George Miller Casts Matt Damon And Brad Pitt!! But Not In FURY ROAD...
Merrick here...
I guess it's George Miller casting week in Cyberspace.
Movieline says Matt Damon and Brad pitt will work on a new project together with George Miller - their first since OCEAN'S THIRTEEN. That project? HAPPY FEET 2.
Pitt and Damon will both be voicing characters in Miller’s Happy Feet 2, a 3-D sequel to his 2006 animated film. They’ll be joining original cast members who include Robin Williams and Elijah Wood.
...says Movieline HERE.
[SPOILER!] I still get completely tripped out by the reveal of the humans in HAPPY FEET - gives me goosebumps every time. Wonder what music they're adapting this time around, or if they'll go some completely different direction?

That's all.

Worst Prince Song Ever.
-
even 7 year olds should be insulted by that fucking movie.
-
Awwww.
-
fuck it
-
Although Happy Feet did make me wonder what penguins taste like.
-
PLEASE do yourself and all us fans a favor. Dump this animation junk and concentrate on getting FURY ROAD made. We have been waiting an awfully long time for this. Hand the penguin crap over to someone else.
-
Wonder if those guys can sing?
-
God that movie was boring.
-
Seriously, that movie went from goofy/fun to mind blowing. Of course, I was pretty high.
-
As well as Frodo Penguins reaction to them. I never even watched the entire film beginning to end, but I worked in a movie theater that summer, and I would pop my head in just for that part. When the humans get out of the helicopter, and Frodoguins eyes get all big and light up...its one of the most startingly realistic and touching moments I've ever seen, especially in something animated. It rocked me to my core every time, and I didn't even really know why. It was just so beautiful.
-
Well done.
-
SHOOT YOURSELVES IN THE HEAD LOL
HAPPY FEET 2?! are you kidding? omg! what a waste of great talent!!! Thought it was going to be something interesting like a crime drama or something.. what a disappointment.
why do they make a big thing about hearing a celebrities voice? -

Everyone is disappointed that BP and MD won't be shirtless.
by dr sauch
Clearly.
-
Jesus....this is exactly the George Miller project I have been holding my breath for.
-
Merrick? What? Happy Feet 2? Looking forward to adapting songs? Either you're joking and your sarcasm doesn't translate, or the real big reveal is that you're fucking ten years old. If that.
-
but this Fury Road casting nonsense has just left me totally numb...
-
Thanks to global warming, Antarctica is a tropical beachfront resort, and all the penguins are forced at gunpoint to work as bartenders. The horror!
-
only kids movie I have ever turned off in front of my kid (after promising she could watch it) because it was fucking terrible. The best part? She didn't care at all. Her recommendation? Fred Quimby era (as if there was another) Tom and Jerry...I think they should let you into college based on this test. Those who cry and demand more Happy Feet are refused- "No, no, you'll never do anything, don't waste your money or our time. Report to the DMV immediately for work."
-
is injected into the Veins of this AICN article you'd think these people don't have Wives/Daughters/Sisters/Nieces/Cousins.
-
Without HAPPY FEET, there would be no FURY ROAD, at least not with the kind of budget it deserves. To paraphrase Ben Affleck (channeling Kevin Smith): "You gotta do the safe picture, then you can do the Mad Max picture." Miller's got to increase his value wherever he can.
-
Your the prime example of why some "men" should not have children...or live.I would wish you to hell but your lack of a soul makes that wish impossible to grant
-
Wow.
That could be the plot of the next Dan Brown novel! -
Didn't I see your name on Americas Most Wanted a couple weeks back? Its pretty ironic/inappropriate that a child fondler is commenting on a talkback dedicated to a childrens movie. To catch a predator indeed....
-
do me! do me!
-
His depression at the end and his delusion in seeing his friends and relatives about killed me. I truly thought that's how the film would end, and it made me sad to think that's what animals in zoos are thinking/hallucinating.
-
Just damn. You complain about how much people are hating on a *movie* and you subsequently condemn one man to hell and call another a molester? Pot, meet kettle.
-
Who the fuck are you to question me? The_Patriot? Really? Go wash the American flag in more of your own blood you self righteous nobody. *sidebar* it's funny how you guys love to bash but when your the one on the end of the verbal club you either cower in fear or respond...I love it.
-
...I'm staying out of this one.
-
. . . what was that third thing you said?
-
two of the best kids movies, ever. On the basis of those movies alone I went into Happy Feet with high expectations. I was disappointed and the humans in the movie completely took me out of the movie. I wanted to like the movie, but I didn't.
Monster House was a way better kids movie and one that didn't pander to kids. It was scary and good, one might even say it was scary good. -
[Just trying to inject alittle love into this talkback...]
-
you shouldn't be watching happy feet
-
Will they recast? I thought her and Elijah's charaqters were soul mates or whatever, so I don't thinq having a penguin separation is an option they'd use. Then again, you never know.
-
The argument that a movie for kids can't be enjoyed by adults is retarded.
-
in the upper left... What is that referencing? Just curious...
-
the ending kind of fucked my shit up though. Seeing humans tripped me out. I thought the film was alright though, but it's clear that Miller has lost it. It's not entirely his fault though, Gibson just doesn't want to do Mad Max, but Miller wants to. Hardy is a decent choice I guess. At least it didn't go to an American.
-
Its the monolith from 2001.
-
I believe it is referencing 2001 where the monkey touches the black monolith.
-
Happy Crotch, yes. Happy Feet, no.
-
Kubricks least loved film? I never understood any of its meaning, beautiful movie with a heavy handed meaning lost on me.
-
...those seabirds eat the damned penguin.
That's nature, baby. Deal with it. -
Your last statement sort of lost me. I don't understand how you know the meaning of 2001 is heavy-handed if the meaning was lost on you?
-
The licking, the monkey-flattening... it all just threw me completely off... I feel so pathetic... Thanks for the enlightening...
-
Um, no.
-
Awesomeness.

You don't remember the chubby, movie critic monkey from 2001?
by royston lodge
You musta seen the edited version. Heh heh heh . . .
-
of the monolith... Really, how could I be so dense? [shakes his head sadly]
-
The movie as a moving picture...a motion picture was beautiful, the meaning of the plot, that thing that advances the story, was lost on me. I love Kubrick do not get my words tangled and twisted.

-
when it should be Full Metal Jacket. Of all his films that's the crappiest one. Which still isn't too bad. The Killing and Dr. Strangelove FTW! No other like 'em.
-
Love me some Shining.
-
I found Happy Feet to be annoying. Most of the celeb voices were obnoxious, especially Robin Williams' patented "gay hispanic" voice.
-
Let me clarify...2001 is in MY (me,myself,I) opinion kubricks least loved film by ME. I could give 2 7 lbs will smith movie shits what you or anyone else who read my opinion wrong feels about an otherwise brilliant film makers career.
-
I wanna see more penguin-hate!
-
Shut the hell up. Since when were you entitled to spew your retarded opinion whilst others weren't? All I said was Eyes Wide Shut is probably the least loved Kubrick film by the public. Don't be so touchy you little shit.
-
Let's not get all hung up on what is Kubrick's best or worst film or whatever... I think we all agree that the man was a cine-god and even his worst film has merit... So, yeah, PENGUINS CAN BLOW ME!!!!
-
I mean, I'm as open-minded as the next guy, and what you do in the privacy of your own bedroom is nobody's business but your own, but penguins? Seriously?
Is that even possible?
I mean, how can an animal with a beak give a blow-job?
An orangutan, maybe, with those big-ass lips of theirs... -
and all that other shit Dreamworks animation throws at us. Also Williams' patented gay hispanic voice is still fresh.
-

-
..and really have no desire to argue about it. Some people like this film, some people loathe it. Doesn't seem to be a lot of middle ground.
-
but you do have to enjoy the occasional beak-poke... I'm a bit of a masochist... Orangutans can get a bit violent... at least, that's what I've heard...
-
...this is why I love AICN talkbacks.
-
"wut"....ummm I might not be the most grammatical correct human being on the planet but I'm pretty sure thats supposed to be a B...well who cares point is can you remove yourself from my balls son?
-
..is a boring mess. I have nothing by respect for Kubrick and his influence on cinema, but I paid to see that movie in the theater, own it on DVD and JUST watched it on cable LAST NIGHT! .... it's still a boring mess. And I say that with no apologies. It's slow as hell and contains ZERO tension, which it was clearly going for. The only thing I really dig about it is the use of primary colors in the set design and lighting. That still looks cool.
-
I LOVE Babe. It's an all-time favorite film. Easily in my top 100, but I'm not sure where I'd place it. However, I LOATHE Pig in the City. Absolutely DESPISE it! It has none of the easygoing country charm and grace of the first film. Just, bleh!
-
It might have helped, yeah.

"Dr. Strangelove" could've used a penguin head-bobber, too...
by harrycalder
I mean, fuck, it's called "Dr. Strangelove."
-
We all have off-days =).
-
Another AICN meme is born.
-
I actually liked Surf's Up more. If you watch it without being hyper-critical, it's actually pretty funny... Just thought I'd share that...
-
...is Shia LeDork's voice. And I guess that's a personal problem. lol Whatever, he just annoys. Otherwise, it was alright. The chicken made me laugh.
-
"Where the hell do you think you are, man?" - Duke (from M*A*S*H)
-
...is always appreciated.
-
It's like some evil animal circus of insanity. I love it!
-
How about I re-word hyper-critical that to a little open-minded. Shia can be annoying, but I do find joy in the scene where he's showing a picture of his dad on the ice with a killer whale in the background... "I'm the only one in the island whose dad was... eaten." It tickles me (lame, I know).
-
Keep trying. Heh heh heh . . .

i've watched eyes wide shut more than many "great" movies
by redhorsevector
i like it.
-
it was seriously messed
-
Have a completely negative attitude about it, never see it, and then crap on it anyway? Does that sound about right??
-
Sorry....it just did.
-
You could pick worse movies to like. And as you see, I've watched it a few times myself. I just don't think it holds up to the rest of Kubrick's work, or that it was as good as it was intended to be, or wanted to be. I do find it more interesting in light of Cruise and Kidman no longer being married. Makes me wonder how much of their dislike of each other was genuine, but still be kept from one another at the time?
-
Hey, I said that I actually liked it despite the fact that I hate Shia with a passion. That's got stand for something! The pic you mentioned was funny, as was the chicken. Bridges was a good choice, too. It just doesn't have a lot of re-watchability for me because of the Shia factor.
-
Makes sense. Especially if an actor just gets under your skin. I kinda feel the same way about Chris Klein!!!
-
Seriously. 40-ish minutes of some of the best atmospheric horror ever filmed ("Terror at 30,000 feet" from Twilight Zone the Movie) and then that fucking musical with the penguins and the one deformed penguin that grew up still all fuzzy and pretentiously cute.I'm a sucker as much as the next guy but Happy Feet just heavy-handed it's forced-cuteness way right into being horribly annoying. Not sure what it was..all bias aside, I REALLY hate musicals. I'll watch Brokeback ten times and bust tears on that final scene at Jack's folks house but I have to wonder at the relative sacklessness of those who profess love for trite, forced schlock like happy feet. And yet I so love what Miller did with the last vignette for Twilight Zone and OFCOURSE Road Warrior is sheer genius film-making.It's like roller-coaster schizo 'love that, hate this' appreciation and it makes me freak out and have to go to the bathroom.

Kavalier: Sorry, you're still describing the average Talkbacker.

I think you've assigned yourself a hopeless mission. Heh heh heh . . .
-
...a movie that I can watch and say to myself, "that's interesting what the director's trying to do there," but not say to myself, "gosh, what an entertaining movie!"
I too have seen it many times.
The bare boobies help... -
I know!! It was fun trying anyway!!
-
...the bare boobies certainly do help. I agree with your comment above, too. Especially because it was Kubrick trying to do it.
-
Was an odd headache inducing nightmare of a film. Cack.
-
I just couldn't stand that more than 1 kubrick film has been mentioned here and the droogies didn't get a mention.carry on.
-
is a classic. It blows me the f away.
-
^^ Should be a movie. Love Clockwork with a passion. Watched it again recently as well and it's held up surprisingly well. It's one of those films that teenage me loved for teenage reasons, but adult me loves because he understands what it's saying.I'm not saying that Pig in the City isn't all the things everybody says it is, or that it's not a great film. It's just that it has almost zero to do with the tone or feel of the first film and I really love that one.
-
Great if you have insomnia, if you don't turn up the volume real loud.
-
Happy Feet was tedious. Or, if I'm feeling charitable, mildly entertaining at best.
-
But 2001 still gets me. Brilliant. Visionary. Looks great even by today's standards (most of it, anyway). The use of music. The super-slow, yet entirely deliberate pacing. The use of an AT&T calling card on the satellite. 2001 just floors me. What a heckuva movie. Why I felt compelled to say that, I don't know, but if you need proof Kubrick was a film making genius, 2001 is it.
-
It's always fun to watch him melt down over some inconsequential nonsense. "P-p-penguins are soash-uhl-lishts! Pleh! Pleh! Pleh!" Comedic gold!

What a fucking retarded movie. I am sure the sequel will be more of the same. Maybe we will get luck and someone will run over the penguins with a lawnmower.
-
we couldn't get this kind of casting from him waaay back when he was doing "justice League." Not picking on the man...just saying.
-
Hell with that and the mad max films...i think he might be my favorite director.
Seriously...i love Babe. I used to know the words to the song the old man sung. Youtube here i come. -
I thought there were quite a few beautifully framed shots (mostly long shots, like the crane plunging into the ocean comes to mind) and while the heavy-handed "ENVIRONMENTAL MESSAGE" was fore and center, some parts of that movie were dark as fuck for a movie that was supposedly about singing penguins. And God help me, I actually liked the 'vato penguins.
-
absolutely overcooked...couldnt make it all the way thru...robin williams was FUCKING ANNOYING..and hey im a fan of his older comedy.
-
Damn You Michael Bay
-
probably the most impressive animated film of the noughties. Story, music, characters, animation, scenery, utterly perfect, with so many images and scenes you'll never forget. I remember being HUGELY impressed walking out of this. An underrated masterpiece; I'm happy to see they're making a sequel.

AVATAR HAS BEEN PULLED FROM 1,628 CHINESE THEATRES!?! WTF!?!
by tehcreepythinman
The communist nation's state-run movie distributor, China Film Group, unexpectedly began pulling the blockbuster science-fiction picture from 1,628 2-D screens this week in favor of a biography of the ancient philosopher Confucius. Paul Hanneman, co-president of international distribution for 20th Century Fox, the movie's distributor, confirmed the move, which the studio learned about Monday evening. According to the Hong Kong newspaper Apple Daily, the switch was made at the urging of propaganda officials who are concerned that "Avatar" is taking too much market share from Chinese films and drawing unwanted attention to the sensitive issue of forced evictions. Millions of Chinese have been uprooted to make way for high-rise buildings and government infrastructure projects in the fast-growing country. In "Avatar," human colonists try to demolish the village of an alien race to obtain a precious energy source buried under it. http://www.thenewstribune.com/apheadlines/outdoors/story/1034148.html

Those movies fucking rule. Wish we got a third one.
-
But yeah, that bit with the humans was good. Still mostly poop, though.
