George Miller Casts Matt Damon And Brad Pitt!! But Not In FURY ROAD...

Published at:  Jan 18, 2010 11:24:38 AM CST

Merrick here...

I guess it's George Miller casting week in Cyberspace.

Movieline says Matt Damon and Brad pitt will work on a new project together with George Miller - their first since OCEAN'S THIRTEEN. That project? HAPPY FEET 2.

Pitt and Damon will both be voicing characters in Miller’s Happy Feet 2, a 3-D sequel to his 2006 animated film. They’ll be joining original cast members who include Robin Williams and Elijah Wood.

...says Movieline HERE.

[SPOILER!] I still get completely tripped out by the reveal of the humans in HAPPY FEET - gives me goosebumps every time. Wonder what music they're adapting this time around, or if they'll go some completely different direction?

    by crow3711

As well as Frodo Penguins reaction to them. I never even watched the entire film beginning to end, but I worked in a movie theater that summer, and I would pop my head in just for that part. When the humans get out of the helicopter, and Frodoguins eyes get all big and light up...its one of the most startingly realistic and touching moments I've ever seen, especially in something animated. It rocked me to my core every time, and I didn't even really know why. It was just so beautiful.

Fred Quimby era (as if there was another) Tom and Jerry...I think they should let you into college based on this test. Without HAPPY FEET, there would be no FURY ROAD, at least not with the kind of budget it deserves. To paraphrase Ben Affleck (channeling Kevin Smith): "You gotta do the safe picture, then you can do the Mad Max picture." Miller's got to increase his value wherever he can.

It's not entirely his fault though, Gibson just doesn't want to do Mad Max, but Miller wants to. Hardy is a decent choice I guess. At least it didn't go to an American.

You could pick worse movies to like. And as you see, I've watched it a few times myself. I just don't think it holds up to the rest of Kubrick's work, or that it was as good as it was intended to be, or wanted to be. I do find it more interesting in light of Cruise and Kidman no longer being married. Makes me wonder how much of their dislike of each other was genuine, but still be kept from one another at the time?

    Schizophrenia with G Miller...

    by darth macchio

Seriously. 40-ish minutes of some of the best atmospheric horror ever filmed ("Terror at 30,000 feet" from Twilight Zone the Movie) and then that fucking musical with the penguins and the one deformed penguin that grew up still all fuzzy and pretentiously cute.I'm a sucker as much as the next guy but Happy Feet just heavy-handed it's forced-cuteness way right into being horribly annoying. Not sure what it was..all bias aside, I REALLY hate musicals. I'll watch Brokeback ten times and bust tears on that final scene at Jack's folks house but I have to wonder at the relative sacklessness of those who profess love for trite, forced schlock like happy feet. And yet I so love what Miller did with the last vignette for Twilight Zone and OFCOURSE Road Warrior is sheer genius film-making.It's like roller-coaster schizo 'love that, hate this' appreciation and it makes me freak out and have to go to the bathroom.

I liken Eyes Wide Shut to Cronenberg's Crash...

    by royston lodge

...a movie that I can watch and say to myself, "that's interesting what the director's trying to do there," but not say to myself, "gosh, what an entertaining movie!"
I too have seen it many times.

...the bare boobies certainly do help. I agree with your comment above, too. Especially because it was Kubrick trying to do it.

Clockwork and Pig in the City

    by jaka

^^ Should be a movie. Love Clockwork with a passion. Watched it again recently as well and it's held up surprisingly well. It's one of those films that teenage me loved for teenage reasons, but adult me loves because he understands what it's saying.I'm not saying that Pig in the City isn't all the things everybody says it is, or that it's not a great film. It's just that it has almost zero to do with the tone or feel of the first film and I really love that one.

Babe was Outstanding. Babe 2 Was Very, Very Good.

    by kevinwillis.net

Happy Feet was tedious. Or, if I'm feeling charitable, mildly entertaining at best.

    Clockwork: Good Movie

    by kevinwillis.net

But 2001 still gets me. Brilliant. Visionary. Looks great even by today's standards (most of it, anyway). The use of music. The super-slow, yet entirely deliberate pacing. The use of an AT&T calling card on the satellite. 2001 just floors me. What a heckuva movie. Why I felt compelled to say that, I don't know, but if you need proof Kubrick was a film making genius, 2001 is it.

It's always fun to watch him melt down over some inconsequential nonsense. "P-p-penguins are soash-uhl-lishts! Pleh! Pleh! Pleh!" Comedic gold!

What a fucking retarded movie. I am sure the sequel will be more of the same. Maybe we will get luck and someone will run over the penguins with a lawnmower.

I actually saw this movie just the other day.

    by dockealy

I thought there were quite a few beautifully framed shots (mostly long shots, like the crane plunging into the ocean comes to mind) and while the heavy-handed "ENVIRONMENTAL MESSAGE" was fore and center, some parts of that movie were dark as fuck for a movie that was supposedly about singing penguins. And God help me, I actually liked the 'vato penguins.

    by hagceli

probably the most impressive animated film of the noughties. Story, music, characters, animation, scenery, utterly perfect, with so many images and scenes you'll never forget. I remember being HUGELY impressed walking out of this. An underrated masterpiece; I'm happy to see they're making a sequel.

AVATAR HAS BEEN PULLED FROM 1,628 CHINESE THEATRES!?! WTF!?!

    by tehcreepythinman

The communist nation's state-run movie distributor, China Film Group, unexpectedly began pulling the blockbuster science-fiction picture from 1,628 2-D screens this week in favor of a biography of the ancient philosopher Confucius. Paul Hanneman, co-president of international distribution for 20th Century Fox, the movie's distributor, confirmed the move, which the studio learned about Monday evening. According to the Hong Kong newspaper Apple Daily, the switch was made at the urging of propaganda officials who are concerned that "Avatar" is taking too much market share from Chinese films and drawing unwanted attention to the sensitive issue of forced evictions. Millions of Chinese have been uprooted to make way for high-rise buildings and government infrastructure projects in the fast-growing country. In "Avatar," human colonists try to demolish the village of an alien race to obtain a precious energy source buried under it. http://www.thenewstribune.com/apheadlines/outdoors/story/1034148.html
