There's Gonna Be A PUSH TV Series!?

Published at:  Jan 19, 2010 5:40:49 PM CST

Merrick here...

David Hayter, writer of the first two X-MEN films, the WATCHMEN movie, and the voice of Solid Snake in the METAL GEAR games, is putting together a series based on the recent feature film PUSH. Coincidentally, I've got the Netflixed Blu-Ray of this on top of a pile that's waiting to be watched.

The series will purportedly be an extension of the science-fiction thriller, centered on people with paranormal powers who band together to take down a corrupt government agency.
[EDIT]
Screenwriter David Hayter, who penned "Watchmen" and two of the "X-Men" movies, will script the series pilot. E1 and Dark Hero Studios, co-owned by Hayter and producing partner Benedict Carver, will jointly produce the series based on the screenplay created by David Bourla for Summit.

...says THR HERE.

The film, which was released in early 2009, starred Djimon Hounsou, Dakaota Fanning, and Chris Evans & was directed by Paul McGuigan (LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN, WICKER PARK). Several other high-profile films are currently being eyed for series adaptation, including CHILDREN OF MEN from GALACTICA's David Eick (is this still in the wind?) and Gil Grant's reworking of GATTACA.

    by br1947

alot of other movies that would make better series. I'd love to see a live action Ghostbusters series. Let the movies be about the originals, then run a series with 'the next gen' that the studios seem to want with a franchise branch elsewhere in the country. There's enough background mythology to build a fantastic series, and every once in a while have one of the originals guest star.

Now that his run on Dr Who is over, Russell Davies is in talks to develop a US version of Torchwood that deals with more global threats rather than just those on the British Isles - John "Captain Jack" Barrowman is very likely to return in the new version.

Agreed. Love the movie so much, I'll watch anything based in that world. There were a lot of hints in the movie about this future (six fingered musicians, extensive space program, wired matchmaking booths etc.). If done right, with the theme of human spirit vs. genetics, I would watch the shit out of that series.

    by drath

I think JUMPER was a better movie than PUSH too. PUSH had stronger lead actors, but since they won't be in a TV show, that leaves the mythology, which was tangled and convoluted. But I'd look forward to either film's TV incarnation.

The movie had some serious issues

    by veritasses

but with the right creative team (with at least one person on hand with a strong sense of logic and organization), it has a good chance of working as a TV show. The universe is certainly uncomplicated enough to do whatever they want with it. Though if they get an incompetent idiot like Kring running things or choose to make it a drawn out drama/snooze fest then they should save everyone's time and drop it now.

    by prof. pop-cult

Just replace Dakota Fanning with an older young actress, like Natalie Portman (Dick had a thing for tow-head haircut brunettes), and set it in a future version of an American city, and the result would be very PK-Dickian. (In Western B-movies, Hong Kong often serves as a cheap, low budget stand-in for a "futuristic" type of city.)

    oops!

no seriously, i thought that it was a decent enough movie to begin a tv show. basically, not interesting enough for a sequel but it would work for tv.
there was still the issue with dakota fanning's mom that they left open, a shady company, a bunch of grouped mutants (pushers, sniffers, watchers), a main bad guy (djimon was good on his role, cmon you know this). so hmm yeah, im all for this as a show. if it stays within the mythology instead of inserting new mutants every week like heroes season 2 and the special effects are half decent, instead of the laughable mutant x, it could be good. i'll watch it.
