A LIAR!!his actions and statements are what i basing my accusations on...when he says hes retiring in 2004..i have to take him at his word...when he says he now wants to stay..i have to take his word, slimy as it may be..but when you come out in 2010 and say nooooo i never wanted to leave in the first place, they were forcing me out...im gonna have to call bullshit..im sorry but its true...and as ive stated before, i understand why NBC would want to keep Leno, but if Leno TRULY was fucked over as he is now backpeddling, why the fuck would you stay with NBC?! if they fucked you over?a-he's a liarb-hes such a corporate whore, hes doesnt mind getting fuckedc-hes a fucking scab, willing to fuck over anybody to get that new antique car hes been eyeingor d--all of the above.
-
how is getting fired and receiving a contractual settlement SELLING OUT?he took care of his people AND kept his integrityAND not passing the buck to anybodyclass act all round.
-
conan wouldve sold out if he buckled and pussied his way to midnight...

I'm sorry, six demon, but Leno has said multiple times
by coughlins laws
before this year that he never wanted to leave the Tonight Show. He did was being a loyal company man. Sorry if you don't think it's honorable being loyal to your employer...
-
Jan 21, 2010 2:15:03 PM CST
As far as selling out, what he's doing is the definition of
by coughlins laws
selling out. If he's refusing to say what he really believes, he's selling out. Just like Jay Leno did...
-
FALSE. Be honest, have you ever actually SEEN Dane Cook and/or Conan O'Brien? Because even a chimp could tell you their acts are polar opposites. Conan's persona is that of a nerd, a goofball, the dorky underdog. He mostly relies on silly, absurdist humor. Dane Cook, on the other hand, plays up his partying frat boy image. He relies on "true" stories of (often sexual) things that have happened to him, mispronunciation of words, and the stolen jokes of other (better) comics. Oh, and just to straighten something out here: despite what you so clearly love to believe, you're not the righteous sensei patiently educating a gang of unruly louts until they finally see the glorious light of your Truth. You are, in fact, a contrarian troll who always finds himself outnumbered 20 to 1 for the simple reason that he is always wrong. Always. Hope that clears things up.
-
HE DIDNT WANT TO LEAVE...he made a big speech about passin gth etorch and and blahblah blaham i supposed to believe him then or believe it whenn he says AFTER his show FAILED that he never wanted to leave?and if NBC ditched him so unceremoniously and abruptly and werent loyal to him, why the fuck did he stay?!his words and actions are contradicting each other...and conan--what would you have him do?--take it up the ass and be shat on by NBC and have him get moved around or saying no, damned the consequences...standing up to the man and keeping your integrity IS NOT SELLING OUT.
-
how so..hes been talking shit and standing up for himself and his showliar, thy name is COUGHLIN.
-
sandler, tom hanks, will farrell, scorsese, and all the other guests who appeared this week to support conan WILL NEVER BE ON THE TONIGHT SHOW AGAIN....
-
is that it's okay (and wise) to ignore someone in a talkback if they choose a phrase from the movie Cocktail as their screen name.
-
A great choice and should be more entertaining than Conan the Slapstick. Come on AICN... a bit slow the last few months with news............
-
should end with Abe Vigoda singing "Danny Boy" make it happen Coco!
-
I dunno about Scorsese or, say, Manilow never going on TTS. I'm fairly certain they'd been booked a while ago and Conan didn't feel like bumping them just because he got canceled.
As to Conan selling-out... right. I'm fairly certain one of the truths to come out of this is that Conan's willing to fall on his sword to save The Tonight Show as an institution, Jimmy Fallon and even poor old Carson Daly, who very well could have been out of a job if his show had been pushed to 2am.
Christ, I'd let NBC keep Triumph, Pimpbot and Clive Clemons for all time if it meant getting rid of that non-disparaging clause. How badly do I want to hear Conan going off on NBC and Jay. Ahh well, I guess Letterman gives us that outlet.
